My parents found out about the present I bought myself for my birthday. I worked my max hours to afford it. I had it shipped to my bfs house so they wouldn't see it. Apparently I missed a receipt that was hidden in the box. Idk how they got it anyway cause I put the box out with the trash/recycling. My mom was being so cruel about it and how I keep buying myself "lavish" gifts (most stuff I buy for fun is like $10-$50 max). I always plan my purchases and have never missed a credit card payment. Most of my money goes towards doctors visits, medication, car maintenance and gas, accessibility items/ergonomic stuff, cat food and litter, and hygiene. Recently I stopped most of my subscriptions save for a cheap minecraft server. The bulk of my pay goes into savings which have really grown since I got my raise. I also give my parents $400 in rent each month. I'm trying to save up for a recliner to replace my bed but I don't want to use the money I've already put away.

Like ok, maybe I'm not mr.frugal. maybe i sometimes buy more expensive things because they're more convenient (like already cut vegetables/fruit or preprepared meals) but like my hands fucking hurt and sometimes I don't have the spoons to feed myself. Maybe I fall prey to impulse purchases once in a while. Im learning and I'm trying to learn how to budget bc now I have to also pay for insurance until I can get on medicaid.

My mom acts like I don't care. She sees amazon packages come for me and think theyre all toys or expensive skincare or junk when its actually body wipes for when I cant shower/so i dont come back from the field to the office all stinky. Its a trash can I can keep on my bedshelf so I dont throw trash onto the floor instead. Its knee braces because my knees fucking suck. Once in a while Ill see something on sale that ive been wanting for a while and will grab it. And the most expensive skincare I use is $20 for a jar that lasts me 3 months. I have to keep my skin clear or ill pick and have scabs and blood all over my face again. I spend money on drag because it MAKES me money. Last time I got paid $100 from the venue and $50 in tips. One time I got paid $300 from the venue (i dont remember how much in tips).

Im trying my best. Im working with 3 government agencies rn to get a job and get health coverage. Im working my ass off at my job when i probably shouldnt be working (my mom laughed when I mentioned this). I'm constantly doing things to earn me money or to make life a bit less painful. Even streaming is a desperate attempt to make a career/side gig out of something I enjoy and doesn't make me flare up. I only watch shows when im with my bf or when im doing chores or working. I rarely play video games. When I flare I lay in bed and scroll Tumblr or play a mindless dress up game where I only have to move my thumb. I cry almost everyday. I cry on the way to work. I cry holding my cat in so much pain i cant move.

The only big frivilous purchases I've made is the present and a new graphics card (I haven't replaced my old one in a decade). The present cost $230 and the graphics card cost $800. Both of these I saved for. I might buy a nice skirt once in a while but thats pretty much it. I also spread out big purchases over time when I can.

Am I spoiled? Maybe. Maybe my parents are right and I'm a lazy spoiled kid who just makes excuses. But my pain is real, constant, and severe.

I have friends who's birthday presents consist of trips to fucking italy or the bahamas. Who complain when their parents drag them on yet another international vacation. Some are amazing people who are grateful and work their asses off. And some of them are a bit entitled. My mom said most 26 year olds are living on their own with jobs and I fucking laughed. The only 26 year olds with their own apartments especially in my area either have 5 roommates in a 2 bedroom shithole, got lucky and have a high paying tech job, their parents pulled strings to get them hired, or their parents are paying partly or fully for their apartment.

And when i tried to find an apartment? She discouraged me and told me id never be able to afford one (correct) but now im suddenly able to when it suits her argument? Ive been heavily job hunting for over a year and got ONE interview who ghosted me after two interviews. I make $2k MAX. Rent in my area is $1700-2500 for a freaking studio. The $1700 one doesn't let you see the apartment and gets snapped up immediately. And these are all apartments within a 2 hour radius. All the "affordable housing" is for people 55 and older.

