His family might have been pushing for the priesthood, but Dr. Ken Haskin found his calling to serve elsewhere—including the court system, the non-profit world and in public service. “Those diverse experiences across the public sector help me understand and tackle the complex challenges facing American cities today,” he says. After graduating high school in Arkansas, he earned a bachelor’s from Henderson State University and a master’s in public administration from Webster University, and now has more than 25 years of experience in public management as a senior-level administrator. Today, he serves as city manager of Cape Girardeau, but he has also served as economic-development director and negotiated with many companies who either located or decided to remain within the city. In addition, he’s focused on staying responsible with the public funds, and recently renegotiated the Public Safety Pension Plan, saving $10 million over the life of the plan. He also balanced the city budget and is implementing a strategic, conservative spending plan to boost economic growth. He said he sees the city as the perfect setting for these kinds of efforts. “Cape is a city of opportunity for everyone, which results in better jobs, better health outcomes, and increased safety,” he says. “Cities our size are for the people who want it all—big city amenities but with the small town feel and convenience. … If we keep focused on a strong economy where everyone has the opportunity to thrive, then life is good in Cape Girardeau.”

No need to prepare your Draft, whether you're a beginner or experienced player, just use this list and you'll be set. In Standard Scoring Leagues you don't get points for receptions, so you will have to prioritize touchdown-heavy players. In this format, running backs are going to be a priority, so they have a slight edge over wide receiver. However, a receiving running back is also important because you have double the chance to score. If your league allows it, I would start three RBs every week. These will get you the most touchdowns besides a quarterback. So, remember to do after those red zone threats. In the end, they will make the difference when it comes to Standard Scoring formats. I finally had the chance to see Barry Jenkins' adaptation of If Beale Street Could Talk yesterday and loved it. I'm both a film buff and an avid reader so I'm subject to the irritating snobbery of both where screen adaptations of books are concerned, and this film is the rarest kind of experience for someone like me: the unique satisfaction of seeing a gorgeous and very faithful film adaptation of a much loved book. It got me thinking about how rare this is and when exactly I can remember experiencing that surprise and elation watching other films based on books I liked. The following list is more reflective of my own tastes than any absolute measure of greatness but anyway, here goes.
John LeCarre', The Spy Who Came in from the Cold (1963)
Martin Ritt, The Spy Who Came in from the Cold (1965)
Tumblr media
My personal all-time favorite (although now perhaps my second favorite, after If Beale Street Could Talk) is this relatively little-known gem starring the great Richard Burton. I loved the novel and read it twice, once when I was around 10 or 11 years old and again a few years ago. It's a tremendous espionage novel and while it doesn't represent LeCarre's style at its most refined (see the next entry for that), it's a great introduction to what makes his books so engaging. They're unflinchingly realistic and pay very close attention to the actual tradecraft of spying, which you would expect from a writer who was a British secret agent in real life. The film manages to capture so much of the flavor of the source material, and a great performance by Burton translates the internal thought processes of the main character in all their subtlety. In my favorite scene, Burton's character sees a news article about himself in a London paper and realizes his cover's blown and he's completely screwed. You can see all of that registering on Burton's face in a single shot.
John LeCarre', Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy (1974)
John Irvin, Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy (BBC TV miniseries, 1979)
Tumblr media
Some writers are luckier than others. I was completely absorbed by LeCarre's rich and detailed account of British intelligence officer George Smiley's hunt for a highly placed Soviet mole within MI6. I just couldn't put it down and I was TERRIBLY disappointed by the 2011 Tomas Alfredson adaptation, which conveyed none of the nuance or atmosphere of the book. It was a crass and irritating film that wasted several good performances, including an excellent turn by Gary Oldman as Smiley. I stayed away from the miniseries for years before my wife and I began it one morning, and we were so drawn in that we binged all seven episodes the same day. I could not have been happier with it. John Irvin's subdued and skilled direction allowed the performances to take the fore and moved the plot—the most important element in any LeCarre' book—accurately and addictively. Alec Guinness totally inhabited the role of Smiley, to the point that I'm now incapable of thinking of anyone else's face when I read LeCarre's other novels.
Kurt Vonnegut, Slaughterhouse Five (1969)
George Roy Hill, Slaughterhouse Five (1972)
Tumblr media
Two things surprised me when my mom told me that she'd seen this movie and that it was good: 1) it exists; and 2) it’s a good movie despite being based on an unfilmable novel. Vonnegut's work hasn't had the best of experiences on the silver screen. The 1990s produced two highly regrettable adaptations of great Vonnegut novels: the awful Nick Nolte Mother Night directed with zero flair by ham-and-egger Keith Gordon and the risible Breakfast of Champions starring Bruce Willis and directed by some guy named Alan Rudolph. Given that both of those books had vastly simpler narrative structures than Slaughterhouse Five, the fact that George Roy Hill's film is effective is really a testament to his skill. With the nearly unknown Michael Sacks anchoring a cast of other 1970s no-names and small-timers, this is a surprisingly affecting and satisfying film for a fan of the novel. Its odd time shifts and alien abductions/interactions are done very well, albeit without nudity. It's not considered a career highlight for Hill but it really should be. He stuck the film treatment equivalent of the triple axel.
