“Under the light of the moon...” “We shall...” “Destroy you!!”
Call me crazy, but RoB's opening gives me the same beat as Sailor Moon's-- it’s probably the key and end note. Well that's 90's anime for you (as is our darling little 90′s anime vampire hunters)... This is the same vampire-hunting anime we're talking about, right?
. . . Because I'm not talking about Knock Turn, I don't like that thing.

Hey, you like Raimundo along with Jack, right? And you're Brazilian. Feel free not to answer this if you don't wanna okay. I just thought you'd be best suited. Like when you commented on the "Rai" nickname.
I'm wondering if you perhaps have any thoughts or headcanons on him, family, hobbies, his inner thoughts, cause I wanna flesh him out for my fic and stuff. I'll give you credit for the ideas of course
even though I'm not that active in the xs fandom currently you've surprisingly come to the right person bc I've rambled a bit about raimundo hcs before to my friends. I had to dig up some discord messages to find all my hcs
I hc raimundo to be white-passing and mixed race, which is like the majority of brazilian ppl tbh. side note: in brazil "race" is defined almost solely by skin color, so like if I left my country it's possible I'd be considered a person of color because of my features, but in brazil I'm considered white. raimundo would be in a similar situation
so in these discord messages past!lucas has said "the only mentions of his background is that he has 8 siblings with a lots of aunts and uncles" and "he mentions that the 'rough' part of rio is his 'element'". now, I, lucas of the present, barely rmr this bc it's been forever ago since I watched xs, but I'm trusting past!lucas on this I think he would never lie to me. based on that I'm a fan of the theory raimundo is an orphan and grew up as part of the lower class. I don't think I ever theorized what the fuck happened to his parents, but I like the idea of him acquiring abandonment issues because of it. since he grew up poor I think he'd also have a lot of survival skills, knowing how to make due with very little, etc.
I actually just thought abt this but it's very uncommon for latino people to only have two names. I myself have four, bc the family names just keep adding on top of each other when u marry instead of being absorbed into the husband's name. so realistically raimundo would probably has at least one other family name
not exactly a hc but something interesting to note about mundo is that he is a good example of something we call a "malandro" in brazil. a malandro is a brazilian concept of a cunning anti-hero who outsmarts, deceives and takes advantage of others, usually for personal gain. describing it like this makes it sound like a bad word, but it has a positive connotation. like culturally being malandro is considered a good thing. we even have a saying that goes like "every day a malandro (in this case a scammer) and a sucker (in this case the one who gets scammed) leave their houses.", implying that if you're not the one taking advantage of others, you're the one being taken advantage of. I don't think this was intentional on the xs writers' part to make raimundo embody these traits so perfectly that r culturally significant to brazil but and I find it interesting.
similar thing to above we also have something called "gambiarra", which is like achieving something through improvised means instead of the "correct" (and usually more expensive) way. also very important to brazilian culture and I think raimundo would be adept in it
#asks#lindendragon#this is all I have. hope that helps#there's a lot I could say about um. languages#like languages he speaks and the way he would speak them but. the thing abt that one is that it's such a complex subject#and it's so often misunderstood how it works by ppl who r monolingual#and it's Reeeeally hard if not outright impossible to accurately write a bilingual character if ur not bilingual urself#and even if you ARE bilingual u have to speak the same languages they do#bc the speech patterns from diff languages r different and they carry over to the newly acquired language but since they're specific#you can't just write them if you don't know what they are#example. in brazil it's really common to use religious expressions like 'oh my god'. like way more common than in other places#I didn't grow up religious AT ALL like I don't know a single prayer#but it's super normal for me to go 'may god hear you' or 'only god knows' or#'holy mary' to express surprise and stuff#english has similar expressions too of course everyone says 'oh my god' and 'holy shit' and 'jesus christ'#but we have MORE of them and we say them MORE often#so bc the way ideas r expressed is unique to every language. if you're not familiar with the language it's near impossible#to accurately write a bilingual character#books and fics where the character randomly speaks another language in the middle of their sentence for no reason#is a pet peeve of mine#bc ok that can happen sometimes but it's so much more complicated than that. there's a lot more things that happen#to the way you express yourself when you're speaking a language that is not your native one#one thing for sure for me who's been fluent in english for about 10 years now . I can say for sure that I fucking hate speaking this langua#I find it restricting. it's inflexible compared to portuguese and I can't express myself as freely as I would like#anw I didn't mean to ramble in the tags abt this HEAHIUWEHAI#thank you for the ask I love raimundo and feel free to ask me more stuff if you have questions#xs#raimundo#raimundo pedrosa#xiaolin showdown

Just curious, Why won’t you write Sylvain and Claude fics?
