For funsies I decided to do a few of my D&D characters in Baldur’s Gate 3. I put them below the cut so it doesn’t take up too much space on anyone’s feed!!
Tumblr media
Dimble Nackle, my first ever D&D character. She’s a Forest Gnome Rogue Thief, Urchin background.
Tumblr media
So there’s no Half-Orc option and I had to use a Gith for my Half-Orc Barbarian, Nala. She’s a Berserker Barbarian/Bard multiclass (I don’t think Baldur’s Gate has multiclass tho so I just kept her with Barbarian since that’s what she started as)
Tumblr media
Zaivine is my Tiefling Fighter Gunslinger (went off of Matthew Mercer’s homebrew for him). Sadly guns aren’t a thing in the game, so he’s a Battlemaster for this.
Tumblr media
Midna is my Drow Elf Wizard. Technically for D&D, I used a homebrew subclass (Theology so she could use some Cleric spells) but for this game she’s Evocation.
.
I do have 2 other characters that I completely forgot to do. One of them is a Triton tho and Baldur’s Gate doesn’t have that as a race option. The other is my High Elf Cleric Lyla which I could easily do, but again, I forgot and I already started making this post so whoops (she was my second-ever D&D character so she pretty much looked like a stereotypical pretty, blonde hair blue eyed elf).
Tumblr media
As a bonus I added my Spirit/Demon/Dream person that I always use no matter the character. I was told to make someone I’m attracted to and she is v pretty imo (also letting y’all know what I’m into so you can judge me).

I've been really enjoying your fic and it got me curious about how your campaign went??? I got the important parts (your Durge denied Bhaal, Shadowheart spared nightsong I think, Astarion obviously didn't ascend) but what else happened? Will we ever see any of the other companions?
Thanks for enjoying the story! I can say with pretty much certainty we won't be seeing any other canonical characters from the game, Jaheira, Minsc and Halsin would have stayed behind in Baldur's Gate, as well as Wyll. My Durge killed Lae'zel early in the game and Karlach also died at the end of my campaign.
Gale's character decided to go after the crown, and while he was the staple fourth member of my party the relationship had always been uh... Tense. This was before they apparently patched out how needy he was, but frankly it made for a really interesting story since i just kind of assumed his character was kind of a creep wearing a nice-guy's face. Also, to be fair, I DID fall for his "wanna see a magic trick" line but that just kindled the fire to my theory that he's actually a fairly manipulative person (and perhaps he's unaware of it). MIND YOU PLEASE that this doesn't mean i don't like his character - honestly i feel like I got a REALLY interesting side of him in my campaign and i wouldnt have it any other way - this was a party composed of the dark urge, Astarion, Shadowheart and GALE and to have us all turn down power and glory only for the goody-two-shoes wizard of the camp to turn kinda evil and power-hungry made for a really satisfying narrative.
... Sorry i ended up rambling about Gale LOL to actually answer the rest of your question, my campaign went like this:
I made a Fighter, champion sub-class, BIG hulking drow because i thought it would be funny. Because i went in blind I started off as a confused homicidal murderer who is a liiiittle weirded out about his urges but he doesnt stress TOO much about it. Is fairly standoffish and distrusting toward all of his companions which made for a weird start. Motivated by gold, killing things, getting this worm out his head and making off-color jokes. Ends up siding with the Tieflings because i also decided that, as a very hedonistic character who thinks we should be lunatics because we want to rather than because a cult is telling us to be, my durge would profoundly hate the absolute. As a male drow he also really hated Minthara so yeah, easy choice there. As mentioned above, I also killed Lae'zel when she tried to murder-suicide everybody.
I wasn't going to fuck anyone, believe it or not, so during the tiefling party i went with Gale because it SEEMED like he just wanted to show me something neat (it ended early because i failed his checks and i guess he can't get hard unless i can cast fireball). Also, at this point even though i made mostly "good" moral choices i *was* still a dick the whole time - despite this, everyone in camp wanted to fuck me BESIDES Astarion, which was so fucking funny and devastating that I decided my Durge would, from that moment on, turn on the charm and the flattery and make it his mission to bang him. So yes, they were manipulating each other. I don't have to explain why that made for a really really fun little dynamic. Also Astarion had to tell me he was a vampire through dialogue instead of biting me and i got to say "yeah duh" which was hysterical.
I finally banged him sometime during the underdark (didn't go to the creche at all) and during Act 2 I followed the same pattern of doing mostly the Good Thing while being arrogant the whole time, I fell into a kind of chaotic-neutral/true-neutral aligment and watched my little homicidal maniac cluelessly stumble his way into a hero's journey. I had also really grown to like Shadowheart at that point after having a really negative first impression of her character and she basically became my durge's best friend. Astarion also grew on me for all the reasons we know and love and he did his confession to me sometime in late act 2. I Never met Araj (though i think i mention her in the fan story only because her interaction is interesting) so I got the dialogue that isn't prompted by her encounter. I also had to "break up" with Gale at this point which boy that sure came as a surprise to me! I also didnt break the shadow curse.
