Bad Habits
Warning: mentions of smoking
Please note I do not have clear knowledge in how addictions work, this was just an idea I thought was good enough to explore between Chikara and Cementoss.
This happens BEFORE Chikara and Cementoss are offically together, that’s obvious towards the end of the story but wanted to clarify this at the start to avoid confusion. Also it’s late as of posting this so sorry for any spelling errors I might have missed while proof reading
(My Ectoloader slightly spicy fic is still in the works, so in the meantime have this Chiktoss story to supply you with some MHA content!
All the Higari children have smoked at some point: Higari smoked once when he was in UA mostly due to peer pressure and hasn’t touched one since, next to him Taiho smokes the least. Chikara and Suru smoke occasionally when work gets stressful and Hono smokes to take his mind of things. Kaigo - their dad - used to be a heavy smoker before he married which was a large contributer to his deteriorating health so Magakure doesn’t like smoking in the house)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“This space free?”
Cementoss hummed and turned his head up, he hadn’t heard anyone approaching until the owner of the voice was only a few feet away. Inside the teachers dorms Higari and rest of his siblings had come down to visit, they would be leaving soon for some kind of outing (Cementoss didn’t know what exactly). But he had excused himself earlier for some peace and quite outside, he wasn’t used to the teachers dorms being so noisy, and he’d always preferred the tranquil moments.
Standing outside the doors to the teachers dorms was one of Higari’s many siblings - the red haired and, to his knowledge, older sister of the two he had
“Sure”
She smiled with a nod and took a seat on the steps outside of the teachers dorms while Cementoss turned his attention back to what had been occupying him moments ago.
It was funny how someone with such large, rough hands could be such a gentle gardener.
He remembered Midnight had laughed when she first found out about his hobby, in good humour apparently, as the next day she’d ask Cementoss if he’d help her restore a rose bush back to health. He hadn’t even known about the rose bush until Midnight had shown it too him just to the right of the building.
Cementoss’s hands gently moulded the soil around the new plant, taking great care to make sure he didn’t break the green steam already sprouting up to the sky-
He stopped all of a sudden when a strong smell hit his nose, if he was in the city, it wouldn’t have bothered him as much. But to smell smoke in an area largely made up of trees: didn’t exactly reassure him
He turned his head - the women behind him exhaled a slow drag of smoke, head leaning back as she watched the cloud of smoke disappear above her. She brought the cigarette back to her lips and Cementoss watched as the end glowed brighter as she inhaled
“...You want one?” She asked, easily blowing the smoke through her nostrils before producing a pack of cigarettes from her pocket and shaking them in Cementoss’s direction.
“Uh-“ Cementoss politely shook his hand “No, I don’t smoke”
She shrugged “Aight” she returned the packet to her pocket. Reaching for the cigarette she pinched it between two fingers and tapped the ash from the end away, Cementoss watched it fall into a small pile on the step
“I thought Higari and the rest of your family didn’t approve of smoking?” He didn’t mean to eavesdrop, he had just happened to walk onto the ground floor and past them at the time in which that topic had come into their conversation, and they happened to be talking loud enough for him to hear. He also could have sworn Higari had strong opinions on it too.
The stranger hummed “..Uh, yeah I guess you could say that” They said casually. Cementoss wasn’t sure, but he was certain there was a hint of hesitance, as thought they were shy to admit he was right
Cementoss hummed, eyeing the cigarette in her hand “..You know smoking is bad for you right?”
They paused mid reach to return their cigarette to their lips, she looked to Cementoss who stared back calmly.
The silence was broken when she snickered, leaning forward to rest an arm on her knee
“Hah..getting lectured by a hero” she brought the cigarette to her lips, taking her time to inhale, her body relaxed as she blew out another slow cloud of smoke “Yeah, I know..” she admitted “..We all know” she added as an afterthought
We??
“I didn’t know Higari smoked”
The women let out another snicker, louder this time “Higari?” She repeated, shaking her head “Nah, I mean, not since his third year apparently. He’s not touched one since”
Oh, well this was new information he was hearing
“Then, do your other siblings smoke?” Cementoss wasn’t sure what can of worms he was cracking open, or if he should tell Higari any of this, if he knew at all that his siblings smoked. However the women occupying the steps looked like she was already thinking of her answer, fingers tapping on the step. She was quite, eyes on the floor, debating “...Sometimes” she finally answered
Cementoss tilted his head with an obvious question in his eyes
Her half lidded eyes were trained on the cigarette as though she was in a trance, or maybe it was easier to look at that then make eye contact with her company. But she’d go with the trance bit.
