Surah Yaseen [36:57]- “Lahum feehaa faakiha tunw-wa lahum maa yadda’oon”

Not Obsessing over others’ Blessings: Prophet Zakariyyah’s Dua

Prophet Zakariyyah (as) was entrusted with the guardianship of Maryam (as) while she was secluded in her worship and dedication to Allah (swt). At one point, when he came to check on her, he found that she had provisions – fruits that were not in season. His reaction to this is recorded in this beautiful series of verses:

Allah (swt) says:

Every time Zakariyyah entered upon her in the prayer chamber, he found with her provision. He said, ‘O Maryam, from where is this [coming] to you?’ She said, ‘It is from Allah. Indeed, Allah provides for whom He wills without account.’

At that, Zakariyyah called upon his Lord, saying, ‘My Lord, grant me from Yourself a good offspring. Indeed, You are the Hearer of supplication.’

So the angels called him while he was standing in prayer in the chamber, ‘Indeed, Allah gives you good tidings of Yahya…’ (3:37-39)

When Zakariyyah saw that Maryam had provisions that seemed to appear out of thin air, and fruits that were not even in season, he was genuinely surprised. But after Maryam said to him, “Allah provides for whom He wills without account,” He turned to Allah (swt) right after and made dua for a son.

Zakariyyah didn’t immediately think why don’t I have what she has, since I’m also a believer, a worshiper, and even a prophet? or what makes her more special than me?

Instead he saw these provisions as a miracle, and a sign that Allah (swt) is capable of all things. It was at this point that Zakariyyah turned to ask Allah (swt) to bless him with a son, despite his old age and despite his wife’s barrenness.

When we see people who have things we don’t have – large homes, beauty, loving spouses, children, monetary success – we can do one of two things:

Drown ourselves in rivers of envy because we don’t have the same.

Recognize that these blessings are from Allah, and use it as a motivation to ask of Him alone.

I hate to bring up social media, again, but I must. Our exposure to social media means that we are constantly (even if unknowingly) comparing our lives to the lives of others. (Related and relevant: “Comparison is the Thief of Joy”)

Their blessings are on full display. (I have my own opinions on whether or not some of these displays are Islamically appropriate, but that’s neither here nor there at this point.) The issue at hand is – how do we handle the constant barrage of images showing us how much better someone is doing in life than we are?

The Muslim fashionistas always seem to have picture-perfect clothes, lives, and relationships. The Instagram moms always seem to have their houses clean and dinner cooked and kids looking presentable and happy (oh, and five DIY projects in the making on the side). The Muslim businesses always seem to be on top great new ideas and turning a significant profit.

We all know that these images are merely a sliver of what these people’s lives really entail. But that doesn’t diminish the effect that these open displays have on us.

We easily become envious creatures when we allow our consumption of these things to go unchecked. And get this: we even become envious of people we don’t know, and over things we never even thought we wanted! That’s the most surprising thing of all.

Even if we place great controls over what we view, we will always see someone somewhere with something “better” than we have. That’s just a reality of existing. What we really have to examine is how we react.

Prophet Zakariyyah saw that Maryam had been blessed with something he never had (an emotion we experience on the daily). His reaction to it, however, was beautiful. He turned to Allah and asked Him to give him a son. Because after all, it wasn’t provisions that he desperately wanted – it was a son to inherit the role of spreading the message of truth to his people.

So when he saw the blessings Maryam had, he was able to redirect his thoughts to the Greatness of Allah (swt), and then to something he actually wanted. He asked Allah (swt) for that thing – and of course, Allah (swt) responded.

In order to be able to incorporate this attitude into our lives we need to do the following:

Limit our consumption of other people’s lives. Yes, I know their lives are on display, but that doesn’t mean it’s healthy to be constantly watching. (Read this.)

Take the time to develop our goals and our vision. When we become laser-focused on our own development, we won’t lose ourselves in other people’s achievements and blessings.

Turn to Allah (swt) in dua always, and especially whenever we feel overwhelmed by the blessings of others.

Turn our attention to those who have less than us, not more, and then take steps to offer help.

May Allah (swt) cleanse our hearts from envy, and allow us to focus on the betterment of ourselves and those who are struggling in our homes and communities.

6 Tips to Remain Steadfast in Faith

Any great goal you want to achieve requires you to make a solid plan and put effort to achieve this dream goal. Right…?

