It's official alright. This is damming news to hear after pass decades when show off its best (and sometimes weird) moments for video game fans; especially myself. I cherished good memories that they brought us from the like of Nintendo the most (among other gaming companies). May rest in peace, E3. It's been a good run while it lasted; for better or worse. 😔

E3 is officially over

Any E3 memories you would like to share?

I saw the news and it was really disappointing to see it end but after the events that happened during and post-pandemic it became an unfortunate inevitability. I feel like the writing was really on the wall the moment you had a major studio like Sony decide they were above E3 and basically hold their own event specifically for themselves. E3 especially became expendable when they showed how Summer Games Fest could ultimately take its place. It's kind of crazy how the dude from GameTrailers just took over everything video games and now E3 joins OG G4 in the digital underground.

Speaking of G4TV, I really missed getting to watch all the E3 events through them. It was like their fucking WrestleMania and we got to see it on television.

While we are fortunate to have other alternatives it certainly won't replace the vibe and the spectacle that E3 once had. I'll regret never getting to experience it myself. As far as I'm concerned E3 2019 was the series finale and getting to have Keanu Reeves repping Cyberpunk 2077 for that was quite the highlight that I'll never forget. I'll also never forget finding out about that game called Unravel and the entire wholesome presentation for it. That alone sold me on the game and it actually really set the tone for just what type of experience that was going to be. Still to this day the most touched a video game has ever made me feel.

And then there's that one Cammy from the Street Fighter event but we won't get into that.

I'm also in a way going to miss ALL the awkward hold for applause moments. Like, these people would be stubborn and wait for those hands to move. Nobody would keep the presentation going. "You ain't clapping for this mobile game? Well, I'll fucking wait till you do."

IGN reports that Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft will all be skipping E3 2023.

Microsoft will reportedly be doing a summer showcase (with some PR speak about timing that translates to ‘probably right around when E3 traditionally is,’) per the article, but not having booth presence.

Microsoft is ON THE ESA BOARD, so if the report is accurate and they’re skipping it is DEAD dead.

Em 1995, foi estabelecida a Electronic Entertainment Expo, também conhecida como E3, espaço no qual as grandes produtoras de games tiveram espaço para mostrar projetos inovadores para as próximas gerações. No entanto, a Entertainment Software Association, fez uma declaração recente no T-X(Twitter), dizendo que a E3 está cancelada permanentemente, o que indica que as edições de 2024 e 2025, ano em que o evento comemoraria 30 anos, estão fora dos planos da E.S.A., definitivamente. Atualmente o período de lançamentos de games no meio ano acontecem através de showcases próprios, e pelo Summer Games Fest, evento anual que apresenta diversas novidades sobre o mundo dos games. A última edição presencial da E3 foi em 2019, e naquela época tinha muito impacto na indústria de games.

Depois de mais de duas décadas de E3, cada uma maior que a anterior, chegou a hora de dizer adeus. Obrigado pelas lembranças.

Diversos acontecimentos corroboraram para essa decisão, tais como a ascensão de novos competidores, eventos digitais(sendo um dos maiores exemplos a Nintendo Direct), e a pandemia do Coronavírus em 2020, que causou o cancelamento massivo de diversos eventos presenciais.
