I too was suicidal once
I too lied in a bloodied bathtub
And silently breathed in marijuana smoke
Sleep and have sweet dreams
Forget about the past

Is empty and abandoned

5 free ways To make money online
Tumblr media
So you want to make money online. Or did you witness someone make good cash online? You might have seen people talking about how filthy money they are making online. Facebook groups, YouTube videos, blogs, books. Keep counting. Everyone is showing off their get rich schemes how to make money online. The idea of how they made a living online that pays for their luxuries drools you up. Why wouldn't it in the first place. We all know earning money is hard. It is very hard. But no one in this world who knows how to make a good living and good earning says it is impossible. No one. Disclaimer: This is not going to be a "get rich quick" blog article where the author lets you dream and visualize how a huge amount of cash feels and smells like. I am here to tell you how you can make a decent living online instead. I don't sell dreams. I sell ideas to create reality. Note that.
But first, let me tell you one thing. Making money online might be tough, but not impossible. I am not a person who rides a Maserati to work, chills at the islands, and who owns a huge mansion. I am a person who knows how to enter the world of making a living online. I have done it. Hell, a lot of times. And so can you!
It takes a couple of skills, and a bit of knowledge to make money online. Again, nothing comes overnight. It takes time.
I believe in one rule. One very subtle rule of life. Always, and always, make plans about the future that at least allow you to move to and fro for 1-2 years. Do not forget, that is why a college degree is at least 2 years if your life. Now you know why! Alright, so let us get into the ten ways how you will be making a decent amount of money online. Note: These are in random orders. Again, this is not a "top 5 ways to make money online" blog article, I am serious. We will only talk about the measures that work for real to decently make money online. 1- Step into copywriting If you have read till this point, that is because of copywriting.
Wait, I am not talking about the '©' copyright thing. I am talking about copy-writing.
What is copywriting? In simpler words, copywriting is a piece of text that helps brands/companies/people sell their products or services or ideas. You have seen, read, watched, or heard any advertisement since your childhood. That is copywriting. Did you buy that facewash after reading how it takes off the oil from your face once in for all? Then that's a successful copywriting. Many famous philanthropists have made a decent amount of living by simply writing converting copies for brands and businesses.
But how would you start? Consider the great American verdict- "Everything has its first time". The same way. Every brand and business needs someone to write copies for them that might convert. You just need to get upskilled in the same genre. Come on! You seriously want to make money online, don't do? Learn how the advertising industry works. Intern for free at a company for 3-6 months. Or simply check out a free course online. Or read some books, study advertisements, webpages, etc. If you would like to read a book, I suggest Ogilvy on Advertising by David Ogilvy 2- Make Helpful Videos on YouTube You might have heard from someone about making money on YouTube earlier. Many might have even told you how they made a million of money.
At the same time, some YouTubers are just making a GREAT living out of YouTube. One fine example is Chase Namic. I discovered his profile on Instagram while hunting for people who nicely make money online, huge money! He has hired a team that makes videos for his 20 "cash cow channels" (as he calls it) that make a sum of $100,000 a month on an average. Does he appear on these videos? No. Are these videos just something random? No. Do these videos help someone? Yes. That is the golden rule. You cannot just go out, wiggle your leg, and earn huge $$$ out of it. Unless you are PewDiePie though.
Anyway, out of what I came to learn about Chase is that he always says if the channels are in the right direction and niche, or the content is covered under a trending format and solves what the user is looking out for. It is bound to take off sooner or later. You can't just sit and copy someone's work and expect getting monetized. Even YouTube takes its monetization terms seriously. At the time of writing this article, YouTube wants your channel to have 1000 subscribers and 4000 watch hours to be eligible for getting monetized for Google Ads. That translates into your content being interesting and/or solving some problems or queries. Another way is to include affiliate links. Create a channel that is targeted on a very segregated niche. Let's say home decor. Create videos about how you would decorate your home under $500 or so, and insert affiliate links for the product you used.
It just needs to be genuine and influential. Why won't it achieve success?
Again. Making money online is not impossible. It can be a little tougher, but that's where the fun lies. 3- Sell stock photos and stock videos Do you think every scene you see in a film, show, or a YouTube channel is shot by the same creator?
 Not always.
Let me give you some examples.
The character talks about how cats can be funny or lazy or cute. And then the frame changes from his face being in-camera to a cat playing or acting lazy. Most of the times, that is a stock video footage.
There might be a guy who filmed his cat in a great lit condition using a good camera, doing "cat stuff", maybe?
And also the creator thought that might be a great shot to use in his video or film. He will have to pay some amount of money to the guy who filmed, or the site where that cat-guy(forgive me) uploaded the video at. Whichever way, the guy gets paid every time a creator downloads and buys the right to use a video of a cat doing "cat stuff" in their videos.
And we were saying making money is hard. Damn.
 The same applies to photos.
Sites that I recommend (not sponsored) ShutterstockAlarmyAdobe StockiStock Photo123RFVideo HiveFootage.net 4- Write a blog This is one irony for me. At the time of writing this article, Evolve Theory (the blog you are reading this article in) is not into any monetized space. As of now, I have other business in digital marketing agency, information, and YouTube arena that are paying me well. Maybe later this blog will be into the same. No one can guarantee the future. Whichever way, you will be the first one to know. Plus, the user experience will not be hurt. At any cost.
So, how to make money online by blogging? To say, is the easiest.
 ▪ Buy a good domain and hosting ▪ Install some blogging software or consider Wordpress, Blogger, etc. ▪ Write content that is keyword specific ▪ Do SEO ▪ Wait and watch But. Wait. I have a different approach. I suggest you to start working on good content. Something that helps your visitors. That's going to help them stay hooked, and in return, helps you make money online easily. Everything else will follow.
Just start it off. If you are into food, home, and living, START IT OFF! At any time, you can change your game. It's your blog. Your space.
Know your audience. See what they want. And shape it accordingly. 5- Flip products online People are here about getting rich with dropshipping in 2020. But flipping is another thing that has made many, I repeat many people play it cool. GaryVee still does it. Come on. You're never too old or poor to do that. Money is money until it doesn't hurt anyone or kills your happiness. You know a friend who has an iPhone that he wants to sell for $200?
Good. Advertise on free sites like Olx, Craigslist. But up your game first. Get it from him for a day, click good clean pictures of the iPhone. Make sure every piece is in place. The bill, accessories, the box. Everything Pack it the way you might want to open the box when you buy it.
Add your extra $ in the amount. Write the ad in good grammar, again, copywriting!
Once you sell it, ask your customer to write a review and rate you. That's how you build trust and this extra cash you earned is not for your leisure. Put that money and buy another phone and sell it. Not everyone would be your friend.
Coming to the end of this article, I'd want you to know one thing.
Whatever you do online. Be it freelancing, selling gigs, photos, flipping. Anything.
Always remember to provide value to your client/customer/user before creating the urge to make money online. If that takes place, your success in making money online is a sure shot. -- If you liked the article or if it helped you in any way, please consider sharing it with the ones who might want to read it. TRANSLATION TAKE 2: One-sensei’s interview with Young Sunday (excerpts in detail)
Thanks to the lovely and talented @isasm, we’ve been blessed with a Japanese transcript recording excerpts from One’s interview with Young Sunday. Even though I already summarized the interview, I thought you all might be interested in reading some passages in greater detail (plus whoever put the excerpts together focused on different parts than I did, so it’s like looking at the interview from another angle). I hope you all enjoy it. Especially everyone over at @one-blog!
(P.S. I’m so exhausted I did this all at work today I’m gonna get fired someone help me aaaaahhh :P)
EDIT: Here’s a link to the summary, which I’ve tweaked to fix a couple mistakes I made before I had access to the transcript. :)
Tumblr media
Submitting to Weekly Shonen Jump, the magazine everyone longs to be part of
YAMADA: Hey, you know the student council president from Mob Psycho 100? That page is really intense, where the whole page is that scene with the monologue about the pressure he gets from his parents? And it was like, suddenly it's gone all Yoshiharu Tsuge (TN: A famous Japanese cartoonist and essayist).
OKKUN: Tsuge and Kazuo Umezu (TN: Horror manga author).