George Orwell, 1984 (1949)
Michael Radford, 1984 (1984)
Tumblr media
1984 is another novel that I read first in childhood and then again much later, in around 2004, at the height of the war in Iraq when my hatred of the US government under George W. Bush was at its apex. I remember not being able to connect with the experience of Winston Smith on the first reading, when I took the book to be a pretty straight-up criticism of the Soviet Union (still in existence at the time…). The paranoia and dystopian insanity of the Bush era, with its baleful exhortations to patriotic fervor and national unity and demands for submission to an ever-expanding police state, made the second reading a surreal one. I totally identified with Smith's alienation and the book worked for me in a whole new way. I stayed away from the screen version for a long time. I just didn't see how it would be possible to render the novel faithfully in visual form when so much of it takes place inside Smith's head. Radford did a remarkable job. Oceania's oppressive visuals bring Orwell's descriptions to stunning life, and the casting could not have been better with John Hurt as Winston Smith and Richard Burton as O'Brien. The largely unsung Cyril Cusack is also great as Charrington. In a point of trivia, he also plays Richard Burton's boss in the above-mentioned Martin Ritt The Spy Who Came in from the Cold and is part of James Mason's IRA cell in Carol Reed's Odd Man Out. Great British character actor.
Honorable mentions:
James M. Cain, Double Indemnity (1943) / Billy Wilder, Double Indemnity (1944)
James M. Cain, The Postman Always Rings Twice (1934) / Tay Garrett, The Postman Always Rings Twice (1946)
James M. Cain, Mildred Pierce (1941) / Michael Curtiz, Mildred Pierce (1945) / Todd Haynes, Mildred Pierce (HBO miniseries, 2011)
Mary Shelly, Frankenstein (1818) / Kenneth Branagh, Mary Shelley's Frankenstein (1994)
H.P. Lovecraft, The Case of Charles Dexter Ward (1927) / Dan O'Bannon, The Resurrected (1991)
H.G. Wells, The Time Machine (1895) / George Pal, The Time Machine (1960) / Simon Wells and Gore Verbinski, The Time Machine (2002)
H.G. Wells, War of the Worlds (1897) / Byron Haskin, War of the Worlds (1953) / Steven Spielberg, War of the Worlds (2005)

IT HAS BEEN about a year now since my involvement with the Dozier School For Boys began taking over my world. Kicking off the whirlwind was my need to get my hands on the school’s student ledgers. I won’t rehash the entire adventure but what I will say is that it took many frustrating nights online, several emails to the Archivist, the potential of an $600+ bill to get digital copies & finally an 8 hour round trip before I’d actually have what I wanted…Well at least a quarter of what I wanted!
HAVING ABSOLUTELY NO clue what I was looking for, I spent the next several weeks trying to organize what I had. Almost immediately number of very distinct patterns began jumping out at me. The same sentencing judges over & over again, the SAME sentence length OR lack there of & a crap load of blank spaces; Specifically under the “WHEN/HOW RELEASED” columns. One would expect that any institution handling children would be required to keep detailed & accurate records of ALL of its charges, especially when it comes to their last known whereabouts BUT that would make too much sense, now wouldn’t it…
THE INFO THAT I had gotten was only from the latest volume of the ledgers & didn’t even make a dent in the number of boys that had been shoved through the doors to be reformed. I knew there were hundreds OR even thousands of names in those books. I maybe had a few hundred at the most. By now, I had gotten used to what I like to call the “Hurry Up & Stop” method of researching. Basically I’d need specific info, finally get said info ONLY to start looking it over & promptly figure out that I needed additional material OR even worse, I’d need something entirely different altogether. In this case, I had just assumed that I’d eventually be making another trip to the Archives; That is until I ended up becoming involved with Bob Straley & taking over his website…And right there on one of the site pages was a link to the detailed, handwritten notes that WHB Mr. Andrew Puel had spent hours putting together.
Mr. Andrew Puel At The State Archives…Sitting In The EXACT Same Spot That I Did When I Was There!
      NOT IT!!
WHEN I SAW that link, I was beyond thrilled! I was finally going to have something reliable to validate what I had come up with! I had spoken with Andrew at Bob Straley’s memorial service & knew that any research he had done would be the best & most accurate info that I could possibly get. When the page loaded, it definitely did NOT show what I had been hoping for; In all actuality, it showed nothing but this:
ODDLY THE INFO was missing! I started clicking on some of the other older links on the website & sure enough, there were quite a few that led to nowhere. I don’t know why it gone OR where it went, only that it’s not there. I tried not to get to aggravated, thinking that there had to be a hard copy among the thousands of documents that I have. I spent the next several weeks going through EVERY page, folder, digital file, etc. & found nothing. Bob kept everything, so to say I was puzzled that he wouldn’t have a copy of something so important was a huge understatement. I did another look through, literally taking out every piece of paper, one by one; Still nothing.
  Well Damn….
