A SIGN OF AFFECTION (2024) • YUBISAKI TO RENREN
No matter how much I love Emma, I'll never be a match for Itsu-kun. If only they'd started dating already... So I can finally throw these feelings away.

Here's the thing:
I can empathize with Emma to some degree. At the end of the day, she's just a girl with an intense crush on Itsuomi and constantly makes her feelings known to him hoping that one day, he'll feel the same way. Just peek high school girl behavior.
HOWEVER...
It has been literal years and Itsuomi has made it clear more than once that he is not interested and he's now in a relationship with Yuki. And Emma refuses to get the hint and even went as far as to try and make up a lie about spending the night with Itsuomi to chase Yuki away. So when she's at her job crying about how Itsuomi "ghosted" her over text, it's hard for me to feel even remotely bad for her.
Again, I feel for her on the "unrequited love" front. But for everything else, she needs to move on.

A Sign of Affection
TV Shows/Dramas watched in 2024
A Sign of Affection (2024, Japan)
Director: Yūta Murano
Writer: Yōko Yonaiyama (based on the manga by suu Morishita)
Mini-review:
This was really sweet! I loved that the relationship between the two leads was based on respect and consent, on helping their significant other spread their wings. The plot itself wasn't very eventful, but the characters were charming enough to make it interesting. It also helped that their designs were so beautiful and colorful. And while the animation wasn't mind-blowing, you could tell the studio put so much care and attention into making the scenes where the characters use sign language. So, yeah, I enjoyed A Sign of Affection and I would definitely recommend it to all romance fans.

It's amazing how in one episode A Sign of Affection managed me make me really like Emma, even though I honestly disliked her before this week's episode. Previously pretty much all we saw of her was her infatuation with Itsuomi, and that came off kinda annoying. Once we see what she's outside of that though, her character really gets to shine.
She's independent, she won't compromise her sense of self for the sake of others. She's outgoing, willing to reach out to someone who's seemingly a loner. Most of all, she's just so earnest. She's so unafraid to say how she feels and I really respect that. I absolutely buy why Shin would fall for her.
Yes, she absolutely still has her flaws and I do think her obsession with Itsuomi is unhealthy... but now she seems like a whole person, not defined by her love for a single man.
