I'm sitting downstairs having a cup of tea before I get started on the day. I'm listening to Pēteris Vasks 'The Seasons' with Vestard Shimkus on piano. I'm trying to get my head in a good place.

Halloween is very busy here at our new place with trick or treaters, hundreds of children. I loved seeing them all, but some of the comments and questions have left my ego a little bruised. My husband thinks its no big, it's just because I have pure white hair with a young(ish) face, which seems to confuse people at Halloween, easy for him to say, he's dark.

Just to be clear, i was not wearing a costume.

The first comments came from a bunch of kids saying 'What are you meant to be?'

Me- 'I'm just myself!'

Them- 'But that's a wig right?!'

Me (pulling hair)- 'Nope, that's just my hair'

Them- 'But you've just dyed it that colour, right?'

Me- 'Nope that's just my hair'

Then there was two little boys who shouted as they left 'Bye Grandma, we love you!'

The final straw was getting asked by an adult, if I was meant to be Mrs Doubtfire! - An adult FFS! It wasn't like I was wearing an old lady dress or something.

Of course all the while my husband is sitting in the living room with his feet up, not helping, but listening and laughing his head off. I didn't talk to him for the rest of the evening.

Just as well we ran out of sweets before I gave the next person with a comment a right hook.
