Off Collister and Laight streets, NYC, August 16, 1994
"I recall doing a photo shoot with a major music magazine. Jeff and I met the photographer on Hudson Street, south of Houston, down near where the club Wetlands used to be. We all ducked into a good-sized size alley. The photographer set up. Jeff had brought a boom box and was playing the the new Grifters album and just enjoying himself. He was singing along, jumping over fire hydrants. Dancing around, giving the photographer some cool, fun shots and having a great time. After a while, the photographer asked, 'could you stop moving around please?' Then, 'could you stand here? Could you squat down? Could you hunch over a little?' And that was the shot that ran. Jeff looking withdrawn, sad. An entirely staged-directed shot that had nothing to do with how he was feeling or how he'd been acting when left to his own devices."-Howard Wuelfing, from 25 Years Of Grace
