🖊 + Ian!
Thank you for the ask, and the chance to talk about Ian! He's the only main character of a work who's been requested so far.
While the love interests and other major roles in my novel WIP "Apricots" are extremely important -- to the point I might end up making saidove interests into co-mains -- Ian Ward is ultimately the protagonist of this story.
Ian is, at almost all times, equal parts calm and completely panicked. His girlfriend, having literally read his mind as a telepath, has described him as a duck: floating along peacefully on the surface, but actually paddling desperately under the water. He's managed every crisis in his life so far by relying on that calm exterior to calm others down so he can have room to think. This approach has been used for everything from his demi/bi/polyam crisis when he fell for the people who would eventually become his partners to his magic-has-proven-alternate-timelines-exist-and-I'm-in-one existential crisis.
On top of being more anxious than he seems, Ian is also more romantic and theatric when he's in love than anyone would guess -- excluding his actual partners, who've been the recipients of his over the top gestures in the past. He only gets this way when he's truly comfortable, so not many other people see this side of him. He's very loving, and doesn't go out of his way to be mean to anyone. That said, he does have an impatient nature and can let his racing thoughts lead him to act before he's actually figured out the best course of action. He has a bit of a temper that's triggered when this happens, and a deep dislike of (most) people who bring out that impatience in him.
As for his actual main character role, he has a strong sense of duty and despite his impatience he'll see almost anything through once he's committed himself to something. He's really the ideal person to carry out his particular hero's quest to prevent his girlfriend's murder. He just needs to ground himself with a good anchor to stay steady along the way. His anchor of choice being a warm drink, usually apricot tea.