Like I literally have no options. I can't move until I get a job in that area. I can't leave the country cause Im disabled and also thats fucking expensive. My bf makes less than me and even combined we couldn't afford a place.

Literally, I've never been suicidal before. Ive never struggled with that due to my fear of death. But all of this? Ive recently had suicidal thoughts and its fucking scary. Thoughts that killing myself would make it easier for everyone else. That it would be easier to just end it, that life will always be a living hell and i should just give up. And thats fucking scary! I shouldn't have those thoughts! But that's how bad it is.

I try to do what my therapist told me. I try to set boundaries. But setting a boundary means not eating dinner bc I leave when my parents yell at me. I try to think positively and ignore the pain. I probably walk an average of 1-2 miles a day. I try and try and try and it hurts so much. They can't be proud of me? For even big victories? Guilting me about graduation cause I took too long. Keeping a job for more than a year (its not a REAL job cause its hourly and doesnt have benefits).

Like what's the point? I've been fighting and fighting and most of the world wants to see me dead and gone anyway. I'm trying to work in a field that doesn't even consider people like me. If I cant work Ill just bring my boyfriend and my family down. Every step forward I manage to take I get dragged back 10.

Im so tired and ashamed and stressed and my fucking body hurts worse now because of the stress and i just dont want to wake up tomorrow.

The Evolution of Trends

Fashion has always reflected society and current events, and it continues to do so now. Clothing has been used to make a statement about who you are and what you believe in throughout history.

Hippie Style

Hippies wore long, loose-fitting garments made of natural materials. Space-age geometric patterns in brilliant colours, shift dresses, and coloured tights became fashionable at the time.

In the 1970s, exotic fabrics and bell-bottom jeans were worn by both men and women and this replaced the loose-fitting hippy clothing of the 1960s. Hemlines continued to rise, while hot pants remained fashionable, reflecting the decade’s colourful flair. Longer hemlines from mid-calf to ankle-length were also worn. Women paired their trousers or skirts with peasant-style blouses, particularly those with off-the-shoulder necklines and lace trim. With this trend, embroidered garments became particularly fashionable. Bright patterns and form-fitting clothing were popular throughout the disco era, and they were supposed to show off the body.

The Punk Movement

In the 1980s The punk movement was an outpouring of rage in response to the economic and political circumstances of the period. Designers like Vivienne Westwood and bands like the Sex Pistols fueled this trend. Dr. Marten and steel-toed army boots, chains, tartan patterns, and bondage pants were popular among punks. During this time, punks put a greater emphasis on their hair, colouring, teasing, and chopping it into asymmetric styles that defied gravity.

Heavy eyeliner was experimented with by both women and men. Neon colours, jelly shoes, tight jeans, leggings, leg warmers, and oversized sweaters were worn by the women. For both sexes, menswear-inspired outfits became trendy. Men wore 'power suits,' which were so named because of their high cost, which made them a reflection of the wearer's wealth. Big shoulder pads were used on women's jackets to make the shoulders appear higher and larger, similar to the male body figure. Acid-washed jeans or parachute pants, jean jackets, polo shirts with the collar up, high-top sneakers, and loose blazers with the sleeves pulled up were among the other fashion trends. During the 1980s, sports shoes grew increasingly valuable, both in terms of price and popularity.

Grunge Style

This era was heavily influenced by bands like Nirvana, Nine Inch Nails and Marilyn Manson. Rock concert tee shirts were worn under plaid flannel shirts, jeans, and long, greasy hair during this period. Both men and women wore overalls with one or both shoulder straps unhooked. The goth fashion trend emerged from the punk style of the 1870s and 1980s, which featured black clothing, black boots, and studded bracelets.

Women wore babydoll dresses and spaghetti-strap slip dresses over tee shirts, especially with thigh-high stockings. They began to get navel piercings at the same time when belly shirts with exposed midriffs were trendy. Chunky platform shoes with layers of rubber soles that made the wearer appear taller. As hip-hop got more popular, jeans became baggier, frequently in boldly dyed shades like red or green. Men began to sag their pants, wearing them baggy and below the hips.