Now, how come we’d think of our faith as something we take for granted, or something we don’t need to put effort in to grow and strengthen…?

The Prophet himself (peace and blessings upon him) taught us a dua in this regard. Shahr bin Haushab reported: “I asked Umm Salamah (May Allah be pleased with her), “O Mother of the Believers! Which supplication did the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) make frequently when he was in your house?” She said: “He (ﷺ) supplicated frequently: ‘Ya muqallibal-qulubi, thabbit qalbi ‘ala dinika (O Controller of the hearts make my heart steadfast in Your religion).” [At- Tirmidhi].

This day and age with all the temptations, distractions and tribulations that are happening around us, we need to have a plan to achieve our ultimate goal of earning Allah’s Pleasure and Closeness and reaching a beautiful eternal Paradise after we leave this world, insha’Allah.

So here are 6 sure ways to keep you steadfast in faith.

Sincere daily dua (supplication)

Allah teaches us a great lesson every day. He has instructed us to say 17 times a day through our 5 daily prayers:

“It is You we worship and You we ask for help.” (Qur’an 1: 5)

This is not a coincidence. This is a reminder that no one can achieve success and steadfastness in faith except with the Help of Allah Almighty. We don’t just worship Allah; we need His Incomparable Help to remain on the straight path.

In a beautiful hadith of the Prophet (peace be upon him) he taught one of the most learned companions, Mu’adh (bin Jabal), words to recite in order to seek the Help of Allah.

Mu’adh bin Jabal (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:

Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) held my hand and said, “O Mu’adh, By Allah, I love you and advise you not to miss supplicating after every Salat (prayer) saying: ‘Allahumma a’inni ‘ala dhikrika wa shukrika, wa husni ‘ibadatika,’ (O Allah, help me remember You, expressing gratitude to You and worship You in the best manner.” [Abu Dawud and An- Nasa’i].

Dua is absolutely essential to receiving Allah’s guidance. The Prophet (peace and blessings upon him) said, “Verily supplication is worship.” [Related by the four Imams].

So let not a day pass without making supplications to Allah to help you and aid you. Speak to Allah in your own language and in your own way in supplication if you want. As long as you’re sincere and conscious of what you’re saying, then Allah will respond and will protect you and open doors for you. Allah is our Best Helper (AnNaseer) and He is Our Protecting Friend (Al Wali).

Reciting and Studying the Qur’an

The Qur’an is indispensable to one’s guidance and steadfastness. The best way to get closer to Allah is through His Own Words.

Continuing to listen to the words of Allah and recite them and explore their meanings will keep the heart engaged and will open it and guide it and keep it firm.

The Qur’an responds to everything that goes in your chest. Allah’s Infinite Wisdom and Mercy on His slaves is expressed in this timeless Book that speaks to the hearts and Minds that HE created.

From the beginning of the Book Allah Almighty says:

“This is the Book about which there is no doubt, guidance for those conscious of Allah” (Qur’an 2: 2)

So, studying the meaning of the Qur’an (tafseer), perfecting the recitation (tajweed), spending time with the Qur’an in contemplation and reflection (tadabbur) and reciting it on a daily basis is a very strong mean to strengthen the heart.

“[…] Thus [it is] that We may strengthen thereby [the Qur’an] your heart….” (Qur’an 25: 32)

Studying Seerah (biography of the Prophet) and stories of the Prophets and Companions

Allah has sent the messengers to deliver for us the message and teach us how to deal with all life matters. His life (peace and blessings upon him) is rich with stories and incidents and reminders that would help us deal with anything we face in life. There is so much solace and guidance in being reminded of his Seerah.

Allah Almighty says:

“Certainly did Allah confer [great] favor upon the believers when He sent among them a Messenger from themselves, reciting to them His verses and purifying them and teaching them the Book and wisdom, although they had been before in manifest error.” (Qur’an 3: 164)

So studying the Seerah of the Prophet is a means of remembrance of Allah, purification of the self and learning of wisdom.

And Allah Almighty has sent the Prophets before and taught us their stories through the Book and hadiths to guide us and open our hearts and minds to the wisdom of what we see around us and how to deal with different tribulations.

