In conclusion, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 emerges as a trailblazer in India's EV sector, poised to redefine standards and expectations. As the automotive industry transitions towards sustainability, the Ioniq 5 stands as a testament to Hyundai's commitment to innovation and excellence, setting the stage for a greener, more electrified future on Indian roads.

Two New SUVs From Mahindra South Africa Showcased At The 2023 SA Auto Week
Held at Gallagher Estate in Midrand, Gauteng, the SA Auto Week is South Africa’s premier industry event. It offers vehicle manufacturers like Mahindra an opportunity to discuss issues facing the local and global industry while also showcasing its newest innovations and vehicles.
The two models on display, now available at Mahindra Midrand, the all-new Scorpio-N and XUV700, physically manifest the spirit of the brand at SAAW 23 where the industry celebrates its South African manufacturing capability and the high-tech new products that will spearhead its advances into a new era of motoring.
Both new Mahindra models bring a host of new technologies to a market used to more budget-focused options.
For instance, the Mahindra XUV700 offers features such as a 26 cm Superscreen that incorporates the digital dashboard and a host of entertainment features, including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The infotainment system is connected to a 12-speaker 3D SONY sound system for the most immersive sound experience.
This model uses its array of cameras to offer a 360-degree view of the vehicle from inside, while also doubling up as a traffic camera while driving.
The Scorpio-N, in turn, brings real-world off-road capabilities to the adventure SUV segment with its 400 Nm turbodiesel engine and adaptive terrain response system that adjusts its operation based on the road conditions in the off-road capable Scorpio-N.
“Having laid a solid foundation over the past 19 years, we now shift gears and focus on expanding our range of Authentic SUVs and Authentic bakkies. This will not only help us to maintain the momentum that has made us the fastest-growing brand in 2022 but will also give us a varied product offering that will appeal to virtually all consumer groups,” says Rajesh Gupta, CEO of Mahindra South Africa.
Tumblr media
With reference to the solid foundation that Mahindra has laid in South Africa, Rajesh mentions the recent investment in a new state-of-the-art warehouse in Linbro Park, Gauteng, and its growing network of dealers that currently stand at 74 showrooms covering all nine provinces and every major city and town - like our favourite Mahindra dealer in Midrand, Gauteng.
Speaking on the sidelines of the SA Auto Week, Rajesh also highlighted the significant investment in improving the Mahindra Assembly Facility at the Dube TradePort in KwaZulu-Natal.
The facility, which produced its first proudly South African Pik Up in 2018, has since been upgraded to include a comprehensive post-production testing track, a modern painting facility and a more streamlined production line.
With these upgrades, the assembly facility can produce in excess of 500 Pik Ups a month across the entire product range, from the entry-level Pik Up S4 Dropside to the coveted Pik Up Karoo Dusk, Dawn and Storm with their six-speed automatic transmissions.
“Our next step will be to introduce special edition models of the XUV300, Scorpio-N and Pik Up. The last mentioned will be expanded with the introduction of a single-cab Pik Up Karoo Dawn with a 4×4 drivetrain.
“We have also listened to the calls by Mahindra fans and will soon introduce a special Mahindra Scorpio-N Adventure Edition, complete with custom-built approach and departure bumpers, off-road focused tyres and suspension and a number of interior additions.
“Lastly, our range will soon include a Mahindra XUV300 XPREZ. This panel van version is custom-built for South Africa and will offer safe, cost-effective and reliable transport for businesses looking for a commercial vehicle in the sub-one-tonne market,” says Rajesh.

Mahindra Scorpio N vs Mahindra XUV700 Comparison
Mahindra unveiled another hit with the Mahindra Scorpio N after lighting up the sales chart with the XUV700. Although the Scorpio N is a more robust choice supported by a ladder frame and the XUV700 is a monocoque-based SUV with an urban focus, they share many features, including a 7-seat layout, engines, and transmissions. Some models of both vehicles also have similar costs. What distinguishes these two Mahindra cars, and which should you choose?
Tumblr media
Exterior and interior
The new Scorpio N retains the same historic design elements as the previous model but has been modernized. It has all the necessary components for a butch SUV, including an intimidating grille, a flat bonnet, a slab-sided profile, and roof rails. Old-school SUV consumers yearn for an SUV that appears as tough and indestructible as the Scorpio N. However, consumers seeking a chic, urban crossover are probably drawn to the Mahindra XUV700.
