Cardverse Week 2023
@aphcardverse-week
Day One: Royalty - Arranged marriage | Coronation | Tradition
Francis did not pick his new Queen, but watching her bear the weight of that heavy crown, he doesn't doubt Vash's judgement in this matter. Gen | No Romance | No Warnings Apply
The girl was small, fae like almost. She had daisies and sweet williams thread in a crown across the braid that spanned the top of her head. A white dress with cap sleeves and a yellow satin belt, tied neatly into a stiff bow at the back, reached her slim ankles, little pale yellow shoes poking out to reveal delicate feet. Francis could not quite see to confirm their colour, but her eyes stared doggedly at his knees, utterly respectable and reverent. According to her family, she was sweet, gentle, and good natured.
She was also practically a child.
Francis kissed Lili’s hand, then peered over at Vash. The girl’s brother, Jack of the Kingdom and the one who had reluctantly proposed the match, had a face like a thunderous storm.
There was no law dictating that a King and Queen must love each other, nor even that they must marry. Indeed, of the four Kingdoms, Clubs’ King had deftly been set aside for the Jack by the Queen, whilst in Hearts, the King and Jack were as inseparable as any grand love affair told throughout the ages. Only Spades, odd tiny Spades, had the King and Queen in any sort of romantic entanglement. And that, from what Arthur had explained, had been designed from the men’s birth. Pushed together and forced to be in each other’s company until the only outcome was either virulent hatred or genuine love.
Sometimes Francis doubted Arthur was capable of feeling the latter... but it was not for him to judge.
Still. At least all of the Queens were quite safely several years into adulthood. Lili was young, but her brother’s unfortunate decision to ensure she was an utter ingenue, and completely unprepared for any complexity in court life, had left a foul taste in Francis’ mouth. If he did not know his Jack so well, the King would have assumed it was a way to ensure the Queen was totally dependent on her brother for guidance, unlikely to act independently and deny the traditional three point power structure that kept the monarchy in balance.
Fortunately, the King did know his Jack. Lili had superseded all other choices for a reason. Blood was not one of them.
Lili smiled, said her thanks, then looked to Vash for guidance.
Uncomfortable as always, Vash’s eyes did soften when speaking to his sister. Softly, but still rather brusque - the Jack was not known for his empathetic nature - Vash urged her to stand straight, and to look her eventual husband in the eye.
In the grand mirrored hall, with half the court watching with a snide curiosity, the King searched for something to say. Something to find in common with the girl nearly ten years his junior.
“Tell me Lili,” he tried, “Do you play cards?”
Those soft blue eyes sparkled, little mouth popping open. She did not speak, but nodded enthusiastically.
“She plays a little,” Vash spoke for her.
Lili tutted, finding her own voice. “If I may boast, I believe I am rather good at it.”
Francis resisted the urge to heave a sigh. It was a start.
“Then let us go sit and talk over a game.”
*****
She was more than rather good, the King soon discovered. In fact, she was rather beastly at it.
It was hard not to treat her akin to a child. She was small, she was soft spoken, she did enjoy filling her chambers with soft toys, her favourite food was angel cake and there was nothing in her wardrobe which was not covered in flowers or glitter.
But then and again she did odd little things. She had a knack for reading people which indeed did make her unbeatable in games such as poker. She revealed herself to be just as fiscally minded as her elder brother, albeit slightly less ruthless about it.
Lili was also rather stubborn, when it came down to it. In the planning of her coronation, she could be softly fixated on certain aspects, yet delicate enough in her manner of speaking and presentation that denying her would be either preposterous or cruel.
There had been peace for many years, Francis was forever a snob who enjoyed the finer things in life, and Lili’s favourite colour was gold.
Not yellow. Gold.
Of course the expense was going to be astronomical. However, as Francis had discovered, that was why Vash was their Jack, and Lili was their Queen.
The night before her coronation, Francis sat with her on the veranda in the gardens. Lilies filled oversized pots, merging with crawling ivy around pillars.
“I think I should be honest with you about what to expect from our partnership,” he stated.
Lili drank delicately from her tea cup. Her eyes darted around the space, looking for her brother. There was no chaperone tonight, just Francis and his eventual Queen.
The King endeavoured to keep his expression kind.
