Start with a stack of old, unused California postcards and then make some artist stamps to add along with the official postage. And if President Biden doesn’t fire Louis DeJoy soon, we might actually need our own California Postal Service. If that happens, Huell Howser is going on a stamp!

I used to love watching Huell Howser on PBS when I lived in California.

Today I took an internet quiz that asked what the Yosemite Firefall was. I knew about what is NOW known as a firefall; during the last two weeks of February there is a waterfall in the park that the sun hits at a certain angle, and the water looks like fire.

When the quiz said that I was incorrect, and that it was actual fire falling down, I had to look into it and learn more.

So this was a REALLY interesting episode for me. I got to learn something new, and Huell’s interview style is so endearing (sadly, he passed in 2013).

I’m very happy to report that the episode includes actual film footage of the firefall, and one of the people interviewed is the person who created the firefall (which was eventually called off because SO MANY people were coming to see it that it became a nuisance as they were damaging the park). But this was very cool to watch.

Heyyyy so I made a pretty cool killjoys playlist based on my experiences as a stupid little southern Californian punky teenager, including songs from bands in the local scene. I tried to make it lore accurate because media would’ve pretty much stopped when the fires of 2012 happened, so I capped off most of the songs and bands at 2012 (except the local bands).

The cover is a landmark called Salvation Mountain, its pretty cool, I’ve been there, and I think it would be a killjoy hotspot bc look at it. Tell me they wouldn’t make that a zone witch worship site.

I wanted to make the songs like- available to them, knowing the killjoys didn’t have Spotify, so a lot of the songs on there are from albums I commonly see while digging through goodwill cd shelves and yard sale music sections. The idea is that they listen to whatever they get their hands on, so they’d find these physical copies of music and listen to them and make their little mixtapes.

I put in genres that the local scenes love(riot grrl, ska, pop punk) so I HOPE it comes across as genuine.

I think Huell Howser would get a kick out of this playlist, and I’m proud of myself for that.

But it’s really just a playlist so whatever