    AN EVENING IN GAINESVILLE
ON A FRIDAY in late February, I made the 3 hour trip to Gaineville. With me was a small black bag filled with what I believed to be the most important material related to the Arthur G Dozier School for Boys. I pulled up to a beautiful home, tucked back in a quiet sub division that was surrounded by forest. Standing outside was a familiar face, Mr. Bryant Middleton. The “Whitehouse Boy” greeted me with a smile & a brief hug before inviting me inside to meet his wife. Both graciously spent several hours telling their personal story of Dozier & how the WHB’s Organization was founded. They were both lovely people & I was grateful that they had been so willing to meet with me & be as open as they were. When we finally moved into the dining room to look over the things that I had brought, I began pulling things out. I yanked a folder out that had been wedged inside of my over full bag & a stack of papers fell out. The stack was stapled together & folded in half. I picked it up to see what it was & as I unfolded it, my jaw hit the floor!
OH…MY…GOD…It was a hard copy of the list of missing boys! The same list that I had just spent weeks trying to find! The stuff inside of that bag was the stuff that I pulled out & reviewed quite frequently & there’s absolutely NO way that I would missed that thick stack of ledger pages! I slid the stack across the table, explaining to Bryant why I was a bit stunned at finding them. He thought it was strange as well. I’m not going to get into the specifics of my time with the Middletons in this post, although I will say that I’m very fortunate to have met with them. They’re great people & they continue to work toward keeping the future from repeating the past.
    WHERE COULD THEY BE?
OF COURSE THERE is minimal info on the boys on this list. What is known is that most were listed as escaped but never recovered. A lot lacked permanent homes OR guardians, so there wouldn’t have been any concerned parents wondering about the whereabouts of their lost boy. It should also be noted that the last place they were seen was the Dozier School for Boys in Marianna. That leaves so many unanswered questions; Could ALL 185 boys on that list have actually successfully escaped & moved on to a better life? Even if that did happen, would it be possible that NOT 1 single child ever be heard from again? I suppose it could be possible for some BUT for All 185? I seriously have my doubts & given the history of Dozier, I’d say that’s highly unlikely. Especially considering the significant proof of other burial sites on the school’s 1200+ acres.Whether or not they continued life after Dozier OR their lives were taken at the school, they each deserve to be recognized. I’ll let them speak for themselves….

Michigan’s latest collapse against Spartans puts deserved heat back on Jim Harbaugh
The same-old narratives surrounding Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh simply are back again, and with good reason.
No. 6 Michigan held a 30-14 lead with 6:47 left in the third quarter against No. 8 Michigan State at Spartan Stadium and looked poised to take control of the Big Ten East race and maybe even give No.5 Ohio State something to think about — for real, this time.
Instead, Michigan endured a head-scratching collapse. Again.
It happened at the hands of its in-state rival in stunning fashion. Again.
MORE: How Michigan’s loss will shake up next AP poll
Now, that narrative that the Wolverines can’t win the big game after a 37-33 loss to the Spartans is back. Again.
The blame will fall on Harbaugh, who fell to 2-13 against top-10 opponents since taking over at Michigan in 2015. That first top-10 loss was against No. 7 Michigan State on the “Punt Fumble” on Oct. 10, 2015.
Saturday’s loss will not be remembered in that vein, even if it was worse in some respects. Michigan State won the biggest matchup between the teams since the 1960s. The Spartans are now 4-3 against Harbaugh and 2-0 under second-year coach Mel Tucker, who has instilled a can’t-quit-toughness in the program that isn’t all that different from the peak of the Mark Dantonio era.
Running back Kenneth Walker used that to validate a Heisman Trophy campaign that resembles the year Lorenzo White carried the Spartans to a Big Ten championship in 1987. Walker rushed for 197 yards and five TDs. That included the game-tying 58-yard TD with 12:29 left in the fourth and the go-ahead score from 23 yards out with 5:08 remaining.
MORE: How Michigan State rallied to pull off upset
Michigan State suddenly will be the highest-ranked team in the first CFP rankings (even ahead of Ohio State), and with that complementary football will give the Buckeyes something to think about ahead of their showdown at Ohio Stadium on Nov. 20. Hey, the Spartans are the last Big Ten team to win there, and they did it on a CFP run in 2015. Ohio State fans remember that one.

Michigan? Well, those second-guesses are back. Again.
Running backs Hassan Haskins and Blake Corum were limited to 104 total yards, but quarterback Cade McNamara was dealing. He was 21 of 29 for 293 yards and two TDs heading into the fourth quarter.
So why did Harbaugh put freshman quarterback J.J. McCarthy on the field with a 33-30 lead with 7:12 remaining? McCarthy fumbled, just as he had on his last play the previous series, and Michigan State’s Jacub Panasuik pounced on it. McCarthy might be the answer for the Wolverines at quarterback soon, but this was McNamara’s game.
What happened to the defense? Michigan State’s offense revved up in the second half, and Payton Thorne shook off two first-half interceptions. Michigan State made the plays in crunch time and sealed the upset with a one-handed interception by Charles Brantley.
Not quite the “Punt Fumble,” but the same effect. Seriously, what has changed for Michigan six years later?
The Wolverines’ Big Ten championship hopes require help.
Michigan still has road games at No. 20 Penn State and Ohio State. All of the goodwill built up from an encouraging start with a revamped staff is gone. What’s most-disheartening in Ann Arbor is that McNamara put Michigan in position to win, but he wasn’t on the field in key second-half moments.
He won’t have to answer for that, but Harbaugh will.