“I hope that I will always treat you with the respect that you deserve and are entitled to.”
Lili blinked owlishly.
“But
I will be brutal. This is not a love match. There will be no wedding. Ever.”
“No
”
“Do you wish otherwise?”
She inspected him quite closely. Then, she softly shook her head.
“Vash said perhaps, you would be content if you were to claim the title of brother. Not to supplant him, of course, but I thought perhaps that sort of love could flourish, if there will be no wedding.”
Relief flooded through Francis. “Big brother? I like that. Good. Then I hope you know that I will continue with my dalliances as I see fit. No-one will out rank you. No-one will command you. But we are King and Queen. Not husband and wife. Traditionally speaking.”
“Will I have the same courtesy?”
“Pardon?”
“May I love who I chose? Without your vetting first? I would like to build my own circle of companions. Ladies to wait on me, men to entertain and protect? Just as you have?”
Ah. She had caught him out there. Francis did not trust easily, and yet he was loathe to be called a hypocrite. Lord knows his lovers had not always had their king’s best interests at heart. Just as Francis did not expect them to. He was not naive.
The thought, however, of Lili being taken advantage of, was somewhat enraging.
Perhaps that was engineered by her and Vash, but Francis settled himself to expect that feeling going forward. Fine. He would be yet another watchful brother to spoil the Queen. That suited him quite well.
And yet, looking at those constant, measured, blue eyes, he knew she was not as frivolous as he. She was her brother’s sister after all. She would not choose her company lightly.
“Would you prefer it if we went through our courts together?”
She mused the compromise, then nodded. “To vet them? Yes.”
“Then we shall do that.”
“Are you sad,” she asked, “to be tied to me and yet not in that way? You do not wish for someone you love? We will never marry so long as we rule, as you say, either to each other or someone we may truly love.”
He shrugged, long having come to term with such a quandary. “I will still love. As may you. May it be what it is. It is tradition by this point. Our people first, ourselves second. Let us serve them as only we can.”
Lili took another sip, expression inscrutable. Francis prodded, “Have I misjudged? Do you expect something of me I am not willing to give?”
She looked only slightly mournful. “No. Not from you personally, sir. Just the thought of a quieter life I mourn. I will recover.”
Francis stood, rested a gloved hand on Lili’s bare shoulder, then kissed her temple. She did not shudder, move away, or follow the touch. She sat perfectly still, accepting it for what it was. A comfort and a resignation.
“I think,” Francis said, “come tomorrow, such thoughts may be quite far from your mind.”
Her tiny hand came up, wrapped around his wrist, and squeezed. She was surprisingly strong.
“I hope I am worthy.”
*****
In a cathedral occupied by four thousand people, it was a surprisingly intimate affair. As was tradition, the monarch was blocked off by tapestries towards the end of the ceremony. Lili was on her knees whilst the Bishop read a passage quietly only to her. She made her oaths to their Gods, then rose up to her feet as the tapestries were pulled away. The King was standing close by, magnificent crown on his own head, the Queen's version in his hands. Vash stood on the left, sword in hand and pushed into the ground, point scraping the stone floor. Francis was staring very hard at the crown, with its gold and pearls and shining diamonds for which the Kingdom took its name.
He was inspecting the Crown as if it would give him the answer to some terrible question he had been unable to answer. As if tilting in a certain light, seeing a certain gleam, would lay each and all of his troubles to rest.
Lili moved forward, slowly, the great weights of her yellow dress and cape trains adding gravitas to her movement. She lowered herself again, and Francis deftly placed the crown on her head. It had to be squished a little over her fluffy hair. It was heavy. She looked up at Francis, whose expression was unusually grave. When she tried to stand, she found the weight of her clothes and the solid gold lump on her head was now too much for her tiny body.
The King took her hands, giving her a solid weight to anchor herself to. She rose with a grateful smile. Quickly, so quickly that no-one would have noticed, Francis’ stern face cracked. His mouth twitched and he winked at her.
“Heavy,” she whispered.
“Which is why we have each other,” he replied.
Lili held on still with one hand, turning to face the congregation. Vash, for once, was smiling (though not enough to show his teeth, no, he had never been that happy) and joined the two on the high step. He cried out for the cheering to begin. The crowd did very well, the wall of sound almost being enough to push the Queen back a step. Bells rang out, jubilant and - if her ears were not lying to her - joined by the cheering of crowds outside.