Almighty says:

“And each [story] We relate to you from the news of the messengers is that by which We make firm your heart. And there has come to you, in this, the truth and an instruction and a reminder for the believers.” (Qur’an 11: 120)

And He Almighty says:

“There was certainly in their stories a lesson for those of understanding. Never was the Qur’an a narration invented, but a confirmation of what was before it and a detailed explanation of all things and guidance and mercy for a people who believe.” (Qur’an 12: 111)

Practicing what one learns

Our iman (faith) can go really high up after listening to lectures or attending circles of knowledge. But few days, weeks, months later, we can lose this feeling and become spiritually drained. This is mainly because of not being consistent or practicing what one has learned.

As Allah Almighty says:

“But if they had done what they were instructed, it would have been better for them and a firmer position [for them in faith].” (Qur’an 4: 66)

Sometimes we delay following the instructions we hear or fear them or submit to the negative whispers of Satan. But if instead we strive to implement what we learn, then this definitely opens more doors of goodness and light and strengthens one in faith.

Allah says:

“And those who strive for Us – We will surely guide them to Our ways. And indeed, Allah is with the doers of good.” (Qur’an 29: 69)

Having good companions always

Seeking righteous companions and remaining among those who are seeking the closeness of Allah Almighty is something that aids and strengthens one’s faith significantly.

As Allah Almighty The Most Knowing says:

“And keep yourself patient [by being] with those who call upon their Lord in the morning and the evening, seeking His countenance. And let not your eyes pass beyond them, desiring adornments of the worldly life, and do not obey one whose heart We have made heedless of Our remembrance and who follows his desire and whose affair is ever [in] neglect.” (Qur’an 18: 28)

And the Prophet says: ‘The example of a good pious companion and an evil one is that of a person carrying musk and another blowing a pair of bellows. The one who is carrying musk will either give you some perfume as a present, or you will buy some from him, or you will get a good smell from him, but the one who is blowing a pair of bellows will either burn your clothes or you will get a bad smell from him.” [Sahih Al Bukhari]

Being among the wrong company is very dangerous on one’s uprightness and steadfastness. It weakens one’s iman and moves one from remembrance to heedlessness and from great striving on the path to negligence and weakness.

In contrast, righteous companions keep one reminded of Allah, they call each other to doing good, they advise each other against doing sins, they compete in good deeds…etc.

So make dua to find right companions and be among them as they are brothers and allies and a safety boat to one another.

Constant Repentance and following bad deeds with good ones

This is a very important step. We must do all we have in our capacity to remain steadfast. But if for any reason one weakened or fallen into sin, then learn how to get back up immediately and take control of your life. Don’t let the sin control you or define you.

Shaitan whispers to people to commit sins, and when they do, he makes them think that they’re hopeless and can’t be forgiven or that their repentance won’t be accepted. DON’T EVER FALL INTO THIS TRAP!! EVER!

No matter what happens, no matter how many times you’ve fallen into sin and repented and fallen into sin and repented, you should NEVER give up. Allah will always accept the sincere repentance of His slaves. So long as your soul is still in your body and you’re not associating anything or anyone in worship with Allah, then He will always forgive you and accept your repentance.

“Allah, the Exalted, has said: ‘O son of Adam, I forgive you as long as you pray to Me and hope for My forgiveness, whatever sins you have committed. O son of ‘Adam, I do not care if your sins reach the heights of the heaven, then you ask for my forgiveness, I would forgive you. O son of ‘Adam, if you come to Me with an earth load of sins, and meet Me associating nothing to Me, I would match it with an earthload of forgiveness.”‘ [At- Tirmidhi].

So, if you’ve ever weakened or fallen into sin, then immediately follow it with good deeds. As Allah says:

“And establish prayer at the two ends of the day and at the approach of the night. Indeed, good deeds do away with misdeeds. That is a reminder for those who remember.” (Qur’an 11: 14)

Remember that for repentance to be accepted, one has to 1- stop the sin immediately. 2- Regret it sincerely, and 3 – have sincere desire to not go back to the sin.

You can also perform the prayer or repentance.

The Prophet says: “There is no one who commits a sin then purifies himself well (does wudoo’/ablution) and stands and prays two rak’ahs (two units of prayer), then asks Allah for forgiveness, but Allah will forgive him. [Abi Dawood]

So, repent, pray, do dhikr, give some money in charity, help your parents, call family member, read Qur’an, do as many good deeds as you can even if small….