YAMADA: That guy's style is totally Garo (TN: Avant-garde manga anthology magazine).
OKKUN: For real! It's so Goya (TN: The painter I guess? Or the Spanish film awards? I'm not sure; the literal translation is "So it's Goya," which is so vague I give up aaaah).
YAMADA: (while pointing at Okkun) We better watch it! We'll get drawn into the darkness of artistic criticism. We've gotta handle this like they do on Sawako no Asa (TN: A Japanese talk show).
OKKUN: (to ONE) So you were painstakingly drawing in secret, you created a homepage, did you ever submit your work?
ONE: I submitted something in my first year of college, it was a 19-page gag manga I drew and took over to Weekly Shonen Jump, which of course is the venue everyone aspires to.
YAMADA: So you did submit something!
ONE: It was just the one time.
YAMADA: So how did it go?
ONE: The thing I submitted was really dull. Even as I drew it I was like, "The moment I show this to the editor, I'll be laughed at." Anyway, the guy I showed it to went through it at a crazy speed, totally passing over the parts that were meant to be funny.
YAMADA: Yes, exactly! That's how it goes even now!
ONE: The editor went through 5 or 6 jokes I'd put in, and I immediately broke out in a cold sweat. I was like, "I'm a complete joke, I wanna go home." After that experience, I'd made an elaborate homepage with a blog I updated incessantly, and my updates only accelerated.
YAMADA: Ah, I see.
ONE: That felt a lot safer than submitting anything again.
Posting Manga on Garake
(TN: This seems to be a type of SoftBank cell phone)
YAMADA: So after that disappointment you returned to what was safe, intending to redouble your efforts. I see. Like you decided, "Let's forget about submitting, make my own homepage, and post manga for everyone to read for free"?
ONE: Basically, yes. I had already made the homepage by the time I submitted, and all these other aspiring mangaka I had met through the homepage were winning awards.
YAMADA: So it was like, "That guy too?"
ONE: I was thinking, "Him too?" At that point I was working under the pen name "ONE," and one of the acquaintances who had won an award was like, "Maybe ONE-san will be next?" That was pretty much why I made the mistake of submitting.
YAMADA: So that's how it was. Like, "What have I done?"
OKKUN: So what did you do then?
ONE: Before I tried submitting, I had bought myself a cell phone (TN: Garake) with a camera on it, and I would take tiny little pictures of the manga I was drawing, getting really up close so the pictures wouldn't come out shaky, and upload them to my homepage. Because there was this cell phone service that let anyone create a homepage.
YAMADA: You're part of that generation.
ONE: That was how I released my super ugly manga on my homepage. At that time, you couldn't view an entire page at a time on your cell phone. When you opened a manga, you couldn't see more than two panels or one word bubble at a time.
YAMADA: So hard to read!
ONE: To get through one scene, you'd have to read through about 15 pages that way. At that time, acquaintances of mine started drawing pasokon manga.
The first serialization of One Punch Man on the web
ONE: I didn't know anything about the culture at the time, but I started drawing pasokon manga and uploading it to a website. As I learned more about creating a series, I looked through that site. It was called Niitosha. (TN: "NEET Society," though the characters used for "NEET" spell out "new capital.")
YAMADA: That's an awesome name! Niitosha is an amazing name!
ONE: The name was meant to be something like a place where NEETs gather, though the actual users were mostly students and members of society. When I saw the site, I thought it was really awesome. All the users were beginners or semipros publishing their own works. People had been publishing there for however many years, and there were more than 5000 registered works.
When I looked at the work my friend was publishing on there, I saw a column called "Send Impressions" or something like that. When you clicked it, you could see the feedback other Niitosha authors had left all lined up. And you could also give your own impressions of the work. This site had been made as a place where beginners could receive feedback.
"I've stumbled across a really good place," I thought. "I wanna draw pasokon manga!" I was bubbling over with motivation. So I got myself a notebook computer and a drawing tablet and started drawing in a program called Comic Studio. The manga I drew became One Punch Man.
YAMADA: What!? For real!?
ONE: Yes.
OKKUN: Your very first work was One Punch Man.
YAMADA: Isn't that just the Japanese dream! Amazing! That's the dream we have in this country! At that time, did you ever think it would be broadcast as an anime?
ONE: I never would have believed it.
YAMADA: That manga could have been a Marvel movie! It could come right after Ant Man! "Iron Man," "Ant Man," "Whatever-Else-Man," and then comes "Anpanman" and then "One Punch Man!"
OKKUN: You put Yanase-san in there too. (Laughs) (TN: Takeshi Yanase, creator of Anpanman.) "One Punch Man" follows the Marvel pattern, right?
YAMADA: They'd definitely have to accept One Punch Man over there! (TN: Overseas). On the other hand, Anpanman would totally have the wrong feel. People over there would be like, "I wanna eat him," it'd be like, "No, you can't do that!"
We've got a self-sacrificial type of spirit in Asia, that's why Anpanman is popular. (TN: Anpanman heals others by giving them pieces of his head to eat.) But outside of Asia they'd be like, "Eh? You guys are eating yourselves!?" And it would never become popular.
Surpassing ONE PIECE abroad
(TN: This was my biggest mistake in my first translation because I missed that they were talking about One Punch Man's popularity outside of Japan. One Punch Man does indeed surpass One Piece in sales in the U.S., though not in Japan.)
OKKUN: Looking at viewer comments, it looks like One Punch Man outsells One Piece abroad. I don't know if that's true, but that's what the comment says.
YAMADA: Believe it, everyone!
ONE: I think One Punch Man is number one depending on the day or week, but I don't know all the details.
YAMADA: See! What did I tell you!
OKKUN: What? What did you know that I didn't?
YAMADA: We're sitting next to the guy who's taken over all of America! That time has finally come! (Laughs)
OKKUN: (Looking at viewer comments) It outsells the Bible!?
YAMADA: Whooooa! Wait a second, wait a second! Is that a Beatles reference?
OKKUN: That was Jesus!
YAMADA: Saying, "We're more famous than Jesus"?
OKKUN: Because there's a Paul in Christianity!
YAMADA: All right, that's enough! We're getting way off track!
ONE: Murata-sensei is so amazingly talented.
YAMADA: But it's really incredible. I think of Kinnikuman, and that's drawn like kids' doodles, two people were just casually chatting and they created this character all by themselves.
OKKUN: Are you evangelizing about Yudetamago? (TN: The duo responsible for Kinnikuman)
YAMADA: I'm not talking about Murata-sensei, but rather I'm segueing into talking about ONE-kun's characters. They've (TN: The characters in Kinnikuman) got such a total One Punch Man feel.
ONE: I guess they do.
The hero who solves everything with one punch
YAMADA: What kind of feeling were you going for with that character? (TN: Saitama)
ONE: There's no point trying to cover it up, I liked all the normal manga aimed at elementary schoolers and I read a lot. But by contrast, I thought it would be funny if the character started with the sort of strength you usually see in the final chapter, and I noticed that after drawing the first chapter.
In that first chapter, I wrote "One Punch Man" because he's a guy who takes out enemies in one punch and goes, "Damn it, I did it in one punch again!" That's all I'd come up with.
OKKUN: So it's like you cut out all the boring stuff.
ONE: Yeah, exactly. From there, it started spreading, and it spread far more than I'd predicted.
YAMADA: Was that difficult?
ONE: No, not at all. On the contrary, I suppose you could say it felt easy.
YAMADA: Most people wouldn't think of starting from the end like that, would they? In that sense, the fact that it feels like the character immediately comes out like "HYAAAH!" and makes you go "Whoa, whoa," is probably why it spread like that. Did all that come out naturally?
ONE: Yeah.
OKKUN: There you have it, he's a genius. We've got a genius here. (Laughs)
ONE: There were various difficulties and dilemmas, but at times when things got tricky, it was like the hero trying to use knowledge and personal experience to push his way through...
Reiji-sensei (TN: Yamada Reiji, the host and a fellow mangaka), you've met and spoken with a lot of different people and absorbed a lot of things in a lot of different situations, so I think you can write all different types of characters. I don't think I can do that. So I just solve everything with one punch. (Laughs)
Of course there are also times when things can't be solved through punching. Within the world of One Punch Man, Saitama can adapt his strength in a flexible way. If he has a problem, it's with regular people or with running out of money.