At the front were the nine royals from the other three nations. Spades, all in blue and indigo, Hearts, in red and violet, and Clubs, in green and black. Some, Francis noted with disdain, appeared more invested than others.
He took a mental note, then quietly stashed the thought away for another time.
For now, the King turned to his new young Queen, bowed, then began to lead her out the Cathedral.
She was not necessarily the one he would have chosen for himself, but Francis knew his flaws. His judgement of people was not always
 astute.
This little golden bird however, held her head high, even under the weight of a nation, and did not flinch as she stepped into the sun.
The Kingdom of Diamond’s had chosen their Queen quite well.

Okay, for all of you who don't feel like watching Miles RP as David
Here are some of my favorite quotes. Context may be added if I feel like it. Reactions are my goblin brain screaming. All of these came from a discord so if they don't make sense . . . see goblin brain comment.
(That link should start directly at the point where he becomes David; if it doesn't, skip to 1:40:33)
In roughly chronological order:
David: "Teachers are sort of like camp counselors during the rest of the year."
The thing is David is absolutely up his own ass enough to think this.
David: "Trail mix is expensive!"
^ said to show he understands why not everyone can donate to the charity for teachers. Very adorable, am crying.
David's "ooooh" seeing one dude was extremely non-heterosexual. Fucking bicon. Him losing his mind that one of the arenas is called "Survey camp"
David: "A person's hitting me -- I'm sorry I'm sorry I'm sorry this is just pretend!"
This is just canonically how David plays video games. Either this or he's unwilling to commit violence at all, but I'll defer to Miles.
David: "That's very goat of you!"
Tumblr media
Spencer: "Is David popular amongst his campers?"
David: "I like to think so! There's only 3 staff members, so I'm definitely in everyone's top 3."
"That also means you're in the bottom 3."
David: "Well, I choose not to think of it that way."
(I have to keep adding reacts so you can tell when one quote ends and another begins. Judge not lest ye be judged)
I think the other person in the stream is named Spencer. Friend of Miles. I know literally nothing else about him and am not even confident on those facts.
Every time he says something so non-David in his David voice I die: "I have a lot of grenades!"
David: "Oh my goodness, would you look at this beautiful scenery! Can we hike that mountain?"
This is so goddamn cute. I am dying. Miles looked at his fans and said "they will eat tonight" and I am so relieved.
David: "Not to be a couple of Greedy Garys, but I say we get this [care package] and then I'll drop another one!"
The fact that Miles is grinning like a lunatic the entire time is very good. (Also if this is formatted badly then I'm sorry but not all that sorry. I'm doing my best and David would be proud of me.)
David: "Didja getim? Didja getim? didja getim? How 'bout now?"
Spencer: "I didn't get 'em."
David: "Well, you tried your best and that's all that matters."
Tumblr media
He calls healing "a little health kiss." I'm not sure why but it's very important to me.
David: [while jumping to murder someone] "Hi! Scuse me!"
(i just need something to separate the quotes okay)
David: "Well you know what gang, we did our best. You don't always win the 3-legged race. You did a wonderful job!"
Then there's a bit where they talk about Spencer's time at summer camp:
David: "ooooh hand-holding's pretty serious!"
David is too pure.
David: [dreamily] "Did you fall in love, Spencer? A summer love?" [puts hands up to his face]
Then there's the fact that David/Miles gets to pick where they play each round, and he keeps insisting on going to the one called "Survey Camp" every single time because it has the word "camp" in it.
David: "Now, I don't like to disagree, but . . . I was thinking we could go . . . to Survey Camp!"
Spencer reminds him that technically since David's the one with the power to choose, his opinion is the only one that matters:
David: "Everyone's opinion matters. And my opinion is we're going to camp."
David just steamrolling over Spencer's interests is very good. There are these little selfish nuggets sprinkled in among the wholesomeness that really capture the full David experience.
David: "Well, he's climbing up . . . he's coming my direction . . . oh, he looks scary . . ."
Spencer: "Is he coming towards me?"
David: "Oooh, I don't know. I'm dead!"
The positivity is relentless. I think Miles said on twitter afterwards that this whole thing was exhausting and I can see why. Being David is no picnic . . .