21st Century Fashion

There are still movements that happen in todays world that people wear certain clothing pieces for to make a statement but In the 21st Century we see trends from the past being reused all the time. A few years ago fashion trends like the hippie, punk and grunge style all came about because of different beliefs and movements that people stood for at the time. You were able to be identified by what you wore. In the 21st Century this is still somewhat true but in my opinion, when certain styles like the ones i've listed above are reused they don't hold the same weight or value as they did at the time. There is nothing new under the sun so we see the same trends recycled all the time with just a little added twist.

In recent years I think the trends being made are usually by celebrities and influencers which are being catered more towards the fast fashion side of things. The clothing holds no value and has no meaning and is just worn to be worn. The fashion trends of today make you more body aware as it's mostly all tight fitted dresses with unnecessary cut out pieces of fabric in different places.

The trend I have decided to go with for my lookbook is the grunge romance forecast within creative reset. The trend forecaster Sara Maggioni, described creative reset with - Creative Reset champions design ingenuity as a force for positive change, resulting in expressive styles made from deadstock materials and recycling, and thoughtful pieces rooted in innovation and versatility (Maggioni, 2022). Grunge Romance definitely communicates expressive styles, it is unconventional but still sexy.

The concept of Grunge Romance is tapping into the emotional rollercoaster and chaos collectively experienced in recent times, this story fuses emo, noir and grunge with romanticism. It builds on the success of the bodycon silhouettes, cutouts and skin-revealing styles (Maggioni, 2022). The key words of the trend being chaos, nior, subversive and sexy.

Change of pace in the Queen's closet: why Letizia is now betting on small Spanish brands

During the summer the national firms blessed by the 'Letizia effect' have multiplied. Having her approval gives them a global impact, in addition to being able to sell out everything that she puts on. Why have she decided to show her support now?

Small, young, niche, of medium price and of Spanish production. The firms that have appeared in Queen Letizia's looks this summer share attributes that are increasingly valued by the fashion consumer but which, until now, had appeared discreetly and timely in the royal wardrobe. Except for some concessions – such as a dress by the Sevillian guest brand Cherubina that she wore a couple of years ago –, never before had Doña Letizia given such prominence to small Made in Spain brands. Although she has long since left the 'Varelismo' in the background and began to open up to new names in national and international fashion, including large chains such as Uterqüe or Massimo Dutti, the recent and repeated choice of labels such as María de la Orden, Galcon, Dear Prudence, Lola Li, On Atlas or Macarena Shoes marks a turning point. And it comes at a time when it can be interpreted as a message of support for a national fashion industry hit by the pandemic.

This is how Sara Escudero, an expert in analyzing her looks and founder of the successful Instagram account Letizia, de princesa a reina, considers it. This was what happened, for example, with the white blouse and pants set that she wore a few weeks ago during the opening ceremony of the Arco art fair. “It sold out very quickly, that same day. We immediately got to work to replace it and thanks to the fact that the entire production process takes place within a radius of less than 25 km from our studio, it was available again after three days", they detail from On Atlas, a responsible sustainable Galician brand design. The story repeats itself in the rest of the labels blessed by the 'Letizia effect'. The young designer María de la Orden confirms by email that the Capri model, a blue and white striped dress that Her Majesty wore in Mallora, "is practically sold out" and for Galcon, a fashion firm that opened its doors this year , the navy blue skirt and blouse set that Letizia wore has already become their best seller. “We cannot imagine a better showcase for our designs. We must bear in mind that we went on the market very recently and this has put us on the map," says Pilar González Alcón, designer and co-founder of the brand.

