SEMA GARAGE OPENS IN DETROIT
Tumblr media
PLYMOUTH, Mich. (Aug. 19, 2022) – The SEMA Garage in Detroit, Mich., is now open for business. The new 45,000-square-foot facility represents a significant milestone for the automotive aftermarket industry and is the first-ever research facility dedicated to testing and understanding how the aftermarket is impacted and can successfully work with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).   Located in Plymouth, Mich. – just 30 miles from Detroit – the SEMA Garage Detroit features a large ADAS technology center, an installation center, and will expand to include a four-wheel chassis dyno lab, and another dyno lab capable of testing diesel and gasoline tailpipe emissions. Like the high-tech SEMA Garage in Diamond Bar, Calif., the Detroit facility will give aftermarket parts manufacturers access to sophisticated resources that are typically accessible only to large-scale manufacturers.   “The SEMA Garage Detroit is a game changer in helping aftermarket manufacturers develop products for today’s sophisticated automobiles,” said Ben Kaminsky, SEMA Garage Detroit General Manager. “We will be collaborating with automakers, suppliers, and key players in the industry to conduct some groundbreaking research. We are really going to be able to take product development and testing capabilities to a whole new level.”   Similar to the facility in Diamond Bar, the SEMA Garage in Detroit will feature exclusive OEM measuring sessions, scanning services, advanced tools and equipment, a CARB-recognized emissions lab, and a modern training center for members to use. Since opening in 2014, the SEMA Garage in Diamond Bar has helped manufacturers to secure more than 600 Executive Orders (EOs) from the California Air Resources Board (CARB) – more than any other testing facility.   The SEMA Garage in Detroit will offer all SEMA members complimentary access to automotive garage tools and equipment for aftermarket product development, R&D, prototyping, and measuring sessions. Additionally, the facility is available for trainings, how-to/installation videos, product reveals, and production video and photography.   Moreover, 5,000 of the 45,000-sq.-ft. building will be devoted exclusively to research on ADAS. The ADAS Center represents a new venture for SEMA, where manufacturers will be able to obtain static calibration of on-board vehicle ADAS systems (radars and cameras). With access to OEM-quality equipment and procedures, manufacturers will be able to easily troubleshoot software/hardware obstacles, as well as work on dynamic testing in conjunction with local facilities.   “The SEMA Garage Detroit facility opens up new doors and opportunities for our member companies and SEMA,” said Kaminsky. “We will be able to elevate our current offerings by making the services accessible to new members, incorporating new technology, and collaborating with key partners in the area.”   The Detroit facility is three times larger than the SEMA Garage in Diamond Bar. SEMA Garage Detroit features new equipment, such as emissions and horsepower testing for all-wheel-drive and diesel vehicles, vehicle lifts, full sets of tools, fabrication equipment, an alignment rack, 3D scanning tools, and engineering software. The lab accommodates a 48-inch all-wheel-drive chassis dynamometer and includes a new emissions test bench. With equipment that meets CARB’s new 1066 testing requirement standards, SEMA Garage Detroit will be able to perform all required CARB and EPA test procedures.   “SEMA Garage provides manufacturers access to tools and equipment without the exorbitant individual costs,” said Kaminsky. “Manufacturers no longer need to rely on trial and error for their product development, reducing costs and increasing efficiency. SEMA Garage Detroit will enable more manufacturers access to our resources.”    Through the SEMA Garage’s resources, manufacturers are often able to develop fully functional prototypes in as little as two weeks and obtain CARB EOs in as little as 12 weeks. The SEMA Garage Detroit facility is now open for members. For more information, visit www.semagarage.com.  Read the full article

