Gatherum DnD. Also me rambling about two DnD Characters
So, since I’m stuck here at the airport for the near future, I’m going back and forth between reading Wilde, and browsing tumblr. I then realized something. It seems a few in the Gatherum are quite fond of DnD, which isn’t, and shouldn’t be, a surprise to anyone in the slightest. Given we are a Gatherum of nerds as well as Scowlers. So, with that in mind fellow Scowlers, what’s your usuals in DnD? Which edition, Class, Race, etc? And what was your first character or other favorites? In my case, have always played Fifth Edition. Generally Human, Gnome (Tinkering) or Half Elf (that Charisma Bonus). Generally go with Bard and have recently done a Rogue (was a Barbarian once). Now to describe two characters, for fun. First DnD character I ever made was a Half Elf. Bifflindi the Bard, with three i’s( though technically three eyes). He played the Jouhikko, the Violin, and the Tabor Pipe. I made the blunder of making some ridiculous backstory for him, so get comfy, this might take a while. Born in a city of isolation High Elves, the young Half Elf was ignored by everyone including his mother. The one person to give him any thought was a Bard who acted as his teacher. The young High Elf (who was given the name Eadmure by his teacher) left when he was 18 or so. He soon resorted to begging, until a passing young Noblewoman heard his music. Took him in, gave him a meal, hired him on as one of several Bards she employed including a Dwarf Playwright. Things went well. The Lady Irene had Eadmure read Elvish stories from the land of Lang. They were close. Eventually, unfortunately for young Eadmure, Lady Irene would see Suitors becoming quite taken with one in particular. Eadmure hates him due to his poor taste in music (only Lute Music, never anything else!). At one point this suitor officially began courting Irene, and the two were engaged. Unfortunately, during the engagement party circumstances led to the Fiancé learning about the earlier relationship between Irene and Eadmure. This ended in Eadmure losing an eye. After that incident, Eadmure was offered to leave with his Dwarf friend, Gierskogul (butchered spelling) the Playwright. Before leaving he was called in by Irene and her Husband. He was given a full apology, when it was made clear he was leaving he was given three gifts. First, the dagger used to take his eye. Second a brilliantly made Glass green eye (possibly something fancier). Third, he was granted the highest honor of picking a name for the couple’s new born. He decided on the Name Eadmure. Should note, no one actually knew his name and Irene only ever addressed him as Sirah. (THE TIME WITH LAME JOHN)Upon leaving with Geirskogül he attended a Bard College of Lore. While there he witnessed a Storyteller known as Lame John (think the Storyteller from Jim Henson’s the Storyteller). After constant begging (after recognizing a story from the Land of Lang) he was allowed to join Lame John and his dog Brian (which talked of course) home and learn from him. Lame John’s Home turned out to be a Castle that was A hundred miles from everywhere up in the far north. Said Castle was staffed by Goblins and Imps (because the Storyteller and Labyrinth of course). So Eadmure, now going by Biflindi (a name given to him by his Dwarf friend Geirskogul) began learning. He learned court manners, a story every night that he’d be asked to retell every story at the end of the week. Also every other week Lame John would have the strangest guests. Two constants were an old man who said he was an Archeologist and Wizard, another Wizard who was also a beggar. These two knew John personally. Then there’d be other guests. Kings, Dukes, and dignitaries of every race. Humans, Elves, Dwarves, Tieflings, Celestials and others. Everything and anything would come to the Castle to feast and Play at Cards. John and his friends would win nearly every game and end the night far richer than they started. The next night John would invite Beggars for dice, and proceed to lose just about all the winnings earned the previous night. At the end of every month, Lame John would tell Biflindi how to get to the land of Lang. It basically was all just Travel advice. Then the last day came. After stories, Games, court manners, Stone Soup, and even learning the Proper way to meet a Dragon, John gave him one last bit of advice to get to the Land of Lang. Step outside. Biflindi and John walked outside into a beautiful Forest, which Biflindi found odd since John’s Castle was on a high mountain not in a forest. John gave Biflindi some gifts. A deck of Cards, a Stone (for soup), a coat for warmth (it was the middle of Winter), and three Biscuits. John and Brian went back inside, the Castle Vanashing before Biflindi’s eyes. So with a Coat, a Stone, a deck of Cards, and Three biscuits, Biflindi the Bard with Three i’s began his trek toward the Land of Lang. I’ll share the rest later, if anyone is interested, I might share it later anyway. Make of this what you will.