That same-old narrative is alive and well, and it left Michigan wondering the same thing.
How did this happen again?

Wolverines and Spartans Set on Collision Course?
Tumblr media
The battle for the Paul Bunyan Trophy in 2019
Michigan and Michigan State football could be set on a collision course for their matchup in East Lansing on October 30th after great starts to their seasons. Both teams started the year unranked, but 3-0 records through a month of play have propelled them into the top 20 of the AP Poll, and Michigan’s game at Wisconsin will be the only ranked opponent either team will play before the showdown on the 30th, meaning there’s a chance both teams could be undefeated going into the game.
The run game has been a huge part of the offensive attack for both teams, as they’re each in the top 3 in the Big 10 for total rushing yards, Michigan at 1 and State at 3. For the Spartans, it’s been Wake Forest transfer Kenneth Walker III, racking up nearly 500 yards through his first 3 games in the green and white, and averaging over 8.5 yards per carry. And for Michigan, both Hassan Haskins and Blake Corum have shined. Corum is probably the more well-known of the two at this point, with his highlight-reel speed, but they just about split carries 50-50, and have combined for 688 yards on the year.
Coaching has also been a relevant topic for both teams in recent years. Jim Harbaugh has been on the hot seat seemingly since the end of his second season, and Mel Tucker was far from MSU’s number one choice in the search to replace Mark Dantonio. However, Tucker has gotten his team out to a great start this year, and Harbaugh seems to have left 2020’s 2-4 season in the past. The biggest gripe with Harbaugh over the years has been his performance against rivals, more infamously Ohio State, but the Spartans as well. He’s 3-3 against Michigan State, but all three losses are as favorites at home, most notably as 20-point favorites last year.
This year’s matchup between the two rivals probably won’t be pretty. It’ll be a battle in the trenches, likely decided in the run game. 3 of the last 6 matchups have been decided by one possession, could we see another battle down to the wire? Will Mel Tucker go to 2-0 in his career against the Wolverines, or will Jim Harbaugh pull off a statement win? We’ll find out on October 30th.

Kenneth Haskin

Here’s our latest NFL mock draft, right after the combine
Tumblr media
Where Tua Tagovailoa will end up is one of the biggest question marks of the 2020 NFL Draft.
A potential bombshell was dropped at the NFL Scouting Combine. What happens if Washington doesn’t draft Chase Young?
The NFL Scouting Combine is a wrap, and it’s leading to some serious speculation about the second overall pick.
We all know that the Cincinnati Bengals are poised to take LSU quarterback Joe Burrow first overall. But headlines were made when new Washington head coach Ron Rivera spoke to the media about his intentions with the second pick in the draft.
“Everything is an option,” Rivera said when asked about Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. “We’re not closing the door on anything.”
For now, that opens things up to discussion about Washington not taking Ohio State’s Chase Young. Here’s a look at how that could alter the first round, as well as some players who helped their stock at the combine.
1. Cincinnati Bengals: Joe Burrow, QB, LSU
Offseason needs: Quarterback, wide receiver, offensive tackle, linebacker
Forget that silly false narrative — Burrow has no problem playing for the Bengals. Adding to that, Bengals player personnel director Duke Tobin all but shot down the notion of trading the first pick in the draft. Put that together and the case is even stronger that Burrow is the No. 1 pick.
2. Washington: Tua Tagovailoa, QB, Alabama
Offseason needs: Offensive tackle, pass rusher, wide receiver, cornerback
You can’t dismiss the fact that Rivera was not part of the organization when it drafted Dwayne Haskins last year. And while Rivera said a team can win with Haskins, this seemed like much more of a damning quote.
“He’s not anointed, that’s for sure,” Rivera said during his media session. “I expect him to come in and compete and work, and we’ll see what happens.”
3. Detroit Lions: Chase Young, DE, Ohio State
Offseason needs: Cornerback, defensive tackle, pass rusher, wide receiver
No one will be happier if Tagovailoa goes second than the Lions. That leaves Young, the best player in the draft, for them. After giving Trey Flowers a five-year, $90 million contract last offseason, the Lions would have a lot of money tied up in their pass rush. But defensive ends of Young’s caliber make it worth it.
4. New York Giants: Isaiah Simmons, LB, Clemson
Offseason needs: Offensive tackle, pass rusher, linebacker, cornerback
Simmons, somehow, exceeded expectations at the combine with his insane workout. Call him a Derwin James clone. Or a taller Thomas Davis. No matter the comparison you prefer, Simmons is going to be a star in the NFL.
5. Miami Dolphins: Justin Herbert, QB, Oregon
Offseason needs: Quarterback, pass rusher, offensive tackle, running back, cornerback
Herbert stole the show during the quarterback portion of combine workouts, but not so much that he becomes one of the first two quarterbacks off the board. But if Tagovailoa is the No. 2 pick, the Dolphins could sit back at No. 5 and take Herbert.
6. Los Angeles Chargers: Jedrick Wills, OT, Alabama
Offseason needs: Quarterback, offensive tackle, cornerback, guard
Arguably no team will be hit harder by Tagovailoa going second than the Chargers. It would mean there’s a strong possibility on missing out on Herbert and going into next season either starting Tyrod Taylor or a free agent signing. Whomever is the quarterback in Los Angeles needs an improved line. If the Chargers can fix their line and add a couple of pieces here and there, they could be one of the surprise teams in the NFL next season.
