Mazda RX 87 Concept, 1967, by Bertone. Presented at the 14th Tokyo Motor Show, the RX 87 was the last Mazda designed by Giugiaro while he was still working for Bertone. It went into production in 1969 as the Luce R130 Coupé and remains the only front wheel drive rotary engined car Mazda ever produced. It sold very badly, with less than 1000 cars being made

First Look: The Mazda Vision Coupe Concept
Highlights of the Vision Coupe Concept include a KODO - Soul of Motion exterior that embodies a minimalist Japanese aesthetic, achieving a simple “one-motion” form that conveys a sense of speed. The interior applies the concept of ma (literally “space”) from traditional Japanese architecture, combining three-dimensional depth with a strong longitudinal axis to produce a relaxed space while maintaining the feeling of motion.
As for the concept’s name, it pays homage to Mazda’s tradition of design elegance represented by coupé models like the Mazda R360, Mazda’s first passenger car, and the Mazda Luce Rotary, also known as the Mazda R130.

What a difference 50 years makes Alternating views of Mazda RX 87, 1967 and Mazda Vision Coupé, 2017. The RX 87 was designed by by Giorgetto Giugiaro, then working for Bertone, and was a prototype for the Luce R130 of 1969 which was Mazda’s only front-drive rotary engined production car (though less than 100 were made). The Vision Coupé is a design study for the next generation Mazda 6