OKKUN: Or hitting up a special sale at the super market.
YAMADA: That's the issue this week. (TN: The literal translation is "That's this week's guy," I'm not sure what he's referring to)
OKKUN: That kind of everyday stuff. Plus he's just become too strong.
ONE: That's true. As the author, I started by creating a character who's really tough and reliable, Saitama's always there no matter what other troublesome character shows up.
OKKUN: I see. That's what makes it so fun to look at.
YAMADA: A real Mito Komon type of guy. (TN: The hero of an old Japanese period drama)
OKKUN: There will always be justice in the end.
The surprising popularity of One Punch Man
YAMADA: Mob Psycho is the same way. He stays quiet, until whatever percentage comes out, and after it comes out it's kind of refreshing. He's the kind of guy that shows up in a manga like "The shocking answer will be revealed just seconds from now!"
OKKUN: Isn't Mob Psycho drawn as the flip side [to One Punch Man]?
YAMADA: We're moving on to Mob Psycho now.
OKKUN: This program's been all about One Punch Man, it seems like.
YAMADA: I actually think we've showed off One Punch Man considerably well. He's a true human being, that guy. That's become all too rare, I think. Thank you very much. Have I got it all correct?
OKKUN: So you were getting responses from others, but when you posted on Niitosha, did One Punch Man become popular immediately?
ONE: It was pretty quick. I was shocked. I drew and uploaded the first chapter thinking I'd be happy if I got one or two comments like other manga, but then I was sitting their watching the comment column after each update and the number was increasing more and more. There were people who said they were looking forward to the second chapter, so I worked hard and released the second chapter, and within three or four chapters, it seemed like the people on Niitosha decided I was an author who was going to update properly, so I got even more views.
There are a lot of web manga that just stop right in the middle, or chapter one gets posted and the next chapter gets posted 3 years later. (TN: Ain't that the truth!)
YAMADA: That's why we update every week. Every week on Wednesday, everyone can rest assured that the next update is coming.
OKKUN: Saitama's a hero for fun, isn't he? Then he enters the association and gradually rises through the ranks, like he's just flowing right through them. Like he's just going at his own pace. Then he gets this disciple, right? A cyborg.
YAMADA: I need to butt in here, this show has been crammed full, it's time to snag your favorite food and prepare for the second half.
Tumblr media
OKKUN: For real!?
YAMADA: It's already been 40 minutes.
OKKUN: You're right. Crap.
One's three themes
YAMADA: When I look at Mob Psycho, and One Punch Man is the same way, I feel like it conveys three themes.
Tumblr media
YAMADA: Basically, the three themes ONE has embraced are: "What is power?" "What do we do with power?" And moreover, "What is our true power?" How do people who have power live their lives in relation to that?
So in the end this leads to a theory of life or a theory of happiness, really the mechanism underlying everything, I think that's amazing.
Basically that thing with wanting more power never changes, and it leads to the same problem at the start of both works that you see in common with works by other authors. The character's default is overwhelming power. It's the same in both works.
Looking at it objectively, the people who always win are naturally going to be viewed as protagonists. This is what we always want to show. But first, I want to show some great pictures you've done. Your pictures are the best. This is the scene where the protagonist shows up in chapter 2. This picture, at the very beginning.
Tumblr media
YAMADA: Was this the picture you started with on the homepage? What kind of picture did you start with?
ONE: It hasn't really changed. (TN: Between the online and the print versions) But this is much better, because the homepage I used in college was so bad.
YAMADA: When you were taking pictures with your phone?
ONE: Right. I was just drawing these tiny pictures because I was restricted by the camera. You can't just draw tiny pictures, right? So I was drawing pictures and making what looked like reduced versions of them.
OKKUN: Everyone, this viewer comment says: "ONE has gotten so skillful."
YAMADA: He has. He's become so good since the beginning, but these pictures at the beginning are really interesting. This is a picture from the beginning. Reigen is showing up like "BAM," this is chapter 1.
Tumblr media
YAMADA: I think this is so awesome.
Tumblr media
YAMADA: And this, it looks like Ebisu Yoshikazu. (TN: A Japanese actor—our Tome-chan is way prettier than him, btw!)
(Laughter in the studio)
No assistants or anything
YAMADA: It's like this awesome magazine from the 80's, Garo. Was that an influence at all?
ONE: I actually haven't read it.
YAMADA: Where did a picture like this come from? You just did it and it turned out like this?
ONE: I probably didn't use a reference.
YAMADA: It definitely feels like you didn't copy anyone else's work.
OKKUN: Do you have any experience with assistants?
ONE: None. (TN: I know he has assistants now, though...maybe they’re just talking about when Mob Psycho first started up?)
OKKUN: Ah, that explains it!
YAMADA: If you'd had assistants a lot of things would have been fixed up. (TN: His verb form here implies that would be a bad thing, like ONE's art would lose its originality)
OKKUN: No assistants, and I've been told no editor either.
Tumblr media
YAMADA: Like these lines that draw focus to Reigen here, the points hit right here and it just pops like "BAM."
YAMADA: Normally it has that effect. This was done without white out?
ONE: It's a sticker.
YAMADA: Oh, so it’s just put over top! (Laughs)
ONE: Yeah, it's just a sticker from Comic Studio.
YAMADA: So you can do this because you're using Comic Studio, this is awesome.
The Sid Vicious of the manga world
YAMADA: As I think you can see from this program, I take an oblique view of what's skillful in terms of artwork. A picture can be unskilled but still interesting, some pictures have more expressive power and I respect that. That's one way of saying it. Higashimura Akiko's like that too. (TN: The mangaka who did Princess Jellyfish, among other things)
It's a doctrine of expressiveness. A doctrine of anything being good as long as it conveys. I like people saying, "I want to convey this, so let's do it this way." It's so punk. It's avant-garde.
This is especially interesting, Reigen's hand when he's talking on the phone. This is the best.
Tumblr media
YAMADA: Everyone has trouble drawing a hand holding a telephone.
(Laughter in the studio)
YAMADA: It's hard to draw. But I don't think you should start with trying to do it properly. All things considered, anything goes. This is punk. This is early hip hop.
YAMADA: Looking at a guy who goes with his gut, I feel like, "This is super unskilled but super interesting, maybe I can do this too." It's like Mashi's guitar playing in The Blue Hearts. (TN: A Japanese punk band) It's Sid Vicious. It's destruction and creation at the same time.
OKKUN: (to Yamada) There's only one person in your class, and he's the one who drew it.
YAMADA: Moreover, the contents seems like it gives rise to some delusion that, "Anyone could draw that!" But in your case, you draw totally differently from anyone else, you give us real human beings.
YAMADA: All fluffy or intense like "BOOM" (Imitates a Dragonball Kamehameha pose) That's how everyone draws. Speaking of which, what is "BOOM"? Nobody ever seems to think "It just went BOOM, but what's actually BOOMing?" There's just this BANG when someone's like, "At last I've achieved power, the world belongs to me!"
Because you're giving us real human beings, we feel like, "No, it really is like that," or "I can totally understand that, but let's not act like that around people."
When it comes to true human beings, those who have power are the ones who must carry it, and there's a sense of security in that. It times of political instability or whatever, those with political power are the ones who have to worry about it. Everything rides on those with power deciding they want to join forces. Which is really interesting. This is the most important part of these drawings.

