Falleri’s AU Workshop: Lore Headcanon

So I am basically gonna post all the headcanons I acquire and any other fan theories I see from other fanfics that I honestly believe are so good it’s a shame they are not canon. I’ll start with my most favorite of them all, originating from Imyoshi’s Silver

That said, I will add my own spin to it:

If the soul is made of both light and darkness, and if Aura is the light of one’s soul; then what is its darkness? The answer, is Lore; a leftover remnant from First Humanity’s Magic. It is indeed Magic yet it is not; for Lore comes from one’s soul rather than from a divine source.

With Lore, the user can indeed use Magic, but it is limited to the user’s affinities instead of Magic’s nigh-limitless capabilities and applications. However, Lore does have an advantage compared to Magic, and that, or rather those, are Principles. Principles are to Lore what Semblances are to Aura, special abilities unique to the individual; that may either further support the user’s Semblance and vice-versa, or a completely unrelated ability entirely. An well-known example of Lore, would be the power of the Silver-Eyes, or as it could also be called, Lightforce (AKA: the Principle of the God of Light). Again, Lore is not Magic, yet at the same time, it is. Another good example would be the Grimm-Blood themselves (be it by birth, or by artificial means), since their transformation uses Lore instead of Aura; people think that upon transforming into their Grimm form the user forfeits the use of their Aura. The truth however, is that normally, people have to “switch” between Aura and Lore; with Grimm powers having an overwhelming inclination for Lore. Those who master both their Aura and Lore to such an extent that they can fuse both into one single energy (let’s call it Od) can completely bypass this limitation. One would think that those who discover how to use their Lore would not need Dust, but that could not be further from the truth. Again, Lore grants the ability to use Magic, but only the Magic you have an affinity for; otherwise, you cannot access that Magic (Elemental, or otherwise); that is where Elemental Dust comes in, to either supply for the lack or to help preserve Lore. Those who have absolutely mastered their souls and themselves can fuse both their Aura and their Lore into one single energy (Od); the upside is that the user can use both Aura and Lore capabilities without the need to “switch”, so to speak and their energy reserves are now equal to their combined total, and both their Semblances and their Principles are now stronger as a side-benefit. However because they are now one single energy source, the user should be more careful in how they spend their energy; since once they run out they are out of options. Lore Affinities are basically classified as: Nature Magic --Fire Magic --Water Magic --Wind Magic --Earth Magic Light Magic --Holy Magic --Time Magic --Creation Magic Darkness Magic --Dark Magic --Space Magic --Destruction Magic (Lightning, Ice and Gravity are combination elements, and thus, require at least a Major Affinity in their component elements: Fire and Wind for Lightning, Water and Wind for Ice, and Earth and Lightning for Gravity. Semblances and Principles usually denote perfectly the user’s Lore affinities.)

Then there was the time Cloak & Dagger had their powers switched due to Mister Negative. I'll need to look back & see how that was reversed but it was an interesting development for them for awhile.

Right, where Tyron was wielding the Lightforce energies and Tandy had the Darkforce energies. It was a fine enough experiment but I definitely prefer them in their original fashion.

Potential antagonists for Cloak and Dagger

Brigid “Mayhem” O’Reilly

The original title of this post was “Potential villains...”, but the word villain doesn’t really fit O’Reilly. From what I understand in the comics, she is more like a supernatural Frank Castle. I imagine her arc in season 2 will be much like Frank’s arc in season 2 of Daredevil, a clash of ideals rather than goals. Her power-set is exuding a toxic gas, so the VFX team will probably just take Cloak’s effects and make it green.

Mister Negative/Ivan Hess

In the comics, Mister Negative got his powers from the same source that Cloak and Dagger did, only he has powers from both the darkforce and the lightforce. Gaining powers also gave him dissociative identity disorder, so Mister Negative is the villainous alter ego of the kind-hearted Martin Li. Other people in the fandom have already said that they might adapt this villain to be the alter ego of Ivan Hess, and I think that is a fantastic idea. Fun things about Mister Negative: he has switched Cloak and Dagger’s powers (which would make for a very entertaining episode), and he sometimes clashes with other villains, which could lead to a Villain/Hero team-up, aka one of my favorite tropes.

Lord of Light/Nathan Bowen

In the comics Nathan Bowen doesn’t die, he divorces his wife, leaves his family, goes to India, and uses his light powers to become a cult leader. Honestly, Nathan coming back to life and becoming an evil Messianic figure is too good of an opportunity to pass up. Please do this showrunners.

Mister Jip

This character has already shown up in that one guy’s fear in episode 6. Mister Jip was the first student of the Ancient One, and the first student to go rogue. He possesses the bodies of the evil to prolong his life (Peter Scarborough seems like a good candidate). The only problem is that the bodies start to decay after this happens. The consequence is that Mister Jip looks like a misshapen monster. He has two lackeys, Night and Day, that have similar powers to Cloak and Dagger. His goal is to possess Cloak, and when that fails, seek revenge.