Tumblr media
And if the Scorpio N's interiors significantly improve, the XUV700's cabin raises the bar significantly. The second-row backrest may be reclined, and the softer seat padding adds comfort. Adults will be okay with sitting here compared to the Scorpio N because the XUV has a roomier third row and a lower floor than the Scorpio N.
However, none of the cars has a large boot to hold much more than a few soft cabin bags while all the seats are in position. The Scorpio N has a somewhat awkward swing-opening tailgate, unlike the XUV, which has a usually opening boot.
Price and features
The XUV700 costs Rs 23.1 lakh, and the Mahindra Scorpio N price is Rs 22.9 lakh (on average ex-showroom prices) when equipped with a fully loaded diesel manual two-wheel drive (ex-showroom, India). Six airbags, leatherette upholstery, a touchscreen with 12 Sony speakers, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a surround camera, a motorized driver's seat, all-wheel disc brakes, and other features are all standard on both vehicles. Before buying any of the two, compare cars in India right over at autoX.
The XUV700 boasts a panoramic sunroof, dual digital screens for the instrument cluster and central touchscreen, and reclining middle-row seats in exchange for an additional Rs 2.5 lakh in features. You get your money's worth from it since it also features a variety of advanced driving assistance systems (ADAS), including adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, autonomous emergency braking, and more.
Powertrain and ride
A 2.2-liter diesel engine from Mahindra powers these vehicles. It is longitudinally installed in the Scorpio N and develops 172 bhp and 370 Nm of torque. A 6-speed manual gearbox sends the engine's power to the rear wheels. On the other hand, it generates 153 bhp and 450 Nm in the Mahindra XUV700, where it is installed transversely and is coupled to a 6-speed manual transmission to drive the front wheels. The Scorpio N quickly generates speed, and its powerful mid-range makes overtaking simple. It offers a more pleasant power delivery and is more linear regarding drivability. The XUV700, in contrast, seems much livelier and lighter on its feet while delivering power. You may even cause some wheel spin because the boost seems much greater and dumps power to the front wheels.

Mahindra New Cars: Everything You Need to Know
Introduction:
With the Scorpio-N, Mahindra has surpassed all other SUV manufacturers in India. Yet, the influx of new Mahindra vehicles is still ongoing. A detailed list of the Mahindra lineup for 2023 and 2024 can be found here.
1. Mahindra XUV400 EV:
The first of many Mahindra New Cars scheduled for that year, the XUV400, would be made available by Mahindra in January 2023. There is more to Mahindra's upcoming electric vehicle in India than just a plug-in XUV300. Both in terms of size and power, it is more substantial. A Li-ion battery with a 39.4 kilowatt-hour capacity powers one motor.
Maximum horsepower and torque are rated at 147.5 hp and 310 Nm, respectively. The electric SUV can reach up to 150 kilometers per hour and can cover an acceleration distance of 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 8.3 seconds.
A fully charged Mahindra XUV400 has a maximum range that has been validated by ARAI of 456 kilometres. The Mahindra New Vehicles will compete in the market for electric vehicles, just like the Tata Nexon EV. It can be charged to 100% using a 50 kW DC fast charger in 50 minutes, but it will take 6 hours and 30 minutes to reach 80% using a 7.2 kW/32A outlet. Three distinct "driving modes" for the forthcoming electric Vehicle will either extend range or speed. Having fun, moving rapidly, and not being afraid of the unknown are a few of these traits. Some of the highlights include six airbags, a sunroof, a 7-inch touchscreen entertainment system, a rear-view camera, and more than 60 different networking options.
2. Mahindra eKUV100:
The Mahindra KUV100 will replace the KUV90, a B1-segment hatchback with SUV styling that was discontinued due to poor sales. Mahindra now seems poised to give the KUV100 new life by turning its slowly selling vehicle into an electric vehicle (EV).
3. Mahindra Thar 5-Door:
The Scorpio and Bolero, two of Mahindra's best-known off-road vehicles, have a reputation for dependability and toughness. The Thar, however, distinguishes out from the competition in terms of both performance and looks. The new Thar has been one of India's most well-liked vehicles since its release. Sometime around 2023, the new Thar 5-Door variant will be available. The 2.0L Turbo-petrol and 2.2L diesel engines in the current Thar 5-Door may or may not receive an improved tune, but you anticipate they will be retained.