What is this talk about Taehyung being treated... differently? ... if it's true, @bighit WYD? I hope this isn't true. BigHit fam, please take care of them -no one get's left out!! And Taehyung -be YOU MAN! ARMYs will accept you no matter what. Also, can we give Taehyung the most amount of LOVE for his upcoming birthday?! Like let's tweet the hell outta it and let Taehyung know
hmmm…honestly i saw threads about it and read many - many opinions about the issue but…hmm..its not that i dont have my own opinion, its just that i have mixed feelings so i stood on the side line and analyze the unfolded scene right now. However, i will try my best to answer with cold head, without being blinded by the emotions and without skipping the details !
if im not mistaken, you’re referring to THIS twitter post which brought the issue to the spotlight. First i will react to this, if its alright with you…
1. Negative fortune: I won’t lie, I didn’t like how his fortune sounded, how his was the worst one. Tae’s facial expressiond darkened immediately after he got it, he re-read that paper for many times and even Jimin had to step in to comfort his friend ( when he said: these papers are fake)  - i hated that part, that’s the truth; because as a fan i don’t like when any of the members feel the way how tae felt at that moment.  on the other hand,we don’t know if this was made by a real fortune teller ( they are really popular in Korea and their famous ones are highly respected) or a fake one. If this was said by a REAL one, then you know…it might be true  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯? We all believe in different things, some people says some stuffs are true some says it’s just brain control … i don’t have the right to decide this, this depends on the individuals. But let’s assume Tae believes in stuff like this, this was made by a real, good, fortune teller then is it really bad if he knows what he can expect next year and be cautious about his acts? maybe with that he can protect himself? …But what if it’s just a fake, random one?-  then Tae will be the victim of this mind game and just because of this useless pressure, he will fail. I don’t know if I expressed my doubt perfectly, but I’m conflicted to say anything. If I were the staff, after receiving the boys’ fortune and seeing how there is only one bad one which might actually hurt the person, I would ask for a new one from somebody else OR I wouldn’t even hand them out to the members, instead I would look for a different topic or idea which would fill those minutes in the DVD.
2. Shaved Ice: well, this part was freaking confusing?! :O I have no idea why Taehyung was the only one who didn’t get his portion, why he had to wait or what really happened. At first, I thought they played games and he lost so this was his punishment, HOWEVER, on the dvd they didn’t show any parts like this. This eating part basically had no context o.o we just witnessed how the members feed him. A few seconds later Tae was eating watermelon alone so here is my concern about this issue. WAS Taehyung on diet at that time so he asked for a few bites? Or did Tae ordered watermelon instead of shaved ice, but he had to wait longer to get it since the staff had to look for ir or not? Tae ate deliciously, he seemed eager to get those bite from the members ( he swallowed so hard to get Jimin and Seokjin spoon too!)  so then why didn’t he get shaved ice? this shouldn’t be a mystery but this part is 100% odd. For me, it seems he was “accidentally”  left out and it wasn’t Taehyung’s choice since he was hungry and he wanted that damn food. However, we can’t judge openly here either because as I mentioned, we have no content here!!! the boys might play before and they might made an order based on rock-paper-scissord… really, I have no idea what happened here.
3. BT21 character. Until this post, I didn’t hear about this…neither read anything negative about Tata’s profile. I’m lack of knowledge in this topic and because of that I don’t want to make quick assumptions since I don’t have enough information for that. If it’s true then this move was disgusting from bt21′s part and from the company’s part too if they said their okay to that. If it’s not true then this is just another false information which tries to hype up the real issue. If anybody knows more about this, then please tell me!
Now about how Taehyung was mistreated. I think this topic’s roots is from the pre-debut/ debut days when Taehyung was the hidden 7th member. Still today we have no idea why Taehyung was pushed aside. He couldn’t appear in the boys’ vlog - he had to sit aside, his back was only seen on those pictures which Jimin uploaded to the Internet because he couldn’t be revealed until the press conference. Because bighit never adressed the issue we can only assume things
 - this was maybe a marketing move from Bang pd. Since Tae was always handsome and very charming, the fact that he was hidden just put this mysterious aura around him and made the expectation bigger.
- if it’s not marketing move then WHY?!?! why did he have to hide? why was he pushed aside? Tae mentioned it before that he was actually hurt and jealous because of this. He said he always watched teh boys from behind, feeling left out and sad for being alone. He watched teh other members vlog and while teh world heard about the others nobody knew him.:( I wish one day we would know the real answer for this….I just feel like this was threw under the blanket …
The alien concept….I think it was partly pushed by the company, even they called him 4D and the members too - but also it was partly pushed by the fans. For a long time Taehyung was quiet about the topic however 2 years ago ( i think it was 2 but it might be 3? i dont remember the accurate year) Tae said that he doesn’t like when people call him 4D/alien. Since he was upset about it we/fans stopped calling him in these names. But you might notice that sometimes it still appears in the DVD captions and now with this Tata character too. Now this is an interesting case, you know why? We all know how Taehyung matured and how special he is - he doesn’t use his left brain that much, instead his right brain functions moer which gaves him skills and make him a little bit “different” from the other members. it’s a good thing, this means he relies on his instincts, artistic side more - for example im sure you witnessed many genius Taehyung moments or saw them in fan videos. Tae isn’t stupid, his view of life is very interesting. While others overthink a problem, he would come up with a solution which about nobody would ever think. This part of him was “mistranslated” by bighit and by the fans in the early days. Even namjoon says cutely how Tae is a dummy who you cant hate just love, but also he is actually a genius. I’m not sure if bighit purposely still attempts this or it’s just a mistake of their behalf.
I feel like we don’t have enough information to judge since there are many things which are hidden by bighit. We don’t know the whole story, we just see glimpses of it…. but because of that, i think some explanation would be nice. Btw the hashtag was partly ignored because of Jonghyun…it wasn’t the right time to do this and for a few other days it will be still pushed aside by fans becaue everyone is just extremely sensitive right now…. i don’t think we should sleep on this, but i think we have to find a way to hear the answers to our questions. Of course the best method would be if we could ask Tae carefully during fansigns but we don’t have the chance for that now … If anybody hear about this more or if you want to share your opinion, I’m all ears just let’s do it polietly, carefully like always

Yuri on Ice interview translation - Animage 2017/01 (p20-23)
I was going to post this last week but gave priority to the BD stuff. This will be the final interview from the booklet that came with January Animage! There’s still an interview with Kenji Miyamoto left untranslated, but it will be taken care of by @whiteboxgems whenever she has time! I’ll reblog it when it’s around.
This is actually 2 interviews, I’m posting them together because they were one after the other and (main reason) because the second one is very short. A few notes below to better understand the interviews.
The first one is with Yuuichirou Hayashi, the one who created the ending (ED = ending by the way) footage. I have the feeling someone previously posted translations of the captions under the ED screenshots, but I don’t remember where and I’m pretty sure it was just the captions and not the interview parts, so here you have it complete. This one is pretty interesting because he explains in detail how they created the ED, and has some extra information on cut scenes etc. Definitely a must read in my opinion!
The second one is a short interview with Kayoko Ishikawa, the one who did the costume designs. Here you might think: didn’t Chacott design the costumes? I’ll explain. It’s more or less like with Mitsurou Kubo and Tadashi Hiramatsu: Kubo created the original designs for the characters, from scratch, and Hiramatsu transformed them into designs specifically created for animation, therefore with simpler lines, detailed expression sheets and so on. Likewise, Chacott did the original designs for the costumes, from scratch, based on the indications by Yamamoto and Kubo, and then the anime’s costume designer simplified and modified them so that they would be suitable to be animated. (Before actually animating them there’s a further step: the anime’s color designer is going to decide the exact colors, shadows and highlights included, that will be used inside the anime. I translated an interview with the color designer Izumi Hirose some time ago)
I usually don’t add pictures but this time I felt that it would be better to add them as an immediate reference. However, they are just for reference and are not meant to be visually stunning, so please bear with the quality because I just took photos of the magazine with my phone and quickly edited them.
Translation under the cut! (kind of image-heavy)
***If you wish to share this translation please do it by reblogging or posting a link to it***
***Re-translating into other languages is ok but please mention that this post is the source***
Yuuichirou Hayashi ED storyboard, direction, key animation “I paid attention to the sensuality”
The faint sensuality and physical beautiy created by fireworks & water.
—The ED of “Yuri on Ice” has been highly praised by the fans too. How did you feel when director Sayo Yamamoto offered you the job?
I was told by MAPPA at quite an early stage that they wanted to ask me to do the ED. Director Yamamoto is known for her stylish animation, and I was sure from the start that it would be a challenge. Before the meeting I was really anxious to know what kind of instructions I would receive. —What instructions did director Yamamoto give you?