Because I didnt kill isobel (Again, my guy didnt like people telling him what to do or not to do), my little butler guy made me wanna kill Astarion. I SWEAR this happened pretty late in game, maybe even in the first night in baldur's gate which i realize is unusual. Naturally I didnt and I decided that would be the turning point where my Durge decides to not just Go With The Flow of things but actively fight his urge and pursue its root cause. He tried to be more of a good person from that point on which was kind of a clumsy effort lol
He completely antagonized the emperor immediately upon him revealing his true identity, stole the orphic hammer from Raphael's house, betrayed Gortash after setting an "alliance" with him, killed Orin (she kidnapped the orphan and killed her in front of me because i failed the check :| ) stopped Astarion from ascending and helped Shadowheart kill everyone in the house of grief, i let her make her own choice regarding her parents and she decided to kill them. I also encouraged her to not immediately align with the Selunites just because of her past.
I got Astarion the thing that helps him read the necromancy book and i cannot tell you how satifyins it was that, after giving up unspeakable power by killing Cazador, that dude and his little ghoul army basically mauled Orin and her grandad for me practically by themselves while I was down on the floor with 1 health. PROUD OF YOU BUDDY.
Gale spoke to Mystra as well at some point and i swear I NEVER encouraged that guy to take the crown for himself. It was always either "do whatever you want" or "i think thats a shitty idea." At this point my Durge was super sick of him so they had a bit of a crappy relationship which may have something to do with how things turned out.
I betrayed the emperor, released Orpheus and when he asked if any of us wanted to be a mindflayer i went "Fuck No" big time and luckily the guy just did it for me. Chaos ensues, I kill the emperor and the absolute in an epic battle that took me like a whole day. I also killed Orpheus when he asked me to. Karlach died ( :c ) and Gale told me he was gonna fuck off to get the crown. In the final Astarion dialogue I told him we would find a way to get him to walk under the sun again.... AAAAAnd thats it i think? Man this game is huge lmao i swear i wasnt trying to be long-winded.

I think it would've been funny if instead of being a dragonborn by default, the Dark Urge was literally an actual white dragon.
For shenanigans.
[Disclaimer that this idea is ridiculous and I don't care.]
The bhaalspawn plot twist is largely obvious to players of BG1+2 and those who've already completed the game. Who'd see the twist that you've forgotten that you're dragon in disguise coming? If you play another origin they'd make a good excuse to add a brainstealer dragon boss battle. Alternatively, if you take the ceremorphosis ending, you play as one.
Plus white dragons instinctually lean towards being brutal, vengeful little bastards in a manner Bhaal would probably approve of and due to their slow development would be very easy to corrupt from a young age… but my motivation is still mostly for shenanigans.
Living most of their life in a city, I imagine they're used to being in humanoid form. They had a sibling rivalry with Abazigail, as the only other dragon they know ("White dragons are weaker and inferior to Blues." - "I'm sorry, I'm too stupid to remember something, can you remind me? Of the two of us, who's a dead failure who disappointed Father?").
They got shanked by Orin in humanoid form and just woke up with brain trauma and assumed they were whatever humanoid they appear to be. Sure they have some ancestral draconic memory and speak draconic, but that's just a sign of having a dragon ancestor. It's not that weird! It might also seem strange when they start growling at the Githyanki dragon steeds, but going by some dialogue Durge growls at people anyway so it won't even stand out that much. At least the "human flesh smells tasty" thing makes sense now?
Lacking any memories of past enemies to plot against, dragon Durge simply adds their new friends' enemies to their list of grudges.
Those of us who play by looting everything in sight and refusing to share it with the party members have a valid reason; dragon hoard. Yes I do need to break my back carrying all of the money, enchanted weapons and six thousand books I'll never read; no, we're not selling any of it, fuck off.
We get to act 3 and the party gets the Bhaalspawn reveal possibly followed up by "also I'm a dragon." ("what the Actual Fuck.") Gale has already formed a hypothesis about Durge's true species, but we should also get to play Sharks Are Smooth over it. You get the standard -30 disapproval from Gale, but if Astarion is there he'll also want to play and you get 30 approval from him and Gale's disapproval doubles to -60.
Lae'zel as our resident horse dragon girl would rather travel with a red, but perhaps a mere white dragon will do for a steed in the meantime. It's training for her future, you understand.
I want to pick up Mizora with teeth and shake her like a dog with a chewtoy when she invades my camp to torment Wyll and refuses to leave. Maybe throw her around like an orca with a seal…
Romanced Wyll, Shadowheart or Gale introducing them to their parent/s (+Tara, in Gale's case) would be fun to watch.
Duke Ravenguard has hopefully learnt his lesson about not jumping to conclusions and hearing Wyll out and showing some tolerance for what appears to be an evil alliance, but a chromatic dragon sired by the god of murder who's also a reformed serial killer might be putting some tension on that... Maybe leave some details out.
The Hallowleaves are remembering the tolerance their Selûnite faith espouses and that they too are a loving couple involving one person who is technically a monster but I feel like Arnell is still on some level internally going; whatthefuckwhatthefuckwhatthefuck.
