Fixing Windows 11 - A Masterpost
Windows 11 is absolute crap for a good bunch of stuff so yeah, have a masterpost with most of the things I've found around to fix it haha (they're not all here because I did stuff around and I don't remember what)
Stopping W11 from making you create an account/setting up your computer without internet (with a way to create gpedit.msc if your version doesn't have it)
Fixing the Taskbar (in case you also don't like the grouped Battery/internet/sound or the way the windows look)(there's more to it, check the settings)
How to move the volume and luminosity pop ups (so you can finally see those sweet sweet subtitles)
In case ModernFlyouts doesn't automatically start up, possible solution
Fixing the Start Menu
How to show all options right away
How to remove Copilot if you have it (I don't, but it might be because I'm in Europe??)
Apparently Copilot is being forced on people so hummm
Other stuff not specifically related to the shit W11 did
Changing the size of the scroll bars
How to fully remove Cortana
Website with tools to fix W10 and W11

what was your first computer?
Oh I love this question - thank you for asking!! I hope that I see more questions like this around our beautiful old-techie tumblr corner!! Just for reference - I'm 24 so my computers aren't too "vintage!"
The first computer I remember looks a little like this one: I remember the huge chunky monitor and the way the button pushed in on it, and the stackable IBM pc underneath. I remember the speakers' feel and how they were always just a little dusty. And y'all KNOW I was taking out that mouse ball and gently touching and playing with it!
In fact, just another aside - sitting at this computer and playing a Blue's Clues game was my very first memory. I must have been 3 or 4.
Tumblr media
The next guy shown is what looks like the tower of my first pc - one that my dad built for me on the dining room table (which might be one of my biggest regrets - to not have had him teach and show me what he was doing at the time!). It got put into my room at the age of... 10-12? Pretty young! And boy, did I see many things on the Internet I shouldn't have lol.
Sorry I don't have too much more information about these!
Tumblr media
The next guy shown is the Lenovo g780 and it was my first laptop! I got it in the 8th grade. It was a weird brown color and it never left my bedroom, or my lap for that matter lol. It was the machine that I started obsessively using tumblr on as well!! It was almost 18 inches, so it was hard to lug around lol. I got to help revive it a couple times - replacing the fan and the screen at one point or another.
Tumblr media
Just for funzies! This is my current battlestation: the Dell G15. I personally think that Dell is super underrated in the computer market - they're known more for officeware of course, but they own Alienware! My laptop has the same hardware as the newest gaming rigs (Don't wanna brag, but I've got a G3800! in this baby!) and it wasn't nearly as expensive thankfully. I use it to program and play lots of games on the daily (although I've been using my PS5 a lot lately!!). I haven't seen seen a game that runs poorly on it... yet.
Tumblr media
And also!! Under my desk currently lies a 2002 iMac G4 - known colloquially as the Sunflower computer! It's my BFF's childhood computer - she and her family lovingly gave it to me to revive! It's one of those many ongoing projects in my life that I wish I had more time for... I need to replace the hard drive and give it a super full cleanout. The neck on the monitor is also broken and could use a repair. One interesting thing about this computer is that Apple was getting real creative with their designs around this time (which... I wish desktop design was still super innovative :'( ) and the hardware is all jammed in this weird semi-globe container? So it's unlike any other computer interior and... how exciting is that to dig around in and restore?!
Tumblr media
Thank you to anyone that's read through all of this!

Started up my laptop last night and despite not using it for two days it was so hot that the aluminum keys literally burned my fingers slightly from leaving them on the keyboard for a few seconds. Went Whoa!!! And then realized the bottom of the chassis is bulging outward ((: opened it up and sure enough, growing a nice little spicy pillow* in there!!
At this point the laptop is 4 years old, and the nearest reputable place charges $200 to replace batteries in Lenovos lol…..which at this point is more than half the value of the laptop itself (it’s selling refurbished on eBay for ~$300)
I’ve absolutely adored this lil computer for every second that I’ve had it - its touch screen tablet mode became my go-to for drawing, I took it everywhere to write on, and it’s how I’ve watched most movies and shows for the past 4 years. I’m saddened to have to replace it. But I don’t fuck around with swollen lithium ion batteries, and it’s really not worth throwing $200 at a laptop this “old” (by modern tech standards).
So I guess now I gotta buy another fucking laptop 😞
*The battery is beginning to swell

