2 - Her Voice
He went to gather some ingredients, as he would do most morning. He was 12 that day still a small boy, he has average height and quite smaller than two of his friends, Ching and Abyo, but when it came to fighting— he's confident to say that he was better and quicker than them. He defeated them in every sparring but not her. For some reason, it's always hard up against her and he couldn't help but go easy on her— or was it her who going easy on him?
Giggle.
He almost jumped. The sound of rushing steps came from behind him and without looking back, he already knew who it's belonged to. He ran faster and jumped up towards the trees, flipping in the air and landed on the ground. He saw some ingredients, so he picked them up only to be almost tackled down by the girl run behind— he put some weight on his feet to make it sturdy and came the kiss by his cheek. He glanced at her while she just giggled cutely. Then he sighed and waved her off softly, making a gesture to tell her 'enough'.
She tilted her head to the side and with another passionate kiss, she hopped off and helped him pick up the ingredients. She looked scary when she came running for help, trying to give him kisses and hugs but he wouldn't deny that she's a care and lovely girl. She always helped others when needed just like him and she's very... forgiving. Her positiveness sure helping the others a lot including him, but he wouldn't say that out loud— not like he could say it anyway with the vow of silence he took years ago and he wouldn't break it until he reached his goal.
The goal in which he would train to become a fine and skillful ninja. Until he could learn all ninjutsu and found the peace of his mind to control himself, both body and soul— that when he'd complete his goal and able to break the vow of silence. Not like it would make any different since he was never a good talker and always stay silent, listened others.
Come to think of it, she never once spoke. Ching once said that her best friend rarely said a word and would only speak as she saw fit. Most of the time, she would make just a soft sound indicating her feeling. It's because of her that the people in the village never had any problems understanding him. It's nice to have her around back then... and even now— just not the ki—
Came another kiss. A sudden one, almost made him jumped. He just looked back at her, sweating— his mind started working quick and fast, pondering whether he should just run away or not. She gave him a big smile and handed over some more ingredients. He looked at them and glanced back up at her smile, then he handed his bag slowly at her as she put all of them in. That's all for the morning ingredients. After that... she chased him back to Goh-Rong.
Morning dim sum was delicious, and he always got the meal here for free as he was the one who finding the ingredients. Sometimes he almost felt like he's working here since they would ask him to find the ingredients every time they needed. He always accepted, of course. It was fun doing errands for them, almost feel like this place was another home as well.
As he finished his breakfast. He saw her, leaning forward to Dandy who was sweeping the floor quietly. Her mouth moved. She spoke to Dandy. Dandy nodded briefly and walked into the kitchen. He didn't know what the two— what she was telling the other boy, but he found himself pondering over what her sound would be like. Surely, it'd be as soft and lovely as her giggles and laughs. Apart from people working in Goh-Rong, Ching was the only one who ever heard the girl voice. He found that being quite and chose not to talk as she did was quite... mysterious and it made him curious.
In the afternoon right after lunch, somehow, he found himself at Ching's. Well, he would be learning the martial art here soon after all. He sighed, walking in. No one was at the training hall at the moment except for Ching, who turned to him and smiled
"You're early, Garu"
He nodded.
"Have you eaten your lunch yet?"
Nodded.
"Good then! So, you might have already seen Pucca?"
He raised one of his eyebrows. Why ask.
"Well, I bet the restaurant will be packed today. Do you think she can make it here at all?"
Oh. That.
He blinked once. Today sure had many customers but less than the other day so... come to think of it as he left the place— well, Pucca didn't even notice him so he guessed she's still busy after all?
He gave his friend a shrugged, not so sure about it. But there's this new restaurant near theirs so, people got more choice to choose and they wouldn't work too much he supposed?
"That's maybe true"
He impressed how Ching could understand his thought.
"But still, I want Pucca to come every day when we have class"
She smiled. He pondered. He guessed since Ching was the only girl in the class, it would be nice to have another one or two learning with her, yes?
"I can spend more time with Pucca like that and if I'm lucky she might feel like singing something for me! You know, Pucca has a beeauutiful voice!"
Ching giggled after finished that sentence and hummed in satisfaction. They both were really closed, weren't they? But, singing huh?
"Interesting?"
He winced. Ching smiled at him.
"You know, Garu. Despite her action towards you and her personality, she's very shy when it comes to her voice." Ching said slowly. "Maybe it's because Pucca loves to listen to others? When we were younger, she'd sit there and listen with a smile on her face. That's why people adore her. Don't you think she cute?"
He almost nodded but stopped himself as he eyed his friend who smiled sheepishly. That's definitely a trick question.
So, he shrugged.
Ching pouted "Aw, come on, Garu."
Before he could react further, the door was open loudly with the entrance of Abyo. He rolled his eyes as Ching giggled with the other boy's behavior. They chatted for a while— though, he mostly just listened to them and rarely gave any sound. Then entered another one of their friends, Ssoso, though he's actually a bit older than them. Ssoso is 14, he supposed. As they greeted, Pucca entered together with master Chang and soon their lesson started.
As they were sparring, for some reason, he kept hearing the sound she made. It's as lovely as always, the only thing different was... that he seemed to hear a lot and too much...
Another day went by peacefully as they finished their lesson and parted.
A/N: Here's some note you need to know. I view the 'vow of silence' as an act of silence voluntarily for a certain purpose. Vow of silence is an act to temporary silence one's self. No word is need and the Garu in my story does not speak AND write. He listens and making sounds, sometimes with gestures. It's something that can be broken easily with no punishment as it is an act taken by the person himself. It is an act to train one's self, either to be a better listener, practice patience, or to find peace. Garu in my story took this vow to practice 'silence' so he could be a better and skilled ninja. After all ninjas are stealthily. However, the couple of sounds are necessary to communicate. I will go through his routine and a bit more story of his vow of silence in the later chapter. Some more notes, my Pucca here doesn't take the vow of silence. It's her behavior— her habit of listening and rarely speaking due to her childhood. Just like Garu, in the later chapter I will go through her story as well.
