Addressing the gathering, Prime Minister Modi highlighted the festive season's arrival and emphasised the significance of the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, recently passed in Parliament, which celebrates the spirit of Shakti Puja ahead of Navratri. The Prime Minister expressed his delight in inaugurating road connectivity projects that promise to transform the region. Notably, the Nagpur-Vijayawada Economic Corridor is expected to enhance transportation and trade across Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Maharashtra. This initiative is set to boost trade, tourism, and industry in these states, with key economic hubs, including eight Special Economic Zones, five Mega food parks, four fishing seafood clusters, three pharma and medical clusters, and one textiles cluster identified along the corridor. This development is anticipated to create numerous opportunities for the youth in districts like Hanamkonda, Mahabubabad, Warangal, and Khammam. Prime Minister Modi stressed the importance of rail and road connectivity for landlocked Telangana, allowing goods manufactured in the state to reach ports efficiently. Several significant economic corridors pass through Telangana, connecting the state to the East and West Coasts. The Suryapet-Khammam section of the Hyderabad-Visakhapatnam corridor is expected to facilitate this connectivity, as well as reduce logistics costs for industries and businesses. Additionally, the railway line construction between Jaklair and the Krishna section will be a vital development for the region. This board will focus on enhancing value addition within the supply chain and improving infrastructure for farmers. Turning his attention to the energy sector, Prime Minister Modi highlighted the government's commitment to securing energy for both industries and households. He cited the substantial increase in the number of LPG cylinders, from 14 crores in 2014 to 32 crores in 2023, as well as recent reductions in gas prices. The Hassan-Cherlapalli LPG Pipeline Project, a critical component of energy security in the region, was inaugurated during the event. Additionally, the Prime Minister laid the foundation stone for the Multiproduct Petroleum Pipeline, which will run from Krishnapatnam to Hyderabad, creating thousands of direct and indirect jobs in Telangana. He announced the establishment of a Central Tribal University in Mulugu district, named after the revered tribal goddesses Sammakka-Sarakka, with an estimated expenditure of Rs 900 crore. He congratulated the people of Telangana for this. [ad_1] During my recent participation as a keynote speaker at the International Museum Expo in India held on International Museum Day, I had the privilege of engaging with the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Minister of Culture, Tourism, and Development of Northeast Region, G Kishan Reddy and several like-minded members of the arts and culture community. We discussed the key role that museums play not only in our modern day but also in our future – the power they have to foster much needed exchange and connection in a world that is becoming increasingly polarised and undergoing rapid change. The words of PM Narendra Modi continue to resonate within me, "When a country starts conserving its heritage it gives rise to closeness with other countries also. Our heritage becomes the harbinger of world unity." It captures the essence of why museums matter beautifully. As I reflected on the great discussions I had with the participants and guests at the Expo at Pragati Maidan, I was reminded of what museums are uniquely positioned to do: they stand at the crossroads of tradition and innovation acting as guardians of art, culture and heritage, while conversing with people and society about change and the future. In a multipolar world, museums are dynamic spaces that foster connection, dialogue, and interaction. While housing relics from the past, museums are vibrant hubs that spark creativity and expand horizons, offering opportunities for exploration, education, and inspiration. So, now more than ever, as we see polarising discourses spread in the world, how do we learn from each other - leveraging our global museums to bridge the gaps between civilisations, geographies, and times? How can museums help us connect to each other, to our shared humanity?Drawing inspiration from the work of our own team at Louvre Abu Dhabi, I believe there are eight valuable models that museums worldwide can learn from and inspire each other, shaping a collective vision for the future.1. Introduce innovative and collaborative modelsEstablishing strong alliances and collaborative models enables museums to leverage the expertise and resources of different institutions, creating a more holistic and enriching visitor experience. For instance, under the umbrella of the Department of Culture and Tourism of Abu Dhabi, the Saadiyat Cultural District houses Louvre Abu Dhabi, which showcases a collaboration between the UAE and France, but also the upcoming Guggenheim Abu Dhabi Museum, a collaboration between the UAE and the New York based foundation. New models of governance encourage collaboration across international institutions, foster cultural exchange and broaden the scope of museums, allowing them to transcend borders and tell global stories.2. Curate shared collectionsMuseums must embrace the idea of shared collections. By incorporating masterpieces from around the world, museums