Yogyakarta's Cultural Heritage: A Guide to Ancient Temples
Tumblr media
Yogyakarta, often fondly referred to as Jogja, is the heart of Javanese culture and history in Indonesia. This region is renowned for its ancient temples, which are not just architectural marvels but also repositories of the area's rich cultural and historical tapestry. These temples, or 'Candi' in Indonesian, range from Hindu to Buddhist, each telling its own story of the past. In this guide, we will explore some of the most significant ancient temples in Yogyakarta, offering insights into their history, architecture, and cultural significance.
Borobudur Temple Arguably the most famous and grandest of all Javanese temples, Borobudur is a 9th-century Mahayana Buddhist temple. It is the world's largest Buddhist temple and a UNESCO World Heritage site. The temple is known for its intricate lattice stupa, unique bell-shaped structures, and over 500 Buddha statues. The walls are adorned with bas-reliefs depicting the life of Buddha and various Jataka tales. Visiting Borobudur at sunrise is a breathtaking experience, offering both spiritual tranquility and a stunning panoramic view.
Prambanan Temple This Hindu temple complex, also a UNESCO World Heritage site, dates back to the 9th century and is dedicated to the Trimurti: Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva. Prambanan stands out for its tall and pointed architecture and the exquisite stone carvings that adorn its walls. The main temple, dedicated to Shiva, houses a magnificent statue of the deity. The temple complex also hosts the famous Ramayana Ballet, a performance that beautifully blends traditional dance and music with the epic tale of Ramayana.
Ratu Boko Palace Ratu Boko, lokasi terdekat Prambanan, is an archaeological site thought to have been a palace. It offers a different kind of temple experience, with its remnants of ancient pools, pavilions, and gates. The site, perched on a hill, provides a panoramic view of the surrounding area, including Prambanan and Mount Merapi.
Sewu Temple In the same complex as Prambanan, Sewu is the second largest Buddhist temple in Java. Although less ornate than Borobudur, Sewu is impressive in its scale and symmetry. The central temple is surrounded by numerous smaller temples, reflecting the Mahayana Buddhist cosmology.
Plaosan Temple Plaosan, located near Prambanan, is a blend of Hindu and Buddhist architectural elements, reflecting the cultural and religious diversity of ancient Java. The temple complex consists of two main temples adorned with intricate reliefs depicting various deities and scenes of daily life during the 8th century.
Sambisari Temple Discovered as recently as 1966, Sambisari is a 9th-century Hindu temple buried about five meters underground. Excavation revealed a well-preserved main temple surrounded by smaller lingam and yoni structures. The temple’s subterranean discovery adds to its mystique and allure.
Candi Ijo Perched on the highest hill in the region, Candi Ijo offers a serene atmosphere and a stunning view of Prambanan and the city. The temple, dating back to the 10th century, is dedicated to Shiva and features unique stone carvings and statues.
Candi Kalasan Dedicated to the goddess Tara, Candi Kalasan is an 8th-century Buddhist temple known for its elaborate and well-preserved ancient reliefs. It is believed to be the oldest Buddhist temple in Central Java, reflecting the architectural and sculptural artistry of its time.
Candi Mendut A stone’s throw away from Borobudur, Candi Mendut is a smaller yet significant Buddhist temple. It houses a large and iconic statue of Buddha sitting in the lotus position. The temple is often included as part of the pilgrimage route during Waisak, the Buddhist festival in Indonesia.
Candi Pawon Located between Borobudur and Mendut, Candi Pawon is often considered part of the Borobudur temple complex. Although smaller in size, it is significant for its detailed carvings and its role in the spiritual journey from Mendut to Borobudur.
Conclusion
Exploring the ancient temples of Yogyakarta is like walking through the pages of history. Each temple offers a unique glimpse into the past, showcasing the architectural, cultural, and spiritual legacy of the region. These temples are not just stone structures; they are the embodiment of Yogyakarta's enduring heritage and are essential for anyone seeking to understand the depth and diversity of Javanese culture. Whether you are a history enthusiast, a spiritual seeker, or simply a curious traveler, Yogyakarta’s temples are a mesmerizing and enlightening experience, promising to leave you with a profound sense of awe and respect for Indonesia's rich past.

Borobudur Temple Yogyakarta is the main destination of the travelers who visit Jogjakarta City. This Temple was built on the 8th - 9th centuries by Syailendra dynasty, Mahayana Buddhist temple . The Temple served as a symbol of the noble values and indigenous cult of ancestor worship and the Buddhist concept of attaining Nirvana.
Borobudur Temple was abandoned following the 14th century by the declining of Hindu kingdoms in Java Island, the Javanese conversion to Islam. The temple gained its worldwide acknowledgement of its existence in 1814, during British colonialism by the British ruler of Java Island.
The largest restoration project was undertaken between 1975 and 1982, Through the Indonesian government and UNESCO. During this early 20th century, The temples discovered that three Buddhist temples in the region, Borobudur, Pawon and Mendut Temple, are positioned along a straight line so it was concluded that a ritual relationship between this temple and other two temples must have an exist route, even though the exact ritual process is remaining unknown.

