Hearts beat 10-man Killie to maintain 100% record
Uche Ikpeazu’s header gave Hearts their third Premiership win out of three as 10-man Kilmarnock succumbed to defeat.
Jamie MacDonald denied Hearts’ Jimmy Dunne and Olly Lee in the first half and Ikpeazu nodded off the top of the crossbar in the second.
Killie had Gary Dicker sent off for his challenge on Callumn Morrison before MacDonald made another fine save to keep out Steven MacLean’s header.
But Ikpeazu eventually beat the goalkeeper with a delicate header.
Steven Naismith almost doubled the visitors’ lead with a shot off the post against his former club.
The hosts lose in the league for the first time this season and for the second week running after being knocked out of the League Cup by Rangers on Sunday.
This game pitted the sides that finished fifth and sixth in the Premiership last season. It always looked like being a tight match.
Hearts edged it in terms of chances in a stop-start, frustrating first half where entertainment was at a premium.
The big moment came in the second half. Was Gary Dicker’s red card merited? Difficult to say the stand but referee was in no doubt.
It became a test of character for both sides – could Kilmarnock hold on for a point? Would Hearts find a way through?
In the end, Hearts would get a big goal through their big striker Ikpeazu, the delight clear as he rushed to the technical area to celebrate with his fellow players and technical staff.
The celebrations underlined the feel-good factor that clearly exists at Hearts right now as they continue their 100% start to their Premiership campaign.
More to follow.
