I have the worst Leon brainrot so here’s some other Leon x himbo bf stuff I came up w (>_<)
Overly protective Leon who never lets reader out of his sight bc he knows that reader will get in trouble if he’s not w them 24/7 and reader is just so cute and oblivious to absolutely everything and Leon doesn’t want his pretty boy to get hurt!
(I’m the anon who wrote the Leon x himbo bf ask n now I’m obsessed w Leon I love him sm aaaa)
ahhhh me too!!! pretty boy jus occupies my mind all the time!! went for a hike this mornin n all i could think about was how easy leon would get through it… think m’in love ໒꒰ྀི𖦹̀ ˬ 𖦹꒱ྀི১
leon considers buyin you a leash. jus cause you’re always runnin around n gettin lost n then when he finds you, you have the audacity to pout n whine about it like… he’s the one who left you? no!!! it was all you!! n knowin you, you probably got all distracted chasin after a leon-shaped cloud ໒꒰ྀི*ฅ́˘ฅ̀* ꒱ྀིა ♡‧₊ he doesn like how close to danger you can get, especially when it’s obvious to everyone but you that you can’t jus… hug n make up. some of these sick people are out for blood, n don’t care how sweet or kindhearted you are!!
buuuut he finds it really sweet when you, his dummy of a boyfriend, ramble abt how big n strong you are— how you’ll protect him from anythin that comes his way. even if it’s always the other way around, he likes humorin you!! n the way your eyes jus…sparkle when he says he’ll give you a kiss as thanks for the s grade ‘protection’
yknow how leon grabs the pipe from luis in that cutscene from the remake? says somethin along the lines of ‘put that down, you’re gonna hurt yourself.’ !! i can imagine him sayin that to his himbo bf, especially when he’s askin for a gun he has never used in his life.

another broke take i keep seeing is that ashley develops feelings for leon but that it’s not mutual, which is dumb bc even if leon isn’t as open about it (the ‘running from creeps’ and ‘good company’ lines notwithstanding), his body language is very telling imo.
holding on to her a little longer than he needs to during the church escape, touching her shoulder to check on her (when they’re saved by luis) or in reassurance (post-stabbing), gently cupping her head and tracing his fingers down her arm, reaching for her face again when she’s on the altar, grabbing her hand to pull her into the lift, and the way he always stops to help her up with both arms when she’s downed by enemies
even the fact that he’s literally being paid to protect her can’t justify the tenderness of all these little touches. i highly doubt “touch the president’s daughter like she’s the only thing that keeps you going” was in his job description. don’t even get me started on his boyish, almost bashful, “i can catch ya” like literally what the fuck
I think, after being forced into the shadows for eighteen fucking years by this fandom -- and by Aeon fans especially -- I've been hesitant to make any definitive statements on Leon and Ashley's relationship outside of its effects on Leon's character arc (and reaffirming over and over and over again that Ashley disappears from the series, as though to soothe people's reactions??).
But I was on discord talking to @godtier earlier, and once I actually said it out loud and then actually got an agreement from someone who could not be paid to give a fucking shit about this ship -- I'm just going to go ahead and say it for the wider fandom.
Resident Evil 4 Remake was written as a romance, and the romance is between Leon and Ashley.
With the new scenes they've added in, it's literally structured like a romance story is. I'll even outline it for you.
1) Call to Adventure / The Meet Cute
Literally their first meeting in the church, culminating with the catch and that moment of longing as they lock eyes while Leon continues to hold her just a few seconds too long.
2) Refusal of the Call / Rejection of the Relationship
At first, Leon treats Ashley solely as his mission objective. ("Hey can we take a break?" "Sorry, we need to keep moving.") And Ashley, for a good bit, doesn't trust him at all but goes with him because she has no other choice. ("Seriously, this cannot be happening.")
3) Acceptance of the Quest / Giving the relationship a chance
The escape from the cabin sequence up to the "seems this isn't your first time running from creeps." line. This is where we see them actually start to warm up to each other, and Ashley, for the first time, believes Leon can and will really get her out of there.
4) Trials and Temptations / Three Dates
The three dates are:
1) Ashley busting the window open after the Mendez boss fight, helping brush the embers off of Leon, and helping to pull him to his feet
2) Salazar's introduction ("The girl's just fine. With me.")