I've talked about it before from similar asks, here and here! I'd just be regurgitating the same answers basically lol.
#DCB Ask#the basic answer is me rly rly no likey but also the fandom seems to be like#idk obsessed with sexualizing them/the ship? or at least on Twitter and like#it reeeeally made me go from neutral/not caring about it to being icked out about it#it's a combination of ruined by the fandom and me not liking it#like I don't mind them interacting and stuff but as a ship I don't like it#there are other ships I reeeeally don't like and normally wouldn't write#esp in the SK fandom but I'm like. money over preference for the most part#except in a few really specific cases where I'm like. nope sir!#that one is more of just a... in no circumstance do I think I'd be able to write it#like I could technically write for ships I don't like like some of the SK ones yeah I could technically do it#even if I didn't rly prefer to or want to but would for the comm's sake#but for this ship in particular it's one of those iggly wiggly ships you just don't like and#it's this like... I can tell I know I can't write it lol. I don't know if that makes sense fjksgjhgd#Asb31/Ch3r1a is a totally different circumstance tho bc that's a chemistry thing AND like#they totally just paired them in that game bc they were like OH NO THE TWO MAIN MALE CHARS ARE WAAAY TOO CLOSE#THEY MUST BE SEPARATED FROM THE GAY WE MUST NOT ALLOW THEM TO BE TOGETHER#PAIR HIM WITH THE FEMALE HE ARGUES WITH ALL THE TIME AND DOESN'T GET ALONG WITH!#WE MUST DO WHATEVER IT TAKES TO PROVE HE'S DEFINITELY NOT INTO THE GUY HE'S INTO!!!#so that one's like. I hate it AND it left a bitter taste in my mouth

so hc thats probably not real but is fun to think about: what if the spark hunters had a past life as normal rabbids in our world before becoming who they are now, like with the main rabbid characters.
Hi anon! Catching up on asks, I hope it's not too late for you to see this ^_^'
I know some people have AU headcanons of the hunters being pre-existing indivisuals who were recruited by Cursa instead of created. And I can easily see someone new approaching the game and taking a while to get through it, coming up with headcanons for the hunters' lives along the way, only later to find out none of them have actually existed for very long, nor did they have childhoods. Those ideas shouldn't necessarily just be thrown out, and I'm sure a lot of interesting stories could be spun out of those initial misconceptions.
There's definitely some headcanon/fanfic wiggle-room, even with canon information. We know Cursa made them out of rabbid DNA and some other element unique to each of them, with the heavy implication they didn't exist as sentient beings before then. BUT If you reeeeally wanted to stretch, you could imagine that when they refer to being "created", it's that their current forms and personas were created, much like i.e. how I would imagine Phantom would think he was "born" when he became Phantom since he is so far removed from just being a normal rabbid. And I believe it's Jeanie's analysis which reveals they are made from Rabbid DNA and whatever else, and the DNA being picked up in her analysis could mean they were made out of an existing Rabbid, not the isolated genome in abstract.
To be clear, I personally don't think they existed before Cursa made them, but if you wanted to have fun with the idea of them having more parallels to merged rabbids/the heroes, I think you could do that!

""discourse"" shit under cut i just need to vent smth out from posts i've seen
tw talking about zoophilia + pedophilia (necrophilia is mentioned)
I am so fucking sick of this pro-para movement. And I am so fucking scared for the kids and even young adults who are a part of this. And, to an extent (especially the kids), I can't fault them. This is the PERFECT trap for anybody with low self-esteem. Have a disorder that everyone criminalizes you for and wants you dead? of COURSE youre gonna seek out like minded people in a little echo chamber bc it makes you feel good. Still fucking sucks it's as big as it is though.
Tumblr media
when people say "zoo/necro/map dni" or whatever the fuck they mean just that. not just the "offending" ones. You know why? BECAUSE YOURE PROUDLY PROCLAIMING YOU GET OFF TO THINGS THAT CANT CONSENT. This is the BIG issue with "pro-para". I am 100% for more education on these disorders because YES, THEY ARE DISORDERS and they can't be controlled (aka, you can't just "not have it" anymore.) This would make anyone feel alone and alienated. Showing a little empathy and encouraging them to get consoling and not just showing outright hate/seclusion would probably reduce this echo chamber problem steeply bc, again, ppl are doing this mostly bc they don't have anyone else they feel like they can talk to or turn to.
Tumblr media
But the thing is, taking pride in your harmful disorder shows you are PROUD to be this. You are not intent on seeking help. You are interacting with enablers. Even if you're "non offending" but you still have "im a pedo yippie!!!" all over your blog ofc people are gonna block your ass. You should be proud of OVERCOMING your disorder. Be proud of THAT. Be proud of the progress you make to get therapy, to get help, to grow. Also, ppl being proud in their disabilities aren't fucking comparable. Last time I checked being paralyzed in the legs doesn't involve wanting to harm other people.