The person responsible for all these choices is her stylist, Eva Fernández. "She's the one who acts as a filter between the Queen and the fashion brands. She is in charge of choosing the outfits that she considers that Doña Letizia may like, although then it is the Queen herself who makes the final decision and combines them with the rest of the accessories,” says Escudero. Eva, who was part of the team of stylists of Cosmopolitan magazine before meeting Letizia and starting to work for her, remains in contact with national brands, visits the showrooms and attends the events that communication agencies carry out to present the collections to the press. It is there that she records many of the outfits that the Queen later wears. "It was her stylist through our communication agency who chose the two models of espadrilles that she has worn this summer", confirm from the artisan footwear brand Macarena Shoes. On other occasions, Fernández buys online the designs that she considers appropriate for each occasion. "It was very exciting to receive an order like this," Galcon says.

As an anonymous source who works in a well-known fashion communication agency told S Moda, sometimes it is Eva Fernández who contacts them to request a piece that the Queen may like. Others are the brands who try their luck by sending her their creations. "One day we sent her a leather bag from a national firm and she liked it so much that she put it on. Again, however, we did the same with a clutch from another brand and she returned it to us making it clear that she thought it was beautiful, but she was not going to be able to put it on for protocol reasons. I also know that the Queen does not accept gifts and she always insists on paying,” explained the source.

On certain occasions, brands even design special models for her. This is the case of Lola Li's wrap dress that she wore in 2019 and that she repeated a few days ago. "We were commissioned by her stylist and for us it was an incredible surprise because we are quite a different pattern from the ones she usually wears," they detail from the brand. The appearance of the outfit, they assure, gave them great repercussion and visibility both inside and outside our borders. "Her style followed all over the world and, in our case, her choice marked a before and after, for which we are enormously grateful. When she put it on, we reached saturation levels on the web that we had never reached before. The white model was made exclusively for her so it could not be bought, but it sold very well in other colors," they say.

She also underlies a message of commitment to the environment, sustainability and crafts. Investigating the philosophy of all these labels, it is easy to conclude that their choice is not accidental or due solely to aesthetic criteria.

María García Alonso-Lamberti, founder of On Atlas, highlights the use of 100% natural, recycled or ecological fabrics of European origin in all her creations. “We avoid the use of polyester and plastic even on buttons, zippers, shoulder pads and trimmings in general. This makes the process much slower and more complicated, but essential in our approach”. Some values that, added to the limited and close production and competitive prices (none of the outfits chosen by the Queen exceeds 200 euros), are similar and extensible to the rest of the brands recently incorporated into her wardrobe. You could even say that they share a taste for timeless Mediterranean-inspired creations. "In Spain we have a lot of national talent, artisans who have worked for several generations and, of course, top quality raw material. Spanish brands still have a lot to say and Doña Letizia makes it clear that we have nothing to envy the fashion of other places", they conclude from Macarena Shoes.

8:00 am.

The ringing of my alarm clock wakes me from my sleep. I grab my phone and scroll through the notifications. I look at the time and decide to get my nails done today, I call all my girl friends and ask if they want me to set an appointment for them to. Carly, Corinna and Erin agree, Natalie and Mariah were busy at the moment. I text them to meet at the apartment and call the nail salon. Thankfully they were open for 2 manicures, 2 full sets, and 4 pedicures.

I hop in the shower and rinse off before starting to do some simple makeup. Instead of my usual falsies I just curl my lashes and put some mascara on. I get dressed in a light blue tank top, a white cropped cardigan, and black yoga flared yoga pants with my white Air Forces. I went to the front door and unlocked it so Corinna and Erin could walk right in. I made some coffee and some tea for myself. After about 15 minutes Corinna and Erin showed up. Carly finished getting ready and we hopped into my car. Carly and Erin started vlogging while I quietly sang along to the music.

We finally got there and checked in. I showed the nail technician the photo, I got a medium length coffin shape with a glitter ombre. After about 2 hours our nails were finally done and we headed to get lunch with Nat, Zane, Todd, and Jeff. We grabbed a table at Olive Garden. Jeff “coincidentally” chooses the seat next to me. Jeff and I had always been touchy with each other, so it was no surprise when he instinctively puts his arm around my shoulder. I still felt bad about the other night, but I was fed up and drunk.