7. Carolina Panthers: Derrick Brown, DT, Auburn
Offseason needs: Linebacker, defensive tackle, cornerback, quarterback
If three quarterbacks go in the first five picks, the Panthers can find themselves in position to get one of the draft’s elite players. Brown, at 325 pounds, is a powerhouse defensive tackle who can stuff the run and get after the quarterback. As new head coach Matt Rhule reshapes Carolina’s roster, Brown could be the centerpiece on defense.
8. Arizona Cardinals: Tristan Wirfs, OT, Iowa
Offseason needs: Offensive tackle, defensive tackle, wide receiver, pass rusher
It’s hard to decide who had the single most impressive combine, but you can’t go wrong saying it was Wirfs. He set a record for offensive linemen in the broad and vertical jumps, and he had the fast 40-yard dash time of all blockers in Indy this year. That was all at 320 pounds, too. Wirfs’ athleticism is legendary. The craziest thing? It’s all evident when you watch him play.
9. Jacksonville Jaguars: Jeff Okudah, CB, Ohio State
Offseason needs: Cornerback, wide receiver, linebacker, safety
Okudah had a brief injury scare at the combine, but it in no way should impact his draft stock. If the Jaguars target a defensive player and Simmons is gone, Okudah should get the nod over anyone else. He can lock down lead receivers for Jacksonville, and take a lot of the pressure off veteran A.J. Bouye.
10. Cleveland Browns: Mekhi Becton, OT, Louisville
Offseason needs: Offensive tackle (both sides), safety, linebacker, slot cornerback
Becton tipped the scales at the combine at 364 pounds and still managed to run the 40-yard dash in 5.1 seconds. That’s a lot of force at play. More importantly, Becton has shown he uses his size against defenders, both at the edge and in space.
11. New York Jets: Andrew Thomas, OT, Georgia
Offseason needs: Pass rusher, offensive tackle, wide receiver, cornerback
Leading up to the start of free agency, there are rumors of the Jets being the landing spot for Titans right tackle Jack Conklin — unless they are not. What happens with Conklin will determine what the Jets do with the 11th pick. If Conklin signs elsewhere, the Jets could take the fifth offensive tackle in first 11 picks. In most drafts that would be ridiculous. But in any other year, a player like Thomas would be in contention for the first five picks.
12. Las Vegas Raiders: CeeDee Lamb, WR, Oklahoma
Offseason needs: Wide receiver, cornerback, linebacker, quarterback
The Raiders could have their pick of wide receivers if we do see a big run on offensive tackles. Raiders general manager Mike Mayock explained what he’s looking for in a wide receiver, and Lamb fits the bill nicely.
13. Indianapolis Colts: Jerry Jeudy, WR, Alabama
Offseason needs: Quarterback, wide receiver, offensive tackle, defensive lineman
The Colts seem poised to sign a veteran quarterback this offseason, with Philip Rivers the likeliest possibility. If that happens, the Colts will be in win-now mode. With a good offensive line and solid running game, Indianapolis’ offense could be rounded out with a sure thing of a wide receiver like Jeudy.
14. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Javon Kinlaw, DT, South Carolina
Offseason needs: Quarterback, pass rushing defensive tackle, pass rusher, offensive tackle
Kinlaw sat out the combine because of tendinitis, but it shouldn’t ding his draft prospects. For the Buccaneers, Kinlaw would give them the type of pass-rushing interior defensive lineman that they need next to Vita Vea.
15. Denver Broncos: Henry Ruggs III, WR, Alabama
Offseason needs: Wide receiver, offensive tackle, cornerback, linebacker
Although Ruggs didn’t break John Ross’ 40-yard dash record, he still had an excellent combine. That means the discussion point will be about whether or not he’s jumped over Jeudy or Lamb. The Broncos should hope not. Ruggs is a perfect complement to Courtland Sutton and would give Denver a strong wide receiver duo.
16. Atlanta Falcons: K’Lavon Chaisson, Edge, LSU
Offseason needs: Edge rusher, interior pass rusher, cornerback, offensive tackle
Whether it’s Takkarist McKinley or Vic Beasley, Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff has shown he has a preferred type of pass rusher. This draft’s version is Chaisson, a speedy standup rusher with good athleticism.
17. Dallas Cowboys: Xavier McKinney, S, Alabama
Offseason needs: Safety, cornerback, defensive tackle, pass rusher
With the fate of Amari Cooper, Byron Jones, and Dak Prescott up in the air, the Cowboys are the most intriguing team going into free agency. What happens with that trio will determine the direction Dallas takes in the first round. Jones is the most likely to leave, putting defensive back squarely at the top of the team’s needs. McKinney bowed out of the combine with cramps, but he’s considered by many as the top safety this year.
18. Miami Dolphins (via Pittsburgh Steelers): A.J. Epenesa, DE, Iowa
Offseason needs: Quarterback, pass rusher, offensive tackle, running back, cornerback
If Epenesa slips past Atlanta and Dallas, the Dolphins should pounce. While they do need offensive line help, good pass rushers are hard to come by. Epenesa can play inside or outside for the Dolphins.