Tumblr media
This is also a stupid fucking argument. I have never seen a radfem talk about paraphilias. Even if they did, so what?? That does not change the fact that animals & corpses & children cannot consent. That is a scientific fact. This person seems to be talking about a sexual attraction to objects, which while can be considered weird, is overall pretty harmless. When people are "anti pro-para" I can 99% assure you they are not talking about the guy who's reeeeally into shoes. They're talking about the "big three". To most normal people the latex glove lovers & the plushie fuckers are just "fetishists" which isn't an inherently bad thing. You're just kinky.
Also, a paraphilia, by definition, is a sexual attraction, not romantic. This is like those zoophiles who argue "but we fall in love with our pets romantically!!" when really it all comes back to sex. Can there be people who "fall in love" with their pets?? sure. But zoophilia is, first and foremost, a paraphilia, which is a SEXUAL DISORDER.
The thing is, like, I'm so pissed off not just at how gross this all is, but because I SEE WHY IT IS HAPPENING. It is BECAUSE we, as a society, offer little to no education and help to these people. So of course, to feel loved and accepted, they're gonna create an echo chamber with themselves and promote this activity and normalize it. Yeah, I hate pedophilia and zoophilia and etc as much as the next guy, but I also recognize the people who have these disorders didn't ask for it, and I do genuinely feel a level of sympathy that they got dealt such a shitty hand. All of this is NOT an excuse to enter that echo chamber and be "proud" of your disorder. Nor is it acceptable to act like you belong in the LGBT COMMUNITY. That's fucking sick and tears down the hard work our community has done to NOT be associated with pedophilia and the like.
I am especially scared as it is growing, and so more kids are getting groomed and conditioned into this stuff. My fucking blood goes cold everytime I see an AAM(adult attracted minor) because MINORS ARE ATTRACTED TO ADULTS THAT'S NORMAL?????? All those teenage girls crushing over 1D??? their kpop idols????? Justin Bieber??? The middle school boys into Lara Croft???? THIS IS NORMAL. IT'S SO FUCKED UP THAT KIDS FEEL LIKE THEY HAVE TO IDENTIFY AS THAT??? OPENING THEM UP TO PREDATORS???? I know there are likely cases where the kid, for whatever reason, may have a genuine fetish for getting groomed or something, but obviously THEY SHOULD GET HELP.
And I can't help but feel some of this behavior is pushed by internet weirdos who are so fucking anal about anime characters. "You can't be in love with that anime character cuz he's 15!!!" WHEN THE PERSON IN QUESTION IS LIKE. 17???? Also those characters don't age. like, if you liked a 13 yr old character when you were 12 and still like them when you're 19 then like.......r u supposed to just stop. Like it's so fucking asinine and I feel like this purity bullshit in harmless spaces like fiction make kids believe it's wrong to be into ppl in their same age group ? Ooooobviously this pales in comparison to the issue of pedos grooming these kids and pro-para being normalized but i cant help but think it's a factor, if only cuz of personal experience
If you are suffering from a disorder like this, I truly DO feel bad for you. Like, that sucks, and I'm sorry it happened to you. But you can be better than this. You don't have to be the guy who gives in and ruins somebody else's life. You can be better and stronger than that and actually have something to feel PROUD about when you take steps to overcome your disorder.
idfkkkkk it's just been pissing me off as of late.

"Sammy, honestly, you're just amazing. If it wasn't for you, we would never see the surface again. We...we just accepted that we will rot down there until the end of time, but you...you never gave up."
".. The funny thing is... I did."
"What?.."
"I said... I gave up. Back then my... plan was supposed to go differently."
"I... Don't-"
"My plan was to kill everyone."
"...Say sike right now."
"I said what I said, Norman. Turning off the machine was supposed to end our misery. It was supposed to kill us. To set our souls free, if you want to be poetic about it. Back then, when I told the Lost Ones to arm themselves for the revolution against The Ink Demon, when I sharpened my axe like I never did before, when I asked you for your help, I-"
"... You gave up?"
"... Unfortunately. I knew I was leading everyone to their death. I just... couldn't go on and leave you all, you know? I am a leader- a shepherd, if you'd like... If I didn't make that stupid mistake... If I didn't pull the wrong lever, we-"
"You know, I think that's enough. Everything worked out great and now we can live like normal people. Isn't it what everyone wanted? Isn't it what you wanted?"
"You're saying this like it's soooo easy to forgive yourself for wanting to kill everyone and take away our bright future."