I think Ms Dekarios will be mostly unphased. She's a wizard herself and Gale's been bringing weird shit into her life since he was born. Her son came home with a dragon for a fiancé/e. Sure. Must be Tuesday.

Obsessed with this stupid idea i had with the durge
Some spoilers?, but just in case. Don't click more lol, i guess spoilers for act 1 and 2 of a good guy durge play through with mentions of what actually happened to them.
Okay, so, I love the idea that a good Durge, one that doesn't want to kill, has never wanted to kill. Problem was; the urge was simply too strong. They didn't have a say, so they gave in.
Gortash knows this, hes the Durge's (at minimum) friend. He understands that the Durge hates the urge, and he starts working trying to find a way to help his friend. (We know gortash is actually fuckin smart since he made the brain reader thing in moonrise and designed the steelwatch so its not that crazy of an idea that he'd try and find a way to help his friend)
Cue Orin doing the whole backstab thing and Gortash is 2 things. 1. Fucking pissed because that was HIS friend. He liked them! Sure they were blood thirsty but they were a helluva lot better than Orin. And 2. He hopes that because of the damage Durge sustains (see the one lady in moonrise who tells durge about how she literally had to stitch them back together) Orin some how fucked something up and freed them from the urge. After all, the chosen of Bhaal not being blood thirsty would look pretty damn ridiculous.
Cut to waking up on the beach, the urge is not gone but for the first time in their life (even though they don't know it) the urge is subdued. The tadpole fucks everything up, changing Wyll from a badass warlock to a much weaker one, and i think before Gale gets the worm hes a hella powerful wizard (kind of has to be? Mediocre isnt going to impress the literal goddess of magic) but when you help him from the rune hes incredibly weak. ANYWAY this helps the idea that the tadpole fucks with urge too. So while the newly awaken Durge is scared of the urge, its so much better than before and much easier to push back.
Cue act 3, meeting gortash and he's not surprised (but sad) that the durge doesn't remember him. Oh well. At least his friends happy.
I like to think the durge and gortash have a talk right before gortash gets his ass kicked by the party and Gortash asks if the urge is gone and they finally remember something and tell him that "yeah, its better at least. Thanks for trying to help." Bcause damnit friendships that don't get a resolution deeply upset me.
Anyway my ramble over, idk if this even made sense.

4, 16 and 21 for the tav questions!
Thank you, omg, somehow I did not anticipate one of these 😅. Also I'm doing this for both my Tavs because I love Mardora & Guemarir equally
4: What would your Tav's romance scenes look like? How many would they have?
For Mardora, I think she'd have 4 if you picking her to spend time with at the Tiefling party counts? The first one/tiefling party would be pretty lowkey & sweet. Drinking together to celebrate & having a quick little kiss before Mardora sends Tav/Durge to bed because "we should make this choice with clearer heads;" the second one (also in Act 1) would be a "we have clear heads now" followup. Third scene is after you've unlocked some quest progression you can only do in Act 2/learned her backtory & Tav/Durge gets the option to be like "Mardora, you don't have to take care of me, let me take care of you this time" (save her from being a people pleaser, please). And then finally, in Act 3, there'd be a really sweet star gazing scene where she talks to Tav/Durge about dwarf stuff & reveals she's been calling them the sappiest, most intimate-&-reserved-for-life-partners pet-name in existence ever since hitting "excellent" opinion/reaching Act 3 (depending on when you hit scenes/vs approval)
Guemarir feels a little tougher to figure out because you are definitely, 100% able to flirt with him from moment 1. You meet that man & you are immediately able to tell him how pretty he is & how much you want to hit (because believe me bestie, he's doing the same). I think he'd have more than Mardora just by virtue of his own sluttery. Maybe 5? I do not know what is a normal amount of romance scenes because I've only finished Lae'zel's & I'm maybe only halfway done with Astarion's? This ain't about them though.
So I think Guemarir's tiefling party night would be him promising to stop being a tease & finally give Tav/Durge that dick after the party's died down & he's not entertaining people with his ✨️dulcet tones✨️ anymore. The second scene is about Guemarir having tiefling angst & daddy issues because by this point the refugees are on the way to Baldur's Gate & you've definitely encountered his dad, so he's having a rare moment of depth; Tav/Durge has the option to comfort him & give him a lil smooch, mayhaps cuddle by the fire at camp. Scene 3 is at the beginning of Act 2, & Guemarir apologizes for his moment of vulnerability "won't happen again, silly manwhore hours only from here on out," & Tav/Durge can talk him through not having to put on a persona with them because of sincere feelings. Guemarir is taken aback, but jazzed because this is new territory for him. Scene 4 is Guemarir trying very, very hard to take Tav/Durge on a "date" at camp; he made dinner, there's a tablecloth on a stump, he lit candles, he plays a love song on his lyre. It's very precious & he is doing his best to do sincere romance instead of "wham, bam, thank you ma'am/man." Last scene is in Act 3, Guemarir invites Tav/Durge to hang out with him & he has a really sweet talk with them about being grateful for them giving him the opportunity to have a romantic relationship instead of just a bunch of random hookups, Guemarir & Tav/Durge can fuck at the end of this scene, though.