Say ''hello'' to me *crying*
My dear pc I've spent 3000€ on is finally back in business.
My last screenshots from sso are from May 10th. This is from 04.092022 1.45
My pc hasnt worked before today since May 10th 2022. One day it turned off (and other things happened) and it showed blank when turned on). I sent it off for repair. It would've cost me 1124€ + shipping 60€ for them to fix it. So I only paid the 60€ and I was told my graphics card needs replacing.
So I bought a new rtx 3070 ti (I had a regular rtx 3070) and a new power supply (760W) because the 550W provided with the old pc didn't suffice for the lenovo custom-made rtx 3070.
And so I changed the parts. Carefully. And tested it blind. PC turned on. Success...
Except it wasn't. I plugged in to my monitor. And blank. Nothing. No ROG start-up screen that says ''press del or f12 to enter bios''. Nothing.
Suffice to say I gave up. I let it go. I did everything right. I had dissected my pc and put it back together around 4 times at that time. I knew what I was doing. Everything was plugged in correctly.
This was June 19th 2022.
Fast-forward to now.
I'm playing SSO on my laptop. Bummed I can't use my 32 inch monitor, my proper pc with Reshade looking like this picture, while I'm going about my business and quests and races. Not using my brand-new speakers that cost me another 150€.
So I decide to plug in my old pc. My new pc doesn't work... So the old one does, right?
It didn't. Same problem. Blank. Nothing.
So I decide to plug it in my tv. I see that I can't use the HDMI port. It doesn't show anything. Lucky I'm me, I have another 3 HDMI cables on hand. So I pick the closest one and plug it in. It works. It shows up on my TV menu. And it shows the pc booting up.
The pc didn't work of course, I took the hard drive from it which I'm using for my windows 11 on this computer. But it shows something. So I plug in my new PC.
And it works. It boots up. It takes me to the Windows sign in screen with my dear Shenhe as my background picture. And I go in. And it's black. I restart, it installs some windows updates. And after restart it logs me in. I'm in. I see my PC.
Then my case tells me it doesn't detect my graphics card. My device manager says Microsoft Basic Display Adapter on my video adapter space. I google. I find an article that says this is normal on new graphics cards without updated drivers. Geforce Experience has drivers to install. It wouldn't install new drivers if it didn't recognize the graphics card, right?
And lo and behold. I log on to SSO. And I get my sweet sweet Reshade presets. I restart the pc. I plug in my monitor. And this is working. I'm sitting on my living room floor, writing this, because I don't dare get up and take my setup to my office space in case this stops working. I'll do it after and inform you if it works.

More life updates
My parents’ home location was downgraded from level 3 to level 2 apparently and now they get to go home! Yay!
Fire is still 0% contained apparently but it’s also not spreading too much (or hasn’t been) because they’ve gotten some rain
Very grateful everybody is safe.
My laptop decided to break today. I opened it up and the left hinge didn’t want to open while the right did and it broke part of the screen and now I can’t open/close it and the touch screen part doesn’t work. So it is no longer functional as a laptop.
This happened 10 min before I had to leave for class
Since we have exams on our laptops every Monday and I live in Nowhere, USA, I couldn’t order the same laptop to replace it since it wouldn’t get in on time.
I had to go into Costco and look at what was available there and essentially downgrade to a smaller laptop that I don’t like as much. There weren’t many options available that fit the requirements for school and I only like Lenovos and the finger print biometric thing was VERY important to me… technically I’m not sure if it’s okay because the processor isn’t on the “approved” list (Mac or Intel) but it’s not on the “unapproved” list (ARM). It’s AMD Ryzen. The exam software is what is picky and it installed okay, so I’m hopeful it’ll work on Monday.
I am trying to get used to the new laptop. I am very grateful that I have enough privilege that I can go to a store in person and find something that will likely meet my needs. I just… don’t like change and the size is a huge change.
Diplopia has been bad all day today. Which ofc we learned about diplopia in myasthenia gravis earlier so today I was reminded about how I get diplopia a lot and remember having it since I was a child, but the optometrist told me it was normal. So that also triggers me to remember how my head is always tilted a little to the right because it hurts to see when my head is straight… and long story short I’m now worried I have a fourth cranial nerve palsy.