Mendut & Pawon Temples
Both temples, located close to each other, were built in the 9th century, during the reign of Syailendra Dynasty by King Indra, preceding the building of the more famous Borobudur temple, located farther away. The three temples are located on a straight line, perhaps a coincidence or a not-yet-understood symbolic meaning that binds the three temples. Mendut is the oldest of these three temples.
Mendut Temple has become the center of Buddhism practices and rituals, but is also as the place to meditate at the nearby Buddhist Monastery. The name Pawon suggests that this temple was probably built as a tomb or mortuary temple for a king, but the person entombed here is unknown (perhaps houses the ashes of a king, perhaps King Indra (r782 - 812 AD) of the Syailendra Dynasty, though that is not known for sure.

How to Use VPN Proxy Master to Explore Indonesia Virtually
The World Health Organization (WHO) has urged the world community to do physical distancing and avoid crowds to prevent the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19). Although the level of death rate of COVID-19 is low, the spread is so fast that it has created chaos in all aspects of life, ranging from economy, social, to tourism sector.
Government authorities in most of the world had ban all the tourism activities ever since the Covid-19 pandemic getting worsen. It doesn’t feel enjoyable, because school and office work are cancelled. Hence, it is not even possible to go overseas. But don’t worry, you can still travel using virtual reality or virtual travel just by using a smartphone or computer at home.
Activities such as touring the Museum, classical music concerts, or even seeing animal activities in the zoo can be done virtually nowadays. Here are several tourist attractions in Indonesia that provide a free virtual reality tour that you can access from the smartphone or computer at your convenience time.
 Monumen Nasional ( Monas )
The National monument is a tower in the center of Merdeka Square, Jakarta. The National monument of the Republic of Indonesia, symbolizing the fight for Indonesia, to commemorate the struggle for Indonesian independence.
 Borobudur Temple
World Heritage designation of the area of three Buddhist temples in Central Java, Indonesia. It comprises Borobudur, Mendut, and Pawon. The temples were built during the Shailendra dynasty around the 8th and 9th centuries CE and fall on a straight line.
Agung Rai Museum of Art ( ARMA )
Agung Rai Museum of Art (ARMA) was established for just such a purpose. Agung Rai, a Balinese who has devoted his life to the preservation of Balinese art and culture, found the ARMA Museum. It officially opened the Museum on June 9, 1996, by Prof. Dr. Ing. Wardiman Djojonegoro, the Minister for Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia. ARMA Foundation administers the Museum set up on May 13, 1996.
National Gallery ( Galeri Nasional )
Indonesian National Gallery stores, compiles and exhibits works of fine art such as paintings, sketches, graphics, sculpture, ceramics, photography, craft arts, and installation art. The National Gallery of Indonesia has about 1785 collections of Indonesian and foreign artists.
As for you who come from a country where some services above are limited, you can use a free VPN to help you to explore the Indonesia or the world without any limitation.
Wait, what is a VPN? Why should I use it? Is it safe?
To give you a better understanding, a VPN stands for Virtual Private Network. As the name, it helps you to make your online activities private. VPN designs to assign a random new IP address to you whenever you are connecting to the Internet using the VPN server. It works by creating a private tunneling for your traffic to flow through the encrypted server. So that no one will see what you are doing. This is the reason why the internet service provider (ISP) will not able to see your personal information at the backend.
With VPN Proxy Master app, you can access lots of your favourite content on the websites as well as on mobile apps. The most important benefit you can get by using a VPN is security and privacy protection. A fairly good VPN will use the best protocol and encryption such as AES 256 to protect your internet traffic.
Now, as you have know how to explore the world more freely using a VPN, don’t forget to share with your family and friends and enjoy the virtual travel during this COVID-19 period! Cheers

8-9 juillet - Marco

BKB: Pelestarian Borobudur butuh dukungan lingkungan-masyarakat
Tumblr media
Read the full article

Gasesti povestea , daca vrei, aici Dar calatoria trebuia sa mearga mai departe….Urmatorul reper geografic indonezian era Yogyakarta, inima  culturala a insulei Java.
Tumblr media
Welcome in Yogyakarta
Tumblr media
Holul hotelului Aloha
Micul dejun, servit discret dimineata in hol, a fost absolut fabulos.
Tumblr media

Tumblr media
Accesul vizitatorilor prin hotelul Manohara
Tumblr media
In intunericul ce te inconjoara, nu realizezi decat verticalitatea constructiei
Tumblr media

povesti in piatra
Tumblr media
Gasesti povestea , daca vrei,