3) The road to the Water Hall (Leon jumping across the chandeliers + this is the first time the "knight and the princess" allegory is stated)
5) Midpoint Crisis / I-need-you-but-can’t-have-you
The stab followed by Ashley running away in tears, terrified of hurting Leon again and horrified that he saw her like that. This is also the second time that the "knight and the princess" allegory is stated.
6) The Road Back / Pulling Back Together
The pep talk. Leon is openly vulnerable for the first time ever in this game, and Ashley is grateful to have him with her. Note that Luis calls Leon "Prince Charming" immediately following this scene.
7) The Fall
Ashley stating "I won't run. Wait for me, Leon." And then Leon following up with the "I can catch ya" line.
8) Dark moment / The Break Up
Leon sitting at Ashley's bedside waiting to turn and ready to shoot himself. He's already half given up, and some part of him has started to believe that they won't actually make it out of here -- not together, at least.
9) The Sacrifice
"This time, it has to be different." Leon is forced to challenge the assertion by Ada and Krauser that he hasn't changed, and he even has to prove it to himself. He destroys Ashley's plaga, holding her hand the whole time, smiles breathlessly, then collapses to the floor.
10) Declaration
"Hey... we're a team, right?" "Keep this up? I'll be out of a job."
11) The HEA
Leon and Ashley literally ride off into the sunrise together towards a happily ever after.
The original RE4 is not structured this way. Even if I tried to, I couldn't slot Leon and Ashley's scenes from OG into this outline.
And the romance angle is reinforced over and over and over again through repeated use of the "knight and the princess" allegory beyond what I've even listed in the outline. You know, the fairy tales about the knight who saves the princess and they fall in love and live happily ever after. In addition to Salazar saying it, there's the "Prince Charming" line from Luis, Ashley references it when she jokes that Leon should literally put on the knight's armor -- and, on a meta level, Leon has a fucking fantasy hero costume.
There's even goddamn dialogue in the game where Ashley says to Leon, "I knew you'd come" -- which is basically just ripped right out of the Princess Bride.
And to continue the meta reinforcement of it, Leon and Ashley literally have a matching set of alternate costumes called "Romantic" -- and they are fucking Romeo & Juliet inspired. Come the fuck on, man. They couldn't have been more on the nose about it if they'd tried.
And this is in addition to all the other shit you already pointed out in your ask.
And there's the fact that they completely removed any hint of Ada possibly even remotely being a love interest for Leon in this game. The focus remains solely on Ashley and the bond that she and Leon build together.
Leon and Ashley's relationship in RE4 Remake is canonically romantic in nature, and I'm so fucking tired of pretending like it's not.

resident evil 4 remake - what each character would be doing on christmas headcanons !
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
ada wong
she wouldn't be too big on celebrating, although she would treat herself with the money she got from missions. she would buy herself new clothes (she's a fashion icon), jewellery, perfume, makeup etc.
if she felt like it, she might even send leon a little present, even if it's not much it's the thought that counts. it'd be a small token of her love to show she still thinks about him, since they rarely see eachother.
ashley graham
she would LOVE christmas and celebrating it, it's one of her favourite holidays if not her favourite. she would always make sure to have the decorations up, christmas music playing from her record player as soon as it's december 1st.
she would spend the day with her father, opening the gifts he bought her which she deeply appreciates. she'd even buy him gifts, wanting to show how much she appreciates him, especially after the incident of her being kidnapped.
since she's rich (obviously being the president's daughter and all), she would buy her friends big gifts, like a brand new phone. she would say she's sorry that she couldn't get much, despite it being more than most people can afford.
she would probably even make a little handmade gift for leon, wanting it to be made herself instead of something she bought as it's more meaningful that way.
albert wesker
i can't imagine him being much of a festive guy, he wouldn't really celebrate. he'd take the day to have a rest and break, lying in bed for most of the day (he's an old man okay leave him alone).
ingrid hunnigan
much like wesker, i feel she wouldn't celebrate as much, but she would spend time with her family if they wanted her to. when she got back though, she'd definitely rest and just lay in bed, thankful she doesn't have to deal with leon's jokes for a day.
leon scott kennedy
in re2 remake, he definitely loved christmas, it was his favourite holiday. but by re4 remake, he began to not have time for those things, working for the d.s.o and all. he would take the day off to finally have a break from it all, drinking alcohol and getting drunk most of the day (are we even surprised?).