16: What do they do for fun when not adventuring? What are their hobbies?
Mardora is a huge book worm, she reads a lot when not adventuring. Maybe not as much reading as Gale, but enough to discuss books with everyone's favorite magic item eating wizard to a pretty satisfying capacity on his end. She also keeps a very meticulous journal, & she knows how to make jewelry. She's not good at it, but she can do it, & being able to do something even kinda rudimentary with metal is a source of pride for her because Dwarf.
Guemarir's whole thing is being a wandering bard (and slut), so he's mostly just playing music. I feel like he's dabbled in poetry & writing his own compositions, but never in any kind of serious way he likes showing to people. He also knows a lot about tea & is a pretty decent cook!
21: Describe a defining moment from their past which makes them who they are today!
When Mardora was the dwarf equivalent to, like, 10, she got separated from her mom while they were out-and-about, & it was a priest of Moradin who calmed little Mardora down & helped her. That plus getting the virtues of the dwarffather & of helping others in a personal, one-on-one way while looking for her mom left a big impression & very much laid the foundations for a lot of later events that turned her into the Mom Friend Ultimate Good Guy she is by the start of the game.
13-year-old Guemarir was forever altered when he met his dad for the first time & found out he's the son of his mom's patron. Until then he just kind of...had not questioned why a half-elf's kids were tieflings? He probably had some theories about a tiefling baby daddy, but learning him & his 2 siblings are fully a devil's kids & that he's got boocoo half siblings left an impression. Especially since his dad is just, like, really invested in having a lot of (his own) kids at his disposal "if he needs them." That whole thing just really made him...kinda judgemental & gave him some very, very hard stances on making deals with devils.

I finally got bg3 and now i can draw for it without feeling like a fake fan :D so some first thoughts are in order I think.
1. I'm head over heels for gale. I really thought I'd be an astarion or a karlach kinda gal, and don't get me wrong, i am, but I fell in love with gale the moment I pulled him out of the portal and he immediately started on a rant giving me all the tadpole lore he had available.
2. I cried over how frickin sweet and compassionate karlach is. *spoilers* I don't remember her exact words, but when I told her about how gales ex wants him to blow himself up for her "forgiveness" karlach was so aggressively compassionate, saying something along the lines of "any God who tells you to blow yourself up, is no God worth worshipping" and I love her so so so much, for her compassionate wisdom and for who she is as a person.
3. The music is actually frickin incredible. I hadn't heard any of the music before I bought the game, I assumed it was good because games like that usually have a big emphasis on music, but goodness gracious, I wasn't ready for it to knock my socks off like that. genuinely breathtaking.
4. I don't like to swear, but fuck death shepherds. they are the most obnoxious freaks I've ever had the displeasure of coming across, I hope they step on Legos and trip into the fiery pits of hell, where they'll be forced to fight their own kind without the use of their own magic.
5. Scratch is the best boy. I would die for him.
6. I don't want to hate on anyone's choices in favorite characters, but I cannot stand shadowheart. I'll probably be eating my words once I get to know her better, but I sincerely wish she'd shut up about her goddess. I'm currently in the middle of doing shar's gauntlet, and she keeps bringing up the fact that she was "meant to be here", and that "shar must favor her somehow". Like, bestie... that can't possibly be a good thing. From my understanding, most of the gods in this game are actually trash, like dumpster fire levels of horrid. Like mystra asking gale to kill himself for her forgiveness, or whatever tf the absolute is, or shar taking peoples memories and lives if they stay in her shadow realm without a light source for too long. And I don't want to victim blame or anything. I think she mentioned she was raised in the church, so I imagine all this was forced into her head from a very young age. It just wears on me a little, that's all.
7. Everyone wants to get with me EXCEPT gale. I love him to bits, but man he's a challenge to romance ((and i would like to say, i really do love the platonic love my tav and gale have for each other, it's really sweet)). Shadow heart invited me to drink with her at the party, I ended up having to load a save because I'm terrible at rejection and I didn't want to romance her.
Next, I went to camp and the game immediately forced me into a dance cutscene with wyll, I once again had to load a save because I'm terrified of rejection. And gale is just like "wow, you're such a good friend :))" and I'm more than happy to be his friend, don't get me wrong. I just want to cuddle my wizard under the stars while we talk about our favorite interests, is that so much to ask?
But over all, this game is incredible. I've been playing nonstop for the last three days or so, it's really been a joy. Now I just need to figure out how to draw all of my favorite characters so I can post a bunch of scribbles >:))

So, some thoughts and screenshots on the first few hours of BG3 --
Indyara is my Half-Elf Bard. She's a character I have played in several D&D games, wanting to find a game where her backstory mattered and we actually finished the game. I'm actually in that game right now, playing every other Saturday morning, though there was one other game it... almost worked out for her.
Bard is my favorite D&D class, going back to when I played one in a 3/3.5e game for several years in the early 2000's, and I played BG1 & 2 with one.
