I actually love Edward x Bertha and how toxic and tragic they are 😔😔🙏🏻
Tumblr media
Like, you don’t get it. Bertha is a girl like ME!!! Girl of colour- and it’s crazy because I should have been relating to Jane more but the way Rochester described Jamaica broke my heart!!!
like damn bro IS a coloniser 😭😭😭😭
But I like the idea that both Bertha and him are sympathetic in regards to their relationship and the situation they’re in. Like if Bertha was written to be an actual victim of racism and her illness and how Edward was just ignorant and spoke out of frustration when he described her. Either it was his conscience acting or he doesn’t actually hate her because if you really do hate someone- what’s the harm of putting them in an institution?
Like, I LOVE how messy they are and they make me cry throw up blood and fall ill just thinking about them, you know??? The toxic straight Yuri ever

"‘Are you injured, sir?’ I think he was swearing, but am not certain; however, he was pronouncing some formula which prevented him from replying to me directly."

Autumn always feels like the perfect time to reread Jane Eyre, so, have some Jane and Mr. Rochester (though I've made him too cute, so, any other Brontë or Austen couple is also possible) 🍂
Mmm, I hope one day I'll manage to paint a colorful landscape and be happy with the result...It's so much easier in black and white :')

You’re in her DMs, I’m screaming her name across the moors and she somehow hears me. We’re not the same.

Yet after all my task was not an easy one; often I would rather have pleased than teased him. My future husband was becoming to me my whole world; and more than the world: almost my hope of heaven. He stood between me and every thought of religion, as an eclipse intervenes between man and the broad sun. I could not, in those days, see God for His creature: of whom I had made an idol.

You're lucky, Miss Eyre. If you do not love another living soul then you'll never be disappointed.

The scene where Jane plans to have Rochester sing for her as a distraction so she doesn’t have to get all romantic with him in the evening is gold. She’s like “play me a song😊” and Rochester is like “no I’m not in the mood let’s cuddle😔👉👈” and then Jane is like “I’ll have to resort to flattering his ego😐…” and says “but I really want you to play me something🥰”, and Rochester is all like, “oh do you like my singing😏” and she’s like “yes😍”. Then Rochester gets all excited and says he’ll only sing if she accompanies him on the piano which Jane does. She attempts to play but remember Jane can only play “a little” and Rochester literally shoves her off the stool and calls her a “little bungler😏” and does a solo.💀Jane is all happy she didn’t have to play and was like “yay my plan worked hehe” then goes to sit by the window and listen. Rochester drops a banger romantic song about Jane, then gets extremely turned on by the end of the song. He passionately walks over to Jane with some heat in his eyes ready to kiss Jane then she dodges the kiss and is like, “who’s the song about? cuz it ain’t me🤷‍♀️” Rochester is like 👁️👄👁️🫵. Then Jane goes “certainly not me you said the lovers will die together… what a selfish idea I’m twenty years younger than you sir why do I have to die when you die?🤨”. Rochester is like “I’m sorry Jane please forgive me with a kiss?🥺👉👈” and Jane goes “I’d rather not😐🤚” LIKE IM WHEEZING THEY ARE SO FUNNY IN THIS SCENE💀 Rochester calls Jane some kinky pet names after this like “hard little thing😒” and Jane gets all happy bc she is like “he’s annoyed with me good!🤭” Meanwhile Rochester is 100% into this type of treatment from Jane, he’s like “mark me down as annoyed🙄 and turned on🥵”

People are so boring about classic literature sometimes. Like I know it’s cool to be critical of men in books from the 19th century or whatever but it just leads to ripping out all of the nuance in favor of “Uh all of the Brontë men were evil and abusive and that’s all there is to those characters.” Say something interesting. I’m begging you

A guide through Toby Stephens’ filmography for Percy Jackson fans.
If you’ve only just discovered Toby as Poseidon and want more than 10 minutes of that face, here’s where to start!
Tumblr media
If you’d be into Poseidon trying to make up for his absence and trying to win Sally and Percy back while fighting to survive in outer space, look no further! Watch Lost In Space on Netflix! It’s full of adventure, family, a but of angst and lots of DAD!
Tumblr media
If you’d be more into Poseidon going full Odysseus on Zeus for taking everything from him and then calling him a monster while Medusa takes revenge, do yourself a favor and watch Black Sails! Peak TV. Queer af. Made by Jon Steinberg. [Trigger warnings]
Tumblr media
If Sally and Poseidon pining is your thing and you love your Charlotte Brontë, watch the 2006 Jane Eyre with #RuthWilson and #TobyStephens! So much romance, angst and mutual eyefucking… warning: You WILL fall in love with a douchebag! Sorry for that!
Tumblr media
Shakespeare Poseidon anyone? A very young and extremely pretty Toby Stephens as Duke Orsino in Twelfth Night. Lots of pining, genderfluidity, confusion and sparks. SPARKS! And a bathtub that will rewire your brain. Something something LGBT will definitely happen to you!
Tumblr media
Finally if you love something face paced and modern with great teenage heroes, give Alex Rider on Prime a watch! Toby Stephens is a brilliant villain in S2 with loads of Elon Musk vibes. Poseidon the media mogul asshole? Maybe.
Tumblr media
Other highly recommended things from Toby Stephens’ backlist: Cambridge Spies, Photographing Fairies, The Tenant of Wildfell Hall, Mangal Pandey and Agatha Christie’s And Then There Were None.

when mr. rochester dressed in drag as an old fortune teller and elaborately pranked an entire party partly to get jane’s attention… when mr. rochester wrote, composed, and performed an entire song for jane eyre on the spot… when mr. rochester took in his former sugar baby’s bastard child despite her presence being a painful reminder to him of her mother, and then claimed not to love the child despite spoiling her with gifts… when mr. rochester sacrificed his life trying to save his wife even though she tried to kill him multiple times and he still refused to put her in ferndean manor because he didn’t think it was good enough for her (making it meaningful that he ends up living there himself when he’s disabled, showing he prized himself less than her)… when mr. rochester took jane out for an extravagant all-day shopping trip and was way more enthusiastic about it than her… when mr. rochester shared a god-given telepathic connection with jane which induced them to reunite… when mr. rochester decided to wear the pearl necklace he originally bought for jane for forever… when mr. rochester made up a story for little adèle about jane being an elf magically sent to him from the moon… when mr. rochester pulled jane onto his horse… when mr. rochester…