In short, strangle the sin with good deeds and do not let it strangle you!

And remember that Allah says:

“Satan threatens you with poverty and orders you to immorality, while Allah promises you forgiveness from Him and bounty. And Allah is all-Encompassing and Knowing.” (Qur’an 2: 268)

So, never give up on Allah and His path because His doors are always open for us, just seek Him and put all effort in the purpose that He created us for and the rewards that He has prepared for us. It is all worth it. Always.

May Allah help us and strengthen us and grant us from all the goodness of this life and the next and bring our hearts back to Him firm and sincere.

A CHAPTER FROM THE ADVENTURES OF HAKIM

CHAPTER 12:

HOUSE QUAKE

The next day at Abdul Hakims house the doorbell rang. Little Amer reached for the handle and opened the door. It was Shakira.

‘Hi Shakira!! Hey everybody it’s Shakira!’ Said the little boy leading her into the front room.

Immediately Shakira could feel the sorrow in the otherwise joyful household.

'As Salaamu Alayikum Amar, everyone. Well, I’m packed and ready to go to the airport.’ She smiled weakly.

Abdul Hakims parents Samaya and Ibrahim were sat talking in hushed tones as Abdul Hakim flicked absent mindidly through a photo album of him and his friends, among them were pictures of Abdullah.

‘Shakira! Alaykum salaam how are you? Y-you’ve been crying!’ said Ibrahim noticing her drawn face. Shakira rubbed her tired eyes.

‘Oh just a little uncle, I’ve been thinking about my father and the news about Abdullah is so heartbreaking. I heard that Hakim is going to dedicate his Streetwise Champion award to Abdullah later today.’ She sat next to Hakim. ‘Hey Hakim I am so sorry to hear about Abdullah. Will you lead me in Salah before I fly off?’ He didn’t respond, ‘I‘d really like to make a special dua for Abdullah and my father.’ Hakim turned to her and offered faint smile.

‘Yeah the Streetwise Champion award should really be his, b-but alhamdullilah you actually want to pray? I thought you said you'd never pray again?’ She shrugged her shoulders and wrinkled her nose.

‘I was so wrong. Allah was there for me yesterday. When I was about to die and I knew only He could help me and now with His help I can stop blaming myself for every bad thing that happens. I’ll never turn my back on Allah again. Never!’

Hakim made to speak but a thundering collision rocked the entire house.

BOOM!

‘Wh-wh-what is that?’ exclaimed Hakim jumping to his feet as another impact of something big crashing against the house threw his balance.

BOOM! BOOM!

‘The entire house is trembling. Cracks are appearing along the walls!! Everyone get outside before you’re crushed!’ Everyone made for the door as the pounding continued and windows caved in.

‘Jinkies! T-t-the walls are c-c-coming a-a-apart…!’ yelled Shakira as she scooped up Amer and ran.

Cracks appeared across the walls and zigzagged along the ceiling. Suddenly it burst apart as bricks and masonry went flying everywhere. Standing on a huge metal wrecking ball suspended from a thick chain was a massively built tall bald headed man. He looked like a crazy skinhead!’

‘Ha ha Hakim I have found you at last!’ said the man pointing at Abdul Hakim who was stunned to see him.

‘Buckmaster? So Sharkey was right - you are back! But I saw you fall to your death! You should be street pizza!’

Buckmaster threw his head back and roared with chilling laughter.

‘I am Ivan Buckmaster! Do you think a little fall from a 30-story building would stop me? Fool!! After the riot I hid in the bushes until the cops had gone and then I regrouped my gang and kidnapped Princess Elizabeth. But of course you had to interfere and ruining my plans. That gold medallion that led you to us, I want it back!’ he jumped down from the wrecking ball and walked towards Hakim.

‘WHAT?? That medallion is yours?’ Said Hakim walking over the rubble towards Buckmaster.

‘Yes it is boy. It is the key to untold wealth and I have come for it!!! I thought this wrecking ball would show you I mean business. Now come here!’ he said lounging at Hakim who vaulted over a collapsed wall spinning out of his reach.

‘Come on then! I ain’t afraid of you! By Allah, I beat you once and I’ll do it again!’ the two charged towards each other when suddenly a pink blur swept in from above and slammed a foot into Buckmaster’s jaw.