if ada did send him a gift, he would do the same cute smile he done when she gave him the key for the jet ski. he hadn't had time to buy or make anything himself, he felt bad about it but knew she wouldn't mind anyway.
luis serra navarro
same as ashley, he would LOVE christmas. he would be singing all the popular christmas songs like last christmas, all i want for christmas is you, rockin' around the christmas tree etc. he would have all the decorations up, although it would make him a little sad sometimes he didn't have loved ones to share the christmas joy with anymore.
merchant
he would have the best sales on around christmas time, especially after because he knows people are gonna be spending all their money.
he would even sell some little christmas keychain charms to put on your case, which are super cute (both ashley and luis would buy them if they could).
he'd also put some christmas lights on his setup, along with a tiny slow globe.
sorry if these are ooc this is my first time making headcanons💔 its very obvious i love ashley just from this post

Ada/Aeon stuff I'll miss from OG Separate Ways
Disclaimer: Some moments we know are not in RE4R, some we don't know yet...
Screenshots are from Mike Bettencourt's playthrough and the RE wikia.
The moments that aren't in RE4R anymore:
Ada defying Wesker’s orders to kill Leon. She even says “Leon, I’m sorry but I can’t be seen with you” in the OG cutscene when she stumbles upon him in the gallery room.
In Umbrella Chronicles, Wesker says "And you Ada... You have also failed. Your actions in betraying us and helping that Leon fellow will have consequences for our organization."
Based on the above line, we knew Wesker found Leon to be a thorn in his side. Why they cut this in RE4R and make Wesker not give a damn about Leon, I don’t know.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ada saves Leon’s ass from Krauser. Heck, it was the chapter's objective! I’m torn that this scene is now given to Luis in RE4R.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Just look at the sweet button prompt to intervene.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Just love the moment where Ada's bullet makes contact with Krauser's knife and it SHINGS.
Ada leaving little a few notes for Leon in-game.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The first time is an anonymous letter.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And look at the lipstick mark, how cute!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The last note she sends is so extra, via a paper airplane through a window. Now in RE4R, we have them talking on comms and while that’s nice, letters are more physical, and I feel have more impact you know?
Leon shoots the rope and lets her fall on boxes in the OG. He lets her fall on hard metal scaffolding in the remake and I find it unintentionally hilarious.
Tumblr media
The moments that may or may not be in RE4R Separate Ways DLC:
Ada seeing Leon running away from the villagers. You can hear him firing his gun too as you run around the village square.
Tumblr media
Ada inadvertently sets up the church puzzle in the OG.
There is a very complicated puzzle near the lake in the remake that looks similar to the catseye puzzle and I don't know if Ada had a hand in that. Or maybe she has a hand in the gates that bar the church's entrance?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ada rings the church bell for Leon. I hope it's Ada that rings it in the remake and not Luis.
Tumblr media
Ada reading a book in the village. She also holds her PDA in one hand to sass at Wesker as she reads and I find that very amusing.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ada can see a villager wearing Leon’s jacket.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If you examine the jet ski key in OG, Leon notices there is a zipper at the back of the bear. I can't currently find a walkthrough that shows the player examining it but I do remember seeing the description before. Not sure if anyone has examined the key in remake and I am not sure if it has a zipper at all?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I have the RE Archives II book and I remember squeeing so hard when I read the above description.

so im coming to you, the leading scientist in ashley graham-ology, to say you are SO right. there is literally no difference between ashley in the original and the remakes. they didn't make improve on her characterization, they just gave her scenes that endear her to the player, and even though they're very sweet moments... they don't give us anything new? i mean, it's nice for her to have moments where she can express her feelings, i mean she's been kidnapped and taken to a foreign village so thats going to be at the forefront of her mind, but we get nothing deeper about her. frankly, we get more new characterization from the sorority sticker on her phone and her casual outfit than we do in most of the new scenes. everyone else gets retooled stories, and she is very much the same. and, imo, at best she is a slightly more polished version of her old self (which is not saying much because she was never given a lot to begin with), and at worst she feels like she falls into only being important when it comes to leons development. anyways srry 4 rambling but yes! I agree with you!
