Other notes

All male youma except Regulus are transformed humans and, in one case, a transformed cat. In addition, of the transformed humans, only Akan and Zoyrin Geller 2 aren't members of the Seven Great Youma.

Despite female youma outnumbering males nearly 5 to 1, the Seven Great Youma almost reverse this, with five males and two females.

There are more female youma than male monsters of the week combined.

Chiral and Achiral may not actually be droids, since they bear the Black Moon crest on their foreheads and don't turn to sand when killed. However, Wikimoon lists them as droids, and so I will too.

Phages are the only type of MotW where males outnumber females, and the most balanced genderwise.

The second-most balanced genderwise are lemures, due in part to the fact that both the Amazon Trio and Amazoness Quartet have members that exclusively use male lemures.

What are your favorite MotDs from the 90s anime?

This deserves an Effort Post, so I’ll do a top 5 (in no particular order). Complete with screenshots.

Cenicienta (Episodes 101 & 102)

Not only does she have impressive powers (and a clever name, being the Spanish title for “Cinderella”), she even has a warranty if any part of her breaks.

Doorknobdar (Episode 109)

She only knows how to make doors, and doesn’t really know how to fight. But she tries her best anyway.

Puko-chan (Episode 132)

A big beautiful woman who prefers to be a big beautiful woman. Appreciates romance. Will smother you with love.

Sailor Guts (174)

The manliest man who ever manned a manly man. But still comfortable enough in his masculinity to don a frilly speedo and a giant tit ribbon.

Kyurene (Episode 6)

Genuinely cool and creepy, voiced by Emi Shinohara before she took on the role of Makoto, and a surprisingly awesome MotD for such an early episode. But episode 6 is great in general. She will probably lose your cassette tapes though…assuming you still have any.
