I never thought I’d be around to witness the downfall of Barisan Nasional. Malaysia always prides itself on being a democratic country, but the government’s understanding of democratic is: ‘democratic, as long as it’s Barisan.’ And to see them lose is such a spectacular fashion after years of fucking up the country and treating their citizens like crap, it’s honestly giving me chills. This is an event of historical proportions and I’m so very proud to have been just one small part of that.

I’m also very very proud in that the fact that my state and parliament seat that I voted for was won by Pakatan.

I honestly have chills right now.

There is no guarantee that the winners of this election won't try to entrench themselves into power via gerrymandering and voter suppression.

The religious administration of Islam is still done by authorities that aren't democratically accountable to their ummah.

LGBT rights are still marginal topics that no political party wants to address.

Same with capitalist white supremacy. Which is still a thing, despite more than half a century of independence.

Our electoral systems are still dominated by politics that are a natural consequence of the first-past-the-post electoral system, i.e. two political parties that will try their damn best to stay within the Overton window.

Speaking of which, the Overton window has fallen off the cliff of the right-wing and frankly we're not very far from fascism.

I think it's a good idea for us to sit back and take a breather and care for ourselves, but Malaysia isn't “saved” yet. Not by a long shot.

By no means am I saying you can't feel good about yourself and that you don't deserve a break, but this was always going to be a long fight. And it's just getting started.

This isn't a sprint. This is a marathon.

Election Day in Malaysia today and a historical event is about to take place (or has already taken place perhaps if not for the actions of some very sore blue losers).

Today, the dwarves, elves and men became united against the evil that has festered in this country for far too long, bought too many over priced handbags and rings on the backs of the poor who live here.

Our former prime minister was in charge of the country for almost 20 years and the nation prospered while under him. Then this jackass and his puppet master wife stepped up and took a great big dump on everything he built, insulted his age and said that no one would vote for an old man with one foot in the grave.

The people begged to differ and the evident is in the votes.

This losing party in question has never in the history of this country not been the ruling party. This will indeed be an event of historical proportions and one I never thought I’d ever see in my lifetime.

like I get it that ppl feel good that they brought this change, but honestly if ppl didn’t vote, don’t give them shit

your feelings of pride that you did your duty as a citizen isn't an excuse to feel superior at the expense of others

like, I noticed that lots of ppl didn't vote. I'm pretty sure they had reasons for it, like, they couldn't afford a trip back home. Or they didn't register in time. Or that they didn't register at all. Or that they were too young. Or that they tried, but the SPR made sure that they couldn't, because they only had a bit of time to vote and they made it almost impossible to vote, or that they only had time to do it at 3 PM and the SPR barred them anyway because they couldn't get into their saluran by 5 PM (and yeah, I'm remembering that, SPR… you're gonna get yours). Or, you know what? They did register and all… and they didn't want to vote. Guess what? Even that last reason is valid.

who gives a shit? feel good about what you did, but don't judge other people for not doing it. you don't even know the entire story, why should uols fucking judge?

like it's not even some kind of competition, whatever happened to “we're all in this together”? maybe you should be figuring out how to bring politics and being a citizen easier for more Malaysians together, rather than bringing up your feelings of pride by looking down other people for not doing what you did?