4. Mahindra XUV Aero:
The Mahindra XUV Aero first debuted at the 2016 Auto Expo. Mahindra eventually abandoned the idea in favor of the XUV700 and the Scorpio-N. Therefore, the design was never put into production. However, the crossover SUV may be released by the end of 2023. While the XUV Aero concept looks like the Mahindra XUV 500, the production model may take design cues from the XUV700 and the Born Electric idea. The coupe-crossover body design will continue to be used.
5. Mahindra XUVe8 (XUV700 EV):
Even though the Mahindra XUV700 has already achieved remarkable success, the company is working on a new version of its best-selling flagship model. The Mahindra XUV700 EV, which is slated to be on sale in India by the end of 2019, has the potential to be the country's first fully electric sport utility vehicle. The new model will have the same high-end features as the XUV700 AX7L. Digital gauge cluster, automatic dual-zone climate control, panoramic sunroof, 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility, and a 360-degree camera just a few of the goodies that come standard on this particular model.
6. Mahindra Bolero Neo Plus:
Mahindra reintroduced the TUV300, this time as the Bolero Neo, in July 2021. Since the Mahindra New Cars release, it has been widely expected that the larger TUV300 Plus will be phased out in favor of the Bolero Neo Plus. It is now anticipated that the same will debut in the first quarter of 2023. The huge SUV may be had with as many as nine seats, making it a tough people carrier. The Bolero Neo Plus should have a refined version of the dependable 2.2L diesel engine seen in the Scorpio Classic under the hood. The powerplant will be paired with a standard 6-speed manual gearbox.

Everyone Is Talking About The Mahindra XUV700 Makes
We simply loved this article by Kabelo Chabalala about the Mahindta XUV700 for sale - a new-age luxury SUV available in South Africa.
On two occasions, the Mahindra XUV700 almost gave me a heart attack.
The first instance involved parking in the underground parking at the Mall@Reds in Centurion for a quick supermarket dash. Upon my return, five car guards were surrounding the car, frantically looking for something. I was alarmed! And paranoid that someone had bumped the car.
The real reason was far more innocent.
About 10 metres from the car, I took out the car key to unlock it. This was to signal to them that I was approaching, but instead of them moving away from the car, at the sight of the pop-up door handles, they lost their cool and started screaming. They were in total awe. The top-of-the-range 2.0T AX7 L finished in its signature Electric Blue hue had them losing their minds. In unison, they all asked, “Which brand is this beautiful car? We circled the car trying to find the name with no luck. We also don’t recognise the logo”.
In the second incident, I had taken the car for a wash around Centurion. As I sat at a restaurant across the car wash, I watched a man, probably in his late 40s or early 50s, walking straight to the bay where they were vacuuming the car, to inquire about it.
He circled the car three times while I watched from a distance.
Luckily, I had told the ladies and gentlemen at the car wash where I would be, and one of them came to me to ask about the car and confirm the brand name.
It dawned on me that either the carmaker did not make enough noise about the new Mahindra SUV logo, or people are simply ignorant. Nevertheless, the new logo debuted on the XUV700, which explains why a lot of people did know that it is the new Mahindra logo, specifically for their Sport Utility Vehicle range.
This particular change was inspired by the brand’s belief that as a driver of one of their SUVs, you can go where you want, when you want, in complete style. And style was not in short supply when it came to the XUV700. The biggest talking point of this car for me is the price the XUV700 is for sale at, which is no more than R560,000 for the top-of-the-range variant, AX7 L, which I drove.
It comes in three offerings - the mid-specced AX7, which will make your pocket less rich at just over R500,000, and the AX5 base model, which is priced at around R480,000.
Anyone with a big family will be happy with this price tag. And it is not a lazy car.
When you get on the open road, with all three powered by a 2.0-Litre turbo petrol engine, the acceleration to the legal maximum speed of 120km/h makes you appreciate the 149kW and 380Nm it produces. It is a front-wheeler with a six-speed automatic gearbox.
With its big size, I found myself wishing for a moment it was an all-wheel drive, but I quickly remembered that this car was for comfort, proving it is indeed targeting family-oriented customers. I am willing to bet that, had I kept that car for one more week, there would have been even more drama surrounding it, from the church parking lot to our garage.
