A native Nuyorican 🙋🏽‍♂️, I grew up blocks away from @LincolnCenter in #HellsKitchen.
A neighborhood kid, I was exposed to dance, musical theater & film. But ballet, classical music & opera at LC were always art forms that I was made to feel was the property of old rich white people, not for me.
Tumblr media
Upon returning home from college in the 90’s, I was determined to change that experience for myself. I joined LC’s “Young Subscriber” series for a season. I was one of a handful of non-white faces in the auditorium, I felt welcomed but not quite accepted. #itscomplicated
That said, I didn’t feel alienated by the music 🎼 itself.
My appreciation of classical music was the cultivated privately via TV and CD. (Later on YouTube and streaming.) In-person experiences were limited to @nyphilharmonic in Central Park.
Over the decades, my love for Lincoln Center has grown exponentially. I have seen a number of ballets and operas 💕 . But classical music and the symphony space was still out-of-reach to me.
Along came the pandemic, all pomp and circumstance was indefinitely suspended. It was a comfortable (aka non-threatening) time to explore as cultural outlets were limited.
In 2021, the universe sent a very skilled and proficient guide, Clemency Burton-Hill, into my path. 📚 🎻 #YearofWonder. With a gentle nudge, I have allowed myself to be embraced by classical music.
Who amongst us hasn’t felt emotionally displaced in the last few years? Managing anxiety seems to have become my part-time unpaid job. I have never leaned in more on music-and-art. It has been a retreat and informal therapy.
This past weekend, I read LC had completed its $500 million renovation of David Geffen Hall, I wanted to see it in-person. Also, I appreciated how the foundation is actively reaching to Black and Hispanic New Yorkers, whose ancestors were driven from the Upper West Side when their neighborhood, San Juan Hill, was razed in the 1950’s. I look forward to to transforming my experiences with the venue.
Also, all these life experiences has allowed me to create a new healing mind/body product H2shO™️ Classical, to be announced shortly.

Today We Honor Tania León
Afro Latina Tania León is a Cuban born American Pulitzer Prize Composer and Conductor, who won the award in 2021 for ‘Stride,’ her orchestral work inspired by Susan B. Anthony’s activism.
León is an educator at the City University of New York and the founding Composer of Composer Now, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting and celebrating living composers.
“The beat must go on. Specifically, the one toward the end of the last section.”That’s composer Tania León’s only note for the New York Philharmonic at a recent rehearsal in freshly finished David Geffen Hall.
The Kennedy Center honoree has been an unstoppable force in expanding the possibilities of what American “classical” music can — and ought to — sound like.
Since arriving in the United States from Cuba as a 24-year-old refugee, León, has become one of the most essential voices in American classical music. Over her prolific 50-year career, León has composed orchestral, chamber and choral works, and operas and ballets — music that draws partially from decades of classical training, but most potently from her own sharp musical instincts, which fuse the rhythms and colors of the folk music she grew up listening to in Havana with a mesmerizing modernism.
Tania León (center) with Karel Shook (left) and Arthur Mitchell (right), founders of the Dance Theatre of Harlem, working on the score of León’s first ballet, ‘Tones.’

More on why Barry name-dropped Ben and what that meant going forward. Remember David Geffen's infamous celebrity yatch cruises? Barry's stupid Town Hall meeting in London? How we suspected that Ben had been poisoned during 2018-19 with the help of Chantelle Manners because he looked like a chemo patient? You know what else we heard around that time? That the Rat had gotten a legal letter telling them to not to protect Ben from Cunter. From a "disgruntled ex" with clout? It all depends on if said ex was an agent. Why? Because Cunter is one of Ben's most sadistic Handlers who was happy to punish him on behalf of Barry, Killary etc for failing as a high-level asset. See, it helps to trade little spy favors for special consideration when auditioning for big acting roles but you better deliver. Why do you suppose a CIA agent floated Ben's name for the 'War Magician' during a conference and noted the audience's negative reaction? Maskelyne was an illusionist and Doctor Strange is a sorcerer. Magicians are always associated with psyops. Guess the HUMINT Ben gathered via pillow talk and his courier work wasn't up to snuff. He's charismatic and a skilled actor but not nearly as convincing as he thinks he is IRL. Come to think of it, Barry and Co aren't doing too good RN. I daresay Ben, you've really stuck both feet in it 🤨...

#pafpicoftheweek | What better view could you ask for on a sunny Sunday than Nina Chanel Abney’s "San Juan Heal?” Located on the 65th street facade of David Geffen Hall, this artwork, links the past to the present @lincolncenter, paying homage to San Juan Hill's rich history.