“Sometimes we need to take the edge off, let’s go with that”
Cementoss was no expert, he certainly had no personal experience with cigarettes. But he’d been a hero for a while, and had been in a handful of cases back in his early years concerning addiction. And the reason ‘to take the edge off’ didn’t spawn a sense a ease.
Cementoss’s brows narrowed by an inch
“There are other things you can do to help with that” he said gently, not wanting to fan a flame, or start one “..More healthier ways” he added while eyeing the thin tower of smoke rising from the cigarette.
She rolled the cigarette between her teeth and leaned back, eyes skyward - then, smoke poured from a parting between her lips. She pulled the cigarette away, tapped the ash off the glowing end, then continued to hold it “Yeah, I know” she said, almost robotically, as though reading off a script
“I hear it all the time from Ma”
“I assume she’s against it then?”
“Very” Her eyes widened as she emphasised the word. She could remember the first time her mother caught her smoking, vividly:
It’d been around three months since she took over the car workshop and business had been falling behind, they where scrapping by bills and shopping by the skin of their teeth, but just barely. She’d stolen one of Hono’s packets - he kept a secret box of em under the floorboards in his room, but they all knew about it - she remembered she struggled to light the stupid thing, Hono only had one lighter which he always kept on his person so she had to use matches.
When she finally lit the thing she’d made the mistake of smoking too close to the house, which had been her undoing when her mother rounded the back of the house to call her in for dinner
“I was on house arrest for three days and had to do the dishes for the rest of the week” The punishment hadn’t been the issue, it was the way her mother had snapped at her that had stuck, and that awkward, tense silence that followed between them days later.
Stubbornness ran in their blood, as did a furious temper, Chikara was no saint and had her fair share of grown up tantrums so to speak. Her mother, though possessing as much bark, always had this steady, calm, authoritative presence along with her anger. The type of anger that could be conveyed with a single, sharp glare and shut down an argument at dinner before it even started.
Her mother had yelled at her plenty of times sure, her and her siblings drove her up the walls plenty as kids (sometimes as adults too): Like that time she’d forgotten about the running bath upstairs when she was 10 while her mother was outside gardening and the bathroom flooded the hallway and stairwell. Her mother had a very passionate reaction to that mess.
Or that time as a teenager when she had taken her mother’s credit card to buy herself some sweets - in her defence her mother said she was gonna buy em anyway, so she figured it technically didn’t count as stealing - her mother had not been happy.
And that time she’d crashed her first ever car into a ditch at 18 while taking a short cut, even after her mother warned her about that particular road. She’d nearly broken an arm, her mother didn’t let her touch a steering wheel until the car she crashed had been repaired.
And yet all those scolding's where nothing, compared to how angry her mother had been when she caught her smoking.
“And your other siblings?” Cementoss asked, remembering how she had said we earlier “Does your mother know that they smoke too?”
Thinking a moment she leaned her head back with a hum “Knowing her, probably”
“And Higari?”
Chikara looked as if she’d seen a ghost “No! God no” she rolled her eyes with a groan, clearly Cementoss had unintentionally stepped on a sour spot - if the evident annoyance in her tone and expression meant anything that is. “Higari did mention he disapproved of smoking one time, I didn’t know the dislike was a family thing”
“It’s not--“ She started, then stopped. It looked like she was going to say something, but dropped it and changed her mind at the last minute. “If he knew, I’d never hear the end of it.” She frowned “EVER” Another pause, then her eyes widened, and she snapped her gaze towards Cementoss, so quickly it almost made him jump
“You’re not gonna tell him right?”
There was clear suspicion in her tone as her eyes narrowed at him, from her position up on the steps she was only just able to look down at him, if Cementoss had been standing she would have had to crane her neck just to make eye contact. Cementoss quickly held up his hands to appear and shook his head “It wouldn’t be my place to say”
She scowled at him for three more seconds, before looking away, her scowl - though not focused on him and not as extreme as a few seconds ago - now looked down at her feet as if they where more interesting then the point she had left off on
“Higari can just be a little..” she did a motion with her hand as if struggling to find the words
Cementoss titled his head “Protective?..”