"You wanted to do what you thought was best for us."
"And so what? I shouldn't have done it without telling everyone about my real plan. I used them. I used you-"
"I don't care."
"Oh, reeeeally now? You don't have to play tough now, Norman. If you knew I was going to kill-"
"I would still help you."
"Wh-! What? No, Norman, it's not time for jokes and yet it was the most terrible one so far. Don't lie to me."
"I'm not lying. I would still help you with your plan. I... wouldn't mind dying with you, if I'm being honest."
"But...why?"
"Because you mean to me more than my life."
"..Norman, I said it's not the time for jokes-"
"Sammy, it's not a joke. I love you, you self-loathing idiot."

Vinnil headcannons?
Tumblr media
I-I take it you liked the last ones? Or maybe you didn't and hoping that by requesting more I will say something you like 😂 I mean, I'll try :p
that reeeeally depends on my mood but often, I don't want them to have a happy ending. Or rather, I want Vinnie to fall and fall hard, and then be rejected, nicely of course, and then Sunil gets with someone else, anyone, be it Delilah, Russell, Pepper, whoever. And then Vinnie is miserable,
not much would change between them once they become lovers, because of course they were best friends before, so the main thing that changes it just the status quo, though they still by mistake call each other best friends sometimes. Like if let's say Sunil is introducing them he'd be like "I'm Sunil and this is my best friend, V- I mean boyfriend, Vinnie." They're just used to it, it won't immediately settle in their minds overnight no matter how happt they are, you know?
Vinnie is shameless, or rather he looks like he is. But anyway, now Sunil has to deal with that more than ever. Because if Vinnie wants to he will climb on top of a table in public, or start screaming loudly in a mall, or eat super sloppily in a resturant. Stuff like that,
Listen, liSteN, Sunil is the more teasy one, or at least once he gets really comfortable in their relationship. Because Vinnie has a more "cherishing" style of romantic love with Sunil, but once Sunil's comfortable he gets more playful,
of course they still watch horror movies, it's something they have been doing for a long time, but that's also why it's so important. Because they do it still, but differences appear with how close they are, what kinda of cuddling positions they are in, the kisses that appear that of course didn't before. It's important to them,
and although I like Vinnie to be the more protective one (he's normal guuuys, he's just a lil obsessed), Sunil can be too. And when he is, especially if Vinnie is talking with someone who Sunil basically feels bad vibes from, he will simply stand behind him and wrap his arms around his waist, and just stand there. He wouldn't even be passive-agressive or anything, but he would be wary
Aaand I think that's all. Well, those aren't all the headcanons I have for Vinnil techincally, but I'm way too ashamed to share others I have. Because while they are techincally Vinnil headcanons they are heavily Vinnie-centric bc he's my little guy. And literally all of them I think work under the "Vinnie is literally no joke obsessed with Sunil, yes, to the very unhealthy amount" which I know sounds like I want to make him a yandere. Well, you're right, I do vine boom sound. I love making my favourite characters like that and he's no different. But it's also a little bit of cringe for me

ngl, it kinda annoys me when people say that Claude shows an "insincere" side to Dimitri and Edel/gard and say that he's not ever showing his "true" self to them. He's not actually more relaxed around Dimitri or actually antagonistic with Edel/gard, that's just what he's doing to get on the side of them he wants to be on but it's not genuine. He's only (eventually) genuine with Byleth and the GD, no one else.
Like, maybe... just maybe... Claude is just genuinely more relaxed around Dimitri? And genuinely does not vibe well with Edel/gard? And those are his real emotions that he really feels about them? And he shows genuineness to people outside of his default selection of friends? I don't get the need to make literally everything Claude ever does ever with anyone, it makes him so one-note. Let him have different reactions to different people!
Normally I'm actually a lot more chill in my ask replies lol but this is also something that aggravates me.
As a side note here, you can really tell I hate brainless stans in this post, so you can tell I'm aggravated by them lol. Normally my asks are pretty chill when discussing in-universe topics, but since the stans like to warp in-universe content to harass irl people and make shit up to justify their harassment, I don't take that lightly and I'm much more prone to being disgusted by their behavior lol.
The Edelgard side of it:
That's a reeeeally stupid take. Sounds like stans trying to say him and Edelgard are similar, too. They don't have similar goals at all, either. The game tries to say they do because uwu waifu and nobody can truly hate Waifu Emperor, but Edelgard's goals are to conquer Fodlan (by force no less and through loads of murder), and to remove the Church because TWS told her so and they gave her all the information she knows (which is a lot of false information, for that matter).
