SCRATCHTHEBLOCK PRESENTS: STAY MELLOW VOL.13
Here we are again , with new vibes, new sounds and a new fantastic chapter of Stay Mellow !
The 13th installment is packed with luscious r&b sonorities and soulful hip-hop beats produced and performed by a fleet of artists which deserve your attention so dim the light, sit back and relax your soul!
JOE TRUFANT – PARTY TALK (PRODUCED BY TREY KEYSOR AND MIKE HECTOR)
If you usually fuck with Ovo Sound music then you have to prick up your ears in order to get familiar with Joe Trufant.
Last year , the North Carolina singer/songwriter popped up under our radar with one of the most exciting song of the last recent years.
Yezzir, the track titled Party Talk is definitely the best way to start the journey through Trufant music and we bet y’all will appreciate it!
Party Talk induces to the listener a sort of skin orgasm thanks the flawless production handled by Trufant fellow-citizen Trey Keysor and Florida-bred hip-hop producer Mike Hector (the man who collaborated with Sounwave,DJ  Dahi, Cardo on Kendrick Lamar piece called God from the acclaimed DAMN.)
SLUM VILLAGE – TOO MUCH (PRODUCED BY J.DILLA AND YOUNG RJ)
Slum Village is a name that resonates as  a milestone of hip-hop history. But if you think they represent just a relevant page of da 90’s hip-hop music then you’re dead wrong! So, just like De La Soul with their stunning And The Anonymous Nobody and A Tribe Called Quest’s We Got it From Here..Thank You 4 Your Service, Slum Village confirm to be still relevant with their eight studio album called Yes released two years ago. The project boasts appearances from BJ The Chicago Kid, Frank Nitt,Illa J,De La Soul and Black Milk to name a few, adorned with hard-hitting productions cooked posthumously by the beloved J.Dilla.  We selected the dope soulful piece called Too Much co-produced by Young RJ who is currently working on his new album called Blaq RoyalT.
ETTA BOND – BAD 4 ME (PRODUCED BY KHALIL MADOVI)
Equipped with soothing and extra-warm vocal skills , U.K singer/songwriter Etta Bond has accustomed us to her distinctive way to explore sensuality through succulent downtempo r&b songs, such as the eargasmic Examine Me produced by Warren Xclnce or 4 U .
Well, this bad gyal piqued our interest and stimulated our mind and body recording compelling joints like the seductive Bad 4 Me finely produced by Manchester producer Khalil Madovi
ILLA J – SAM COOK (PRODUCED BY CALVIN VALENTINE)
If you listened to Yancey Boys and  Illa J  you probably appreciated the qualities of Jay Dilla brother John Yancey aka Illa J as rapper but if you will experience his last effort called Home you’ll discover a different and unusual  dimension of the artist!Released via german label (one of our faves!!) Jakarta Records , Home represents a compelling body of work focuses on Illa J as singer.WTF?Yes,yes on da collaborative project with Oregon-bred multi-talented producer Calvin Valentine, Illa flexed his vocal prowess and we can assert he definitely impressed us , showing self-confidence as a consummate singer. Illa describes Home:
It’s about Detroit, my physical home, but it’s also about me finding my voice as an artist and coming home to that.
Mad props to Calvin Valentine which blesses us with an outstanding sample-based soul album that delightes our ears and highlights Illa J talent as singer! Now , put your headphones on and contemplate the mellow Sam Cook.
KOTA THE FRIEND – SUNNY DAY
And we finally get the chance to introduce to our international audience the immeasurable talent of Kota The Friend!
The Brooklyn lyricist and producer , brings to us true hip-hop music, meaningful lyrics , superb productions and shimmering bars in order to explain with quality music the world around us.
Palm Tree Liquor dropped last year, is the perfect introduction to Kota’s universe made of astonishing skills and deep content.
