FINWEAN LADIES SERIES: FANIEL
After the births of Findis and Nolofinwë, Indis bore Finwë another daughter whom they called FANIEL. Faniel was tall and strong of body and dearly loved to roam the wilds of Aman. She was often joined in this pursuit by her younger sister Írimë. It is written that both Faniel and Írimë crossed the Helcaraxë during the Exile of the Noldor, however, their ultimate fates are unknown.

" The Free Worlds League reminds me of Clan Fire Mandrill in the way that they bicker and fight. I just witnessed a fist fight in a bar where a FWL Mechwarrior got in a fist fight with a merc outfit, a 2nd FWL Mechwarrior then entered the scuffle on the side of the mercs against his own. "

It happens to be that for...
...every thousandth work removed from the Chatterweb FicArc, the Sea Fox Technicians charged with curating it have a kind of unofficial roundup of all the causes for said removals, mostly for their own amusement. The latest one of them reported, among other items:
Most Frequent Removal Cause: inexcusably irreverent depiction of the bondsman system, at 489 works. (An even 500 if you include the specific 'bondcord does not go there' trope.)
Most Novel Removal Cause: Kentares Massacre denial, only featured in one work.
Fastest Removal: an untitled work that contained three paragraphs of filler before abruptly transitioning to a military analysis of FWL standard planetary defenses was taken down in six minutes. The moderation team still does not know who the information was intended to reach, nor why this medium was chosen.
Unofficial Kerensky Star for Artistic Excellence: A Kiss and a Crown ~ Four Kings in a Deck, a moving, passionate, heartbreaking, one-hundred-and-four chapter work on a whirlwind romance between "Aleksandra Kerensky", "Regina Cameron", "Jennifer Blake" and "Stefanie Amaris". Removed for sympathetic portrayal of the Usurper.
Protective Custody: Ruffled Feathers, which did not break any codes per se (in fact, it was quite scrupulously researched), but the moderators were certain that any fic containing the tag 'Alaric x Malvina' was going to get somebody killed and they had a duty to safeguard their users.
'Mechs Cannot Do That: ranging from 'improper technical specifications' to 'that is not where new 'mechs come from', 204 works were removed for hazardous misinformation on 'mech use and safety procedures.
Manifesto Mischief: eight works were removed for containing radicalizing material or messaging, ranging from statements deemed discriminatory and inflammatory in nature to straight-up bomb construction guides.
Personal Objections: two works were removed for allegations that the Chatterweb FicArc moderation Technicians are incompetent or overbearing.

Originally I wanted to ask how no one had given you the Yeoman to look at yet, but instead what's your take on the somewhat eclectic oeuvre of Curtiss Militech? They built the Wraith, Eagle, and Yeoman and one of these things is very much not like the others.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The FWL's most inscrutable company, taken from us by Regulan nuclear bombardment before their time 😔
Tumblr media
It has no arms. 'Mechs are supposed to have arms, quiaff? It terrifies, disgusts, and sickens me. And it has too many missiles. -Marik/10. Thank you, I hate it. May Turkina take my eyes. Meanwhile, the Eagle lacks the maneuverability of a true Light 'Mech and does not boast the protection of a Medium 'Mech, all in exchange for a limited weapons array that does not serve it that well. But I suppose it is cheap. And as an ancient Terran despot once said, "Quantity has a quality all its own." 5/10, not great, not terrible. The Wraith, however, is a good 'Mech. Fast, jump capable, well-armored, and with a potent weapons array, especially as one moves through the variants list - the TR5 especially so, even if it struggles with heat management. 8.5/10, excellent at proving that a water cooler company can have a one-hit military wonder. Overall, I would rate Curtiss Militech a solid Stick To Water Filters/10.
That they were nuked was, perhaps, a mercy for us all; judging by how their product designs decreased in quality (and indeed, sensibility) over the years, whatever they may have come up with in the modern era would likely have resembled a modern art piece more than a BattleMech, and been just as functional as the art piece.

First round of commission work is done! A pair of FWL lances done up in their custom militia colors, for 42 bucks. You can't even buy two boxes of unpainted IS mechs from Catalyst for that total!
Next up is a whoopin' 10 Clan mechs and a Black Marauder.
Get in on the cheap prices before I get busy!

Throwing up a little hobby/life update. Finally got through all my BS scheduling garbage at work. I now have enough energy to actually do things.
My printer is up and running again so I decided to try out some water washable resin and it's been phenomenal. I had 1 print failure due to me not leveling the build plate well enough through the entire Kg of resin. Everything came out perfectly after that one hangup. It's great being able to print unavailable variants and terrain again. (Mandatory reminder to support your LGS even if you print)

I also got a decent amount of progress on my Battletech minis as well. Currently working on a Magistracy of Canopus versus Free Worlds League thing to help my friends get into the game. Grabbed some FWL and MoC water transfers to add that little extra level of detail. I made sure that I had a Griffin and Wolverine in mind as well for quick tutorials. The Magistracy Wolverine isn't part of the lance, but making sure there was some theming for the 1v1 intro felt like it might help some players. Yes, I know I got the Rifleman's scheme backwards. Knowing the Purple Parakeets it's completely on brand so I'm not fixing it.

Lastly, I think I finally found an LGS to call home again. The only thing that sucks is that it's just over an hour away. Worth the drive though. They have this in their bathroom on the wall.

maybe I've said this before but a huge missed opportunity in BattleTech, with its interstellar jump ships having a (huge) 30-light-year jump range with all jumps out to max range being equivalent in terms of time needed, and all jumps having equal access to all standard jump points and pirate points in the destination system, is that there aren't any regions of space in the Inner Sphere where
each system belongs to a single country
the region as a whole belongs to multiple
each country is capable of traversing the whole region from any side to any side while only staying in their country's systems
the way their jump mechanics work, being 25 light years from the border inside of another country's space means your supply lines are only one jump longer than the ones running to the one border system, and you're not exposed to any more attack angles than that border system is.
An advantage of doing this from a game design perspective is that you get more worlds exposed to raiding and more borders. It's easier to justify a Free Worlds League raid into the Federated Suns if there's a borderlands in the Capellan sector (whether it's contested between the Capellans and the FWL or the FS doesn't really matter).
The Clans sort-of do this, but Clan worlds are more often than not split between multiple Clans. They're also Clanner weirdos.
The other big missed opportunity is that their space feudalism is really more space absolute monarchy with feudal trappings, except when they want to tell a story that's more specific to a vassal (like MechWarrior 4). If each of the Great Houses was a microcosm of the Star League, with 3-6 major Vassal Houses who they have to keep appeased, even if the Vassal Houses aren't explored very much (tho with how much BT canon there is, they'd end up getting explored), you'd also have reasons for, say, Kurita forces to fight Kurita forces (each vassal house buys their mechs from the same people as their liege does).
They do this a little bit with house Hasek but they should be more prominent and also have rivals and allies within Davion space (and, for that matter, allies within Liao space)
This would also explain why it took them 200 years to try a political marriage between two great houses, if the vassals had to be appeased. For 200 years, there was never a time when two Great Houses had enough consolidation of power over/support from their vassals at the same time to marry their heirs together like that.
Both of these increases to the chaos would also give more room for mercs and pirates to operate, which is always fun.