create a more comprehensive narrative that showcases the extraordinary breadth of human creativity. Shared collections not only enrich the visitor experience but also promote cultural understanding and global connections. Beyond French loans and the UAE collection, Louvre Abu Dhabi also features ambassador objects from countries like Oman, Jordan, KSA, the Philippines, South Korea, and very soon I hope from India as well. This global tapestry fosters a sense of unity and highlights our shared connections and creativity.3. Through exhibition mobilityTraveling exhibitions allow museums to continuously reinvent themselves, attract new audiences, and stay relevant. By facilitating the exchange of traveling exhibitions between institutions, museums create opportunities for dialogue, collaboration and engagement. Louvre Abu Dhabi's Bollywood Superstars: A Short Story of Indian Cinema exhibition, which will travel to France in autumn, was created in collaboration with the Musée du quai Branly-Jacques Chirac and France Museums, showcasing with artworks and movies India's rich history of storytelling and contributing to the global conversation about art and culture. Another example is Cartier-Islamic Inspiration and Modern Design, a reinterpretation of the exhibition co-organised by the Musée des Arts Décoratifs and the Dallas Museum of Art, that we will be displaying at Louvre Abu Dhabi in November, this year.4. Boost tourism and economic diversificationMuseums play a vital role in promoting tourism, both domestically and internationally. By adopting innovative models of economic development, museums can attract visitors from around the world and contribute to the growth of their local economies. Besides providing direct and indirect employment, museums are also able to generate revenue through their locations, their food and beverage, the boutiques, and their intellectual property rights validation. In fact, museums can also foster economic growth by collaborating with diverse sectors, such as the partnership between the watchmaker brand Swatch and Louvre Abu Dhabi, which fused art and craftsmanship.5. Break down barriers and create a sense of belongingTo create a more inclusive and diverse visitor base, museums must break down material and financial barriers that may hinder individuals from accessing their galleries. Initiatives like offering free access to the museum for taxi drivers can help engage and welcome individuals from diverse backgrounds. To promote further inclusivity, it is important to empower people of determination and provide them with easy access to all museum facilities. At Louvre Abu Dhabi, besides providing them and their companion with a complimentary access, we also organise specialised guided tours for them to enrich their museum experience. Museums can create welcoming spaces that foster a sense of belonging for all visitors, regardless of their background.6. Embrace sustainability and promote environmental stewardshipEnvironmental awareness is a crucial aspect for museums to prioritise and cultivate within their spaces. Globally, the importance of sustainability and need to minimise environmental impact through responsible practices and initiatives has been a central focus for many countries, including the UAE. By adopting environmentally friendly practices, museums can conserve resources, reduce waste, and promote environmental stewardship.7. Foster exploration and advocate edutainmentChildren's museums must prioritise a holistic and enriching environment for young learners. By providing engaging experiences that foster exploration and learning, museums can ignite curiosity, spark imagination, and encourage active participation among young visitors. Interactive play areas, immersive experiences, and gamification elements, strike the perfect balance between entertainment and education. Our recent exhibition ‘Picturing the cosmos’ is an example of how the museum can be a place where children learn how to decipher the images, how to handle our contemporary world.8. Nurture talent and collaborative spiritInvesting in staff development is paramount for the success of museums. Institutions need to be committed to providing training and development for the next generation of museum national professionals, nurturing their talent, and ensuring the continued growth and excellence of the sector. Equally important is the integration of international expertise, fostering a collaborative environment that combines global perspectives with on-the-ground capacity building. These eight models will help ensure that the global museum landscape continues to evolve. In the UAE, we are embracing all these actions to illuminate the path for museums in the region to embrace change, engage audiences, and enrich lives. The areas prove the importance of collective efforts in reshaping museums for the future. I urge museums, professionals, educators, and policymakers to come together and collaborate on implementing these new models, to think beyond the individual models and envision a comprehensive transformation of the museum experience that positively advances the cause of shared humanity. What if we combine the power of alliances, shared collections, and economic development to create museums that transcend borders and tell global stories? Let us join hands and work towards using museums as spaces that do not just house the past, but shape the future. !(function(f, b, e, v, n, t, s) )( window, document, 'script', ); [ad_2]