“I’m sorry for being an asshole. I understand that it was sort of a dick move to kiss you while I was drunk” I whisper, he looks at me in surprise and smiles

“I got my girl back” He exclaims, hugging me tightly as I laugh

We eat our lunch in relative peace, a few loud moments here and there. After lunch with everyone we decide to head to David’s house. Jeff, Carly, Corinna and Erin came in my car. We drove to David’s house blasting music with the windows rolled down. Our 20 minute journey ended and I parked my car. Corinna, Carly, and Erin exited to give Jeff and I some time to talk.

“Listen I’m sorry about snapping at you last night. I was drunk and upset. I didn’t mean to be such an asshole. But please talk to me as soon as I put you in a situation that makes you uncomfortable. I just hate being ignored, especially by you. Do you forgive me?” I ask, holding my hands out and he quickly hugged me

“You’re right. I should’ve talked to you. It was unfair of me to leave you hanging” Jeff replies, pressing a kiss to the top of my head

“Now, I got my dick grabbers done. Let’s test it” I joke, his loud laughs ring through my car as I unbuckle my seatbelt

The two of us enter the house and Jeff quickly runs to David to tell him what I said. I knew from the wide smile slowly making it’s way across David’s face. He grabs his camera and quickly runs to me.

“Sage why are you so horny all the time? And please tell me you don’t actually call your nails dick grabbers.” He says, I shove my hand in the camera and laugh loudly

“I’m only horny for Jeff get it right bitch” I reply sassily, David laughs loudly and walks away to film some other bets

“Maybe I should make my own channel” I joke, Corinna quickly whips around and screams

“YES PLEASE!! YOU CAN UPLOAD COVERS AND EVERYTHING. I WANNA BE YOUR FIRST SUBSCRIBER” she yells, catching everyone’s attention

“I’ll literally buy you a camera right now” David says, my eyes go wide and I quickly nod

We all pile into our cars and run to Best Buy. David and all our friends walk me through everything. I grab a Canon EOS M50 camera and a tripod for now. I had music equipment at the apartment. David pays for my things as my friends endlessly talk about what kind of videos I should make. Ranging from get ready with me, vlogs when I go to the studio, covers, styling videos, and the occasional challenge. I choose to start with one cover, one get ready with me, and one vlog a week. All our friends offered to teach me everything having to do with running a successful YouTube challenge. We clear the podcast room and have a makeshift recording session. I quickly scroll through my phone and find a song. ‘Gut Feeling’ by Ella Mai ft. H.E.R

“I’m literally speechless because I forget you can sing” Todd comments, my friends clapping

“Private gig! Private gig!” Zane chants, I roll my eyes playfully and put my playlist of my favorite songs on shuffle

After singing for my friends for about 15 minutes we decide it’s time to get ready to go out. David thought it would be a good idea to kill two birds with one stone today, throw a party for me to celebrate me signing with a label and getting content out of our dumbasses. The girls and I squeeze into my car and head to my apartment to get ready.

“Oh my god Corinna I’m so fucking you tonight” I say, watching her try on one of my dresses

“Good, I’ve been alone for too long” she replies, I wink at her and pick out an outfit for Natalie while Carly and Erin raid Carly’s closet

“Nat this is so perfect for you” Corinna compliments, I agree with a nod and go to pick an outfit

I settle on something a little more comfortable since I’m pretty known to blackout easily. I decide on a red spaghetti strap crop top, a white pleated skirt, and my red and white old school Vans with a slightly oversized leather jacket. Natalie, Corinna, and I work on our hair and makeup. I decide on my usual look with my hair in a ponytail. After about an hour we head back to David’s to pregame.

We take shots and I’m pretty tipsy by the time we all get in David’s Tesla. I find my seat on Jeff’s lap. We loudly sing along to David’s music on the way to the club. We all get in and head to the section that David got us. Zane, Toddy, and I instantly gravitate towards the bottles already there. The loud music making me ready to act a fool for David’s vlog. After another three rounds of shots I become one with the music.