Decently high CHA (16) but not sacrificing INT, DEX, and CON (14) while having a bad WIS (9) and STR (8). Let's see how that works out for her.
High Half-elf for that sweet CHA bonus and getting Firebolt, so I have an actual useful damaging cantrip. (Do not ask me for my diatribe about why everyone is wrong about Vicious Mockery being a good spell unless you want an earful.)
Absolutely fuming that they still are leaving the version number up and it's visible in screenshots. Cannot believe that oversight. Also that they leave menu buttons visible in cutscenes, what the fuck Larian? Found out last night that apparently hitting f10 should stop that, but that removes the entire UI and obviously you need to turn it back on. But for now my entire first day's of screenshots and videos look like ass and I'm mad about it.
Lots of screenshots and commentary below the cut. I didn't make it too far in-game and honestly I don't talk about the plot much.
Tumblr media
Hey, look lady, we're both stuck here. Indy is very patient and diplomatic, whatever it takes to make it through every day as unscathed as possible, but this one might try that patience. At least she's useful. Let's see if we can make a friend.
Tumblr media
Indy did save Shadowheart from her pod, but the way she and Lae'zel bicker is already giving her a headache.
Tumblr media
Well this certainly is a development, and I'm sure whoever these two are will be completely unimportant in the hours to come.
Tumblr media
I told myself I wasn't going to savescum when I failed a roll, but look, I'm not about to let Indyara Nat 1 on a CHARISMA check about magic when she very first meets the future love of her life. I reloaded this one.
Tumblr media
Indy's initial impression on meeting Gale: a few seconds of "Wait, THIS is the one I'm going to fall in love with?" met with "Oh. I get it." a few seconds later. Very smart, polite, charming and funny? Sign me up, please.
Tumblr media
Plus, we look great in screenshots together.
(Indy's hair is definitely lighter in sunlight than I intended, her hair was supposed to be brown with pink streaks (for bardic flair) but it comes out looking dark honey in direct sun. Ah well.)
Tumblr media
A few minutes later though "Wait, this one is as charming and me, and extremely heroic? Are you SURE we made the right choice? They're both great. Can't we have them both?"
(Sorry Indy, we don't need two high-CHA characters in the main party. He's saved for another playthrough.)
Tumblr media
Oh come ON. This isn't fair. Another one?
Poly mod... when? Or at least a list of who is officially OK with poly in-game? Shadowheart is growing on me, too, after a bit of a rough introduction.
Tumblr media
I'm sorry, Astarion. I already took a level dip in rogue to be the party trap/lock skill monkey since we're bringing along the Wizard, Cleric and, for now at least, the fighter. (We'll see how long that lasts. This game needs more tank companions. Though I don't mind companions that are challenging, generally.)
Tumblr media
I love having a camp again. Need better camp clothes, though, for all of us. I did do the Twitch Stream unlock thing, but haven't found those rewards in-game yet. Anyone?
Tumblr media
Literally already started unlocking the Gale romance by the time I was just wandering around the Emerald Grove area. He loves almost every decision I make and I'm glad of it.
Tumblr media
...of course there's a catch.
Tumblr media
Hahahaha holy shit, Volo! I love being a bard in this game and loved bullshitting Volo, and he loved knowing he was getting bullshitted.
Tumblr media
See, wasn't this a nice time, ladies, listening to this other bard sing? Let's have less bickering, more listening to Bards. <3
Tumblr media
Astarion... I'm just not into Vampires. At least not with this character. Still, I like you. I wish I could have offered to help him find food here instead of just sending him away, but I let him down easy.
Tumblr media
Indy found a cute hat at camp and is wearing the FUCK out of it. I mean look at her! And it helps with song of rest! (though it does considerably shorten her hair, but hey, it's a MAGIC hat so that's just part of the magic.)
Tumblr media
I've played a Larian game or two before so I picked up Speak with Animals as one of my first level spells and do not regret it. However, I feel like I didn't help this Owlbear enough, though I let her and her cub be. Probably missed out on something cool here. Again, I'll pick it up in another playthrough. I'm trying to not google for answers to every puzzle this time and just play through blind.
Tumblr media
OH HOLY SHIT WHAT DID I WALK IN ON. I'M SO SORRY FOR YOU AND FOR ME.
Tumblr media
Oh no, Gale is into some other woman... oh wait that's Mystra. I get it, you're a wizard. And I'm a smart Lore bard who's also very into magic so uh, let's make some magic happen? Also, sorry we got this cutscene when Gale was at like 2hp so he's all bruised up. I love that it shows on the character models though.
Tumblr media
Ohhh wait you DO want to make magic together? I'm down with that, and got to put bardic flourishes on all my responses to Gale's instructions. I LOVE this game, I LOVED this scene. Though I hate what the magic VFX did to Indy's face here.
Tumblr media
Oh my God, is this the first flirt scene!?! Tell me it's the first flirt scene!!
Tumblr media
I imagined slipping my hand into his hand on a romantic walk and... he liked it. This was very, very sweet. And getting to flirt over a shared love of magic was... *chef's kiss*
Tumblr media
I'm also making great progress with Shadowheart. Okay, we can be BFFs. <3
Tumblr media
Things to come indeed, Gale.
