Today’s intended reading is Nabiel Kanan’s “Exit - `Under the Sun,’” published by Caliber Comics in 1996, and prior that that as individual issues beginning in 1990, achieving award status in 1993, during which “Exit” won the Comic Creators Guild Award. I began reading this a few months ago and lost track of where I’d put the book, so I only got a few chapters in originally, but flipping through I recall a clear sense of individual characters existing in a vivid world conveyed successfully on each page. Now I get to find out what the mystery is. @nabielkanan #comics #comix #comicbooks #indiecomix #indiecomics #indiecomicbook #caliber #calibercomics #comiccreatorsguild #comiccreatorsguildaward #blackandwhite #blackandwhitecomics #smallpress #smallpresscomics #indie #undiepublisher #indiepublishing #nabielkanan https://www.instagram.com/p/B-Fnwbpj8LD/?igshid=1l556h81pw00e

My most favourite moment. This really shone in the magazine sized deadline. Not so hot in a comic sized comic.

Another great article with one of my favourite pages - the one with them sat on the bridge. There's something amazing about the spacial and time relationship in these pages. It's like ghosts moving through space you can see on each page how the individuals relate to each other, their world and their memories. It's very haunting. The visual real sum up the mood of that period of your childhood when you reach about 14-16. You suddenly realise you have options and a bigger world is waiting out there, but you feel tied into waiting because you're not ready. It also clearly lays out that web of relationship and emotional ties that friends and acquaintances who hang out together build. My most favourite scene is where they walk through a field of tall grass.

So I used to love reading these in Deadline when I was a teenager. I sooooo wanted to be able to draw this well and he had such an artistic hold over me for years, basically until I got to university. I got the comics and I even bought the Caliber trade, which was shockingly bad quality. The glue fell apart and the book disintegrated before I'd even finished it. There were some great comics over the few years that followed as well as around the time. Ilya's End of the Century Club and Paul Grist doing Kane. Going to dig around for some more links. Can't believe someone hasn't collected Exit again. Loved it.