19. Las Vegas Raiders (via Chicago Bears): Kenneth Murray, LB, Oklahoma
Offseason needs: Wide receiver, cornerback, linebacker, quarterback
While everyone is rightfully excited about what the offensive linemen and wide receivers did at the combine, it’s easy to overlook Murray’s performance. He ran a 4.52-second 40 and had good vertical, bench press, and broad jump numbers. There’s some ambiguity to his exact position as a linebacker, but the Raiders need a talent like him on their defense.
20. Jacksonville Jaguars: (via Los Angeles Rams): Justin Jefferson, WR, LSU
Offseason needs: Cornerback, wide receiver, linebacker, safety
Jefferson was a first-round player before the combine and did well to bolster his draft status. Jefferson is a stellar slot receiver with speed and sure hands.
21. Philadelphia Eagles: CJ Henderson, CB, Florida
Offseason needs: Wide receiver, cornerback, linebacker, safety
There was plenty of speculation from NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah during the combine broadcast that Henderson is a top-15 pick. If he happens to drop to this range, the Eagles should snag him. Philadelphia has multiple free agent cornerbacks, and Rasul Douglas and Sidney Jones just haven’t developed as expected.
22. Buffalo Bills: Jalen Reagor, WR, TCU
Offseason needs: Pass rusher, big wide receiver, interior defensive lineman, cornerback
With Tee Higgins sitting out the combine and Laviska Shenault limited by injury, Reagor could rise ahead of them in April. Reagor may not be the 6’2 or 6’3-type of receiver the Bills need, but he plays bigger than his 5’11 size, and he showed it with a 42-inch vertical leap.
23. New England Patriots: Jordan Love, QB, Utah State
Offseason needs: Pass rusher, tight end, offensive tackle, quarterback
Even if the Patriots get Tom Brady back, or acquire a veteran quarterback, they should strongly consider Love if he’s available. Love is a project, but the Patriots could refresh their franchise if he’s coached up correctly.
24. New Orleans Saints: Laviska Shenault Jr., WR, Colorado
Offseason needs: Cornerback, interior offensive lineman, wide receiver, quarterback
A cornerback will be intriguing here, but in Drew Brees’ final years, the Saints could stack their offense for a Super Bowl push. Shenault didn’t do much in Indianapolis and has to undergo surgery. In other words, you have to trust what Shenault did at Colorado to justify a first-round pick.
25. Minnesota Vikings: Austin Jackson, OT, USC
Offseason needs: Cornerback, offensive line, defensive tackle, wide receiver
If Jackson and Houston’s Josh Jones are both available, the Vikings should flip a coin and choose whichever one it lands on. Both are a step below the top four offensive tackles, but have starting ability as rookies. Jackson is a quick blocker and handles speed rushers nicely. In a division with Khalil Mack, Za’Darius Smith, and potentially Young, the Vikings will need that type of blocker.
26. Miami Dolphins (via Houston Texans): Josh Jones, OT, Houston
Offseason needs: Quarterback, pass rusher, offensive tackle, running back, cornerback
If the Dolphins come out of the first round with a new starting quarterback, pass rusher, and offensive tackle, that’s an A+ draft. That’s right, we’re already talking about draft grades.
27. Seattle Seahawks: Isaiah Wilson, OT, Georgia
Offseason needs: Pass rusher, wide receiver, interior offensive lineman, offensive tackle
Going into the combine, people were sleeping on the massive Wilson. Maybe it’s because he was only a redshirt sophomore and sat out Georgia’s bowl game. But the long-limbed, 350-pound right tackle looked good at the combine and may have pushed his way into the first round.
28. Baltimore Ravens: Patrick Queen, LB, LSU
Offseason needs: Linebacker, wide receiver, pass rusher, cornerback
I’m sticking with this pick from last week. Queen suffered a hamstring injury at the combine, yet still put up a 4.5 in the 40. That shows his athleticism to a degree. It’s the type of athleticism Baltimore needs on defense.
29. Tennessee Titans: Julian Okwara, Edge, Notre Dame
Offseason needs: Pass rusher, offensive tackle, quarterback, tight end
A leg injury limited Okwara to only doing the bench press at the combine, which is unfortunate. Several teams in this range are after a pass rusher, but Okwara might slide over concerns about his health. If he does, Tennessee could take a chance in the back for the first round and find a partner for Harold Landry.
30. Green Bay Packers: Brandon Aiyuk, WR, Arizona State
Offseason needs: Wide receiver, linebacker, offensive lineman, tight end
This would be a great spot for either Jefferson or Reagor, but both were gone in this scenario. This is actually a tough draw all around for the Packers. The best offensive linemen and linebackers are all gone, and there isn’t a tight end worth a first-round pick this year. Aiyuk is a fringe first-round player with his ability to get deep and make a play after the catch.
31. San Francisco 49ers: Grant Delpit, S, LSU
Offseason needs: Safety, cornerback, offensive lineman, linebacker
Despite an impressive showing by Lenoir-Rhyne’s Kyle Dugger at the combine, I’m still sticking with Delpit to the 49ers. With Jimmie Ward potentially gone in free agency, the 49ers can find his replacement near the end of the first round.