Palm Tree Liquor is an invitation to meditate about different topics such as being human and the “side effects”  that this condition entails , the complexity of the relationships and damn…we have to admit , Kota proves to be a real storyteller equipped with a mature and intelligent point of view! We highly recommend to listen closely the supa-smooth cut called Sunny Day.
VUYO RENENE – SOMEBODY (PRODUCED BY ECHLN)
Last year , in November we spotlighted the mellow r&b piece called Waiting For You recorded by South Africa artists Shirah Cheezer and Echln . Echln is a gifted record producer and sound engineer which graced our ears with interesting productions and for our 13th chapter of Stay Mellow series we thought to select anotha one by Mr. Maluleke. The track is called Somebody and it fully reflects the spirit of the selection imbued with mellow and soulful rhythms. Cape Town based singer/songwriter Vuyo Renene delights us with her hot voice which glides over the downtempo beat cooked by Echln.
IVAN AVE – THE CIRCLE (PRODUCED BY MNDSGN)
If you ask us to mention our favorite labels , well probably we’d answer back with Stones Throw , Mello Music Group , Dreamville , TDE , Record Breaking , Melting Pot Music , Tru Thoughts , Mass Appeal, Ovo Sound and last but not least Jakarta Records .
Brainchild of Malte Kraus and Jannis Stürtz , Jakarta label completely satisfies our appetite for quality good music delivering dope shit ,supporting brilliant artists and proving to be a staple for international acts such as grammy-nominated producer Like , Los Angeles femcee Ill Camille, canadian producer Kaytranada and Illa J among others.
Early last year, da boy-wonder Ivan Ave released via Jakarta one the most impressive hip-hop albums titled Helping Hands entirely produced by the creative hands of Mndsgn giving us a true piece of art! The Circle is the clear proof of the incredible and fruitful chemistry between the norwegian microphone maestro and the losangeleno producer!
H.E.R. – I WON’T (PRODUCED BY DJ CAMPER)
The difference between a self-proclaimed artist and a true, genuine performer is the ability to push people’s buttons, in order to induce particular feelings, emotions. It’s a rare gift but the r&b enigmatic singer known by the moniker of H.E.R (stands for Having Everything Revealed) is definitely the bearer of this incredible gift. She represents one of the most interesting r&b artists of the moment and through her sophomore compelling project she continues to earn postivie reviews and feedback from fans, journalists, musicians and bloggers. The Volume 2 is an explosion of seductive laid-back r&b cuts finely produced by Lophiile , Chris McClenney , Syk Sense , Swagg R’Celious , Grades and super-producer DJ Camper . The  New Jersey-bred producer is the genius behind the slow-burning I Won’t , so prepare yourself for an uplifting sonic experience!
SZA FEAT. KENDRICK LAMAR – DOVES IN THE WIND (PRODUCED BY CAM O’BI)
Put together TDE representatives SZA and Kendrick Lamar, add the touch of Las Vegas mastermind producer Cameron Osteen aka Cam O’Bi and the final result is something epic!
Recently r&b singer SZA leapt back with her brand new work called Ctrl  counting on da support of a supa-hot line up of artists that includes Travis Scott, James Fauntleroy, Iasaiah Rashad , K-Dot as well as hip-hop producers Antydote , Bēkon ,Carter Lang, the incredible Frank Dukes,Stix,Josef Leimberg,Prophit,Terrace Martin,ThankGod4Cody.
Doves In The Wind is def our favorite , as usual Cam O’bi wrapped a sampled-based exquisite backdrop which perfectly suits Sza intoxicating vocals and Kendrick laid-back rhymes.
NUWAMBA – FOR EVER
Texas native songwriter, producer, musician, singer Nuwamba graces our ears with some feel-good neo-soul grooves!
Addictive, sensuous, adorned with buttery melodies Nuwamba project called Above the Water (released via Bornsoulful Entertainment imprint), impressed us in particular with a song entitled For Ever, which sounds like an instant neo-soul classic.
