Book Review: Worthy, by Nathan Eshelman
Tumblr media
What is the right way to worship? In Worthy, Nathan Eshelman expounds on the worship of God.
A Weight to Worship
At just a little bit less than 150 pages, this book packs a punch. Eshelman begins by helping us understand the word “worship.” It includes mental devotion, heart-filled praise, soulful trust, and time-sacrificing service. There is a weight to the word, and it must be used rightly with God.
Eshelman explains why God is worthy of worship. Creation, covenants, claims from the cross, and our communion with God are examined. The book then turns to how we have mishandled the worship of God and why we need direction. We study Cain’s vegetables, Aaron and the golden calf, and more.
Explanations and Encouragement
The solution is found when our worship is regulated to God’s Word. I especially appreciated the distinction made between elements and circumstances regarding worship. It takes wisdom and discernment to determine which is which. Interestingly, when concerning the public gathering of the church, Eshelman argues for acappella Psalm-singing. While I don’t come to the same conclusions, I appreciate his defenses.
The book ends by looking towards the global worship of God. This book is an excellent guide to the reason and rationale behind Reformed worship, and a great source of encouragement to the church to continue his praises.
I received a media copy of Worthy and this is my honest review. by Nathan Eshelman | There’s a certain level of honesty that is needed when we assess where we are as the Great Lakes Gulf Presbytery of the RPCNA. It has been said that in the last several years—a vacuum of leadership has happened among us—and this has caused us to ask who we are as a presbytery. There was a time when Dr. Roy Blackwood was younger and this presbytery was being built...

by Nathan Eshelman | God is not the author of confusion (I Corinthians 14:33), but of peace, and godliness, and of order. Today the Roman pontiff, speaking on behalf of Jesus Christ and his church declared the pompous words (Daniel 7:8) that same sex couples in union could be blessed. This is an about-face as he said in 2021 that he would not allow for gay unions to be blessed because "God cannot bless sin." Surely now he can, according to the one who shows himself to…

Some of you need to fire your child’s therapist right away. Some of you need to figure out what interactions your school psychologist, counselors, and paraprofessionals are having with your children.
With. Your. Children.
Children are being ruined by therapeutic parenting and our therapeutic culture.
If you are a therapist you may need to be repenting due to causing more harm than good. Therapists and the therapizing of our children may be responsible for a large portion of the immaturity, anxiety, depression, and suicidality of our nation’s youth. We have created a generation of adults in “emotional snow suits” and have children that are afraid to live life at full…
