I Love NY. Un icono de casi 50 años Corría el año 1977 cuando Milton Glaser recibió el encargo de diseñar un símbolo que permitiera promocionar el turismo en la Gran Manzana. Eran años difíciles, en los que la ciudad atravesaba una grave crisis financiera y registraba un alarmante índice de criminalidad. En contraposición a este turbio contexto nació el famoso I Love NY. El emblema era perfecto. Limpio, amable, sencillo. Inmediatamente, el estilo pop y desenfadado del nuevo icono no tardó en quedarse grabado en el imaginario colectivo. I Love NY es uno de los mejores ejemplos de marca de ciudad existentes hoy. Ha sido el símbolo de la ciudad durante casi 50 años, como un emblema querido por los propios neoyorquinos y visitantes foráneos. ¿Por qué cambiarlo entonces? Si funciona, ¿por qué cambiarlo? Las autoridades de Nueva York han decidido llevar a cabo una nueva campaña que busca impulsar el turismo en la Gran Manzana después de tres complicados años de pandemia. Y para ello, se ha visto en la tesitura de tener que sustituir el icónico emblema diseñado por Milton Glaser, I Love NY. En realidad, no es un cambio radical. Más bien se trata de una modificación del logotipo original de Glaser. Una evolución de lo individual —yo— a lo colectivo —nosotros—. El objetivo principal es hacer una campaña de movilización a todas aquellas personas que aman Nueva York para dar a conocer lo que hace única a esta ciudad y revitalizarla en todos los sentidos. Sistema de emojis La comunicación gráfica de la campaña se apoya en el uso de los emojis. Dado el carácter internacional de una ciudad, con cientos de idiomas, se ha considerado que estos símbolos internacionales son entendidos en cualquier tipo de cultura. La agencia independiente Founders Agency se ha desarrollado una colección de emoticonos representativos de la ciudad. this account feels like a long time coming...

Hello to friends old and new!

A little introduction for those who don't know me already:

My name is Cat

I'm 30 years old

I live on Long Island in New York and have done so for most of my life (except for a few years away at college near Seattle)

I have a boyfriend named Rob who you will see as an always reluctant participant in photos to come

I work in healthcare although hopefully for not too much longer

I've been to 31 states and 4 countries outside of the US

I'm an avid movie goer (once a proud card-carrying member of Moviepass) and a massive New York Yankees and New York Rangers fan

A quick story to go along with this intro:

I'm going to take you all the way back to the year 2010 for a moment. I had just graduated high school and decided to stay home and attend my local community college for a myriad of reasons, but I was the only one. All of my friends went far away for school and I was left sad, alone, and in desperate need of a new way to fill my abundant time outside of work and school.

...Thus begins our story...

I grew up mid-Island (Mineola), meaning not directly next to a beach, but my now since passed Grandmother lived in Manhasset and I grew up with a real love for the North Shore of Long Island with it's rocky beaches, historic mansions and views of Manhattan. Late at night, I would go on drives to Sands Point, Port Washington, King's Point, Glen Cove; all just looking for a place to park my car, stick my feet in some sand and stare off at the Manhattan skyline and contemplate my next steps. Eventually, some of my friends decided to leave their schools and return home to Long Island also and I began bringing them to these now sacred spots so we could contemplate together. We began adventuring in the daytime as well and posting pictures to our old Tumblr accounts and personal Instagrams and overtime, we began to garner a bit of a reputation in the area. I became known to people I didn't even personally know as a person who had a detailed list if you wanted a recommendation on where to go for a nice walk on Long Island.

Fast forward TWELVE YEARS! and I still live here on the Island, but I've broadened my horizons a bit. I began dating a guy from Westchester four years ago (who will just be referred to as "reluctant Bigfoot model" when featured as he hates being photographed but is now my consistent adventure buddy whether he likes it or not), which means my list has expanded exponentially for Long Island but also includes Westchester and the surrounding areas as well.

I've traveled a ton over the past twelve years. Some of the pictures above are from California, Wyoming, Washington, Illinois, Montana, Utah and Alaska, and of course, good old New York! Hopefully these travel chops can lead to some good stories and some good tips for you!

I really hope you follow along, feel free to ask any questions, shoot over any recommendations, and if you ever want more info on a place, this is the place to be.