A smile passed over her face “I was gonna go with something like smothering, over bearing, a worry wort..maybe I’ll call him mothering if I’m feeling generous” she had begun to count on the fingers of her spare hand, before she lowered it to rest back down on the step “But, yeah, over protective. That sums it up”
Cementoss could understand that, from a hero’s perspective. Higari was more on the side lines then the lime light when it came to the line of work, but being protective of your family when your work had you face so many threats to your well being came with the territory. The same with being an older brother, though he couldn’t speak from experience with that one
“I’m sure he doesn’t mean to be a bother, Higari is just a very straight forward person.” He knew Hatsume was one person who would confirm that for him “I’m sure his over-protectiveness comes from a place of love and care for you and the rest of his siblings”
She gave him a sideways glance, her scowl lifting ever so slightly. She looked back towards the cigarette and it’s dying trail of smoke, her fingers gripped it a little tighter.
She sighed “Yeah, I know..” she said dejectedly “It’s just..I dunno” she looked lost, her gaze distant, like she was in a different place “Ever since he came to UA things at home just got so...different?” She sounded as sure as she looked, but Cementoss said nothing, sensing she had more to say
“After the whole drama with dad and his passing, when Higari came here it...I dunno it was like, Mum felt like she was loosing someone else?” She had began to gesture with her hands, at first only slightly, now they where becoming more obvious as the emotional gates opened more and more “And then Hono fell off the tracks, Ma barely had it together, and no one knew what the hell to do with the family business!”
“Car repairs isn’t it?” Cementoss remembered Higari mentioned it in passing conversation on a separate occasion
She nodded “Those first few months getting the business sorted, putting dads stuff away in storage or chucking it to the dump, taking care of Suru it was all so...much!” She almost dropped her cigarette with how aggressively she had thrown her arms out “And Ma wasn’t in any state to be our therapist, she barely had herself together trying to adjust to everything! And our Uncle he-...He just didn’t-“ she had that face again, a face that suggested she was struggling to find the right words, Cementoss noticed how her nose scrunched up
“Well, he wasn’t as good at being an Uncle back then, he had his hands full with Hono and..well—” Chikara trailed off, breathing laboured through her nose...then she realised how much she had said, how many wounds she had just exposed to this guy.
To her brothers work colleague who she barely knew
The embarrassment exploded in her chest just as much as it did her face, wishing for the universe to have mercy upon her and have a stray meteor enter the atmosphere and obliterate her on the spot. A quick and painless death.
“God I-“ she rubbed a hand over her face, hanging her head to avoiding looking at the hero across from her. She couldn’t believe she said all that! “Sorry, that got deep for no reason..”
Cementoss had the same expression as before: calm, unbothered and - to Chikara’s despair - unreadable. “It’s no bother” She groaned, god just kill her now. Let the ground swallow her. Higari spoke very little of his parents, mostly his siblings when he was asked about his family. Higari had mentioned his mother a few times, but Cementoss had always guessed the father had never been in the picture as Higari never brought him up, and Cementoss didn’t want to be rude by asking when, really, it wasn’t his business to begin with.
Seemed as though there was more history to Higari’s family then Cementoss had originally thought
“It seems like you and your family have all gone through some hard times, finding ways to cope with that emotional and mental turmoil is human nature. I didn’t mean to make you feel ashamed by it”
Shyly, which was an emotion that looked odd on the person who presented herself as nothing but laid back and casual, his company looked up from their hand and towards him
“..You didnt..” she mumbled into her palm, just loud enough for him to hear “Honestly, I don’t even like smoking that much. I know what it does to you and I try not to do it often. There’s just..well, ain’t as much help available in the country then there is here” The end of her cigarette had gone out, but she wasn’t paying attention to it “When you live in a small town with little villain attacks you don’t get all the fancy shmancy help stuff you get in the city, best we got down there is a basic doc and vet”
A pause
“Guess that comes with being a hero, preaching about the goodness of ones health and all..”
She let out a weak laugh to try and brighten her mood, it worked as well as she hoped “...Hah, wow, this is awkward” she said, mostly to herself, before looking to Cementoss “Your school faculty members sister venting to a hero who she doesn’t even know the name of.”
Another weak laugh and a failed attempt to ease her discomfort “Least I can say my introduction is gonna make an impression”
Here did Cementoss let out a small huff of humour “You could say that, but not the worst impression..and it’s Cementoss by the way”
“Hm?” She cocked a brow
“My name is Cementoss” he repeated “If you want to get technical: Cementoss is my hero name, most of the others here refer to me by that”
She smiled - Cementoss decided he liked the look on her - “Pleasure to have you in my presence” she extended a hand towards him “Not every day someone lets you talk about your messy family problems on the first introduction”
Cementoss smiled, his hand gently clasping around hers, his giant hands practically engulfed her tiny ones. “I’m gonna go on a bet and say your quirk has something to do with cement?” Cementoss hummed, mocking thought, before he nodded “You’d be correct” Her smile widened, happy to find out she had indeed been correct “So what’s my prize?”