Claude's goals are to get Almyra and Fodlan to be friends and to get people to stop hating others simply because of where they came from. He didn't trust the Church in the first half of the game, but eventually he did, and he never wanted to just remove the Church. He has other things he believes in, but he also accepts people who believe in the Church in Fodlan (or else he would think Marianne is just scum of the earth tbh).
My biggest pet peeve with all this is that people just make shit up instead of looking at things the way they actually are. Claude doesn't trust Edelgard in Hopes either, on top of what's in Houses, so that's a pretty telling conflict between them. Apparently people view Hopes Claude as more canon than Houses simply because he's "on board" with Mrs. Uwu's murder spree.
The thing is, Claude doesn't vibe well with her because she's too extreme in her methods. He (Houses Claude) can't get behind starting a war and killing so many people for "change" (and the change she wants is only an issue in her country anyway, as I've explained in previous asks/posts). I think it's pretty telling that in CF, if he survives he'll just leave and give her no assistance. She gets his army because as per being the victor in war, she basically owns Leicester and thus the army. He didn't want his people dying by opposing her, so he wanted them to just work with her if they lost. Other than that, he just leaves Fodlan and is never known to return or ever make peace with Fodlan (and why would he at that point? The place will be a dumpster fire and eventual ashes anyway when it gets ganged up on by all its neighbors. Cue Matthias sipping tea watching it happen).
To me, that's not him getting along with her. That's not him pretending to be cold and distant. That's him literally leaving Fodlan and her being like yeah you should leave (which literally did happen, as she says it's for the best that he fucking leave Fodlan because she won the war against him and Byleth spared him).
It's just, plain and simple... they don't get along. Also, prior to Hopes, it wasn't nearly this bad at all with people saying all the nonsense they say now about Claude. There's also the part in GD where Edelgard just walks the fuck up to him in the library and starts demanding he spills his secrets to her, to which even though he'll make a joke out of it if you take her side and not his, if you do take his side you actually get a support bonus by saying he doesn't have to answer to her.
Claude has trouble trusting people, and yet somehow the people you're talking about seem to think whatever emotion he shows toward someone is the real thing. He jokes a lot and acts casual, but that's how he is to literally everyone because that's just how he copes, and that's his barrier between people.
The Dimitri side of it:
Why wouldn't he be more relaxed around Dimitri? Like Claude, Dimitri doesn't want war or fighting. They have the exact same desires and are working toward the same goals. As mentioned above, Edelgard has methods that are too extreme for Claude, but she always has. Dimitri went off the rails but Claude knew who he was before that and believed that Dimitri could see reason.
Taking things from their interactions, I don't see how he's... not more relaxed with Dimitri? With Edelgard they only really have this concept of "you give me something and I give you something to call it even", but with Dimitri there's not any of that. Just because they don't act like best friends at all times and Claude isn't just telling him his whole life story doesn't mean he's not more relaxed.
Even in Hopes, Claude allying with her is full of distrust and suspicion. He doesn't expect things to end very well. When he meets up with Dimitri they're immediately making plans and things are a lot more relaxed because Claude has no reason to think the Kingdom will betray him. The reason AG does the whole "nobody but Dimitri trusts Claude" thing is to give a nod to the other routes, which as I've mentioned before was just stupid because in AG, there's literally negative reason for anyone to distrust Claude.
Just because Claude didn't spill his life story in AM doesn't mean he doesn't trust Dimitri, either. He does, and I'm not gonna go over that again in this ask since I've done so before more than once on other asks/posts, but he doesn't need to be vulnerable to express trust.
Since I know you don't think Claude distrusts Dimitri and all that, I'm not gonna go looking for screenshots to prove to you that he trusts him and is relaxed with him lol, but like... I don't see how he would be more relaxed with Edelgard than Dimitri when Claude is just more similar as a person to Dimitri than he is to Edelgard. Like... that's really all there is to it. You can like Edelgard and Claude both and still accept that they don't get along.
To me it just feels like people are trying make things up so that it benefits Edelgard in some way (re: he's lying about distrusting her but yet somehow his kindness to Dimitri is faked). If you notice, Dimitri is actually nice to her by the end of AM and he ends up wanting to talk to her in AM and AG as well, but the reason her stans hate him so much is because she wants him dead. Whatever she wants is what they see and the only things they accept, and not that, you know, Dimtiri doesn't actually want to kill his step sister and would prefer a peaceful resolution. Edelgard wants to kill him because he's someone in power other than her, and for her that is Unacceptable because how dare anyone be in power in Fodlan besides her!
She uses his mental illness as an excuse that her stans rally around, shitting on him for being "delusional" (re: that's the mental illness, dipshits), and uses that as an excuse to kill him in CF despite that if you don't get the Dedue ending, he outright calls her El (despite her claim that nobody has called her that since her dead siblings, but that doesn't make her stop and think oh hey maybe I should stop for a goddamn second and talk to him). If you do get the Dedue ending, Dimitri dies completely sane but with regrets that he couldn't avenge his loved ones.