“Where the fuck am I?” I joke loudly, somehow I ended up on the floor while Zane danced on me and I smacked his ass

“Ow you bitch” He slurs, I laugh and Todd helps me off the ground

“OHH SAGE” Corinna yells, and there it is.. the familiar beat to ‘Back That Azz Up’

Corinna instantly gets behind me while I twerk on her. Everyone in our section forming a circle. I spot Natalie on the couch and I walk over to her before giving her a lap dance. David films her reaction while Jason hands her a bunch of singles. She throws it on me while I dance. The mixture of alcohol and music making me lose myself. The song ends and I’m a little sad. Although the universe instantly answers my prayers and I hear the beginning to ‘Panoramic’. This time I decide to dance with Jeff.

“You ready bub?” I ask, he looks at me nervously

“Huh? Oh my-” Jeff replies, I bend over and start dancing again

After a few seconds he quickly finds himself dancing with me as best as he can. Our friends scream as he gains confidence. He pulls me up by my neck, leaving a hand there as he pours the vodka in my mouth. I swallow and turn so Corinna can grind on me. I feel someone behind me and turn to see Natalie. The three of us forming a chain. Which we keep up depending on the song. After two hours David taps me on the shoulder

“Alright guys, let’s go back to my place. It’s getting a little stuffy in here” I nod and hand Jeff my things

I find myself in the passenger seat. Never a good thing in David’s vlogs. Somehow Zane had walked out with a full bottle of vodka and we were all passing it around. Before driving David turns his camera on and I’m too drunk to listen to reason

“David.. I’m so drunk” I yell above the music, he laughs and turns the camera so I’m more in view

“Is there anything we should ask Sage since I think she’s the most drunk here” David says, turning the music down as our friends fall quiet to think

“Sage what are your thoughts on Jeff getting a boner after you danced on him” Mariah asks, I laugh loudly and hiccup

“My thoughts? Head empty, no thoughts” I reply, they laugh and continue asking me questions

“Sage if you were a man for a day what would you do?” Jason asks, also recording me

“Dude I’d honestly try to have a threesome with Natalie and Corinna” I reply, he laughs before replying

“You try to do that now” He says, our friends laughing loudly

The car ride seems like it went on forever. Finally we ended up at David’s house, I quickly run to the fridge and grab water. Wanting to sober up a little bit because I felt too out of control of my body. I chug the water and throw the empty bottle into the recycling bin. Jeff walks over to me and hugs me from behind. I smile lazily and sway to the music David is playing.

“Can we get DoorDash please” I whine, the group instantly nods while Jeff and I walk over to the group

“Get a room you two” Carly jokes, watching me cling onto Jeff while he sat me down

“I fucking wish” I say, quietly sipping my water as Natalie takes everyone’s McDonald’s orders

I decided on a 20 piece chicken mcnuggets with sweet and sour sauce and a Sprite. I blush as Jeff’s hands find themselves on my thigh. It’s no secret that I’m high key attracted to Jeff, but it recently started becoming real that I actually have a crush on my best friend. I realize that all the girls were looking at me and my face turned bright red. They shared looks before pulling me off the couch and taking me outside.

“You have a real fucking crush on Jeff don’t you” Mariah says, the girls crowd around me as I laugh

“I need a fucking joint, yes I do ok” I confess, they scream and jump around and I can already see the guys heading out to see what all the commotion is about

“What’s going on out here ladies?” Todd asks, wrapping his arms around Natalie and Jeff came next to me and thankfully it was pitch black and he couldn’t see the blush spreading across my face

“God I need to smoke so bad what the fuck is wrong with me” I mumble, Jeff hears me and pulls a preroll out of his pocket

“Let’s go, princess” He says, asking our other friends if they want to join, Zane and Todd agree and we sit on the couch outside and smoke a little bit

After we finished the pre-roll I head back over to the girls. We continue talking and they encourage me to talk to him about it. Apparently he has an actual crush on me too. I brush them off the but the substances in my system were giving me too much courage.