‘Step off bucko! Leave my cousin alone baldy!’ It was Shakira. The huge man staggered back from the blow and spun to face her.

‘A skinny little girl in a pink headscarf challenging me? Bwa ha ha ha!’ he said rubbing his throbbing jaw and pretending it didn't hurt. He'd not been kick that hard in a long while. He had to be careful with this one.

Abdul Hakim ran to the aide of his parents who were in a predicament of their own.

‘Ugh-ugh, this fallen piece of brick wall has trapped your mum and me Hakim and someones bound to call the police but we‘ve got to help Shakira. I don’t know how long she can fight him off even with her fighting skills! Hey, where’s little Amar?’ said Ibrahim looking over the rubble.

Small eruptions of fire littered the broken piles of stone, glass and masonry but there was no sign of the little boy.

‘I don’t know,’ said Hakim ‘but you’re right dad, we’ve got to do something!! Ha, my skateboard. I have an idea.’ He said sprinting off and snatching the skateboard from the wreckage.

Meanwhile Shakira kept Buckmaster at bay with an onslaught of kicks, blows and bare face cheek but always just out the reach of his powerful hands.

‘Aggh come on girly I…huh?’ suddenly a stone ricocheted off his bald head. Then another, then another.

‘Hey? Someone throwing stones? W-what?’ bellowed Buckmaster in sheer disbelief.

‘You crazy man!’ shouted little Amer holding a small pile of rocks cradled in his arms. ‘Look what you done to our house!! You mashed it up!! You fatty man!’ spat the boy.

Buckmaster couldn’t believe the guts of this family.

‘Hehehe you don’t know the way of my gang little boy, all who shares my enemies blood must pay.’ He said turning his back on Shakira and lumbering over to Amer. Who dropped the rocks and stared at him. There was no way Shakira could reach him before Buckmaster did. He was toast for sure!

‘Amer get back!! Let me…what??'

The high pitch screech of metal on concrete suddenly filled the air. Zooming down a broken wall was Abdul Hakim on his skateboard?’

‘Ha! Allahu Akbar punk! Eat skateboard fool!’ he shouted with a devil may care grin.

Buckmaster was knocked to the ground as the skateboard collided with his chest. Hakim somersaulted clear and landed on his feet.

‘You picked the wrong day to mess with my family! I just lost my best friend and I’m not about to let you threaten my mum and dad!’

A burst of fire strang up between Buckmaster and the three kids.

Just then approaching police sirens came roaring into ear. Buckmaster froze.

‘Grrrr the Police. Ha, I’ll be back and next time not even your kung fu cousin will save you! Bye bye fools. Ha ha!’ The crime king turned and disappeared into a nearby alley.

Hakim was relived until his keen sense of smell picked up something alarming.

‘What’s that smell?’ he said looking around. He saw an exposed and broken piece of pipe sticking out of the ground.

‘GAS? Subhana’Allah, sniff sniff that is gas I smell - there must be a ruptured gas main in the house that’s setting off those explosions!!! Everyone get down. FIRE IN THE HOLE!’

His warning didn’t come a moment to soon as a tremendous explosion rocked what remained of the tattered house. Debris, chunks of masonry and glass was flung into the air. It struck the neighbouring buildings and shattered windows hundreds of yards away.

BA-DOOOOOM!

The same fallen brick wall that had trapped Hakims parents now shielded them all from the explosion. Shakira was the first to raise her head.

‘Who the blazes was that guy?’ she said blinking as Abdul Hakim helped his mother to her feet.

‘Buckmaster! His name is Buckmaster, and he’s the new crime boss in town who wants a piece of me!’ he said scanning the damage and the fire that had roared up all around them. ‘That medallion must be worth a lot for him to have done all this to get it back.’ He said butterly. Hakim's mother fell to her knees when she saw the utter destruction Buckmaster has caused.

‘Ibrahim! (sob) Look at our house! Look at our home!’ she pulled Hakim's photo album free from beneath a slab of broken brickwork. It was ripped and many of the pictures hand fallen out.

‘We can’t stay here for a while that’s for sure.’ Answered Ibrahim crouching to his knees and hugging Samayah close. ‘I guess we’ll have to cancel the award ceremony today. Will that guy come back do you think?’ he said turning to Hakim who was wiping dust from Amers tiny face.