I heard you were having some troubles with devices breaking for you and so you’ve opted to doing commissions? I’m unable to pay for a big commission but I was wondering if you have a patron so I could support you there? I’d love to be able to support you but as I said I currently am unable to pay a large sum for a commission sadly, though I would love to one day as your art is magnificent. Thank you and have a nice day! <3
Oh wow that's like... so damn adorable and sweet ?? I don't have a patreon sadly tho I have a ko-fi ( https://ko-fi.com/tsukioreo ) but it's just for donation so please don't worry about it, my laptop and phone are not related to my art, not completely so I feel kinda not legitimate to ask help about it...
Tumblr media
Tho I'm taking the opportunity to rant about my current situation cause it's just blowing my mind and I am so super exhausted on a daily because of it.
I have (well had now yeay -_-) a lenovo legion laptop which was my everyday useful, very good for staying at anytime with my rabbit in the living room and playing some games here and there, photoshop, the basic. Tho I had a crack on the top lid and because of that I was scared to close it and decided to repair that issue since the cracked appeared to get bigger. I gave it to a repair shop ( just remindind that I live in Japan so shops with english speakers is a bit rare, I speak japanese tho for some technical issues I prefer to be able to understand everything fully and since no one speaks french, english is somewhat possible to find ). They gave me a diagnostic with so many problems in the laptop : a fan which was broken, the lid, another crack in a screw hole or whatever that was and the hinges which had to be changed. The shop has good review so I didn't question it and I got pics so yeah alright I accept to repair it for 55.000yen, which is a lot of money considering it's more than half of my salary. But I want to repair it, my mom gifted me this computer and I love it. After I got a call from the shop that the replacement pieces have arrived I gave the machine and I was told that I could get it back the same day or the next. I didn't have any news the next day so I decided to call and on the phone "Oh yeah, thanks for calling, well bad news your computer isn't responding anymore" well great my computer worked absolutely fine, never had any issue. They said that probably the fan they installed fried my motherboard so it's just... dead. The repair service killed my laptop.
To make it even better, the day I gave my laptop to them, the same night I noticed my phone back camera had ceased to work... How great right. In Japan, it's like COMMON to use QR code to order at the restaurant etc so I absolutely need it. It's an iPhone, and it's not under warranty so I can't go through Apple or it'll cost way too much in here, I decided to go to an electronic shop, with again a lot of good reviews, to handle it. They don't speak english but we understand each other well enough. I was told that the new camera would arrive in 2-3 days and here I am a week later still waiting. They also scared me by saying that there is a risk the screen would crack while opening the device and if it happens I'd have to pay extra 30.000yen for the new screen, dude isn't it your job to repair things without breaking those further ?? What is going on, is it so normal what the hell.
Tumblr media
So for the laptop we decided that they would order a computer (used one) to replace mine, almost identical except for the CPU, and that they'd refund me 10.000yen of the price I paid, which isn't so bad and actually I don't have much choice. But still they need so many days, it's been like what, 4 days the other laptop got delivered and I got a call about the keyboard cause japanese keyboards don't have as much symbols as french ones and I need those to write in my language.. And that'd take another 2 days to just change the keyboard.
I am just soooo tired of the situation, especially cause I am finally going to vacation with my SO next week and they don't make the problem they created a priority... and the phone shop keeping to say everytime I ask for news on the phone "yeah it will arrive tomorrow or the day after tomorrow" for a week now...
So sorry for the rant but I am so damn stressed, it has nothing to do with you guys and I am so happy to have your support, honestly it's my only fuel right now. I haven't drawn for a week and getting that commission helped a lot, tho messages and love will always remain the best.
I appreciate all of you, thank you always
❤️

anyways now that i have a charger for my laptop again i can compare my laptops:
Gaming Laptop (AKA File Destroyer 2020)
Make: CyberPowerPC (of some custom variety idk anything about hardware)
Pros:
Can work without needing constant fans
Doesn't overheat
Runs video games well
Larger screen
6 USB ports
Cons:
Display has a weird almost yellow bias with more muted colors. Duolingo's icon, for example, looked like a slightly muted olive green (as opposed to the bright lime green on my other laptop)
Heavy
Loudest keyboard
Large screen = text looks too small
The most it would update was to a version a bit behind the current windows 10
Doesn't automatically connect to wifi, every boot up or restart I need to manually enable wifi via the hardware (physical button combination)
Battery is only 70% health so it doesn't hold charges much
Did destroy and eat an entire epoch of my art when the motherboard melted
CONCLUSION: Good for gaming and thats its only good quality, but being able to game without fans making a cacophony is compelling
Flexible Laptop
Make: Lenovo Yoga C940
Pros:
Better color display
Up to date windows
Fingerprint ID to unlock quickly
Touch screen
Can fold into a tablet
Built-in webcam cover
I've dropped it twice and Allah(SWT) has gracefully saved it from shattering, even when i dropped it face down on concrete while getting of a greyhound bus
Light, thin, and easy to move around
Cons:
Easily overheats
Keys not replacable
Charger has broken and needed replacement 2 times
1 USB port
Can't run games without draining most of the battery in like 30 minutes
Has had a handful of technical issues
CONCLUSION: Struggles to game but works fairly well for most purposes