“No no... I’ll think about it when I’m sober” I say, they all agree and we go back into the house

“Ok guys I think I’m gonna head out” I say, I had a few more drinks with Zane and Heath so I was back to being drunk and a little high

“You are not driving home like this” Dave says, I nod and look around. Carly left a while ago since her and Erin had a meeting in the morning and I didn’t want to disturb her because I knew I would be loud when I got home

“I’ll take her, I should head out anyways” Jeff replies, I grin and collect my things and grab a water from the fridge for the road

“Can I stay over? I miss Nerf and I can’t go to my apartment since Carly has something important in the morning and I don’t want to disturb her” I say, he nods with a big smile

“Sure thing princess. We’ll stop by the store and grab some makeup remover and face wash” He said, driving to the nearest CVS

After our quick run to the store we finally arrived at his apartment. We got in and I walk over to the fridge and get a water. I hear Nerf’s claws on the floor and crouch down. After petting him for about five minutes Jeff comes out with a shirt and some boxers. I smile gratefully and head to the bathroom.

I take my makeup off and wash my face. I change into the shirt and boxers and head out. I make myself comfortable on the couch while Jeff changes. He walks out and shakes his head

“No, your back and neck are going to be sore. Just share the bed with me” He said, I look at him skeptically but nod

“Finally, thank god I shaved recently” I joke, he laughs loudly as he shuts the door

“I’m not that tired, you wanna watch a movie?” He asks, turning the TV on I nod and let him pick while I make myself comfortable with Nerf

Halfway through the movie I start drifting off, resting my head on Jeff’s chest.

“Goodnight princess” He said, pressing a kiss to my head before turning the movie off

“Goodnight.. I love you” I mumble, not noticing the look on Jeff’s face

Ok but being serious, the recent wave of “catboy” shit where it’s just memes trans women have made (usually reclamatory ones of characters who were themselves transmisogynist caricatures) and then slapping “boy” over it, and the whole dressing the cat”boy” extremely femininely and playing it for jokes (like jerma putting on a skirt, femininely cut shirt, and collar)

it’s just recycled transmisogynist decades old shit with “cat” slapped on it, or it’s taking shit trans women made and slapping “boy” on it. There’s also the aspect of like, we live in a patriarchal society where men are always the default, to the point that people on this site will always call fucking dogs and shit in tiktoks “he,” so it’s always annoying seeing something being done by women and then having men on this app go “why am I not included 😭” and try to rebrand it for themselves. Even any political reasons aside, it’s just fucking annoying.

Why Princess Anne is the most underrated royal

While the rest of the royals are having a bumpy ride, there’s one stylish Windsor who continues to shine, thanks to The Crown, the chignon and the ‘shrug’ that went viral. All hail Anne, our favourite princess

Who is the least likely royal to become a latter-day fashion pin-up? OK, I’ll go. While most royal style stalkers have been preoccupied with homage-to-Diana Instagram accounts and fawning over her Chelsea Harbour Club exits, a dark horse has emerged as the newest Firm favourite. Enter Anne, Princess Royal. I’m serious.

It was the shrug that did it, I think. It spoke to all of us. Picture the scene: your mother, the Queen, is engaging in polite chitchat with Donald Trump, the leader of the free world, and then looks over at you expectantly. Do you: a) laugh, b) run away, c) shrug. Obviously it’s b), followed by a). But then we’re not diplomatic, non-partisan figureheads.

Technically/boringly, when the Queen glanced at “Annie” (as the princess jokingly referred to herself on Parkinson in Australia in 1983), she was looking for more dignitaries to receive after the Trumps. There were none. “Just me. And this lot,” Annie laughed, pointing at the motley crew of well-suited, erm, courtiers (?) behind her. On the internet, of course, everyone decided she was rebuffing the chance to get up close with the Great Orange Leader. Fake news! But let’s wait until series 17 of The Crown to debate the true fiction here.