----
In Early Access I didn't get very far and honestly I think last night I made it about as far as I ever made then, or close to it. I basically went "Whelp I love this game, I don't want to spend my time playing through this now when I can go through it fresh later in like a year." (and then it was THREE, but that's fine.)
I'm fighting Phase Spiders but fuck that, I might come back when we all hit level 4. That fight sucked. I am trying to make "good" choices but have probably really screwed some stuff up. i feel bad that Astarion and Wyll get left at camp but they don't fit into my party makeup (I think I'll do a Paladin next and bring both of them along instead of Gale and Lae.)
Absolutely love all of the chances to shortcut quests and fights by Barding / persuading / lying my way out of it. So few things I don't love so far, though I definitely feel like I'm stumbling my way through the dark, not knowing if I'm doing the right things.
Can't wait to do almost nothing this weekend but play BG3. A full day of work, first, though. :(

i realized im not gonna get the tiefling achievement my current playthru :( bcuz of my choices but i get to suck and fuck astarion so that's a win 4 me
i did this playthru to try some weird builds w astarion and gale and then try more weird respecs for other characters (im gonna make shadowheart a wizard maybe? i want to make wyll a sorcerer potentially)
idk if ill play more bg3 after i finish this playthru. i think my next one would probably be trying tactician with a different tav background or doing resist durge. i also have not romanced shadowheart at all (all other characters i've had at least 1 romance scene w except shadowheart...tbh she unfortunately is my least favourite companion. if i had to do a ranking of the main 6:
astarion (duh, he grew on me, i bring him everywhere, he is in my party 99% of the playthrough)
lae'zel (i use her a lot during act 1, and she's a real one, but i feel like she doesn't get much (if anything) in act 2. she died in one of my playthrus cuz orin took her and i legit cried)
wyll (i love him, he's so wholesome. i didn't use him much my first playthru but my second one he was w me 99% of the time to keep me in check)
karlach (i love her too, i was too mean to her when romancing her tbh. sorry for cheating on you like 5 times. but idk, i don't have as much of an attachment to her as a lot of ppl bcuz i killed her my first playthru, she was in and out of my party my second playthru, and then my last one i was evil durge so she and wyll left. it felt weird to get wyll's father w/o wyll lmaooo (i needed the buff))
gale (weirdly enough, my friends think im a huge gale lover/defender but like, his story is insane and he's sweet, from waterdeep, and has a tressym and a library, so like, king, but also i feel like ppl tend to exaggerate so much about him. like yes, he is a wet sock of a man, but also i feel like people either think he's a harrier dubois type or like, "burned your crops and plagued the land". he's just some wizard who thinks he's cooler/better than he is and is hyperfixated on magic. he's a little dumb (booksmart not street smart), but he means well, but can be swayed into doing dumb things. idk. i feel like gale and astarion are both mischaracterized by the fandom where astarion is like "uwu babey" and gale is like "evil malicious" when i'd probably say gale is chaotic good (and most of the characters are) where astarion is more chaotic neutral. tbh i'd say most of the companions are chaotic good if i had to align them.)
shadowheart
if i put the secondary companions, it'd probably be this:
astarion
lae'zel
wyll
jaheira (having her in act 3 is so good...she has so many interactions it's amazing. also her sass.)
karlach
gale
halsin (he feels correctly tacked on in the romance department, but he's very lacking in act 3)
shadowheart
minthara (feels too much like an after thought)
minsc (he's a meme and nothing more)

those act 1 asks for ur durge as requested!!! 2, 17, 19, 23, 27, 44 (i hope this isnt too many questions) -@veilkeeper
@veilkeeper Ahhh I'm so excited to talk about Vesper it's definitely not too many questions!!
Just to give some background, my current character is a custom dark urge, a half-drow divination wizard named Vesper.
2 - Was there something about the character creator that just couldn't capture your Character?
Yes actually. I always imagined Vesper as very androgenous which doesn't really translate well in the character creator since you can't play with face shape (I will say that their face has grown on me though). After learning that Kressa Bonedaughter was out there taking them apart on the reg I imagine they also have some intense scarring on their chest and abdomen. I actually gave them the large over the eye scar before I learned about Orin's attack, so I like to imagine that's where that came from.
17 - What does your Character think of Withers?
Sticking with just stuff from act 1, Vesper desperately wants to dissect Withers to find out what his whole deal is, they are just insanely curious (and have big slightly unethical wizard energy - this is one way I sort of imagine the Bhaalspawn thing creeping in even as they try to resist the urge). After he refuses to bring back Alfira this gets a little more intense, but they're also very afraid of him as well, since he seems to know what's going on with them but won't say. It ends up in this swirl of gratefulness that he helps their companions/ugly desire to pull him apart and see what makes him tick/resentment at him for not helping Alfira/fear at what he might know (because they're starting to get the sense that something is wrong with them and that they weren't a great person before). It's a wildly complex swirl of emotions that starts to change only when they meet Arabella in the shadowlands in act 2.
