HOOO BOY AM I MAD
So I watched a movie today with my parents and I- HHHHHHH. (Reminder my parents are strict conservative and even they fucking despised this shit)
The movie I watched is called Laxmi Bomb, it is a Bollywood movie about Asif played by Akshay Kumar who goes to his Wife Rashmi’s (Kiara Advani) parent’s house 3 years after their marriage, (they haven’t gone back because Rashmi’s dad doesn’t believe in inter-faith marriages and therefore cut ties with his daughter). But when they go back Asif gets possessed by the spirit of a trans women who wants vengeance for her family.
AND I HAVE NEVER SEEN SUCH BALANT TRANSPHOBIA IN A MOVIE THAT IS SUPPOSED TO ADVOCATE FOR TRANS RIGHTS.
First off all trans women in this movie were portrayed by cis men ALL of them. Then there is horribly stereotypical portrayal of angry trans women of color. They showed the main character Laxmi to be extremely stereotypical, she talked in a extremely mannerless way enforcing the negative stereotype of how Indian trans women are rude and live on the streets and are harassers and cat-callers.
And then there is deeply engraved heteronormativity, in which if a man puts turmeric or face masks on his face it’s bad and he should not be allowed to wear bangles cause those symbolize traits of weak feminism and some other bullshit.
It also portrays trans women to be violent and people who love to watch people get murdered.
Akshay Kumar, sir you fucking suck and you think you’re amazing at telling stories of the ones oppressed or issue stories well you were wrong fuck you and fuck this movie, you have done absolutely nothing for the Indian trans community and BOY I AM GONNA KILL A BITCH.