Later on at the Nato reception at Buck House, her bobbing bouffant was spotted seemingly chuckling away with Justin Trudeau, Boris Johnson and Emmanuel Macron’s apparent high-level international mockery of Trump. Which is surely the tack any of us would take at a dreary standing-around drinks affair — slim pickings with this crowd, but a classy move to position herself with the power players having a laugh.

Anne, princess of the chignon, who celebrates her 70th birthday in August, is fast becoming the royal you can really get behind. She is, against the slew of over-made-up show ponies, a veritable workhorse, clocking up 165 days of engagements last year — the most of any official “working royal” — while the Prince of Wales came second with a doleful 125. This new-found appreciation for the back balcony has come as real life and Netflix collide. (Is any of it true? Do they watch it? I like to imagine the Duchess of Sussex has a dedicated WhatsApp group.) This gentle blurring of reality and fiction has proven to be rather useful for the old Firm, who are now wheeling her out faster than Prince Andrew — banished to indefinite leave — can call in his order to the Woking Pizza Express (La Reine, Your Royal Highness?). There will, pundits tell us, be much more of a to-do for Anne’s 70th than Andrew’s upcoming 60th in February. Awkward.

It is Erin Doherty’s portrayal of Anne in The Crown that has won the princess points in the popularity stakes and a reappraisal of her style. In keeping with our softly ageist appetite for stylish totty, see a round of “Shock, horror — woman looked great in youth!” roundups of her 1970s looks, which, to be fair, have a strong dose of Mrs Prada about them. Her jaunty skirt suits, dinky scarves, flirty shirting, Pucci shiftdresses and geometric prints all feel very on point. Equally woke is her commitment to sustainability. This is, after all, a woman who has “recycled” Ascot ensembles from 40 years back. Yes, Greta.

Then there’s the hair, of course. That magnificent sweeping bouff, as dependable as a khaki wax jacket on a wet Windsor day. I think we can all find something to admire in a woman who at some point in the 1960s perfected backcombing and hasn’t been inclined to bother with another look since. Stoic.

Interestingly, Doherty reports that her homage took a solid hour and a half of backcombing to realise the mighty spherical thatch, although one imagines that Anne has it down to a five-minute quick flick back and pin. I mean, after all this time, you’d hope …

In recent fashion moves, may I direct you to her meme-making Hugh Hefner homage at Meghan and Harry’s wedding (a slightly Dracula-esque wrap dress in mottled red and black, which bore a thrilling similarity to the late Playboy proprietor’s favoured casual attire of a red silk dressing gown). Then there’s her pretty au courant take on beige at Sandringham — her swingy camel coat and knee boots are pleasingly Italian (Max Mara) in spirit.

When playing Anne, Doherty perfected that cool air of being politely unimpressed at all points; while shagging Andrew Parker Bowles, balancing paper hats on a snoozing Queen Mother or even smashing her little brother Edward with a cushion. Alongside a Charles reframed as a sympathetic intellectual, series three of The Crown cements that most cutting lesson for any royal: your very existence is intentionally replaceable — a newer, younger model is never that far behind. Before Meghan and Kate, Diana and Fergie, Anne was the royal fashion pin-up with a common touch that one can’t help but respect. She did the Lindo Wing of St Mary’s Hospital in heels after the birth of her children, but she also refused titles for them. She has never been fooled by a fake sheikh, taken handouts from shady businessmen or run up bills of hundreds of thousands of pounds on Parisian couture. She told a would-be kidnapper, “Not bloody likely”, when he ordered her to get out of the car. If anyone can make the royals great again, the ludicrously coiffed Anne might just be the under-the-radar star the Windsors can rely on.

I’ll be holding out for a replay of the sparky blue shirt and silk neck scarf ensemble (Kiev, 1974), which is straight out of Bottega. You know she still has it in her wardrobe.