19 - Did your Character spend a night with a companion either the night of the party or earlier? Is it someone they have a continued interest in?
They spent the night of the party with Gale. A fellow wizard who loves magic like they do? Of course they were into him. Even though not a lot happened that night they're still hopeful since he seemed flattered by the attention and interested in turn (though the orb is complaining things at the moment). With Elminster's visit at the end of act 1, they're also just very concerned about him and his plans/state of mind, though that will really come into force in act 2.
23 - What are your Character's thoughts on the dream visitor?
Oh man. So since I went into this mostly blind I really didn't know much about the dark urge's backstory or the dream visitor. The original version of Vesper's dream visitor was another half-drow, since half-drow really seem to get it from all sides (the drow don't like them for not being drow enough, all the non-drow races seem to think they're too drow to be trusted) so I thought that would be a good dream guardian, and then made them basically way more beautiful (so someone Vesper could find both desirable and desirable-to-be) and possibly able to pass as a regular half-elf (again to add to the better and more desirable version of me feeling). So Vesper has this person who they very much want to trust (and be and love) but who they are ultimately very suspicious of because, yknow, everyone is talking about the dream visitor and this all started when they got their tadpole, so... Ultimately I think they really really want to trust them but are too suspicious in nature to really do so. I do think that intense desire to trust does sometimes sway them in the dream visitor's favor though.
Now that I've seen more of the dark urge's backstory though, I think my new vision for their dream visitor is actually a half-drow version of Gortash. That way I get to keep a lot of the stuff I outlined above but also get the delicious agony of them being drawn so strongly to this visitor for reasons they don't quite understand to just amp up all those emotions even higher and further intensify the conflict between their rational intelligent side (they're a wizard, they have 20 int) and this desperate emotional side.
27 - Who ended up in your Character's most used party?
Gale and Astarion were pretty much always in my party, Gale because I was planning on doing his romance and I like having a second caster for more coverage and Astarion because I needed a lockpicker (plus I love that sneak attack damage). The third spot was a little more variable, but was usually either Karlach or Shadowheart to round out the party, either because I needed healing or a good frontliner, or sometimes whoever I thought was most fun at the moment. (Yes my party comp is insane and unbalanced, no it doesn't get better in later acts lol)
44 - Blogger's choice - 37 - Did your Character find the Necromancy of Thay? How are they handling it / planning to handle it?
So they did find the Necromancy of Thay, and they read it successfully. They knew they were going to read it as soon as they got their hands on it, damn all the warnings everyone else was giving. This actually kinda endeared Gale to them because he was the exact same way, even if he was kinda upset that he didn't get to read the book.
Thank you so much for the questions this was so much fun!

So I've been obsessively playing BG3 since last week (and despite that, I'm only just now reaching the final section of Act 1). I'm copying some stuff from Discord cus I wanna be able to look back on my thoughts but have only been posting to Discord/Twitter/BlueSky lol... let me write more long-form about this game
Anyway spoilers for BG3 obviously, don't read if you aren't through the Grove questline in Act 1:
ok i just did the tiefling party night, here are my thoughts
1) boy i'm smitten with astarion (PREDICTABLE)
2) i'm not smitten enough that the sex scene wasn't really awkward, also i'm assuming vanilla faces have lips that actually move. preset face made the kiss soooo weird. but if you're a tiefling and ask about his scars, you can point out that they're written in the Infernal tongue and he's completely thrown off balance :")
3) before i savescummed to get out of gale's romance flags, astarion fucking said this shit and i lost it
4!) lae'zel..... lae'zel............... literally the only person who does not try to fuck you? she is SO mad about being rejected. and then she goes to FUCKING WYLL??? and he won't even fuck her lmao girl why. karlach is right there and suffering from rejection.
idk why she went to wyll truly because he is so low-key and the opposite of bloodthirsty. karlach is DYING on the other side of the camp. and she is so big and so bloodthirsty.
meanwhile wyll wants to awkwardly dance on the lakeshore. he wants flowers and chocolates and to not be covered in the blood of his enemies when finally making love. he wants pillow talk about swordsmanship used to protect the defenseless and the innocent. lae'zel rolling up like "you smell like the viscera of hundreds of goblins. get your dick out."
[Tumblr addition: for context, IDK how this flag triggers but there's a moment during adventuring where Lae'zel, if in the party, will suddenly come on VERY STRONGLY to the PC. Just talking threatingly about smelling their post-murder musk and wanting to taste their sweat. she is so offending if you tell her no thanks. Singing your praises as a warrior and how it gets her going to "well can't expect a weak soft-fleshed FIVE to understand they're missing out on a powerful githyanki TWENTY"]
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
5) karlach being so incredibly awkward trying to flirt and then so awkward but good-natured about the rejection is very real and relatable and also the fact she tries to shoot her shot right after acknowledging durge and astarion are getting cosy... ok go for it
6) shadowheart is like the most down to earth and smoothest of all the people who try to flirt with durge, like in any other circumstance he would share a bottle of wine with you but Not Tonight
7) gale really compares durge to his magical cat and expects to get laid.
druid durge voice "oh the cat's a talented wizard, i guess that makes this more romantic"
[Tumblr Addition: Actually if you play druid, you get a class-specific dialogue option that's much nicer like, "She must be an amazing beast :)" but lmao. lmao. my Durge did not appreciate it. In Gale's defense, it turns out she's a magical talking cat and his best friend in the whole wide multiverse who kept him alive when he had no one else... but still... Gale... this isn't the pick-up line you pull out on your non-wizard crush........]

