like I am so glad I started out sports fandom in hockey bc the trades could be absolutely brutal sometimes and you could never bother getting too attached to a friendship since one of them could literally be sent across the country - even in the middle of a game.

yeaaaaaa anon I'm sorry but I'll never buy into the 'charlos is pure PR stuff' these are real businesses and if driver bromances were so important then they wouldn't do what they've done today lol. charlos is on par w carlando for corporate-condoned publicity appeal so if it was nothing but PR then they'd have arranged a joint video/joint statement video by now and made sure to hang onto those fans the way McLaren did w Carlos and Daniel.

and like, to imagine that Carlos and Charles are such good actors all this time is hysterical. I'm not being mean here anon I just truly can't accept that even half of their chemistry is wholly planned and contrived.

listen, everyone except Oscar (bless his innocent unpretending little heart) recognizes that their relationships to other drivers play a worthwhile role in their own image and PR and that bromances = publicity. Carlos and Lando aren't even as close as Lando and Max V but carlando took off and stayed so popular that they'd be idiots to not keep bringing it up and capitalizing on things like Singapore and the driver parades. they are absolutely great friends! all of the easy friendliness you see is legit! but the fake gay flirting and the over the top bantering is solely for the benefit of us fans lol. it's the exact same dynamic with Lando and Daniel. they're very much friends, but they do exactly the same banter and handsy stuff as carlando. it's nothing sinister or calculating.*

so do Carlos and Charles do the same thing for the benefit of fan engagement and their own brands as drivers? oh hell yes they do lol. does it mean they aren't actually friends or that they have no real chemistry or it's all some ice cold arrangement involving Ferrari? alfgaslgflafg NO. if anything the fact that they've stayed so naturally warm and friendly in all their publicity work despite what their own ahem social circles may be stirring up online and in the media is proof that they aren't having to work at their chemistry very hard.

and like... Ferrari of all teams ?? does not need a charlos bromance - or any bromance - for shit. the biggest legacy team in F1 - and an Italian team at that - couldn't give a fuck if their two drivers are friends or what they get up to when they're not in the car as long as it's not flagrantly illegal. they want points, then wins, then championships. the name Ferrari alone is their PR.

and it is totally everyone's right to feel how they want to about drivers but for me personally I just do not engage in stanning or pretending that any F1 driver is pure as driven snow when it comes to forwarding their own career. it's as cutthroat as you can get out there and they've all tested the track limits of what's technically fair or above board in their search for a WDC.

*are McLaren PR and media teams clearly less interested in Oscar than Carlos or Daniel bc Oscar won't ham himself up and is so singularly incapable of faking it around Lando that he often just stands/sits there sometimes and watches Lando with his mouth open? yes. do I hope they realize that we find his dynamic w Lando charming and sweet even without the bromance stuff? yes.

The Divine Horsemen, Hot Rise of an Ice Cream Phoenix, Double LP

Who’d a thunk it? Thirty-four years after the Divine Horsemen’s last release, Handful of Sand (1988) and breakup, Chris D. and Julie Christensen are back with a double LP. Long-time Divine Horsemen Peter Andrus is on guitar, with DJ Bonebrake on drums and Bobby Permanent taking over for the late, great Robyn Jameson.

The Divine Horsemen were a different band from the Flesh Eaters—just as good, but with a mellower dynamic—so those expecting some “Wedding Dice” need to familiarize themselves with the former group’s mid-‘80s catalog. Hot Rise of an Ice Cream Phoenix is excellent. Artists like Chris D. and Julie Christensen aren’t going to reform an old project just to go through the motions. The material here is all outstanding, with some of the original songs dating back to the late 1980s/1990s which explains the double LP, and stacks up against any of the band’s SST records. Peter Andrus’ formidable guitar playing really cuts through.  

The Divine Horsemen would throw a cover in here and there and Hot Rise of an Ice Cream Phoenix is no different. The title track of the record is a Jefferson Airplane song. Chris D., who’s worked extensively in film, finds a deep cut in “Can’t You See?”, apparently a song from Robert Downey, Sr.’s 1970 film Pound.

Hot Rise of an Ice Cream Phoenix is a no-brainer. Pick it up. As mentioned, my copy is a double-LP gatefold on clear, “blood-splattered” vinyl. Your copy may differ. -Ryan Leach (In the Red)

Holiday Flash Fic Challenge: Day 17

Pairing: Chris Demarais x Reader

Prompt: “I got you as my Secret Santa and I thought it’d be cute to tell you how I feel with my gift and now I’m chickening out maybe I can grab my present back without anyone noticing… and everyone noticed.”

Word Count: 658

“Where’d Chris go?” you asked looking over at the empty spot next to you then looked back to Aaron.

Your friend shrugged, “I don’t know. He’s not my boyfriend.”

You shot him a look and threw your napkin at him, “He’s not mine either, asshole.”

Aaron shrugged and leaned back in his seat, “Could have fooled me.”

You rolled your eyes but you knew it was no use arguing. Besides the commotion up where they were passing out Secret Santa gifts had really caught your attention.

“Look, it’s my gift. It’s not done. Just give it back,” you heard Chris whine as he tried to take the present away from Gus who had been giving the job of playing Santa.

“You had a whole month to finish your gift. Go sit down,” Gus instructed.

“I just want to make one change. It’ll be real quick,” Chris begged.

It was clear Gus was not budging. Chris gave a heavy sigh and turned back to the table though when he saw everyone staring including you his eyes went wide and he turned and left the room. Gus made an unhappy noise but he looked down at the label of the package Chris was holding.

You made a move to get up but Gus blocked you. He shoved a gift in your hands and raised his eyebrows, “Hope its a good one.”

You were so curious as to what Chris had been trying to take back but as your hand went into the bag you noticed all eyes on you now.

You stood and excused yourself, taking your gift with you. You slipped into a side hallway before opening your gift in private. It was for you, not everyone else.

You rummaged around until you felt something small and pulled it out, a card fell out as you did so. You’d grab it in a moment but first, you wanted to know what Chris got you. A smile tugged at your lips as you pulled out a Christmas Tree necklace. The tree was a little clunky looking but adorable all the same. You placed the bag down and slipped on the necklace before picking up the card.

You were expecting cartoons or a stupid pun but instead, the card had a beautiful winter scene with some glittering accents. The card simply said ‘Merry Christmas!’ but Chris had added his own note on the blank side of the card:

‘Y/N-

You always talk about how your favorite gifts are the ones people make for you so I made you the little Christmas tree on the necklace. That’s also why it looks so bad. Sorry. I’ve never made jewelry before but that was my best attempt. I know Christmas is your favorite holiday and you love looking at trees. Remember that one time you dragged me to three different malls just to look at all the displays? Anyways, I hope you like it. If not I’m really sorry.

P.S. Like love love. As in I love you and not just like a friend.’

You reread the last line several times over, a rush of emotions going through you. It was just such a Chris thing to through that in so casually that you wanted to laugh but mostly you just felt warm.

So when Chris round the corner a second later he froze as he looked between you and the necklace then down at the card.

He clearly was trying to keep it casual, “So do you like your gift?”

You smiled and touched the necklace, “I love it.” You leaned forward and pressed a quick kiss to his lips, “Like love love it.”

Chris’ eye shone a little bright as he caught onto what you were saying, “You do?”

“I do,” you nodded in confirmation.

His smile took up his whole face as he asked, “So this is okay?” And he leaned in for another kiss.

“So okay.”