She already had a concrete image in her head, and she told me that the concept would be to “show candid shots of the skaters”. Real figure skaters actually use Instagram and other SNS a lot, and often post pictures. She showed me the pictures they posted and we talked about how to make the ED. Director Yamamoto really knows a lot about figure skating, and she explained many things to me from a fan’s point of view (LOL). I could feel her love for figure skating very strongly. I also watch it on TV, but my knowledge is limited to knowing the names of the most famous athletes, therefore it was very interesting information for me. —The fireworks in the beginning are very striking.
First of all I created the storyboard and drew all the candid shots I could think of. Then I decided the order of appearance based on the song and did some adjustments like removing the shots that wouldn’t fit, but I was really torn about the first and last pictures… After all, I wanted it to start with a shot of Yuuri, Victor and Yurio having fun together. Real figure skaters too get along well outside of tournaments and post pictures together with other athletes on the SNS. Still, the time the three of them spent together in Japan is actually very short. Yurio returns to Russia around May, and fireworks are a bit weird for that time of the year, but you know… why not?, I thought (LOL). —Why did you choose fireworks?
When I was thinking about what would be nice to see them doing I thought that, since Hasetsu is on the sea, fireworks could be a good idea. Since the concept is SNS and candid shots the footage would be made by a slideshow of still pictures, therefore we could use the kind of pictures taken with the camera shutter left open to effectively show the traces of light drawn by the fireworks. I paid attention to sensuality, not just in this scene but in the whole ED. I thought that motifs of fireworks and water would be good to represent the beauty of colors and of the trained bodies of figure skaters. —The last shot is also with fireworks, but it only has Yuuri in it.
Actually, before thinking of the three of them playing with fireworks, the first image that popped into my mind was Yuuri dancing alone. The first storyboard also started with a picture of “Ice Castle Hasetsu” seen from the outside. However, there are episodes ending with Ice Castle Hasetsu too, so it would have been boring to have the ED start with that too, and that’s when I thought that it would be interesting to add Victor and Yurio to Yuuri’s solo scene that I had imagined first. Lots of love for the characters! Inside stories about how the candid shots were born.
—The SNS pictures of the skaters are also very realistic. It seems that the fans are curious about what is written in the captions too.
The production team recreated the social media screens very carefully, from the account name to the icons, and we made them slide fast on purpose so that it would be difficult to read the text. After all the ED is meant to show the names of the staff, and we thought that it wouldn’t be nice if some other text caught the viewers’ attention too much (LOL).
—It’s also realistic that the number of “likes” for every character is different. Some characters will enjoy writing long posts, while others like Seung-gil only write one word. I really think that the pictures are successful in representing each character’s personality. —How did you decide the order of appearance of the candid shots?
We didn’t follow this pattern for all of them, but since this show is set in various parts of the world, I decided to pay attention to the time difference. The shots in Europe are set around noon and the ones in Asia from evening to night. The director also said that “they come from different countries and live in different places, so there is a time difference”, therefore I tried to reflect this in the pictures. —What did you have a hard time with?
I was the only member of the staff working on this, so the schedule was quite tight (LOL). I thought about how to make it the most effective while still being something that I would be able to do alone. However, and this is not just regarding “Yuri on Ice”, it’s not like I had a hard time. I’m the type who tends to forget any hardship when it’s over (LOL). —Who is the character that caught your attention the most?
I like Victor. I like that, even though he always acts as he pleases, only thinking about himself and not really the others, he also has a playful side and you can’t hate him. Working on this series I could really feel the love that Mitsurou Kubo-san, director Yamamoto and the rest of the staff have for the characters. They really like everyone. That’s also why I naturally felt that I should express “love” in my work as well. —Are there any shots that you had to cut and never saw the light of day?
There was a shot with Yuuri and Victor eating soba. It’s a dish of Hasetsu and you eat it topped with various kinds of ingredients, but since Yuuri tends to gain weight easily he just ate soba without anything on it. While Victor looked all pleased with his soba full of toppings. Unfortunately, when putting the pictures in order we realized that there were too many and it would become chaotic, so we had to cut it. —Did the way you look at figure skating change after you worked for this series?
It feels much closer than before. I didn’t even know that skaters posted pictures on the SNS. It happened that I started checking them out as a reference, but they were so interesting that before I knew it I’d spent lots of time just doing that… —The show is getting closer to the climax.
I’m happy to see that the show is getting a huge response. I feel that Kubo-san and director Yamamoto’s overflowing love for figure skating and the characters is reaching the viewers. I still don’t know how it ends either, so I’m very curious to see whether Yuuri and Victor will be able to win this tournament. Please watch over their battle until the end!
**Captions**
Tumblr media
Fireworks on the beach On Hasetsu’s beach. Yurio is covering his ears because he is not used to Japanese stick fireworks that you hold in your hand. In the beginning he’s cautious, but then he gets carried away and starts waving it around. Maybe he will try to shoot at Yuuri the type of fireworks that you place on the ground (LOL).
Tumblr media
Wine is the protagonist? This is a picture uploaded on the SNS by a skater and it’s just the landscape. It’s set in France and it’s meant to show that he is just leisurely drinking wine. It would look a bit too crowded to only put pictures of people, so I added this to have a visual break.
Tumblr media
Christophe Giacometti The figure skating season is from autumn to winter, and summer is a time for vacation. In this scene he relaxes at home playing with his cat. This is based on something director Yamamoto said in a meeting: “it would be nice if all the skaters had a pet”, and “Giacometti would have a cat”. When I asked her about Christophe’s image she said “anyway, sexy”, and I spent quite some time wondering how I could express sexiness in your everyday life (LOL).
Phichit Chulanont He’s buying some snacks to eat from Bangkok’s food stands. He likes SNS, and he’s probably looking for new stuff to post and uploading his selfies every day, therefore I thought it would be nice to use a really simple everyday life scene. I drew it so that it would look like it’s conveying “I’m having fun!” and “this is delicious!”.
Seung-gil Lee Together with his pet dog in his house in Korea. The dog is a Siberian husky. At the meeting I was told that Seung-gil isn’t really interested in fashion, so I made his casual clothes very plain and uninteresting. Originally I was planning to show him very loosely idling around at home in a sweat shirt, but I though maybe that was too much (LOL) and I changed it to this version.
Tumblr media
Michele Crispino The siblings spending some free time together. They are taking a souvenir photo in front of the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore in Florence. Michele looks like he’s having fun with his beloved sister.
Jean-Jacques Leroy JJ is spending his time off at a high-class hotel in Singapore where celebrities gather. I drew him as someone with a satisfactory real life, as if he’s saying “I’m going to a party” (LOL). He looks like he would always be surrounded by girls, but to be considered toward his fans he’s taking the picture so that you can’t see the girls’ faces. He’s the only one looking at the camera.
Otabek Altin A picture from when he goes back to his country Kazakhstan during his time off. It’s taken on a very long escalator in a station of the subway. I made some research about Kazakhstan sceneries, but I couldn’t find anything that gave me a good idea for a situation with Otabek. When I consulted with the director, she told me about this long escalator.
Tumblr media
Guang-Hong Ji The picture is taken in front of a sports center and shows him going to practice with his new bicycle. This is also based on something I heard from the director. She said that one day, when she went to watch a figure skating tournament in a certain country, she spotted one of the skaters going to the arena with their bicycle. I thought it was amusing that it was like he’s just going to play in the neighborhood, and I created this situation.
Yuuri and Victor facing each other on a train Yuuri and Victor coming back from practice. I didn’t really mean it to be a parting picture, but the setting sun coming in from the window and the symmetrical layout give the scene a slightly melancholic and lonely feeling. I wanted to use a vehicle, and for this scene I used as a model a train that is actually running in Kyushu*. I carefully researched the interior too when drawing it. [*translator’s note: It should be the 305 Series train that runs on the Karatsu line, look it up on Wikipedia and you’ll see that the seats are like that]
Tumblr media
Yuri Plisetsky A picture of him waiting for the train on his way back from practice, in St. Petersburg in Russia. Since he’s a punk he’s lying on the bench sideways checking his phone (LOL).