32. Kansas City Chiefs: Kristian Fulton, CB, LSU
Offseason needs: Linebacker, cornerback, running back, offensive lineman
Between Fulton, Clemson’s A.J. Terrell, or Mississippi State’s Cameron Dantzler, the Chiefs should have some solid cornerback options with the 32nd pick. Fulton had 25 passes defensed the last two seasons and comes out of an LSU program that knows how to develop secondary players.

2020 NFL Mock Draft
Team draft order is via tankathon.com. Big board can be found here.
1 Bengals Joe Burrow QB LSU
There is a ton of debate between taking the QB of the future of Chase Young. On one hand, Chase is elite and it may be early for a QB. On the other hand, I watched the difference between Burrow and Fromm on television and I can tell you I have no interest in taking a flyer in the second round. If we want to draft a QB of the future, this is the best chance we’re going to have.
2GiantsChase YoungEDGEOhio State
This is the best possible situation for the Giants. This is parade-worthy.
3RedskinsAndrew ThomasOTGeorgia
The pick makes a lot of sense for a lot of reason. It really won’t matter until they address the front office but that’s a discussion for another time. Haskins needs help. He has a WR, let’s get him a tackle.
4DolphinsTua TagovailoaQBAlabama
I always hate dropping a QB in a terrible situation but such is the life of a lot of these QB’s. We’ve got 3 picks in the first so let’s get Tua and start building.
5LionsJerry JeudyWRAlabama
It’s not a massive need but how do you pass it up? This is also, by the way, a bad situation for the Packers. Better be ready for a shootout.
6CardinalsJeffrey OkudahCBOhio State
The Cardinals need a lot of things so taking the best available is probably the best option. Fortunately for the Okudah is a stud and their corners are horrible, even with Peterson who is likely gone next year.
7JaguarsTristan WirfsOTIowa
A WR feels like the right thing to do but we need a solid foundation first and we just simply don’t have it. Get the OL, protect the QB, establish the run, THEN worry about passing the ball all over the yard.
8FalconsA.J. EpenesaEDGEIowa
Not only are we not getting enough production off the edge but McKinley, Clayborn, Hegeman, Bailey, and Means are all either free agents prior to 2020 or after it. We have to address this.
9JetsCeedee LambWROklahoma
I’d love to get some OL help but there isn’t much available and this is a team that just needs a spark. We got a flashy new QB, Le’Veon Bell is our RB, and we are the most boring offense in football. Let’s liven this up a little.
10ChargersTyler BiadaszIOLWisconsin
Just when everything seemed to be going right, the offensive line decided they would all at once decide to play like garbage. Okung fell off a cliff… Well actually everyone else has always kind of been trash. All the more reason.
11BroncosKristian FultonCBLSU
Another time I really wanted to get a WR to see if I could just super power this offense but the corners are about to ruin what could otherwise be a great defense. Fangio has this defense humming but take Harris out of the corner group and it is beyond horrible.
12PanthersJustin HerbertQBOregon
Lots of folks won’t like this but it seems to already be in the works. They are looking for a new HC already and the rumors of moving on from Cam are already swirling. They have other needs but it looks like the Panthers are looking for a full rebuild and Kyle Allen is the answer to nothing.
13EaglesTrevon DiggsCBAlabama
The corners have been an issue here for a while. It’s a little bit of a reach but I’m going need over value here.
14RaidersIsaiah SimmonsLBClemson
Being patient pays off for the Raiders because there are 3 top tier talents available. This might be the lesser of the 3 but we need a LB badly and Simmons is a great one.
15ColtsDerrick BrownDLAuburn
If you didn’t know any better you’d assume this was a Colts fan mock draft because Brown falling to 15 is insane. But alas, here we are. Brown is considered by many to be a top 3 talent but is 7th on my board. Still a massive slide and a huge pick up for a team that could really use him.
16BucsGrant DelpitSLSU
This is the 3rd of 3 to slide massively because of reasons, and is another huge get for a team that needs a safety. In fact I would argue they need one more than any other team. This is absolute best case scenario… Well maybe one of the QBs falling but whatever, this is big.
17BrownsJavon KinlawDLSouth Carolina
I wouldn’t say I’m in love with the pick and if I was doing trades in this mock I might do one here but the defensive front isn’t great and Kinlaw could be a monster interior pass rusher.
18Raiders (CHI)Henry RuggsWRAlabama
We added some defensive help with Simmons, now we’re going to get a little firepower. An Alabama replacement for Cooper feels right also.
19TitansCreed HumphreyIOLOklahoma
The Titans are similar to the Chargers in that their roster is nowhere near as bad as their record. With Tannehill playing well and possibly about to get an extension, let’s get a tad more help along the interior and see if we can get this thing going.
20Jaguars (LAR)Laviska ShenaultWRColorado
We added a tackle earlier in the draft with Wirfs and I halfway regretted not getting a WR because we just have nothing at the position. We have a few option but I think the trigger just needs to be pulled here.
21CowboysXavier McKinneySAlabama
The Cowboys have been begging for safeties in FA and aren’t very covert about it. McKinney is near the top of the board so I’m not going to hesitate.