You’re right in every way ugh I hate it so much. Like they COULD have expanded upon her in a way that both fit the context and the narrative while still making her a more fleshed out character. Luis got a whole ass backstory and people keep drawing cutesy art of him with his old team of Umbrella researchers who we never knew and don’t matter, but people only talk about Ashley in the context of Leon.
And the problem is that the game does this too! It isn’t just fandom misogyny this time (though that’s obviously at play sometimes) but everything Ashley does is just her being a victim, or relating her to Leon. Even the funny and cute stuff brought over from the og doesn’t get to be about her! Ashley operating the wrecking ball is a setup for Leon to comment on “what they’re teaching kids these days” when in the og it’s unexplained and that kinda implies it’s just something she knows how to do. And it’s funny without context, but in the game the context they give just makes her look stupid for comparing it to driver’s ed.
She helps put out the fire on Leon after his fight with Mendez. See? She’s helpful now! She tries to hit Leon with a candelabra when he shows up instead of cowering in terror like in the og. See? She’s #girlboss now! She doesn’t flirt with him or call him a pervert for acting like a pervert. See? She’s mature now! She says “We can protect the U.S. from all threats!” See? She’s patriotic now! She’s mind controlled and holds a knife up to her throat instead of panicking and running in fear. See? She’s less of a crybaby now! She gets one (1) good outfit (that only came with preordered games) See? She has personality now! (except it’s entirely cosmetic and has no effect on how she is in game) She now has a slimmer face, blue eyes, obvious makeup on, and her hair covers her “dumbo ears.” See? She’s attractive now!
But she doesn’t get a motherfucking personality, when she’s the ONLY character who didn’t get one. Luis gets more backstory, Krauser gets more (incorrect/conflicting) backstory, motherfucking SALAZAR gets more backstory. But not Ashley! Not the g-d damn, entire focal point and center of the entire game, not the main female character, she gets g-d damn nothing!
Here, off the top of my head, here’s little bits of dialogue that could deepen her character yet still fit in the game
A: I can’t wait to see my dad again. I miss him so much.
L: You two close?
A: Yeah. He’s a great dad. He had to be, we’re the only family each other’s got
L: I promise I’ll get you home safe, Ashley.
or, alternatively
A: I’m so nervous to see my dad again. I hope he isn’t mad about the kidnapping
L: Mad? It’s not your fault
A: I know, but…it feels like it is. It feels like I did something wrong. I shouldn’t have been caught.
L: It isn’t your fault, Ashley, and I’m sure your dad won’t be upset. He’ll be happy to see you
A: I hope so
or, again alternatively
A: So, how’d you become an agent anyway? My bodyguards, [name and name] say you’re the best in the business.
L: It’s a long story
A: Tell me when we get back, then?
L: Sure. It’s not very fun, though
A: What’s that supposed to mean?
L: Nothing, don’t worry about it…let’s just say, it involves someone you remind me of
(there so all the fangirls can cry about how emo Leon is while Ashley gets confirmed to have relationships)
or,
A: I can’t believe I went to that party. I didn’t even want to go.
L: Why’d you go, then?
A: My sorority sisters told me to come. I wasn’t gonna turn them down.
L: They good friends?
A: Not really. More like colleagues, I guess
or,
L: They took your jacket
A: Yeah. They can keep it, honestly. I never liked that thing
L: Why wear it, then?
A: Dad says it looks good for public appearances
See? Would it have been that hard?

I finished re4r awhile ago and it was FANTASTIC.