Because of those things, they know she doesn't like him so they also do not like him, because the mindless masses of stans don't know how to like or dislike something that Edelgard would disagree with. Since Claude was "on her side" in Hopes, that's all they care about and think it automatically means he likes her because it's good for Edelgard.
(As a side mention, Annette is a good example of people outside his immediate group of friends who he’s genuine with)
All of it:
In other words, the whole thing really just adds up to them not caring about anything except what looks good for their waifu. They could accept that Hopes Claude allied with her but still doesn't trust her, or they could accept that Houses Claude would just never be able to see eye to eye with her. They could accept that and still like Claude. The only way for them to like Claude though is apparently him sucking up to their waifu. Since Edelgard never took Claude seriously anyway in Houses, she doesn't outright dislike him, but she doesn't want Fodlan in his hands because he's an uwu foreigner and no foreigner deserves to be in power instead of her. It's not that she dislikes him outright, so her stans don't hate him.
Since she wants to kill Dimitri on the regular and openly expresses her feelings about him being not more than shrug emoji like how she is with Claude, dating back to, I don't know -checks Fodlan calendar- the very beginning of the prologue of Houses, her stans hate him because she'd like that if she were real and she'd be uwu so nice to them for agreeing with her. If they liked Claude, she wouldn't care and would be confused by it, but also just be whatever about it. They have to hate Dimitri though, because Edelgard would love that!
Like, you know, you can have a top favorite character and not always agree with them, also admitting when they're in the wrong or just incorrect. You can also have a favorite character who hates another one of your favorites and still love them both even though your favorite wouldn't like that! If you've followed me long enough, you know exactly what my Tellius brain is taking about and that I've been through exactly that. You can look at the facts and read them correctly and understand that Claude just doesn't vibe with Edelgard and still like him. You can just look at the facts and hate Dimitri but understand that Claude is more relaxed around him and why he is.

got carried away writing a book review of the day of the doctor so here u go i guess
the episode itself is. fine I guess. there are some good moments & its fun seeing ten & eleven interact and there's some good angsting etc. like the episode is fairly solid even though it does that typical moffat retroactively-changing-massive-parts-of-canon thing that he liked doing. its not perfect but whatever, there are lots of good bits! The Novelisation. Is. Dare I Say Kinda Bad.
(also I should point out that this is written by steven moffat who was the showrunner and wrote the script for the episode like he should know what he's doing)
it starts off with the doctor narrating in a typical slightly silly pretentious fourth-wall breaking kinda thing and you're like okay this is sort of cool yup very eleven that feel like him. the narration switches between the doctor talking about himself in third person cos a) that's how books work and b) he's just Like That but will slip into first person in select moments to show he's getting caught up in remember events or his feelings and the idea is that you're reading it on psychic paper & it's being beamed into your head telepathically or whatever and that's cool!! that's a good idea!
HOWEVEr. there are three (mainly) versions of the doctor in the book the war doctor the tenth doctor and the eleventh. and YOUD THINK THEY JUST CALL THEM WAR DOCTOR TEN AND ELEVEN like normal people but noooooooo depending on whose pov you're in he gives them all silly nicknames based on how various characters perceive them which is really hard to follow, or just call all of the The Doctor, which is their name yeah but like ??? which one is talking???? you kinda have to guess sometimes??? added to that is that there are shapeshifters in this one so there's another layer of 'is this the real guy or the Copy Guy' as well as BAD WOLF being there (who isn't rose, its bad wolf, but it isn't her either because it's a sentient superweapon that's talking to him that just LOOKS like rose.), there's just all in all a lot of Multiple Versions Of The Same Few People which can be hard to keep track of. like it's just confusing to read sometimes. not too hard even if the endless silly nicknames for ten & eleven get annoying a bit.
and there's a bunch of inconsistencies too (and yes I know I know this is the who needs continuity show) between this and the episode and I guess moffat can do what he likes adapting his own stuff but he kinda missed out some good bits? doesn't even have the 'this is his grunge phase' line and some of the stuff that makes ten and eleven's dynamic so funny but has all these random extra scenes of kate lethbridge-stewart and osgood that are just ?????? we didn't need that there??? it wasn't reeeeally adding anything??? and in the episode ten and eleven cant see bad wolf/rose/the moment ar all but here they see it for a bit?? but like no reaction really from either of them even though ten at LEaST should have had a visceral moment of loss there or something. idk.
