Lula and Georgieva hold a “good conversation”
Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva Monday suggested International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva should move on with the reform of the credit agency, among other issues they discussed during their “good conversation” in Brasilia where they also reviewed “social inclusion” and the “Poverty in the world” project.
Lula said the IMF needs to be “more representative of today's world” and “capable of helping countries” that require financial support “under better conditions.” Also present at Monday's gathering were Brazil's Finance Minister Fernando Haddad, and former President and current President of the BRICS Bank, Dilma Rousseff.

European governments may “regret” supporting angered farmers – IMF chief
International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva argued on Thursday that European governments must resist calls for more financial support for the protesting farming sector across the continent, otherwise they might regret it, France 24 reported.
Farmers from Germany, France, Italy, Belgium and Greece have staged weeks of protests aimed at getting some concessions from European leaders ahead of upcoming elections.
You see the farmers protesting. On the human level I understand they face more hardship and it is not easy to do the job they do. But if that sentiment continues and it pushes governments in a corner in which they find themselves unable to do what is necessary for (the) strength of the economies, then there may be days to regret.
Thousands of farmers from across Europe protested in Brussels on Thursday during a meeting between French President Emmanuel Macron and European Commission chief Ursula von der Leyen regarding “the future of European agriculture.”

IMF: AI could replace 40% of jobs
Artificial intelligence (AI) could affect nearly 40 per cent of all jobs, according to the latest analysis by the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
The IMF notes that developed countries are more likely to be affected by AI than developing and low-income ones. However, AI is likely to complement human labour rather than completely replace certain jobs.
IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva warns that “in most scenarios, AI will likely worsen overall inequality,” and policymakers should address this “troubling trend” to avoid increasing social tensions.
In advanced economies, AI could affect about 60 per cent of jobs, and in half of those cases, workers could increase their productivity through AI integration, the IMF report wrote.
However, AI could also replace essential human tasks, potentially reducing demand for labour. This in turn could affect wages and even remove certain jobs.
