May we always remember the #PuertoRican #Soldiers los #Borinqueneers : "The 65th Infantry Regiment, known as the “Borinqueneers,” are just such servicemen. They served with distinction in World War I, World War II and the Korean War, and though the politics of each member can’t be known for sure, the regiment’s support for inclusion can be presumed by its motto “Honor et Fidelitas." -HectorLuisAlmo #LaRepuesta Media #Valor #Honor #MemorialDay #Boricua

MEMORIAL DAY, REMEMBER AND HONOR 🇵🇷 The Borinqueneers: 65th Infantry Regiment : They bravely fought for their country — and made history in the process. The 65th Infantry Regiment of the U.S. Army, known as "The Borinqueneers," have lived by their motto "Honor et Fidelitas" — Latin for "Honor and Fidelity" — both on and off the battlefield for more than 100 years. Activated in 1899, shortly after the U.S. took control of the former Spanish colony of Puerto Rico, the 65th Infantry division began as a volunteer regiment composed of locals enlisted to safeguard the new territory. In 1908, Congress incorporated the unit into the Army as the first Hispanic segregated unit in U.S. military history. The Borinqueneers were born. Named after Borinquen, the Taíno name for Puerto Rico, the regiment bravely fought in both world wars. It was their role in the Korean War, in which more than 43,000 Puerto Ricans enlisted and 3,540 died, where the Borinqueneers cemented their legacy as the pride of Puerto Rico and one of the best fighting units in Army history. "It really was in Korea where they fought in combat and where they made their mark as warriors," Noemi Figueroa Soulet, producer, director, and writer of the documentary "The Borinqueneers," #PuertoRico #TheBorinqueneers 🇵🇷🇵🇷 Join us **I'm So Boricua *Taíno * 🇵🇷🇵🇷🇨🇺🇨🇺 https://www.instagram.com/p/Bx97JWenrys/?igshid=1dxcx5r6oecir

The 65th Infantry Regiment, nicknamed "The Borinqueneers"[1] from the original Taíno name of the island (Borinquen), is a Puerto Rican regiment of the United States Army. The regiment's motto is Honor et Fidelitas, Latin for Honor and Fidelity. The Army Appropriation Bill created by an act of Congress on 2 March 1898, authorized the creation of the first body of native troops in Puerto Rico. On 30 June 1901, the "Porto Rico Provisional Regiment of Infantry" was organized.[2] On July 1, 1908, Congress incorporated the regiment into the Regular Army as the Puerto Rico Regiment of Infantry, United States Army.[3] On May 14, 1917, the Regiment was activated and additional men were assigned, with the unit being sent to serve at Panama.[3] On June 4, 1920, the Regiment was renamed 65th Infantry.[3] During World War II, the Regiment saw action throughout Europe, especially France and Germany, participating in Naples-Foggia, Rome-Arno and Rhin.[4] Several Purple Hearts were handed posthumously to members of the 65th Regiment, and the Medal of Honor was granted to Capt. Eurípides Rubio, Héctor Santiago, Carlos Lozada and Fernando García.[5] #grandpop #grandfather #army #65thinfantryregiment #borinqueneers #koreanwar #puertorico #borinquen #taino