Yurio and the lion statue Together with the lion statue in front of a museum in St. Petersburg. Since in Hasetsu Yurio was attracted by an animal T-shirt, I was looking around to see if there was a good place that could be used to show his punkiness. With this lion & lion picture I obtained the effect I was looking for.
Tumblr media
Victor Nikiforov This is Victor taking a selfie as he’s going on a drinking spree in Nakasu, a place in Kyushu (LOL). In the anime he was also shown going to eat Nagahama ramen while having Yuuri and Yurio practice “eros” and “agape”, so I wanted to draw a picture in the style “meanwhile, Victor… (LOL).
Sneak shot of Yuuri and Victor Victor arranging Yuuri’s hair when they are trying out costumes at Yuuri’s house. I created this picture aiming for an indirect, subtle sensuality. I guess the sneak shot was probably taken by the 3 skating otaku sisters (LOL).
Tumblr media
By the sea 1 It’s after Yurio returned home, so it’s mainly Yuuri and Victor. I aimed for a retro feeling, as if the picture was taken with a camera from the 70s. I used this scene in a moment where the ED song changes to a slow pace. Instead of showing the characters up front, I chose a soft look to give importance to the atmosphere.
Tumblr media
By the sea 2 They are getting the salt off their bodies after playing by the sea, the place is Niji no Matsubara in Kyushu. There are actually showers like this on the beach. They have this curious shape because they’re meant to be used by people facing each other. I was told that this scene was originally planned to be used in the show, but unfortunately that wasn’t possible in the end, so I decided to at least use it in the ED.
Tumblr media
Yurio full of cats Taken at the training place in Russia. The scene shows Mila having fun covering Yurio in cat plushies. Since Yurio has a cat, it’s common for fans to throw cat plushies in the rink after his performances.
Tumblr media
Yuuri and fireworks When I was creating the ED, the first image that came to my mind was Yuuri dancing alone on the beach. He’s already dancing on the ice in the show, so I wanted to make this scene different, more fluid, as if he’s dancing ballet.
Cool! Sexy! Cute! Costume designer Kayoko Ishikawa
What is interesting in designing costumes different than normal clothing
—How did you start working for the costume designs in “Yuri on Ice”?
The first instructions I received from (Sayo) Yamamoto-san concerning the design of skating costumes were to make arms and legs longer than in normal character design and to show muscles (especially on the butt and thighs). I then asked what image Chacott-san had in mind when they designed the costumes, with what image Yamamoto-san wanted to proceed, and I started working. —Could you tell us what was difficult and what was interesting about designing figure skating costumes?
The designs by Chacott-san were just full of interesting elements that you cannot find in normal clothes. While keeping the interesting parts and the overall image, I reconstructed them, simplifying them as much as possible to make them less difficult to animate and adding some extra things. At the beginning I found them hard to understand, but I gradually started having fun designing them. I aimed to make them cool! Cute! Sexy! —Do you have a favorite character?
I was shocked by the gap of Yurio and Otabek*. [*translator’s note: I believe she means the gap between their normal appearance and when they are on the ice] —What clothes would you like Yuuri, Victor and Yurio to wear except for the ones you designed this time?
Yuuri had lots of black and dark outfits, so I would like to see him wear something uselessly flashy, cool and over-the-top. Like bright red bondage…… —Bondage! (LOL) What about Victor and Yurio?
I want Victor to do the macho man costume skit Plushenko looked like he had a lot of fun doing years ago! I’m sure it would be amusing. And I would like Yurio to wear make-up and a black leather jacket like KISS (the band) over a cute coquettish ballerina costume like in the masked ball of the “Phantom of the Opera” (opera ver.). Only Yurio would be able to wear both at the same time. It would be such chaos. —Lastly, please tell us the highlights of the climax!
You will be showered with surprising developments (LOL). And the way it ends is very moving. I hope you will watch it until the end!
**Design point**
Tumblr media
Yuuri Katsuki I wanted Yuuri’s costume to be sexy, so I designed it with underwear and bondage in mind.
Victor Nikiforov For Victor I used a stoic and prince-like image. I’m glad the gradation successfully looked nice in the show.
Yuri Plisetsky Yurio’s costume is midway between stoic and neat. It’s designed in the image of feathers and flames.
Phichit Chulanont Phichit’s is a mix of neatness and cool-cuteness.
Tumblr media
Christophe Giacometti Chris’ SP was the hardest. Until it was colored I couldn’t understand what the final impression was going to be.
Jean-Jacques Leroy JJ is a crazy character, but his costume is quite conventional.
Otabek Altin I purposely incorporated a certain design in Otabek’s costume. Check it out when it airs in the show!
Leo De La Iglesia I like both the music and costume of Leo’s SP. His image reminds of Michael* and it’s both cool and cute. [*translator’s note: Michael Jackson]
Random note #1: Not sure whether I should be happy or sad that the shower scene was not featured in the anime, as I find it very beautiful how it’s shown in the ED. But I’m sad we couldn’t get to see the soba scene.
Random note #2: I’m sure no one couldn’t care less, but actually one of the pictures of the ED is set in my hometown, lol.
Random note #3: The costume designer seems such an amusing person. I mean, she wants to dress Yuuri in red bondage...! I’ve yet to see that even in fanart, lmao. Someone should draw that, AND Victor in the macho man costume AND Yurio with the ballerina dress + leather jacket and KISS make up (which by the way sounds like something he could’ve used in his exhibition performance considering the song...).
EDIT: Just a note because I’ve seen some extreme interpretation of Yuuri’s SP costume being inspired by underwear and bondage, but please remember that the costume was originally designed by Chacott, and the designer said "Since the song is performed from the point of view of a woman, I designed it with the concept of “a femme fatale who seduces men”.” (you can read the full interview here). In this interview the costume designer means that she took inspiration from how bondage and underwear look to edit the design, she doesn’t mean that within the anime the costume was created based on bondage.

5 Movie Problems That Kids Today Will Never Understand
Like everything else, movies age. Special effects look worse, popular slang and fashion are left behind, and political and social contexts shift. But sometimes, the very central dilemma of a movie becomes so outdated that the film itself is no longer relatable to modern-day audiences. Here are five examples of exactly that, delivered to you in convenient list form — a format that will never, ever become dated or strange.
5
Christmas Vacation Is About A Middle-Class Homeowner Pissed That He’s Not Getting A Huge Christmas Bonus To Cover A Pool
The holiday classic National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation remains a staple of the December basic cable movie rotation. Its most famous scene is a holiday-pressured Clark Griswold finally blowing a gasket in front of his family after he opens his highly anticipated Christmas bonus, only to find it’s a subscription to the Jelly of the Month club.
That’s not one irrelevant scene from a simpler time; the whole plot revolves around that moment. Clark is counting on this bonus so he can cover the payment for an in-ground pool, which he’s already purchased in advance to surprise his family. To anyone under the age of 50 reading this, imagine a friend of yours complaining about this today. How much sympathy could you muster?
Warner Bros. Studios“Sorry about your pool. I guess you’ll have to just use the community pool, which I also can’t afford.”

The Simpsons Freemason Conspiracy & Other Crazy New Theories
Clark is not drowning in homeowner or student loan debt, or the costs of sending two kids to college. He’s drowning in a debt of his making, trying to prematurely add a pool onto the beautiful house he already owns. He has a house in suburban Chicago, his wife doesn’t work, and he presumably has health insurance and a 401k. All those sweet “employment” perks sound like some lost fantasy city of Atlantis to Millennials entering the workforce today. And we’re supposed to share his rage at not getting a good Christmas bonus? It might have been a relatable problem to a lot of people back in the day, but explain that scene to your average “middle-class” worker now, and prepare for some rolled eyes, accompanied by the most thorough and exhaustive jerk-off motion you have ever seen.

One Hour Photo Is About A Creepy Guy Who … Looks At All Your Pictures
One Hour Photo stars Robin Williams as Sy, a professional photo developer at a local supermarket … and we’ve already confused our younger readers in several different ways. Sy befriends a family of regular customers, but his cheery professional demeanor turns sinister when we see him at home, exhaustively perusing every picture the family has ever brought him.
Fox Searchlight Pictures“Developed? Like, he added some filters?”