‘No dad I still want to go to the award night…for the sake of Abdullah and to show people like Buckmaster that Muslims will never turn their back on oppression.’ He stood as several police cars and 3 fire engines pulled up to the house.

‘And yes he’ll be back alright. Count on it!’

‘And I’ll be here waiting.’ added Shakira standing next to him looking at the chaos. ‘I can’t leave the UK after this can I? What do you say, Abdul Hakim?’

They both stood on a high out cropped fallen wall and, shilouttted by the lights from the police cars, looked every bit the heroes they truly were.

‘I want you to teach me Jeet Kune Do, so when he does comes back I’ll be ready. Yes, by Allah, I’ll be ready!’ he said narrowing his eyes and clenching his fists.

The smoke, dust and despair mingled with the wail of police sirens and floated up into the night

6 Tips to Remain Steadfast in Faith

Any great goal you want to achieve requires you to make a solid plan and put effort to achieve this dream goal. Right…?

Sincere daily dua (supplication)

Allah teaches us a great lesson every day. He has instructed us to say 17 times a day through our 5 daily prayers:

“It is You we worship and You we ask for help.” (Qur’an 1: 5)

In a beautiful hadith of the Prophet (peace be upon him) he taught one of the most learned companions, Mu’adh (bin Jabal), words to recite in order to seek the Help of Allah.

Mu’adh bin Jabal (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:

Dua is absolutely essential to receiving Allah’s guidance. The Prophet (peace and blessings upon him) said, “Verily supplication is worship.” [Related by the four Imams].

Reciting and Studying the Qur’an

The Qur’an is indispensable to one’s guidance and steadfastness. The best way to get closer to Allah is through His Own Words.

Continuing to listen to the words of Allah and recite them and explore their meanings will keep the heart engaged and will open it and guide it and keep it firm.

The Qur’an responds to everything that goes in your chest. Allah’s Infinite Wisdom and Mercy on His slaves is expressed in this timeless Book that speaks to the hearts and Minds that HE created.

From the beginning of the Book Allah Almighty says:

“This is the Book about which there is no doubt, guidance for those conscious of Allah” (Qur’an 2: 2)

“[…] Thus [it is] that We may strengthen thereby [the Qur’an] your heart….” (Qur’an 25: 32)

Studying Seerah (biography of the Prophet) and stories of the Prophets and Companions

Allah Almighty says:

So studying the Seerah of the Prophet is a means of remembrance of Allah, purification of the self and learning of wisdom.

Almighty says:

And He Almighty says:

Practicing what one learns

As Allah Almighty says:

“But if they had done what they were instructed, it would have been better for them and a firmer position [for them in faith].” (Qur’an 4: 66)

Allah says:

“And those who strive for Us – We will surely guide them to Our ways. And indeed, Allah is with the doers of good.” (Qur’an 29: 69)

Having good companions always

Seeking righteous companions and remaining among those who are seeking the closeness of Allah Almighty is something that aids and strengthens one’s faith significantly.

As Allah Almighty The Most Knowing says:

In contrast, righteous companions keep one reminded of Allah, they call each other to doing good, they advise each other against doing sins, they compete in good deeds…etc.

So make dua to find right companions and be among them as they are brothers and allies and a safety boat to one another.

Constant Repentance and following bad deeds with good ones

So, if you’ve ever weakened or fallen into sin, then immediately follow it with good deeds. As Allah says:

“And establish prayer at the two ends of the day and at the approach of the night. Indeed, good deeds do away with misdeeds. That is a reminder for those who remember.” (Qur’an 11: 14)

Remember that for repentance to be accepted, one has to 1- stop the sin immediately. 2- Regret it sincerely, and 3 – have sincere desire to not go back to the sin.

You can also perform the prayer or repentance.

So, repent, pray, do dhikr, give some money in charity, help your parents, call family member, read Qur’an, do as many good deeds as you can even if small….

In short, strangle the sin with good deeds and do not let it strangle you!

And remember that Allah says:

“Satan threatens you with poverty and orders you to immorality, while Allah promises you forgiveness from Him and bounty. And Allah is all-Encompassing and Knowing.” (Qur’an 2: 268)

May Allah help us and strengthen us and grant us from all the goodness of this life and the next and bring our hearts back to Him firm and sincere.