I feel they really did the original justice. I enjoyed the QOL improvements that were made. Having your knife being able to parry is awesome and very satisfying. It's quite the game changer! The fact that you can use it even against one hit kill bosses like dr. salvador is so neat! While I don't like stealth typically, it's a welcome addition since the game doesn't force it on you. Having the option to pick off a few enemies silently is nice although I feel doing this made little difference in terms of making taking down the rest of the enemies easier tbh. Being able to simply kick and elbow barrels and crates instead of painstakingly having to shoot or knife them is probably an afterthought for others but i highly appreciated this. Crafting ammo and grenades is new feature that saved my ass a few times so needless to say love it lol. And next up the biggest change in the game, you can move and shoot now! Lol. Something I never quite got use to however was the 180 degree turn. In old RE, it was down + x (on ps at least). Now it's down + R1, which feels very unnatural to me. I dealt with it but eh, not very comfortable with this change. Leon overall controls pretty well despite this. I love that you can change weapons on the fly now instead of always having to go into the attache case. I do kinda miss seeing Leon on the side in the attache case menu lol. The merchant returns! With a nice little bonus, side quests! They are completely optional but doing them can net you extra rewards. The shooting range is back and I LOVE that they used 'The Drive' song and remixed it! Especially the way it amps up during bonus time, ugh so good. The fucking nostalgia man. Going on to story and characters now. I love that Ashley feels like an actual character and more realistic this time around. Her redesign is rly cute too. Luis being more present and fleshed out was great too. I have to say I think I actually prefer how his death was handled in the remake. It felt more emotional and impactful. Ok so with Leon. First off, I admittedly am always nervous with how characters are going to look because I'm not always crazy with how capcom handles redesigns and characters' faces. But holy crap, LEON THO. Every version of Leon can get it but Re4 Leon is my fave Leon so needless to say when I saw him for the first time in that reveal trailer, Me = deceased. He looks so goddamn good. I thought I had it bad for him back then, nah. Now, I'm fucking embarrassingly OBSESSED with this man. I want to devour him. It was hard to not stop every two seconds when playing to admire his....assets lmaooo. I think some ppl didn't like that he seems more grounded this time around but I actually don't mind it at all. They found a nice middle ground where Leon is def more serious than before but he still throws out one liners here and there. So his corny side is still very much present but he doesn't seem as cocky as before. Ada looks great and is as mysterious as ever lol. Story beats were mostly the same, a few things tweaked of course but I was satisfied with how the narrative was handled. And omg, was so nice to see certain costumes and weapons plus easter eggs make a comeback! The freaking gangster suit, armor for Ashely, the chicago typewriter and the reload animation, him sitting down on the chair and posing fabulously, etc. I'm just so over the moon for this game. It's one of my favorite games of all time and I couldn't be happier with the end result. I remember hearing when this was getting a remake and being like but why? Re4 doesn't need a remake. But now having played it, it's so well done and I'm so glad Capcom didn't screw it up lol. It was a blast reliving this masterpiece all over again 🥲.

My opinion of RE4 Remake is that it’s pretty good. It had a lot to live up to since 4 is one of my all time favorites. Definitely better than the 3 remake. I have only a few gripes I’ll describe below the read more so spoilers ahead!
As a note on my Hunnigan portrayal, Sally Saffiotti will always be the voice of Hunnigan for me. Her new character model though is superb compared to her old one. A few things will stick with the original canon, nothing too major though.
SPOILERS
ICKS:
They made knife durability a thing and I hate it.
They took out a lot of Hunnigan’s cheeky dialogue like the “didn’t they teach you to pick locks” line or “finally the line’s jack free” and so on. I wish they’d kept that in. It made her feel more like a character instead of a stone monolith Leon just reports to.
Finally! After the fish fight Ingrid finally acts like she gives a shit. However, this would have been a wonderful spot for another Hunnigan cutscene imo. Maybe her trying to contact him is what helps wake him on the boat and then it’s all one neat tidy cutscene. Give Hunnigan more cutscenes CapCom.
Water graphics are bleh. I can see why people were complaining about the rain now. The RE engine isn’t great with water, but the amazing detail on everything else made it stand out.
The whole Salazar intercom system in the castle made no sense. How can he converse with a mumbling Leon through those brass tubes? It made way more sense in the original that he and Saddler hijacked Leon’s earpiece signal while jamming his connection to Hunnigan.
Wesker’s voice was bad. Big dislike. Didn’t sound menacing or Wesker-like in the least.
The end scene when Hunnigan comes through was…bad. Was it supposed to be comedic with him not answering and the whole antiquated “is this thing on” joke? Seems stupid if he wants to get Ashley home. It made zero sense. Also, no telling Hunnigan she’s kinda cute without her glasses? No asking for her number? Boo. Sad day.
PRAISES:
I like the direction they’ve taken with Luis in the remake. He seems way more complex and fleshed out. In the original, he really seemed like the comedic sidekick and nothing more.
Ashley’s AI is sooooo much better and more intuitive than the original. I also like that she’s less shrill and annoying while still sounding legit terrified. I get Ash was scared in the original but it was hard to have sympathy when she’s screaming every five seconds.
