Photo by @amivitale. This is a CALL OUT for girls that are between 15 to 25 years-old that are demonstrating leadership in her community. Apply for yourself or nominate someone you know for the @rippleeffectimages Forces of Nature Award. The winner will receive financial support, mentorship, and promotion of her projects. Deadline: July 15. Hurry! and click on the link in my profile! In this photo, @hindououmar collects water with the women of the village of Gouwa, Chad. At the age of 15, Hindou, a member of the Mbororo pastoralist community, founded the Association of Indigenous Peul Women and Peoples of Chad (AFPAT), an organization focused on rights and environmental protection. Since then, she has taken her work on behalf of indigenous peoples, women and the environment to the highest levels frequently addressing the @unitednations urging action. She received the 2019 Pritzker Environmental Genius Award by @uclaioes, a prize I'm proud to have nominated her for. I traveled to Chad with @rippleeffectimages to document Hindou's work. @natgeo @uclaioes @thephotosociety @nikonusa #PritzkerEnvironmentalGeniusAward #inspiring #inspiration #humanitarian #climatechange #mitigation #pritzkergeniusaward #globalwarming #adaption #mbororo #indigenous #indigneouspeople #nikonnofilter #nikonambassador #nikonlove #amivitale #globalwarming #climateemergency #climateadvocacy #climateadaption #therippleeffect #empathyiseverything (at Chad) https://www.instagram.com/p/CQHRRhVhUNT/?utm_medium=tumblr

A father plays with his son in front of the community's herd of cattle in the village of Gouwa, about a hundred miles north of the capital of N’Djamena, Chad. The Mbororo, also known as Wodaabe travel during the wet season, following the rains from the south to the north. Groups of several dozen relatives, including children and elders, travel on foot, donkey or camel, and stay at each grazing spot only for a couple of days. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 📸 Repost • @amivitale. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ @conservationorg @photography.for.good @natgeo @natgeoimagecollection @thephotosociety @nikonusa #PritzkerEnvironmentalGeniusAward #checkoutafrica #inspiring #inspiration #humanitarian #wisdom #climatechange #mitigation #pritzkergeniusaward #globalwarming #adaption #mbororo #indigenous #indigneouspeople #letgirlslearn #educateagirl #thefutureisfemale #education #nikonnofilter #nikonambassador #nikonlove #globalwarming #climateemergency #climateadvocacy #climateadaption #therippleeffect #rippleeffectimages #rippleeffect — view on Instagram https://ift.tt/3gLU61Z

San Diegans who believe #ClimateChange is not a hoax will gather Tuesday, February 21st at 6 p.m. at the Federal Building. We will call upon the President, House and Senate to implement a National World War II-scale Mobilization to transition the U.S. from fossil fuels to #renewableenergy. The theme of the rally will be “Climate Change is not a Hoax and Make Your Voice Heard.” The San Diego Climate Mobilization Coalition is part of the Climate Mobilization http://www.theclimatemobilization.org/, a nationwide #climateadvocacy and #environmentalaction organization based in New York City. Speakers include: – Wesley Clark, Jr., Dakota Access Pipeline Activist and organizer of U.S. military veterans to support the water protectors of Standing Rock, South Dakota. – Diane Takvorian, Executive Director, Environmental Health Coalition – Ruben Arizmendi, Chairman, San Diego Sierra Club – Cody Petterson, Vice President, Impact Assessment Call to Mobilize http://www.theclimatemobilization.org/sign_the_pledge 1. Immediately commence a social and economic mobilization to restore a climate that is safe, stable, and supportive of human civilization. 2. Reduce our country’s net greenhouse gas emissions 100 percent by 2025 3. Enlist tens of millions of Americans in efforts to rapidly expand our carbon-neutral energy and agricultural systems, conduct groundbreaking research, and implement large-scale adaptation measures. 4. Conduct this mobilization in accordance with the Constitution and ensure that the essential needs of the civilian economy are met during this time of transition. 5. Establish the following imperatives as our nation’s top foreign policy priorities: A 100 percent reduction of global net greenhouse gas emissions at wartime speed, and the deployment of comprehensive measures that remove greenhouse gases from the atmosphere until a safe climate is restored. #ActOnClimate #Mobilize #NoDAPL #SDCAN @EHCSanDiego @SierraClubSD @TheClimateMobilization

Photo by @amivitale. Please join me tomorrow morning, April 22nd 9:30 AM ET, as I interview the extraordinary Hindou Oumarou Ibrahim (@hindououmar) on @Instagram live for @conservationorg on Earth Day. Hindou is an indigenous activist and a member of the Mbororo community who is working to harness centuries of wisdom and weather-predicting techniques they hold, to adapt to the impact of climate change. She is the founder of the Association of Peul Women and Autochthonous Peoples of Chad (AFPAT), a member of the @UnitedNations’s Indigenous Peoples Forum on Climate Change, UN SDG Advocate and a @Conservationorg Lui-Walton Senior Fellow. She was the recipient of the 2019 @uclaioes Pritzker Environmental Genius Award recipient, a prize I'm honored to have nominated her for. In the talk, we will discuss the crucial role that indigenous peoples play in the climate movement. It's part of @conservationorg's daylong #EarthDay Instagram Live event. Don't miss it. @natgeo @natgeoimagecollection @thephotosociety @nikonusa @photography.for.good @rippleeffectimages #PritzkerEnvironmentalGeniusAward #inspiring #inspiration #humanitarian #wisdom #climatechange #mitigation #pritzkergeniusaward #globalwarming #adaption #mbororo #indigenous #indigneouspeople #nikonnofilter #nikonambassador #nikonlove #amivitale #globalwarming #climateemergency #climateadvocacy #climateadaption #therippleeffect (at Chad) https://www.instagram.com/p/B_Q5pyCBlOW/?igshid=1gsjhoy4s94x2

Photo by @amivitale. People disperse after a ceremonial dance while children look on in the village of Gouwa, about a hundred miles north of the capital of NíDjamena, Chad. There is no television here, no electricity and probably because of this, the art of storytelling, dance and culture is an important celebration of life for the Mbororo people. They are nomadic pastoralists and travel during the wet season, following the rains from the south to the north. Groups of several dozen relatives, including children and elders, travel on foot, donkey or camel, and stay at each grazing spot only for a couple of days. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I was in Chad on behalf of @rippleeffectimages capturing the work of @hindououmar, a member of the Mbororo community, who is working to harness the centuries of wisdom and weather-predicting techniques held by the community, to adapt to the impact of climate change. @hindououmar recently received the 2019 Pritzker Environmental Genius Award by @uclaioes, a prize I'm proud to have nominated her for. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ @conservationorg @photography.for.good @natgeo @natgeoimagecollection @thephotosociety @nikonusa #PritzkerEnvironmentalGeniusAward #inspiring #inspiration #humanitarian #wisdom #climatechange #mitigation #pritzkergeniusaward #globalwarming #adaption #mbororo #indigenous #indigneouspeople #nikonnofilter #nikonlove #globalwarming #climateemergency #climateadvocacy #climateadaption #therippleeffect #rippleeffectimages #rippleeffect (at Chad) https://www.instagram.com/p/B7UhkhKhUhv/?igshid=1nt1719owjr0n