David: "I have a question: do we have to shoot each other in this game?"
And then a few seconds later:
David: "I'm just wondering if maybe there's a way we can, you know, help others. Talk through our issues."
And a few seconds after that:
David: "I was asking if they wanted to be friends in the game!"
I believe that moved killed him, too. Precious.
Also we're interrupting the real Miles!David content to share something my friend suggested to me while I was watching this and giving her quotes; she said that maybe David just calls everything camp to make life more fun, and then sent me this imaginary exchange that actually killed me all the way to death:
David: Gwen Santos would you go to marriage camp with me
Gwen: I'm going to have to change this story when I tell everyone
It made me laugh quite a bit.
Anyway, back to the video!
Spencer: "How do you sign up for [Camp Campbell]?"
David: "Well, um, you can fax, uh, an application to [email protected]. And . . . you can know that myself and Gwen and Quartermaster and sometimes Mr. Campbell will do our best to make sure they get what they need! Which more than anything is love and support. And friendship."
Spencer: "How many dollars does this camp cost?"
David: "You know . . . it is, um . . ."
And then the conversation switches subjects and David breathes a sigh of relief.
Very shortly after this he changed his character from a woman (she was wearing a yellow shirt, which he liked because the campers wear yellow shirts) to "a Forward Scout with a positive attitude!"
Tumblr media
"I like his style."
Spencer: "Does everybody abuse David verbally?"
David: "You know, sometimes people have harsh words. Mostly Max, and Neil, and Gwen, and Quartermaster, and Nurf."
Spencer: "Did you just list almost everyone?"
David: "Mmm . . . I'd say maybe a third."
Poor David. Somebody please protect him.
Spencer: "Yeah, I think people abuse David. I get that vibe. Or at least, I feel it in my heart. Like I wanna put ants in your bunk or something."
David: "Well, I think that says more about maybe some of the hurt you're carrying with you. And sometimes when people don't know how to process that, they act out. Do you want some trail mix?"
David just said his favorite part of trail mix is the raisins which is so cute. "They have a little bit of salt on them, which isn't typical for a raisin."
And he keeps telling chatters to watch their language.
David: "Who is my favorite camper? Aww, you know I couldn't pick a favorite! . . . But I know who has the most potential, even if he doesn't want to admit it."
I KNEW IT!!!!!
I've been saying for years that David doesn't have a favorite and gravitates towards the ones he thinks need him the most AND I FINALLY GOT ONE RIGHT!
Tumblr media
David: "Well you know, Gwen swears and that's okay."
shipping intensifies
David: [gasp] "The moss is growing on the north side of the rock!"
Every time he nerds out about weird shit in the game I gain 3 seconds to my life.
Spencer: "Did you get teabagged?"
David: "What's that?"
Spencer: "It's where somebody places their most intimate bits on you for . . . friendship."
David: [softly] "Oh, I don't know about that."
Also David confirms that the whole show has been a single summer, so please see the "vindication" gif above.
David: "I know a lot of fun camp songs."
Spencer: "Sing 3."
David: [starts singing] "Bum-bum-bumblebee, bumblebee tuna, I love bumblebee, bumblebee tuna . . ."
Spencer: "Okay, please stop. I immediately regret this decision."
David: "Max said the same thing! One of my campers. And, uh, and my co-counselor, Gwen."
He's literally made of sunshine. I would die for this fictional man.
Spencer: "Are people at camp against their will? I feel like they are."
David: "No! . . . They don't always like it immediately, but it grows on them."
Spencer: "It sounds like they're there against their will."
David: "Well I just think that's a negative way of looking at it."
FWIW Spencer makes an excellent foil to David. Not as aggressive as Max or as dour as Gwen, but he brings a very . . . like, straight-man energy to the conversation. Like how a normal person would react to David IRL. I'd enjoy seeing these two interact more.
Spencer: "It's like your overpositivity is wanting me to balance it out with negativity."
David: "You know, I feel like that dynamic's pretty popular with me."
eeeeeeee <3
And the last one that I personally found noteworthy:
David: "One day we'll be able to afford safety equipment. Until then, we'll just have to deal with Quartermaster's Ropes Course. And a lot of pillows."