and then at the end where there's that curator guy who is tom baker and its kinda I think supposed to be ambiguous as to whether its really four or not or some kind of coincidence but in the book it's like 'ahah! i was really narrating as four all along!' but like how is that even possible sorry I know this is the time travel show but why is he there and what is the implication? i think it's cos 11 says 'oh I could retire and be a curator' and then four is all old n stuff and Is the curator but like???? he regenerated?? is this a ten/fourteen type situation of the far future like a decade before they came up with that and then why is four in 2013??? what?? idk did they just really really want tom baker in it?
and then there's more foreshadowing of peter capaldi as twelve and then ten says 'i don't want to go' again which you're supposed to find sad but is fitted in in the most awkward way possible like. he would not say that no one would have said that sentence just then sorry guys. the ending feels kinda rushed more so in the book cos the narrator (four?? eleven??? is literally Not Paying Attention to the last conversation and then there's a page that says HELP ME over a bunch of tally marks ?????? idk man????? also there's all this stuff in the comedic chapter interlude narration that's referring to 'chapter nine' 'stop trying to find chapter nine' is he just saying 'yeah ok the ninth doctor's not in this one sorry guys'???? i think so??
cos it starts with chapter eight which is the eighth doctor getting regenerated into the war doctor (a soldier in the time war, the very thing he was saying he'd never become) (more of Moffat retrospectively Majorly Altering Canon) which was uhm. quite the scene cos in the episode he chooses it?? but in the book it says he was forced to by the sisterhood of karn???? what???????????? if that's so then why isn't that made Very Clear in the episode???? girl what???? there's lots of references to classic who which is fun but then he goes and says 'oh yeah btw one and two were actually colourblind that's why 1963-69 was in black and white' like okay. that's a slightly stupid writing decision which every other author has managed to ignore because it doesn't matter that they were in black and white cos the show started airing IN THE SIXTIES you can accept the limitations of historical content into canon!! he did the exact same thing in twice upon a time when he made One make sexist jokes so he could point out how progressive the show was Now which actually backfires Majorly because it makes The Doctor sexist instead of making The White British Colonial Men Who Wrote It In 1960s England sexist like ausgnauhgnshansghn CMON! and on that note Why Is This STuff So Sexualised like????? there was no need to say that the doctor found clara pretty, or rose/bad wolf/the moment/whatever, ten ends up marrying queen Elizabeth I which is kinda funny ngl but some of the things eleven says about that! is so weird! and unnecessary! and theres the fuckinhnsaa scene with the comparing the size of the sonic screwdrivers which is SO BAD LIKE YUCKKKK WHAT WHY WOULD YOU PUT THAT IN THERE ITS A FAMILY SHOW DUDE and like all the women at some point have a Comment on their appearance except for maybe kate lethbridge-stewart but idk. ahjsajnsajnsan. ick. and moffat just changes canon around all the time! gallifrey is gone again! but not really! but now it's back for real! the hybrid! (still don't know what was up with that) the impossible girl! mels/melody/river song! why!
and like some of it was so good!! the three doctors who are all the same person but not the same person, and some of the character writing was really really good & the interactions between different regenerations and like i Knew sometimes when ten was speaking cos the way he reacts to his own issues is so predictable (good predictable. like he has A Way He Acts its fascinating) and how they talk to each other (themself) as a representation of what the doctor is always struggling with about the decisions he's made. and i love the 'time lord art is bigger on the inside' bit that's really cool & when the war doctor starts the calculations and then eleven can finish them cos its four hundred years later even though they're in the same room together, like that's cool! moffat understands how to use timey-wimey stuff in the time travel show and he does it very well, a lot more (and better) than russell t davies does. but i watch this episode and think what no i really like this one and then i think about it and There Are Problems!!
anyways. uhm. haha. my favourite show 👍

I don't know anything about canon Yata or the role he plays in anything, because I've not watched the newer Lupin parts except for a little of part 5... but I think introducing another regularly recurring character has such hilarious potential. I really think that could/should be so funny. the crew is all used to each other, they've seen each other do some of the worst shit that they've ever done in their lives, and by now there's probably been some expectation drift as far as what most people would consider normal behavior. meanwhile Yata is over here like... still balking at the fact that Goemon is just walking around like he was plucked straight out of the past, and Jigen can get his hands on an anti tank gun if he needs it, which he does sometimes??? and Lupin... god, Lupin is just Lupin, y'know? what isn't weird about that guy...