22Mia (PIT)Alex LeatherwoodOTAlabama
As I said, we got Tua, now it’s our job to not ruin him. Getting a tackle is the first step.
23Mia (HOU)D’Andre SwiftRBGeorgia
And then I’ll take, protect the QB with a receiving back for 1,000, Alex.
24VikingsC.J. HendersonCBFlorida
Slight reach but it’s the most obvious glaring issue and is the thing that would probably upset me the most so here ya go.
25BillsJonathan TaylorRBWisconsin
I’ve been saying for a while J.T. to the Bills makes a ton of sense. Why stop now.
26ChiefsYetur Gross-MatosEDGEPenn State
Well at least that payday for Clark worked out for Clark. As for the Chiefs, this defense needs a lot of help and getting help off the edge isn’t a bad place to begin looking.
27PackersDylan MosesLBAlabama
OL, WR, and LB are the biggest wants of Packers fans. Seeing Moses, who is #20 on my board, still available made this decision very easy. Most think the Packers would never take a LB in the first but I think that’s silly. They definitely prioritize different positions more highly but if a LB is the highest on the board and your next highest is ranked 27th, Gute will skip down Vegas to turn the card in personally.
28SeahawksJedrick WillsOTAlabama
Ya I’m reaching for offensive linemen for the Seahawks cause it’s a mock published on a day ending in Y. Not that it’s a prediction. if I wanted to predict a pick I’d scroll to guys that are a 3rd round value, close my eyes, and poke the screen. But in this mock I’m the GM and once again, we’re going to try and actually build a legitimate NFL offensive line.
29PatriotsRaekwon DavisDLAlabama
If I was forced to pick a weak spot, defensive line (not edge) would be near the top. I considered Tee Higgins but we just took a WR in the first last year. Davis just feels more like a Patriots pick anyway. Massive monster that can’t be moved along the DL.
30SaintsTee HigginsWRClemson
Because it’ll make everyone else say “Oh no”
31RavensCurtis WeaverEDGEAuburn
Judon is a stud and will probably get paid but we lose Za’darius and Suggs, and McPhee might be on the way out. Gotta reload.
3249ersKenneth MurrayLBOklahoma
The 49ers are solid but there are a surprising amount of holes. They just paid Kwon but I don’t care, that was stupid. Let’s actually get a good LB on the team.

Michigan vs. Michigan State live score, updates, highlights from 2021 Big Ten rivalry game
Tumblr media
No. 8 Michigan State is scheduled to host No. 6 Michigan on Saturday in one of the most highly anticipated Big Ten games of the season.
The matchup marks the fifth time in history that the in-state rivals will play each other as top-10 teams and the first such meeting since 1964. The Wolverines will be looking for revenge after the Spartans escaped Ann Arbor with a 27-24 win last year.
Michigan cruised to a 33-7 win over Northwestern last week behind a strong rushing attack. Running back Blake Corum, who leads the Wolverines with 729 rushing yards this season, racked up 119 yards and two touchdowns against the Wildcats. Hassan Haskins wasn’t far behind with 110 yards and two touchdowns of his own.

The Spartans also have a terrific ground game led by running back Kenneth Walker III, who transferred to Michigan State after spending two years at Wake Forest. Walker is currently second in the nation in rushing yards (997) behind only Syracuse’s Sean Tucker (1,060).
Although the game is scheduled to take place at Spartan Stadium in East Lansing, Michigan is favored by 4.5 points, according to FanDuel.

I was tagged by @classicmoviesandtv. Thank you!
Rules: List Your 10 Favorite Characters from 10 Different Fandoms (in No Particular Order) then Tag 10 Other people.
Like @classicmoviesandtv said, I don’t think I’m in 10 official fandoms, so these are characters I’m a fan of, some with, some without fandoms.
1. Donald O’Connor (of course!). Well, that’s the fandom, so...favorite character would have to be Kenneth Gibson from Call Me Madam, or Jigger Malloy from Walking My Baby Back Home, or Milton Haskins from Are You With It? or Pat Junior from Patrick the Great
2. Gordon MacRae as Curly in Oklahoma!
3. Ward Bond as Major Seth Adams in Wagon Train and as Al Yackey in A Guy Named Joe
4. Mike Heck, The Middle
5. Frank Remley, Phil Harris-Alice Faye Show (old time radio)
6. Oliver Campion in Elswyth Thane’s Williamsburg book series (If you like historical fiction, this series is worth checking out. It follows one large, extended family, starting during the American Revolution and running through mid-WWII)
7. Beverly Calhoun in George Barr McCutcheon’s Graustark book series 8. Rilla and Ken, Lucy Maud Montgomery’s Anne of Green Gables series
9. Walter Denton, Our Miss Brooks radio and TV series
10. Lee “Scarecrow” Stetson, Scarecrow & Mrs. King (How did I almost forget gorgeous Bruce Boxleitner? Good grief.)
That was fun, really made me think, and hopefully it’ll encourage some interest in some of the lesser-known “fandoms” mentioned.
I tag @bakalyantastic, @atributetotheclassicmovies, @vera-ellen, @teach-me-how-to-dougie-fairbanks, @anintelligentoctopus and anyone else who wants to play!

Kenneth Haskin
