Man in a Suitcase: Three Blinks of the Eyes (1.28, ITC, 1968)
"This is your American sense of honour?"
"No, man, that's just a little English one-upmanship."
#man in a suitcase#three blinks of the eyes#itc#classic tv#1968#vincent tilsley#charles crichton#richard bradford#faith brook#drewe henley#charles lloyd pack#dora reisser#john gabriel#colin jeavons#yvette herries#hans de vries#anne chapman#cheryl st. clair#rené sartoris#the penultimate episode in production‚ this was another i didn't particularly remember save for the scenes of McGill in a Paris jail#are French jails really so dungeony...? the plot is a classic frame job with McGill needing to extricate himself from the burden of guilt#and it's a fun time! a couple of notables: McGill is finally explicitly linked with the CIA (rather than the more vague 'American#Intelligence') plus it's pretty overtly implied that he sleeps with Dora Reisser's character (about as overt as itc were willing to go#anyway). i absolutely didn't remember the fabulous dance sequence in the Paris nightclub‚ which is a surprise bc it's very striking and#quite unlike most of what the series did. Faith Brook would actually have been known to US audiences as she'd spent several years on tv#over there in bit parts before returning to her native UK. Henley was a young up and comer who'd just had a supporting part in the BBC's#celebrated 67 version of Wuthering Heights. Jeavons of course was a very familiar character actor (still with us but long retired afaik)#but he's rather wasted in a nothing role as the prison guard who bothers McGill with grim tales of the guillotine. it's fairly unlikely#McGill would have been executed; altho the guillotine was used until 1977‚ death penalties were relatively rare during the fifth republic#and mainly reserved for particularly heinous crimes‚ not the crime of passion McGill is accused of.

They're not gonna hang me, Major. I never raped that evil slut, or any other creature. The lord gave me that woman and told me to chastise her.

A jazz group the Arthur Rogers Modern Jazz Quintet are having their London debut. They are frustrated that the compositions they play are organised already for them for their shows. The mysterious band manager provides the compositions and often with very little time beforehand. Carlos Varela stumbles across the hidden reason for these songs being curated for the band, it may have something to do with the important people attending the concerts.
Personal Synopsis
Off the banks of the Thames near the Wharf Pier lies Mercury International where Carlos Varela begins his story in this series. Carloss intelligence and charm plays to his spy-like coolness and bachelor style all make this character a great cover for whatever he is up to. This first episode sets the scene for a series of mysterious and chivalrous action.

Special Branch: Entente Cordiale (4.8, Thames, 1974)
"You've made a lot of waves over this shooting - and you'll have to do a great deal better than this if you want to come out of the inquest unscathed, let alone an A10 inquiry."
"I can only write what happened, Sir."
"Then think about it, Mr. Haggerty. Think hard!"