but especially when it comes to the polycule, I would love to watch the slow process of Yata building his understanding of what the hell is going on with them from the ground up. like he starts with a basic understanding of "Lupin is dating Fujiko" which... er, it isn't entirely like that? they don't consider themselves quite that official, and they definitely aren't exclusive, but also they'd move mountains for each other, and sometimes they will just swap pieces of their wardrobe and gossip like old friends in a way that almost feels completely platonic, but then other times they're all over each other... so even just that is confusing. I'm imagining Fujiko regaling Lupin with the tale of some stooge she had to sleep with for a con she was running, and complaining about how terrible he was in bed, and Lupin is just howling with laughter because Fujiko is a good storyteller, but she might also be steering the conversation in the direction of "we should have a better time than that tonight" and that might be because she's trying to get at something he stole recently... it's complicated. if you asked Zenigata what he thought of the situation, he could pick up on almost everything about their dynamic. if you asked Yata, he'd know next to nothing. they're like, a couple... right?
so the first time he sees Lupin and Jigen kiss, he has to rework his whole worldview. like wtf why is that happening?? Zenigata is like "oh crap, yeah, I should've briefed Yata on the relationship dynamics" because by now it's second nature for Zenigata to accept all this. he forgot that that'd be surprising... especially with just how absolutely gay Jigen is... he's got so many crazy exes, Zenigata's perception is that Jigen must reeeeally like men if he was capable of dating this many deeply unhinged ones. and Zenigata gets to blow Yata's mind yet again by telling him that Goemon is involved too, and then trying to explain the intricacies of Jigen and Fujiko's contentious frienemies-with-the-same-boyfriends dynamic... it's a very long talk.
but then all that's left for Yata to discover, is just how involved Zenigata is in all this, despite his best efforts not to be. he's seen Lupin tease Zenigata in suggestive ways before, but Zenigata always responded by trying to enforce proper boundaries... moreso in front of Yata because Yata is a coworker, and it'd just cause all kinds of problems if he didn't. but they could only keep this under wraps for so long. it'd probably just be a lot of little things that Yata notices over time... questions that keep piling up in his head until he's ready to burst with curiosity. certain genuine reactions to Lupin's flirting start recontextualizing the amount of time Zenigata spent looking at Lupin's photo the other day, and there was also that phone call that Zenigata had to take in private, but his body language and tone of voice as he talked into the phone was particular, and instinctively made Yata feel like Lupin must be on the other end. is Zenigata in love with Lupin? how does that work... or does it? maybe he's trying his best not to act on his feelings, or maybe their relationship is secret... how does he feel about the rest of Lupin's band of thieves?
the real confirmation of his suspicions is when Lupin drags Zenigata off in the midst of some unrelated chaos, and Yata follows when he wasn't supposed to. maybe he overhears Lupin complaining that it's harder to find good moments to fool around with Zenigata when Yata is constantly with him, and Zenigata grumbles a bit about how they're not supposed to be doing this in the first place, and Yata is simply a diligent, hard worker... but he doesn't really resist getting kissed by Lupin either. Yata tries to just leave, but they somehow notice him. ultimately everything turns out fine, but there's a bit of initial tension because technically Yata should be reporting this as some kind of misconduct. idk how it'd all eventually get smoothed out, but the more Yata learns, the more he realizes that the rules are made up and the points don't matter, so to speak.

So Idk why but I really don't like Agatha, and I got my friend to read Carry On too, and she didn't like her either. I'm sorry, Ik this is a little random
That´s totally understandable dear, I felt like that the first time I read the book, too! But after a second read through I´ve actually grown very fond of Agatha! Yes, she´s a little selfish and doesn´t seem like a hero, but in the end she´s just a girl that has been pushed to be a certain way all her life! Like, her parents are these wealthy people always concerned about their reputation and the only reason they support her relationship with Simon is because he´s a powerful mage and they want the fame. Then there´s the whole thing about her normal friends - she had to give them all up because they could know about her magic and it´s very clearly stated that Agatha thinks she doesn´t have any real friends in the magical world, so she must be hella lonely! And then there´s Simon, who probably never reeeeally loved her and was a shit boyfriend in general. He was very clearly with her because she´s gorgeous and he had some sort of “home” where he could stay over the holidays and be called “son” and all that. In my head they were only together because it was sort of expected - the Chosen One gets the pretty girl. And she´s SO TIRED of just being the pretty girl. Like, she even says so: she thought of herself as the price at the end, nothing more than an object to please everyone around her. So in the end, Agatha has never been very selfish at all. She had been thinking of herself as a plot device all this time and when she´s finally running away from it all in the last battle it´s nothing more than her breaking free from all the shit she was expected to do but never wanted anyway. It´s so incredibly brave and liberating and it just shows that sometimes we have to be our own hero and save ourselves! And now the rant is over nonny, I´m very sorry I wrote you half a novel as an answer, haha! :D I´m just very passionate about Agatha and I think she´s a great character that is very atypical and well written! :D