I do like that Leon & Hunnigan already have met before the game. The fact that a handler and field agent meet in the middle of a mission always seemed silly to me. I choose to believe Leon still told Hunnigan he thought she’d be older when they first met though. For the giggles.
The Leon v Mendez fight was amazing. Just as creepy as the old one. The one liners were *chef’s kiss*. Favorite one out of all the bosses. The centipede spine thing looks so much grosser (in the best way).
The Ashley and Leon heart to heart was very sweet. It’s interesting Leon says “you can’t run away, you have to move forward” given the mental shit, alcoholism and guilt he goes through later. Rules for thee but not for me, eh, Leon?
Luis’ final scene & the intro of Krauser were so much better than the original. And the Don Quixote references were great all throughout. Funny without being overt. Very good. Once again, this Luis is better than the original imo.
Leon’s little lip quiver after the Krauser fight! My poor baby boy! Let me give you hugs! Such a good detail. Leon’s character model in general is just amazing. I just miss the tiddy strap :/

Roots [Chapter One] Trust No One [Leon S. Kennedy]
Tumblr media
A/n: I went back and rewrote this chapter a bit to fit the remake. Please enjoy.
Warning(s): Dark themes, spy OC, mentions of blood, close-quarters combat, threats, and violence.
No Minors Allowed!!
“Señorita (miss) Are you awake?” A baritone voice asked over the low roar of the car’s engine.
Eloise opened her tired eyes and peered over at the driver across from her, humming to show him that she was awake. It was not like she could go to sleep with him hitting every bump in the road; the area he was taking her to was far out in the countryside; a place called Valdelobos.
“We are almost to the village,” he mentioned.
The nametag on his shirt read Alverez, but Eloise remembered that he had introduced himself as Bernal back at the station. He was a stout man with a mustache and a beard, but he spoke very little unless he wanted to, which in the end made her job much easier.
Eloise sat up in her seat with a groan.
“Thank you. How much longer do you think it will be?”
“Not long,” Bernal uttered.
Eloise shook her head and dug through her pocket for her burner phone. She was under orders to check in once she reached the village, but she wasn’t aware of just how long the drive was. Humming in annoyance, she went into her gallery and took another look at the only two images she had in the saved file.
The first was a picture she took of a young woman with short blonde hair sporting a cute smile. Her name is Ashley; the kidnapped daughter of US President Graham; one of the reasons Eloise was in a car.
She wasn’t alone, however. US-STRATCOM, a unified combatant command in the US Department of Defense sent her and another agent; Leon Kennedy, only Eloise arrived in Spain before him and left him to babysit the extra backup.
Leon was meant to be the only agent sent since the Department of Defense believed someone from the inside kidnapped Ashley, but the Secretary disagreed and after a thorough background search, Eloise was put on the mission too. She had never met Leon before, but if the rumors about him were true, he was a damn good agent.
Too bad she didn’t have the time to wait around for him. This brought her to the most important reason she was in Spain and the second picture on her phone.
Luis Sera, a native of Spain and a biologist. He was recruited into Los Iluminados, a neopagan cult responsible for the kidnapping of Ashley Graham. According to the files Eloise read about them, Los Iluminados recruited Luis Sera into their research department to genetically engineer bio-weapons and Plagas, a genus of parasitic arthropod native to Spain and said to influence their host’s actions by latching onto the nervous system. Dr. Sera was able to steal a Dominant Plagas species and needed a way to escape the cult.
Eloise was that way.
She, unfortunately, worked for another master besides the US Department of Defense; a developer of illegal bioweapons known as the Organization. As a soldier with years of medical training, Eloise was the right choice for the mission; her commanding officer in the H.C.F. chose her in particular due to her connections in the Department of Defense, and though she was not eager to assist the Organization, there was not much she could do in terms of saying no. Their roots were buried deep in her; too deep to tear out.
Eloise was a stray dog and if ordered to, she’d sink her teeth into anyone. Even her country.
“We are here, señorita (miss),” Bernal declared as he slowed the vehicle to a stop.
Eloise shoved her phone back into her pocket and peered out at the stretch of a dirt road in front of her. There was no village as far as she could see, just trees on either side of her.
Hearing a peck on the window, she turned her attention to Bernal.