There's point near the last 20 minutes where either it got kinda boring or I just got too tired to keep track. But if there are any quotes you think I missed, please share them! This was a really lovely bit of content to feed our starving maw, and I appreciate Miles very very very much for taking one for the team.

Gardenia on the Crown - J.J.H.
3; White sheets and frustration
Tumblr media
pairing: Jung Jaehyun × Reader
genre: angst
length: lil less than 1k words?
warnings: mild language
``
The moment your hand comes in contact with the bronze coldness of the handle it's impossible to stop your chest from overfilling with waves of relief. You're only seconds away from walking into your newly acquired room, your personal maid awaiting on the other side of the door and fresh, perfumed sheets silently pleading to rest you.
Jaehyun is hot on your tail and although his suffocating grasp fell after reaching the top of the staircase, you can still prominently sense his presence behind your back, each one of his footsteps bouncing loudly against mosaic decorated walls and shiny marble. The burning feeling of his fingers curving around your wrist has now turned into a dull numbness, spreading out like some kind of venom over your skin with a unique lingering warmth.
Without sparing him a single glance, you push the heavy, wooden door open and enter your chamber, gaze instantly landing on the white bedding you've been longing to see all day. A light scent of flora and dust seeps into your lungs as you take a hesitant step inside, observing the room you'd be calling yours until the damned marriage for the first time.
Having arrived too early in the morning to meet both the prince and his father, you haven't had the chance visit it, only sent your maid to settle the luggage and assure everything is in order, even clean if needed. Judging from the looks of it, the royals were very generous with the choice of your temporary place...
Engraved walls, adorned by thin, intricate streaks of gold that shimmer so stunningly under noon sunlight, luxurious furniture on every corner and a bed almost bigger than the one back home, to house all your peachy dreams and grey nightmares. Upon walking further inside with slight precaution, you spot a gigantic bookcase taking up the entire expanse of the west wall, a colourful variety of book spines placed neatly in order on the shelves.
Thank God, they have books in this hellhole.
At least you will be more than comfortable while hiding from Jaehyun in here now.
The very next moment, a girl dressed in crimson red appears in front of you, bowing with her humble eyes falling to the ground in respect. The sight of her, one of the most trustworthy people in your life and probably your closest friend, instantly draws the curve of a smile on your face. Suddenly, it's almost as if that hideous morning fades into wrinkled scraps of memories, as if everything is going to be okay because her mere existence feels like home and that calms you in more ways than imaginable.
She greets you with the kindest voice, a small bow following.
"Can you please bring me my sleeping gown?" You order with a newfound liveliness dripping from your tone, fingertips reaching up to untie the front of your tight dress; sleep, sweet sleep how it's seducing your eyelids so greedily...
But the girl remains still, her gaze only rapidly moving from the floor to your face and on then something far behind you.
Then, it hits.
Swiftly and more aggressively than needed, you spin around on your thin heels just to find his overly too annoying figure leaning against the door frame, eyeing you with bare impatience.
"Why are you still here..." you ask, not able to conceal the obvious irritation oozing from each word.. "...your Highness?"
Jaheyun promptly nods at your maid and proceeds to casualy walk further inside your room -without permission-. "Could you leave us alone for a second, servant?"
Your blood immediately starts to boil upon hearing him. Who does he think he is to invade your private space so carelessly and give orders your maid in such a rude manner? Prince or not you aren't having it.
Watching her bow again and scurry to the door, you want nothing more than to pull the poor girl back and proudly show indiscipline to your future husband, but for the sake of honour, you manage to contain yourself to a dramatic cough to gather both their attention.
"Excuse me, but she is no servant. She's my maid and you have no right to boss her around!" You are nearly yelling, arms crossed over your chest, as the built up frustration has the chance of a small release for the first time today.
He moves aside for the girl to leave and keeps a quiet stance while slowly swinging the door closed.
"First of all, I do have the right." His voice revibrates into the room louder than you expected, before he turns to focus a pair of icy, freezing eyes, with all the intimidation and arrogance they carry, on you. "And second..."
His long strides quickly lead him just in front of where you're standing in the middle of the room, hands folded behind his back.
"What the hell were are you doing?"
You're utterly taken aback by his sudden reaction, not fully understanding what he means. Even so, you stand your ground, taking a step forward and wearing the most stern face you can master, hands subconsciously running over the ruffles of your dress.