This scene still comes across as unsettling today, but digitize any of his actions, and we’d bet somebody reading this article is doing the exact same thing in another tab. You know, scrolling through every post on their crush’s Instagram account. Still potentially creepy behavior, but nobody’s gonna make a movie about it.
Today, this photo-obsessive mom would definitely have an Instagram, and that account would almost definitely be public, and random people would constantly be scrolling through photos of her kids’ sporting events and their family vacations all the time. She’d want the maximum number of people to see them; that’s the whole point of posting photos publicly. Really, for modern audiences, the only thing tipping them off that Sy is a creep is that haircut.
Fox Searchlight PicturesHe is clearly the love child of King Joffrey and Flo from Progressive.

In Airheads, A Band Breaks Into A Radio Station To Get Exposure
In the ’90s Comedy Central rerun staple Airheads, an amateur rock band named the Lone Rangers attempts to “make it big” by taking a local radio station hostage and forcing them to play their demo tape. The idea is that an agent will hear the single, sign them, and book them for Lollapalooza, or whatever the 1994 equivalent of Coachella was.
20th Century FoxAnd the idea of guys storming into a workplace with guns could be used in a comedy film and not horror.
Imagine a band nowadays thinking the only barrier for entry into the music business is getting their song played one time on a local radio station. Hell, depending on how media-savvy they are, you might have to explain the whole concept of radio stations to a modern kid. “It’s like a podcast mixed with Spotify, but always on. Also there are ads. Ads? Well you see, companies used to make money on things called adverti-“
There’s also the fact that the band owns TWO physical copies of their song: a reel-to-reel (which catches fire) and a cassette tape that they lose and desperately need to track down. Nowadays, anyone would have a digital file easily accessible on their phone, or a flash drive, or the damn cloud. 40 minutes of this movie would today get condensed into a 15-second scene in which Steve Buscemi re-downloads an email attachment.
20 Century Fox“What studio did you record this in?” “The laptop in my apartment.”
2
In Sixteen Candles, Nobody Remembers A Girl’s Birthday
Sixteen Candles hails from a period in human history when a person could make it through their entire day without getting 75 Facebook birthday reminders from friends, family members, and forgotten high school acquaintances with babies you’ve seen more times than a sunset.
That’s the driving force behind John Hughes’ directorial debut, wherein Molly Ringwald’s character, Sam, bemoans the fact that everybody in her life forgot her special day. Her Sweet Sixteen happens to fall one day before her sister’s wedding, so everyone in her life is too preoccupied to toss an “HBD” her way. They don’t have Facebook, Google Calendars, extremely basic knowledge of their own flesh and blood, or the ability to read a teenager’s glaring facial cues.
Universal PicturesProps to John Hughes for making a movie with an F-bomb and nudity, yet still pulling a PG rating.
Nowadays, Sam would be instantly deluged with “Happy Birthday” messages, beginning at 12:01 a.m. and continuing for three days after her birthday, at which point she would scroll through them, “like” the best ones, feel bad for not “liking” all of them, then acquiesce and spend the rest of her day politely “liking” the full 200. The 2018 version of Sixteen Candles would involve Sam checking her email and wondering, “Why am I getting a birthday wish from ‘your friends at O’Hare Long-Term Parking?'”

The Ring Is About A Video That Kills You … Unless You Share It
In The Ring, people die seven days after watching a cursed videotape. That is, unless they make a copy of the tape and show it to someone else. But this was in 2002, before the rise of the omnipresent, omnipotent YouTube.
Today, the cursed tape would get ripped immediately — probably before it even officially came out — and then copied hundreds of times, prompting response videos, parodies, and dozens of memes that would be beaten into the ground within a week.
Dreamworks Pictures“The Ring, but every time Superintendent Chalmers says the letter ‘B,’ it kills you twice as fast.”
No one would ever die from the Ring curse. Well, not for at least a few months, anyway, after which our fleeting attention spans would all shift to a clip of a bird that looks like it’s doing the Dougie or something.
Also, no one actually owns a functional VHS player anymore. Unless it was uploaded to YouTube, the tape would claim the lives of, like, two library technicians and 73 hipsters watching it ironically.
Dreamworks PicturesAs if a VHS tape could have survived that long without getting eaten in a VCR or taped over with a baseball game.

5 times Trover helped me out on my travels
I often like to think of myself as some sort of travel goddess, omniscient and full of sage wisdom and advice. Yes, yes I know everything; don’t argue.
Sigh, if only that were true. The reality is far different. Even though I’ve been traveling for almost a decade and usually alone, I still manage to catastrophically screw up from time to time, and I would never, ever presume to know everything. In fact, I’m perfectly content in the knowledge that I know very little but am always open to tips, ideas and suggestions both about travel, but also about life. I mean, we can use all the help we can get, right?
So where do I look for help when traveling? I used to use guidebooks a lot but not since moving to New Zealand where a new Lonely Planet will cost you around $50. Ironically, I rarely use blogs, and I’ve while found Instagram to be good start to feeling inspired for a trip, it doesn’t actually help that much with the actual planning. Same with Pinterest.
For the past three years my go-to app for travel planning has been Trover. I use it before, during and after my trips to help me plan, prep and then remember where I want to go and where I’ve been. It’s an app that is specifically geared towards travel, where travelers like you and me share their best tips from around the world, organized through photos and with locations tagged and by making lists. You can also search by what’s near you now, for tips. And you can use on your phone and desktop with equal ease.
I’ve talked in depth a few years ago how to use it here and I’ve blogged a few times about how exactly I used the app on a specific trip, like roadtripping the South Island in New Zealand.
Since I’ve spent the past three years talking about how to use Trover, I thought I would take the time to share a few examples of how it’s helped me on my travels around the world. Enjoy!
PS: If you don’t have Trover already, you can download it for FREE here in the App store or here on Google Play.
1. Cuddling koalas in Australia
It’s funny now that I think about it, but the very first time I used Trover was on my very first trip over to Queensland, Australia. Three years later, I’ve made that journey many times over, and Trover has always been a key part of my planning.
Before I left, I created a simple list on Trover of places I was inspired to visit in Australia called Queensland Dreamin’, where I aggregated content from other Trover users into my own inspirational list for the trip (they weren’t my images or tips). I didn’t really realize how massive Queensland is back in those days, so I was like, surely I can see them all.
I make lists in advance on Trover for two reasons: first for concrete travel tips and ideas, and secondly for generally inspiration. Since I was unprepared for how vast Queensland was, I ended up using this list more for generally planning or visual inspiration instead, like knowing I wanted to go to the Great Barrier Reef and learning I could cuddle a koala in Queensland. Tick and tick.
Once I got home, I uploaded a few of my own discoveries from my time in Queensland to the list that might help other people in the future planning trips there.
2. Chasing waterfalls in Queensland, Australia
Another great example of how Trover helped me plan a trip also involves Queensland. On that original list, I saved a tip from someone about Wallaman Falls, the tallest waterfall in Australia. Two and a a half years later, I was back in Queensland in Townsville, and I was in the vicinity of that same waterfall.
I was meant to go diving but trip got canceled due to bad weather, so I was quickly looking for things I could do instead that day. I started off by reading through my old list about Queensland and realized that Wallaman Falls was in the same region so I journeyed out there.
Boom, thanks Trover. That was one epic waterfall.
3. Last minute trip to Cordoba, Spain
My favorite feature of Trover is the what’s nearby section. In the app at the bottom, you can click “nearby” and it’ll show you discoveries of everything in your current area, starting with the closest, and moving further away as you scroll down.
To be perfectly honest, I am not the biggest travel planner. I like to wing it for the most part, but I also like to make sure I hit up a few areas I’m keen to explore when on the road. If my day is relatively open, it usually starts with my pulling up Trover in the morning over my cup of coffee (sometimes earlier in bed when I’m looking for the best cafe in town for coffee), and pouring over what’s in the area that I could see, do, explore or eat during the day.
I do this all the time traveling, and most of the time I don’t even save where these discoveries are, instead just heading off there. I’m really not that organized guys.
But one time I did do it properly was in Cordoba, Spain a while back.
