An animation work modeled after a real martial artist. Masutatsu Oyama, not satisfied with the rules of karate that do not strike the opponent, established his own ``Kyokushinkai'' and spread it to the world. When I was young, I groaned at the story of how he secluded himself on Mt. Kiyosumi in Chiba Prefecture and cut off his eyebrows so that he would not be able to meet people until he became strong. You're going to get stronger.

However, Ikki Kajiwara, the original author, tends to exaggerate the story, and it must be discounted that many lies are written in "Karate Baka Ichidai".

実在の武道家がモデルのアニメーション作品。相手に打撃を加えない空手のルールに飽き足らず、独自の「極真会」を設立し、世界に広めた大山増達。若いころ、千葉県の清澄山に籠って修行し、強くなるまでは人に会えなくなるように眉毛を切り落とすというエピソードには唸った。強くなるわけだ。

ただし、原作者の梶原一騎は、話を誇張する傾向があり、「空手バカ一代」にも、多く嘘が書かれていることは、割り引かなければならない。

Godzilla vs. Megalon (1973) dir. Jun Fukuda

so: this is a very silly movie. looking back at my notes, i have more questions than comments: are they reusing footage from other Godzilla movies for the JSDF sequences? (yes) why did they bring in Gigan an hour into the film? (i don’t know) is Godzilla on the side of humanity as a favor to Jet Jaguar? (unclear) 

because it is still a Godzilla film, the anti-nuke sentiment is still present, but much more understated. nuclear testing and its consequences do propel the plot forward, but the plot is near incoherent. that being said— it’s great to see Megalon jumping around, and the rehabilitated Godzilla fighting alongside Jet Jaguar is fun to see. i will admit here that my partner and i watched it almost exclusively because we wanted to see the infamous Godzilla Tail Slide. 

i was also pleasantly surprised to recognize Masato Shimon, who sang the opening and ending themes for Kamen Rider, singing Jet Jaguar’s theme. punch, punch, punch!

If I'm not mistaken, the guy singing the Hawaiian Ultraseven opening is the singer of the Gingaman theme? Sounds just like him!

That’s a good ear you have there!  Though he did not sing the Japanese version, Masato Shimon (子門 真人) did sing the version for the Hawaiian dub.  He would later go on, under the name of Ryū Kisami (希砂未 竜) to provide the vocals for the Seijyuu Sentai Gingaman theme!

He was a pretty prolific theme singer in the 1970s, performing songs for:

Notes before reading: This is the translation/notes of the livestream on Joe’s Niconico channel with Toshiya as a guest last 4th February.  This is part 3.  The livestream was one hour and fifty min approx.