"What am I doing?"
"Why did you fake a headache?"
And your limbs fall still, lips slightly parting at a loss for words, your glance descending from his face to the thin white shirt cladding his chest. This is a second blow you didn't expect, although it was quite obvious the pretentious pain and dizziness back there wasn't all that believable.
Does he have confront you for it though, as if he hasn't realised you're practically running away from his oh so noble existence the whole day?
"How did you know I was faking it?"
"Well, you just confirmed it." Damn him "But also, you're a terrible liar."
"The hell I'm not!" Your voice is growing steadily louder and if he steals any more time from your life to kindly piss you off with stupid, pointless accusations, the whole palace will hear your rage.
"Well, for a princess, your acting was awful, sorry to break it to you." His eyebrow arches mockingly, a grin pulling across his lips to reveal the breathtaking grace of pearly teeth and for a second you think how this is the first time he's ever shown you his smile; as much as you hate to admit it, the entire room just got a little brighter and your head feels a little lighter, a little drowsy...
And it miraculously only appears while he is making fun you. How fitting.
"I grew up in royalty. Do you know how good of an actress one must be to pretend they're not bored out of their mind when dancing with princes who's name they don't even remember?" At this point, you're close enough to kick him straight where he deserves for being such a jerk and the air buzzes heavily with the electricity of every tense emotion radiating off of you.
Jaehyun only drops his gaze to the leather shoes he sports, a chuckle escaping him in the process and if you didn't hate his guts so much, it would've made your heart skip a beat or two at how gentle and beautiful the sound is. "Is that so?"
The prince comes to stand just a breath away from you, minimizing the distance with his eyes rising to render you helpless under their dark pits where a lone spark of mischief shines. "Did you feel the same way on our first dance?"
Did he seriously bring that up?
The smugness on his smirk solely grows, he's teasing...
At the reference of the very first night he laid eyes on you, the most obvious shade of red tints your cheeks as you stand frozen, mouth slightly agape in search of an appropriate answer. He managed to leave you speechless, a river of memories from that ball flowing into your mind ceaselessly and after a moment of silence, it strikes you how you are embarrassed yet again in his presence. No man has ever made you blush three times in a day.
Damn. Him.
"Either way, you might need to learn to lie a little better if you want to stand by my side like a true queen one day."
The words slice through your chest harder than a sword as Jaehyun carelessly backs up towards the door, after just having insulted your dignity and simultaneously rubbed this stupid arranged marriage at your face.
It doesn't surprise you anymore how you long so intensely to grab the closest heavy object and throw it straight at him to wipe that sinister smirk off of his face once and for all. He has surpassed the level of patience you're willing to have with him.
How dare he?
"I don't want to stand by your side like anything!" You shout, startling him as the suppressed anger finally bursts and he halts in place, still like a boulder.
He didn't see it coming.
The faintest trace of shock is written across his face in narrow eyes and a parted mouth, the one emotion he doesn't manage to mask all that well.
You're waiting for him to yell back, scold you and degrade you even more for mouthing such a thing, openly showing your disagreement towards marrying him. You're waiting for bad consequences to come, seeing his lips slightly quiver when he tilts his head.
If he meant to say something, you will never know, as Jaehyun spares you one last glance that hides a mixture of anger, disappointment and something else you can't quite define before reaching for the handle. He leaves you in a deafening silence, interrupting it only by banging the door closed with force and you're alone, at last.
Only that now sleep won't seek out for your eyelids so easily, his words tormenting your mind like restless spirits, a bitter echo to remind you how cold the prince truly is, after all.

Hey it's the Disney anon! Yeah I meant sort of live action BATB cause I love the Bucky fic you did😊 So if it's something you'd be happy to write for can I request a reader x gaston fic where they grew up together and she is in love with him but is convinced it isn't mutual & that he deserves better so doesn't tell him. Another guy asks her out & she accepts cause she thinks she should move on if gaston will never love her. But Gaston actually gets super jealous/possessive. Hope it's ok thanks❀
Pairing: Gaston x Reader Fandom: Disney ; Beauty and the Beast (2017)Warnings: /
A/N: asdfghjkl, I’m so glad you send me this request, I literally grinned so hard when I got it! I don’t normally post two things a day, but I literally had the easiest time writing this. This prompt gave me so much inspiration that I just typed it in one go and I’m actually quite happy with how it turned out. I hope you like it as well and if you have any other gaston x reader request please send them my way. I LOVE writing for him and the reader. (added Gaston to my fandoms list)
Tumblr media
                                                           *****
“You’restaring again,” LeFou, who had seemingly snuck up on you, whispered.