''Mr. Norm'' Kraus, the High Performance King, 1934 - 2021
From pump jockey to Dodge dynamo, a high-performance rags-to-riches story By Terry Shea from April 2012 issue of Muscle Machines In This Article Category: Muscle Cars [Editors note: Norm Kraus passed away on Friday, February 26, 2021 at the age of 87. This profile from 2012 sums up Mr. Norm's immense contribution to muscle car history.]Perhaps no one was responsible for more sales of Dodge performance vehicles during the muscle-car era than Norm Kraus, AKA Mr. Norm. As a co-owner of Grand Spaulding Dodge in Chicago from 1962 through 1977, his focus on high performance helped it become the biggest Dodge dealership in the world.Norm and his brother Len, his co-owner, got their start selling used cars as teenagers in the late 1940s from their father's gas station. Making just three cents per gallon pumping gas and cleaning windshields, they wanted something more. At the suggestion of a customer, "My brother and I went out and bought a bagel--a cheap car," recounts Norm. "We brought it back and put it in the corner of the gas station, cleaned it up and sold the car the next day and made $60 on it." With a steady business, the brothers broke through in the late 1950s when they sold a 1956 Chevy convertible with a V-8 and manual transmission. Paying by the character for a classified ad, they squeezed in "Call Mr. Norm," which soon became a signature for the business. But the car itself proved very popular. "The next morning," says Norm, "I must have had 25 calls. By 10 a.m., I had already delivered it. By 11, my brother, who was out buying cars, called me and I said, 'Do not buy a regular car again. Buy all four-speeds.' We got an education in performance from our customers. We got so well known in the Chicago area, that's when Dodge came in." In the fall of 1962, still with only a small office and no real showroom, Grand Spaulding Dodge opened. At just 28 years old, Norm Kraus was the youngest Dodge dealer in the country. "I think the first month we sold about 35 cars." Norm tells us. "From that day on, it was totally performance."As one of the first dealers to install a dynamometer, Grand Spaulding was able to properly tune their customers' cars, which were notoriously detuned from the factory. "The first 383 we put on our dyno registered 180hp," says Norm. "I said, 'What the hell is going on here? Let's set it up and see what she'll do.'" With a little work, they were able to get that 383 to make a reliable 325hp. Norm made a quick decision. "That's gonna be done on every car that goes out. Every high-performance customer is going to get a free dyno tune. When we sold a high-performance car, we had the car dyno'ed right in front of the customer." When a minor sponsorship one weekend turned into five sales by Wednesday, on Thursday Norm was ready to go racing. Not wanting to compete against his customers, he decided to build a match-race car. "Our first 1964 supercharged car," Norm says, "became one of the first Funny Cars in the country, because when we went out racing, we were running against all the gassers and the rails. There weren't any other Funny Cars to run." A 1965 ex-factory lightweight car allowed them to run well into the eights when the competition was in the nines, putting Mr. Norm on the map nationwide. With their booming performance business, Grand Spaulding was selling cars and parts all over the country. People from as far away as Alaska came to buy Mopars. Such was Norm's influence, he could single-handedly get Chrysler to produce a new model. When Chrysler said that a big-block Dart was impossible, Norm had his top mechanic stuff a 383 into one and he drove it to Detroit to prove it could be done; thus was born the Dart GTS. The following year, he asked Chrysler to build him a 440 Dart. They built 50 for him, which he was easily able to sell as the Dart GSS, for Grand Spaulding Sport. The Kraus brothers grew

Project 8 Power 🇬🇧 ______________________________________ The Jaguar Project 8 is a monster all in its own but it’s pretty expensive! Once on a Dyno, the real numbers of the Project 8 come out and they are pretty surprising! 🔥 Under the vented hood it packs a 5.0L Supercharged V8 making 592HP and 516 lb-ft of torque as quoted by Jaguar! On the Dyno, it looks like the V8 is really making 601HP and 506 lb-ft of torque at the crank but less than 500HP at the wheels which is a substantial drivetrain loss! It can hit 60MH in 3.3sec and it has a 200MPH TopSpeed🔥 SVO gave the Project 8 lots of performance bits like loads of carbon aero, a vented hood, 20in wheels, a massive wing, a widebody, AWD, a fully flat underbody, a intense rear diffuser, stiffer springs, ceramic brakes and tighter steering! Only thing is that it costs $188,495.... ________________________________________ EXTRA: There is one of these in purple and it’s amazing! 😱 ________________________________________ - - #Jaguar #v8 #Uk #Detroit #JLR #JAG #British #Project8 #SVO #Jag #monster #drive #carbon ||#powerful #performance #turbocharged #supercharged #advanced #SupercarsRevamped #Supercar #HyperCar #ItsWhiteNoise #CarLifeStyle #MadWhips #CupGang #Carstagram #BlackList #AmazingCars247 An #allcarnews post https://www.instagram.com/p/BowN5_eBBBw/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=mz3xoatn0635

Originally built as a match racer by Dodge, when it came time to test the truck out they only had one name in mind: Bill “Maverick” Golden. Golden, who had been running Super Stock for years and had landed on Ma Mopar’s radar after putting “Dyno” Don Nicholson on the trailer at the 1962 AHRA Winternationals, had been making a name for himself in the racing world. He was one of the first successful racers running an automatic car, which came about when he and a friend started messing with the spring-loaded weights inside the TorqueFlite. He gained factory support with a “parts deal” in 1960, was getting factory cars by 1962, and by 1964 was something to fear on the AHRA circuit in a bright yellow Hemi-powered Dodge 330. Around the end of the 1964 season, Dodge asked Golden to come up to Detroit to check out a new vehicle that they had prepared.

Around the end of the 1964 season, Dodge asked Golden to come up to Detroit to check out a new vehicle that they had prepared. There, at the shop of Dick Branster (of “Color Me Gone” fame), was the truck: a Dodge A-100 with a 426 Hemi and TorqueFlite mounted pretty much mid-ship that was drinking 30% nitro. Originally it was designed for A/FX and ran some races, but the reaction of the fans to the truck’s notorious nose-high runs soon inspired Chrysler’s PR guy, Frank Wylie, and in short order the Little Red Wagon wheelstander was born. Over the years, several A-100s became the Little Red Wagon: in addition to the original truck, which was wrecked in 1969, there was one replacement (wrecked in 1971), a truck built from parts scavenged from the first two (which wrecked in Canada in 1975 and almost killed Golden), and the “show truck”, built in 1967 and repurposed in the mid-1970s as the performance truck. This last A-100 would be the wheelstander that would be seen by fans worldwide up until Golden’s retirement in 2003. In 2011 Golden was reunited with his last drag car, the 1964 Dodge 330 nicknamed “The Taxi Cab” for it’s trademark yellow-and-black paint.” via @bangshift
