Reminder that the fall of the Berlin Wall was a tragedy for humankind, and that Marxist-Leninist LGBT+ Liberation will always be superior to rainbow capitalism. ☭ 🏳️‍🌈 ☭ 🏳️‍⚧️ ☭

Mališa (1987), directed by Boro Drašković, starring Bogdan Diklić, Milena Dravić, Predrag Manojlović, and Jelisaveta Sablić
The original poster of the heavily censored 1987 release in the German Democratic Republic. Due to the shifting political climate in the GDR, the Ministry of Culture (MfK) decided to cut out all scenes alluding to Serbian nationalist movements. Mališa was painted as a symbol of the internationally minded proletariat rising against imperialist oppression from the West. However, this heavily backfired because the GDR public immediately identified with the oppressed and hungry pigeon fighting for survival in a cruel system.

Day 19/100.
On today's walk.
Tumblr media
Back to the kitchen cupboard project.
Woo, it feels like Christmas! What's inside??
Tumblr media
More plates.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This flat plate goes with the Hansel & Gretel bowl. Little Red Riding Hood. I loved this plate set so much when I was little.
Tumblr media
A hand-painted decorative wall plate in the Hungarian Kalocsa style (Kalocsai).
Tumblr media
This bowl. It's large and wide and relatively shallow.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I used to use it for this really yummy black bean-corn-cilantro-lime juice summer salad. It also came in handy for holding half a watermelon. I haven't used it in at least 10 years. Time to let it go?
This plastic container. What's in it??
Tumblr media
Nothing!? What was it up there for?? Lol.
Tumblr media
At least it's clean. No nasty surprises.

Look, the video-maker is annoyingly anti-communist, he can't go half a second without saying "the victory of capitalism over socialism."
But the actual story is beautiful, and contrasts the result of imperialist and communist "developmental aid." While MNCs and colonial administrations corporatize the profits and socialise the risks in a textbook way, the DDR paid for literally ALL the infrastructure their Vietnamese comrades needed to grow their coffee industry. From dams to power processing, to trucks to ensure transport, to even the research and development needed for flavour optimization! And now, as a result, Vietnam has grown from a napalm-addled mess to the second biggest world producer of coffee.

Spy x Family takes place in fake!East Germany, but it’s society and especially the Eden Academy feels much more English. The German Democratic Republic had an upper class*, but that upper class didn’t distinguish themselves as much by cultural refinement and wealth, but by party membership and ideological commitment.
Personally I would prefer if the story would be more closely based on it’s inspiration, but 1) the humor would be harder to understand and 2) the story would need to discuss Cold War ideologies in more detail, both of which would make it less appealing.
So I am mostly fine with the world building as is.
--------------------------------
*unofficially, of course, ideologically they couldn’t admit to having an upper class