Youblinked a few times to break the spell you were under before andturned around, wanting to convince him that, no, you weren’t staringat Gaston like a fool in love.
But the look he threw you was enoughto know that it wouldn’t work on him.
“It’snot like I don’t understand. And I’m certainly not the one to judgeyou,” he winked at you and you had to laugh a little. “But what Idon’t understand is why you don’t tell him. You’ve known eachother for so long..”
“OhLeFou. If only it were so easy. Look at him..-” he was currentlychasing Belle again. “He doesn’t feel the same and I doubt he everwill. He needs a woman who cooks for him and plays the good wife. Youand me both know that I’m not that kind of woman.”
“Neitheris Belle! Which is why he fancies her! So what makes you different?”
“I’ma huntress, LeFou. Belle and me are completely the opposite of each other. If she’s his type then I’m most certainly not.”
“She’s beautiful. That’s why she’s his type. And do I need to remind you of your beauty?”
Yousighed and turned around to face your friend, smiling a little, thenhugging him.
Inthe meantime, Gaston gave up for today in chasing Belle andapproached the two of you.
“Whyif it isn’t my two best friends. How are you today?” he clappedLeFou on the back, which made him break the hug. “Is something thematter, (Y/N)?” he almost looked worried.
Yougave him a small reassuring smile and shook your head.
“Ofcourse not,” you looked up when you heard your father call yourname and gave both of the men in front of you an apologizing look.“Forgive me. I hope you two enjoy your day.”
Thenyou ran over to your father and the two of you went into the woodsfor your hunting business.
“(Y/N)?You know that I love you, right?” he said after a few minutes.
Youlooked up to your father and smiled. “Of course, father. Why?”
“There is this.. man, who would like to get to know you a little. He askedme for my permission and I think you two would be quite the match.”
Thatmade you stop in your tracks.
“What?!”
“Thisisn’t a marriage proposal, (Y/N). He’d merely like to meet you. Ithought it’d be a good idea. You won’t be this young forever, youknow?”
Youlet out a breath. “I can’t believe you’ve done this!”
“Well, you can be angry all you want, I invited him to hunt with us soyou’ll meet him soon anyways.”
Hecontinued walking and you stared after him with a flabbergastedexpression.
Youcollected your thoughts, then stormed after him, about to give it tohim straight, but suddenly stopped when you saw the man next to him.
Sooner than you’d expected.
Hesmiled and took a step towards you.
“Youmust be (Y/N). Your father has told me all about you and your skills.I’ve never heard of a female hunter before, to be honest.”
“I’mthe only one around.”
“Ilike that. You’re different. Something special,” he leaned in for that last sentence and winked.
Youhad to try really hard not to roll your eyes, but instead tookanother good look at him.
Hecertainly wasn’t ugly and the way he was holding his weapon and hisgear he brought seemed like he knew what he was doing.
Whilehe introduced himself, your father had wandered off deeper intothe woods, leaving you and the man alone.
You ended up hunting together for the day, talking about all sorts ofthings.
Yousoon realized that he was more interesting and open than you thoughthe’d be and found yourself liking him at the end of the day. Whichwasn’t something you had expected to happen.
Whenyou both walked back into the village together, your thoughts driftedoff to a certain man in your life.
Maybeit was time.
Youhad been pining after Gaston for so long and he’d never share thosefeelings you had. So you could either wallow in self pity for the restof your life, be alone and hunt, or find someone else and try to fallin love once more.
“(Y/N)?”you looked up when he spoke your name and found yourself in front ofthe tavern. You’ve been so lost in your thoughts that you didn’t evenremember the last few minutes you walked to the tavern.
“Forgiveme.. What did you say?”
“Iwas wondering if you were hungry? We could eat something..”
“Ofcourse. I’m starving.”
Yousmiled and he held open the door for you.