Over breakfast, I made a list of Cordoba Inspirations for the few days I had in town by searching what was near me at the time. One specific example was that there was this famous gate I didn’t really know about right next to the cafe where I was having coffee. As soon I was done, I walked around outside it and then added it to my own list eventually.
I also used my inspiration list for Cordoba as a location scouting tool for specific photographs I was hoping to take and to keep it nicely organized into a list.
4. Pioneering Svalbard
This year I was lucky enough to head up to the far north in the Arctic to Svalbard, land of the polar bears. But visually I really didn’t have any expectations. Normally I have some idea of what I’ll photograph but this time I had absolutely no idea. And Trover’s discoveries of Svalbard is good but patchy, as to be expected in one of the most remote and uninhabited places in the world.
Sifting through I got an idea of a few key shots for a video I was helping make and to get the general idea of what I might be seeing so I could prepare. The real work came when I got home.
I meticulously went through my notes and compared them to the expedition ship’s logs in order to put together the first proper guide of all of Svalbard up on Trover to help others.
5. Eating my way through Whistler
Finally, I just got home from a weeklong winter vacation in Whistler, Canada. On the flights over, I browsed through Trover to get a rough idea of extra activities or adventures I might be able to fit in on my trip in between snowboarding.
What surprised me was how many food discoveries there were.
Trover now has a feature where you can narrow down your destination search by types of travel, so I narrowed mine down to just food in Whistler, which in retrospect I’m not sure was wise because I definitely put on some weight while I was there.
I did eat great and now the Whistler foodie scene is one of my faves. Thanks Trover!
Do you use Trover? How do you plan your trips? Share!
Many thanks to Trover for supporting me over the years. Like always, I’m keeping it real, all opinions are my own, like you could expect less from me.

Porns Sarah Palin Opens Up About Her Triumphant Return
She is one of the most popular porn stars in the worlda woman even more famous than many of the superstar athletes she dates.
Lisa Ann said goodbye to the adult entertainment industry several years ago, launching a successful career as the host of a fantasy sports program on SiriusXM. Even after she left, Ann continued to be one of the most-searched porn stars in the world.
Though most famous for her portrayal of former politician Sarah Palin in six XXX films, including the infamous Whos Nailin Paylin?, Ann is also well known for the company she keepsnamely, hot young athletes. Known for her tight lips, Ann rarely discusses her athlete hookups, but estimates to have had hundreds of professional athletes throughout her illustrious career. She prefers sleeping with NBA players, and isnt shy about dropping hintsor putting athletes on blast when they wont stop begging, like Canucks defenseman Michael Del Zotto.
And now, at 45, shes making her triumphant return to porn.
Most adult stars who succeed outside of the business dont come back, which makes Lisa Anns return to porn all the more intriguing. Reentering an industry known to prey on the young at middle age requires a confidence most 20-somethings lack. But Ann isnt just returning to pornshe wants to change it. By pushing back against the patriarchy and redefining what it means to be in the adult community, Anns determined to help other performers find success.
When I call Lisa Ann, its late afternoon. The phone rings and I leave a voicemail. Ten minutes later she calls back, explaining how the cable guy had been running late and just left. Unfortunately, the installation didnt go as planned and Ann would have to wait to be properly serviced. It sounded just like a classic porn scenario.
When I considered coming back to porn I realized that being committed to something I love without counting the dollar has made me a better person.
Lisa Ann
Hey, at least he wasnt creepy. Thats my biggest fear, is that someones going to be in my house and creepy, says Ann. I had an air conditioner installer take pictures of the inside of my house and then post them on social media. I was mortified. I stayed in my office while he did his job, I thought I was being trusting, and here he was taking pictures of my pictures with other people.
If the A/C installer had kept the pics to himself, Ann may have never known, but he blasted them on social media and linked her in his mentions. He wrote, I was just at the real Lisa Anns house, look. And there was a selfie of the guy next to my car and I was like, Oh my god, he was in my underground parking with my car!
Not that Anns complaining too much these days. If anything, shes surprisingly appreciative for someone whos achieved the kind of crossover success she has. We have so much freedom [in the adult industry]we choose when we work, we choose this unique lifestyle, and we are getting compensated more than other people working a lot harder than us. Theres a lot to be excited about.
And to the bitter, jaded performers in the industry, Ann offers the following advice: Get a regular job for ninety days, stick to the schedule youre given, only taking a lunch break when its scheduled. Then see how you feel about porn after ninety days at a regular job.
Though Ann now has a regular job as well, she doesnt think of it so much as work due to her passion for sports radio. Im an employee and I have a boss but I love what I do, she says. I want sports twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. Im never late and Ive never canceled a show. I love being responsible and Im so grateful for it because I never knew Id have a gig like this.

Returning to porn was as much a practical, financial decision for Ann as it was an opportunity to give back. Shes made it very clear that getting back into the adult entertainment industry will not impact her career in sports radio. People dont do sports radio for the money. Its something you do because you love it. When I considered coming back to porn I realized that being committed to something I love without counting the dollar has made me a better person. I am going to be continuing on with my two shows on Sirius, and that way I dont get lost in the sauce, in the gossip, and the drama of the business.
Ann did not initially plan to return to the industry, but began toying with the idea after being approached by several adult companies. One big company came to me and offered a decent amount of money to do some scenes. Im smarter now and thought, if someone is offering me this much money then obviously I must be worth more. These are the people that know the numbers. I read a book about making deals, and the first offer is normally a quarter of your worth, so you go up maybe 75 to 100 percent, then its negotiated back down and you meet in the middle around 50 percent. I was inspired by the idea but sat on it for 10 months. I wanted to be sure about wanting to come back.
Even after mulling it over for almost a year, Ann approached her comeback cautiously. Not knowing how shed feel about doing porn again, she wanted to test it out before going public. And she did. That alone is a powerful accomplishment. Then again, Ann has proven herself to be an expert secret-keeper. When I shot my first scene in December I told no one. I made everyone keep it off social media, and hired people who I knew could keep a secret. I honestly wanted to shoot it and hold on to it to see if I felt differently about myself afterwards.
Shes an experienced porn star who isnt sure how shell feel after doing a scene. While this may sound odd to some, when she explains how society essentially congratulated her for getting out of porn it begins to make sense. People have spoken to me almost like I was a better person because I wasnt in the adult business anymore, she says. They say things I know are meant to be a compliment but its an insult because what theyre saying is that they thought less of me at one time. I never felt better or different out of the business, but those conversations made me ask myself, how will I feel when I wake up after doing another scene?
youtube
A true entrepreneur, Ann sees value in todays porn market. Shes certain there is more money for performers to make in the adult business than ever before, which runs contrary to the popular belief that porns going broke. Im the first person to understand the reality of it. Sure, you cant just go to set, shoot scenes, and go home and expect to make the same amount of money you used to. The hustle is different, she explains. Now there are all these different avenues to make money. The moneys there and its tenfold, you just have to be on your game, you have to use your downtime wisely, get paid to text, get paid to post and do these things every day.
According to Ann, the money is there for producers and directors toospecially with how easy (and cheap) content is to produce these days. Its a no-brainer. Its so much easier to produce content now, you spend one day on set, come home upload your content, upload your model releases and in one day you have a fully-produced scene. Especially when you know what you need.
Taking a new approach, Ann wants to educate the new generation of performers, offering counsel and guidance for their careersincluding what lies beyond should they one day wish to shed their stage name. The saddest thing about this business is that all the success stories leave, she says. Anyone who gets their head up and feels great decides they no longer belong here, so its important that as a woman I bring that success back. I have an open-phone policy for anybody [in the industry]. Im teaching some of the other women how to use software so they can take one day a week away from social media. I think we should all detach one day a week for mental health.
Ann also wants to help fellow performers recognizeand capitalize ontheir true market value, which is something she believes agents are not incentivized to do. I want to help these women up their game at marketing, I want to empower them with knowledge and get them to understand they are a capital-building machine right now, says Ann. They can produce their own stuff at home on their cell phones and make money all day long. Agents want to to force them to go to set because agents only make money when the girls go to set. These women need to know they arent just a product; rather, they are young entrepreneurs, and they are now living in the Silicon Valley-era of porn.