“This is as far as I can take you in the car,” he mentioned. “But there is a path leading into the forest that lets out near the village gate.”
Eloise hummed.
“I understand. Thank you for taking me this far.”
“It’s none of my business, señorita (miss), but isn’t there meant to be two of you Americans?” Bernal asked.
Yes, but she thought she explained at the police station that she was going ahead of Leon.
“He’s on his way with backup, and I plan to meet him and the two officers at the gate,” Eloise explained.
There was no more she planned to say about it. Opening the passenger side door, she got out of the unmarked car and leaned her head in.
“Gracias (thank you), señor (mister)."
“Estar seguro (be safe),” Bernal uttered in reply.
Eloise grinned and shut the door, then retrieved her black grab bag from the backseat. It had everything she needed for the mission in it: gel patches, adrenaline shots, two rolls of gauze, first aid spray, and a sewing kit. Sliding the straps over her shoulders, she adjusted her tactical vest and walked over to the left side of the car where the path was located.
The forest was dark and eerie, but Eloise ignored the ominous feeling she got and hesitantly walked passed the tree line. The temperature instantly dropped a few degrees. She put some distance between her and the unmarked car, enough to see it, and retrieved her phone from her pocket, making a quick video call to her commanding officer.
The said man answered on the second ring, appearing in a dark room. The sunglasses on his face were illuminated by a computer screen in front of him; its contents Eloise could not make out.
“Miss Warren,” Albert Wesker greeted her.
“I’ve arrived in the forest outside the village,” Eloise declared.
Wesker hummed.
“Promptly I assume.”
“As promptly as possible. My cover is already being looked into, I imagine,” Eloise uttered bitterly.
She caught Bernal watching her through the window and waved at him before walking down the path towards the village gate, according to the extensive map Wesker quickly loaded into her phone. He must have been looking for her with the satellite.
“As long as your father does as he is ordered to then you can rest assured that all things will go according to plan,” Wesker mentioned.
Eloise took an uneasy breath. She hoped he was as on board as she was. The consequences were too great a risk.
“It shouldn’t be too hard for the US Secretary of Defense.”
“So long as he remembers that his son – your brother – is in jeopardy,” Wesker stated.
It turned her stomach how easily he could say this. Regardless, he was reminding her to be a good dog and do her part as well.
“My father knows the consequences. As do I,” Eloise retorted, sharp as a whip.
Wesker grinned.
“Proceed down to the village gate. The agent I sent will meet you at the safehouse marked on your map.”
Eloise nodded in understanding.
“But remember, her goal may be the same as yours; to retrieve a sample of the Dominant Plagas, but she is not to be trusted. Entertain the STRATCOM agent, but do not let her make off with that sample,” Wesker ordered.
“I understand,” Eloise uttered.
Once she confirmed, Wesker ended the video call. Eloise retrieved one of her Smith and Wesson M&Ps from its holster and made sure it was loaded. But as soon as she took a step, her phone vibrated with an upcoming message. Checking it, her breath caught in her throat.
It was a short video of her brother Ansel, albeit older than she remembered. It had been a few years. He was submerged in a clear tank of water with tubs and a breathing mask attached to his body; the steady sound of his heartbeat on the monitor brought angry tears to Eloise’s eyes.
How dare he. Wesker was an egotistical bitch. There was no need to show her whatever evil thing he was doing to Ansel. She hoped so long as she obeyed that Wesker would hurt him.
Eloise shoved the phone into her pocket and held her gun close as she cautiously walked towards the village gate. She continued along the path until she noticed another guidepost beside the road, or what appeared to be one. This marker was crudely made; the wood was stained in red and decorated with human skulls; a warning perhaps. Eloise grimaced and yanked her checkered scarf up over her mouth and nose. The locals were not friendly, she reckoned.
The path eventually took led her to an old and decrepit house, but she ignored it, knowing neither of her targets was inside.
Cutting around the side through the woods since the path was blocked, she hurried to the back of the house, having to navigate around piles of trash, then continued, crossing a wooden bridge that had her stomach in knots; dried blood stains were splattered across the rotting wood.
A few minutes in and already I hate this place.
As she walked on, she noticed the naked trees seemed to close in on her; their branches reached down as if they were trying to yank her from the path and consume her. Not to mention an eerie fog had begun to settle in, making the forest seem much darker. Eloise groaned and kept walking until she spotted a broken structure that Wesker had marked on the map; the safe house.