The two of you sat down at an empty table in the corner of the tavern.
Foranother couple of minutes, you continued to talk and ordered what youwanted, before Gaston realized you were here. Then he realized that youweren’t alone. And that’s when something in him snapped.
Hequickly strolled over to your table.
“(Y/N).There you are. I was wondering when you’d be back,” without aninvitation, he grabbed a chair and pulled it up beside you and pressed kiss on your cheek.
“Gaston, this isn’t a good time,” your voice was low, trying to make thisless embarrassing than it already was.
“Why,won’t you introduce us? Who is this?” he turned towards the man in your company.
“Thisis Jasper. A hunter. Jasper, this is Gaston, my..-”
“..-the most important person in her life,” he grinned confidently.
“Gaston!Stop!”
Jasperkept looking back and forth between you and Gaston.
“What’sgotten into your head?” you asked.
“Idon’t know what you mean, love,” he pushed a strand of hair out ofyour face. “But I think you should end this charade now and tellthis child to leave. You need a man, after all. Not a boy.”
Jasperstood up, challenging Gaston with a single look. Gaston did the sameand stood up just as quickly.
Yourhands covered your face, not believing what was actually happening, but deciding to keep out of it.
If two men wanted to find it was better to stay out of it. Especially when Gaston was one of the men. You’ve learned that lesson when you were very young and tried to go between him and another boy. At the end you had a huge cut on your lip.
“It’stime to leave, Jasper,” he said his name with so much spite.
“That’snot up for you to decide. (Y/N) and I were enjoying ourselves untilyou disturbed us.”
“She’s with me, do you understand?” he took another step towards Jasper, now being so close to him that his words were a dangerous threat.
Nowyou looked up.
“That’sher decision,” now both men turned around to look at you, puttingyou on the spot right there and then. The entire tavern was lookingat the scene by now. You stammered a few words out, then decided toflee. This was too much and you didn’t know how to handle it.
                                                            ***
Yousat on the hill behind your father’s hut and watched the sunset, trying to think about everything that happened today. And the reasons behind it.
Whywould Gaston act like that all of a sudden?
You had never seen him like that. So.. possessive of you.
“Jasperis trying to find you as well. But he doesn’t know you as well as I do,” he grinned, proud of himself for immediately knowing where you were.
Thistime, you did roll your eyes.
Hesat down next to you on the grass.
“Congratulations,Gaston,” you looked down to your hands. “He’s quite nice, youknow? And it’s not like I agreed to marry him. We just met today.”
“He’snot right for you. You deserve someone better than him.”
Youdidn’t answer, just turned your head to your left so he wouldn’t seethe tears in your eyes.
Buthe knew you too well and softly placed his hand under your chin, turning your face towards him.
“Whyare you doing this?” your voice was barely even a whisper.
“What?”
“Ruiningthis for me.”
Hiseyebrows drew together in confusion.
“Well,I..-”
“No,Gaston. I want the truth. You can play the confident prick witheveryone else, but not with me. We know each other too long for youto do that to me.”
Hetried to find an answer to your question, but couldn’t.
He couldn’t even explain it to himself.
But the moment he saw you with that man, everything inside of him screamed.
Soinstead of answering, he simply acted and leaned down until his lips met yours.
Youwere surprised, but didn’t move away.
Aftera second, you let out a breath and closed your eyes, starting to enjoy the feeling ofhis lips on yours.
Oncethe kiss was over he pulled back a little to look at you.
“Ithink that’s why I’m doing it,” his hand went from your chin toyour cheek and he looked into your beautiful eyes, which looked soradiant in the light of the sunset. “My god.. You’re so beautiful.Have I ever told you that before?”
Youhad to laugh a little at that last statement.
“No.You haven’t. You’ve been saying it to Belle for the past years.”
“AndI never saw what was right in front of me until someone else almosttook it away from me.”
Youcouldn’t hold the eye contact any longer, so decided to simply throw yourarms around his neck and hug him tightly. His arms went around your waist, pulling you close to his body and inhaling your scent.
Suddenly the only woman that seemed to matter were you. All thoughts of Belle were erased from his mind.
Youdidn’t know what the future held, but you were glad you had decided tospend the day with Jasper. Otherwise the talk you just had withGaston would never have happened..