BG3 playthrough: party in the camp and broken hearts
We did it, Patrick Zevlor! We defended the grove! Now for some celebrating.
Apparently, we're doing this way way way to soon into our playthrough, because most of our companions don't even care about us at this point. Or, at least, they don't care about me; they DO care about my partner's wizard. Or at least Lae'zel and Shadowheart do.
My partner at the party:
Wyll wanted to dance
Shadowheart wanted to spend the evening with my partner's wizard and so he did
Lae'zel did NOT approve of this and threw a fit
(he did not talk to Gale and Astarion, Karlach was not interested, but to be fair, we just recruited her)
meanwhile, me at the party:
Astarion broke my fucking heart, but I will not give up you stupid sad vampire boi
yeah he wormed his way into my brain, just like a mindflayer tadpole
Even Gale rejected me
GALE. REJECTED. ME.
Anyways, as far as I read, there's still hope for me, but it seems to be a bit weird for player 2. Worst case I'll have to start a single playthrough because I want that Astarion romance, especially as Dark Urge character.
Continuing our adventure
Karlach needed some paladins killed, so we did that
Dead dude told us that they're evil, Anders tried to lie to us
sorry buddy, you're not a good liar
OH MY GOD WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS MUCH DAMAGE
we somehow killed him, thanks to some firewine barrels and a smokepowder bomb I looted somewhere
Karlach is happy! wooohooo!
Next, we ran into the fight with the gnolls
"don't open this chest, it's dangerous" - of course I'll lockpick it. I'm curious what's going to happen next.
Another rest at camp and ... well, now I know who Mizora is. Wyll is now horny, but he doesn't seem to care that much.
Astarion, let me love you

Current Activities in Baldur's Gate #2
The game CTD'd so here I am talking about it.
As promised I was going to outline my experiences a bit more specifically.
Well currently, I have 92 hours on it and every minute of that has been spent in act 1. Only just now is my warlock about to go through the mountain pass, before getting distracted by yet another quest to save a duke. But I'm getting ahead of myself.
On the evening of release I of course rolled Dib, a dragonborn rogue, very quickly followed by my scant-clad warlock. Over time I found the rogue to be rather clunky. It's difficult to get mid-combat sneak checks when there's five goblins and two wargs looking straight at the party. Her stealth is very high but the chances to actually pass a hide check against seven mobs is very low, so it's more of a boss-killer than anything. Sneak attacks don't work like on tabletop, when an enemy has to simply be engaged with another target within five meters... But in the game you can ONLY get sneak attacks if you have advantage on the attack. I spent so much time slinging various disabling spells but you only get advantage on attacks under very specific conditions and I haven't nailed them all down. I know being prone is one of them. After falling out of love of rogue I went on to roll basically one of each class with some exceptions. I have no real interest in the sorcerer, paladin, cleric, druid, or ranger. Wizard is growing on me, notably the divination spec. I discovered that a few characters in with Gale. He can basically force rerolls on enemies, silence areas, and counter-spell. He's become a permanent fixture in most party compositions, so I might roll one for myself some day. Sorcerer to me just seems like a less interesting wizard.
I might make a ranger some day.
I've enjoyed the rest of the classes to various degrees. I'm even directly playing Karlach in one of my save files, because barbarian is fun. Big weapon go smash.
However I absolutely adore the warlock, but not overly fond of their limited spell slots. They can only pop off two big spells per combat encounter. As "eh" as that is to me, it's rarely been a problem. It can be recharged on short rests, but it's still irritating when you pop off a large spell that gets resisted or something. That said, eldritch blast is hilarious, does competitive damage, and can hit multiple targets. I can't wait to get to 10 so it can hit a third bolt.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I tagged this post as mature so I can post these now.
I'm dreading finding actual gear upgrades so she'll eventually lose this 'look', and I don't think they'll ever introduce a transmog system because they didn't in DoS2. But once she's done saving the duke, she'll be moving onto act 2 properly. Edit: I did not know the Duke was in act 2 to begin with.
Right now her setup is herself and gale on the backline while Lae'zel and Karlach both wade into the fray. Personality wise Selina is kind of an asshole but still a bit of a hedonist. To fuel a hedonist lifestyle she needs money. People give you money when you do things for them, and sometimes she'll extort and take it. So her altruism despite the dialog options is still a bit self-serving. And since Karlach isn't as goody two shoes as Shadowheart, the relationship meters with both are still creeping upwards. Karlach likes shows of strength which my warlock does sometimes, but just isn't as anti-everything as Shadowheart is.
Shadowheart is weird, man. Talks up altruism but worships a god that wants to end the world. Cool.