Roxxon

I doubt this company will stop being evil anytime soon.

Maggia

They are the first villains Cloak and Dagger faced in the comics. Interestingly, their only appearance in the MCU so far is in Agent Carter season 2. They were gangsters that helped Whitney Frost acquire more Darkforce. So there is built in history the show can pull from as well as the comics stuff.

Street-level Criminals

Cloak and Dagger are known in the comics for fighting primarily ordinary criminals rather than costumed super-villains, Cloak and Dagger were originally created to fight the war on drugs. Ironically, I can see the show going in the opposite direction now that Netflix is known for street-level crime fighting. Although they certainly didn’t stray from real life villains in season 1.

Heroes and Villains of other shows

Cloak and Dagger are also known in the comics for being go-to guest star cameos. The show has already proven that they are not afraid to do shout outs to the other parts of the MCU, and I hope that continues. It is unlikely that the movies will acknowledge the tv shows until after they get cancelled, if then. The least the tv universe can do is stick together.

This week I decided to do a build for Yami Yugi or Atem from the Duel Monsters run of the Yugioh anime. This build is as anime accurate as I can get it, combining some of the characters best cards and strategies.    This deck is made using cards Atem has actually been seen using or has had listed in deck profiles. Essentially it’s focused on getting Dark Magician to the field or a god card. Your DM pieces are Dark Magician Girl/Sage’s Stone, dark magic curtain, dark magic veil, dark renewal or Skilled Dark Magician. All of those cards are fairly solid, giving you quick ways to get a 2500 beater on board. It’s when you move over to the gods that things get a bit shaky.

 First off all three god cards are in the deck (pretty obvious since this is a deck based around Atem’s cards), each requiring three tributes each which means you’re not going to be summoning more than one or two in a duel. The shakiest would be the poker knights since they require such a specific order to use the special summoning ability. You have to have Queen’s Knight already on the field when you play King’s Knight which will then let you special summon Jack’s Knight from the deck. So you have to play the other two and not draw Jack in order to activate King’s special ability to give you three tributes. Next up would be the Magnet Warrior combo which is a lot better considering you can play them in any order and combine them to get a stronger monster, then just uncombined them to get your three tributes back.

 Typically you’ll use Obelisk since he’s kind of an all-purpose for this deck. Slifer would be a decent option as well but since his power relies on having cards in your hand you might want to consider opting for a strategy of limiting what you use in your hand. Ra is kind of hard to use unless you can summon the beast early on when you still have high life points and shoot for game.

 Alternatively, you could switch out the god cards for any of the cards in the side deck. Such as Gaia and Curse of Dragoon. However Gaia the Dragon Champion only has 2600 ATK points. Alternatively, Dark Magician is way easier to summon and only has 100 points less than Dragon Champion, also with the way deck is set up Dark Magician girl can easily match Dragon Champion with DM and Magician of Black Chaos in the grave. Dark Magician can also can a hefty attack boost with Mage Power since there are a few quick plays and all the traps are offensive you’ll be setting a lot. If you’re in a role-play and you have to tag duel with a Joey then you could toss in Summoned Skull for a B. Skull Dragon play. Or bring in BLS to summon Dragon Master Knight if you’re tag-teaming with a Kaiba role-player.  I have MBC in there to add to Dark Magician Girl’s ATK. You could also swap out the Celtic Guards or Magician’s Valkyria, Celtic Guard of Noble Arms allows for a couple of draws depending on how many Celtic Guardian monsters on your side of the field. Magician’s Valkyria could easily be swapped out for Electromagnetic Turtle and that’s probably the better option I just like Valkyria.

Multiply merely allows for a wall, with these slower role-play style decks your opponent is typically not going to clear your field in one turn so it will buy you some time to pull better plays to your hand. The spell cards are fairly basic and most of them work to bring out Dark Magician or a dark spellcaster. While the trap cards are counters, like Spellbinding Circle or Mirror Force.

The extra deck is really lackluster if I’m being honest, with a few fusions the deck can actually create on its own Amulet Dragon and Dark Magician Girl the Dragon Knight being your main fusions by means of the Eye of Timaeus, Dark Paladin is also a decent option but you’re only really going to summon it if you’re facing someone who’s playing a bunch of dragons. Chimera isn’t a bad option either if you’ve got the materials, and if it dies then you can get one of the two beasts fused back allowing you to do something else.

 To conclude that’s really about it. It’s a bricky deck that’s not going to win you a lot of games unless you’re using it in a role-play where everyone else is playing at a slow speed as well. Of course, if you have any suggestions or things to add feel free to comment. I may come back and improve upon this at a later point, and make it better.