What's so safe about it?
Eloise turned up her eyes and walked inside, seeing a vintage typewriter on the table. But where was the agent? She reached into her pocket for her phone to confirm the location but a loud and distant pop shook the trees.
What was that? An explosion.
Eloise widened her eyes and rushed outside. Could Leon or Bernal have been hurt? She opted to backtrack, but someone pressed the barrel of a gun against her back.
Her body tensed up in response.
“Raise your hands and put the gun on the ground,” a calm feminine voice ordered.
Eloise didn’t know who the woman was, but she knew that she could not have been from the area, or else she already would have been dead. Perhaps she was the agent Wesker told her about. Raising her hands slowly, she leaned down and put her gun on the ground, but as she was leaning back up, Eloise quickly turned, stepping in and under her arm. She tore the weapon from her hand, but the woman quickly recovered and grabbed Eloise’s arm at the wrist, turning the gun away from her.
“I heard you were well-trained,” she mentioned with a grin.
Eloise noted that she was rather beautiful. She had short black hair that framed her face and wore a red wool turtleneck dress. Her grip was nothing to scoff at considering her size. She too was well-trained.
“Four years in the army,” Eloise retorted.
She let go of the gun and swung her left fist at the woman in red, but she in return blocked with her right arm. Throwing a right hook just as soon, Eloise groaned as the woman evaded and slid beneath her arm, yanking her close to catch her in a headlock. Eloise used her momentum against her and swung to the side, tossing the woman off and away from her.
Yanking her other gun from its holster, the woman in red brought up her hands.
“Are we not allies?” She asked.
Eloise curled up her nose.
“I thought so until you pulled a gun on me.”
“Just as a precaution,” the woman said with a grin. “You can never be too sure.”
No kidding.
Eloise holstered her gun and leaned down to retrieve her other S&W, then handed the agent back her own.
“Wesker didn’t give me your name,” Eloise brought up.
“It’s Ada, and I already know who you are,” she stated.
Of course, she did.
“Then there is no––”
Before Eloise could finish her sentence, Ada walked forward and put her hand over her mouth, hushing her. Eloise was confused, but once she heard footsteps approaching, she understood. Ada ushered her off the path where they hunkered down in the tall grass as two older men carrying a man in a familiar uniform came into view. Eloise widened her eyes. Was he a police officer? She wondered if Leon was OK; the officer was part of the backup he was supposed to bring.
Eloise watched the two elders carry the unconscious man past the safehouse and down the path toward the village. Once it was clear, she and Ada stood up.
“Damn, that isn’t good.”
“Is he someone you know?” Ada asked.
Eloise shook her head no.
“My partner from STRATCOM was supposed to bring help from the station, but I guess something must have happened.”
Was her mission already compromised? What was she going to do now?
Hearing a gunshot, she wondered if one of them was alive. Perhaps her partner.
“Looks like the powers that be know that your partner is here,” Ada uttered with a sigh. “He has never been the subtle type.”
Eloise raised a brow.
“Do you know Leon?”
“We’re old friends,” Ada answered.
Did Wesker know about this? Eloise took an uneasy breath.
“I was hoping not to be caught so soon.”
“I can assure you that Los Iluminados knew you were coming before you even arrived,” the woman in red mentioned.
Eloise wondered how, but she reckoned it didn’t necessarily matter now.
“Do you have a location on Dr. Sera?” She asked.
“At the moment no,” Ada answered. “Leave him to me. Once I find him and get the sample, I’ll let you know. Your priorities are elsewhere.”
She had a point.
It would have been easier if Eloise had not been assigned to the retrieval mission, but since she was, she had to maintain her cover. How she was going to slip Leon, in the end, was still in the air, however.
Another gunshot echoed across the forest, sounding nearby. Eloise shook her head in annoyance and peered over to Ada to notice that she was gone. In her place, hanging from a nail was an earpiece. She grabbed it with a grunt and placed it in her ear.
“Real cute,” she uttered as she pressed the talk button.
Ada didn’t respond.
“And now she’s slipped me.”
Eloise pinched the bridge of her nose, then took off in the direction of the gunshots. She hoped that Leon was easier to deal with. So far, both of them were becoming an annoyance.