Cementoss blinked, letting go of her hand “Prize?”
She pointed to him “You’re a teacher right? Ain’t teachers supposed to give rewards for correct answers?” She pressed a hand to her chest, one leg resting over the other “I’d be partial to a gold star sticker if you have any”
Cementoss lifted a finger “Technically this isn’t a class and you’re not a pupil Chi”
She stuck her tongue out at him “Poo, you’re no fun—..” she blinked “What did you call me?” Her expression was a mix between confusion and surprise, maybe she hadn’t heard him correctly? Cementoss lowered his hand “I thought I heard Higari refer to you as Chi when you where talking earlier”
The women was quite, then, let out a laugh
Cementoss looked off to the side, unsure of what to do or if she was laughing at him, or more likely if she was laughing at something he had said. Had he assumed incorrectly?
“Sorry!” She waved her hand at him when she noticed how muddled he looked “I didn’t mean to laugh, it’s just that Chi is my nickname” she smiled down at him again “My actual name is Chikara”
“..Oh..” Cementoss felt his cheeks grow hot, and Chikara, smirked. He stiffened, eyes widening as she resisted the urge to giggle as she covered her mouth with the back of her hand “I-..Sorry” Cementoss mumbled “I didn’t realise..”
“Hey, no sweat” Chikara brushed him off combined with a bat of her hand, but even she couldn’t deny that a flustered Cementoss was a very entertaining thing “Out of the nicknames you coulda called me, Chi is certainly one of the ones I like the most. Like-“ she sat up on the step, moving a bit closer to him “-Higari and the rest sometimes call me stuff like snot face”
Cementoss was going to say he didn’t think the usually mind-his-own-business Higari was capable of giving someone an insulting nickname, then he remembered that one time the teachers had started a swear jar and Higari had it full by the end of the second week.
So, yeah, that did sound like something he would do
“I call him short stack”
Curse him: he let out a snicker. Higari was rather small
“Appropriate” he replied “...You know, the first time I met Higari I accidentally mistook him for a student”
“What!” Chikara’s grin grew impossibly wider “Haha! No way! God-“ she shook her head, the very image of that scenario pure gold! “-I wish I coulda been there to see that!” She whirled her head back to him, curiosity lacing every word “What did he do?”
“Not much” Cementoss replied honestly “He told me it was fine after I apologised-“ profusely apologised “-and we both went on with our day”
Chikara’s smile fell into a pout “Boring” she crossed her arms over her chest “You could have exaggerated the story a lil’ bit greenie”
“...Greenie?” Cementoss echoed back quietly
As if it was obvious, Chikara pointed down to the small patch of the flower bed Cementoss had previously been tending to before she had appeared. Cementoss followed her pointed finger “You’re a gardener, gardeners have green thumbs: Greenie” she explained, one side of her lip curled up in a half smile
The last time someone gave Cementoss a nickname must have been in his second year during school.
“You could always call me by my actual name” he suggested, not apposed to the nickname, it just wasn’t something he was used too.
“Your hero name? Or your real name?”
“Cementoss. Or Ken - my real name”
“Ken..” Chikara repeated, testing how the name sounded. She hummed, looking skyward. She repeated his name again and her eyes squinted in thought “...Nah” she shrugged “My nicknames better Greenie” Cementoss rolled his eyes, guess Greenie was something he was going to have to get used too. Though it wasn’t the worst thing he had been called since high school - he’d been given plenty of names then, names which he preferred to not think back on
“You plant a lot?” Chikara asked, looking down to the freshly tended piece of flower bed Cementoss was sitting besides
Cementoss looked to the sapling he had just planted, then to the other three he had done earlier that day “Sometimes, when I have time between classes” truly work at UA and hero work didn’t leave him a great deal of free time for himself, but he managed with what little he had. “UA doesn’t have a proper garden, so I tend to the plants in and around the teachers dorms. It gives me something to do”
“You know, Higari used to be a bit of a plant nutt before he came to UA. According to Tai, he used to name them”
“Tai is one of your other brothers?” Cementoss asked
“My twin” Chikara answered
“Naming plants sounds like Higari” Cementoss finished patting down the soil around the freshly planted saplings, then stood. Brushing the dirt off from his knees he turned towards the steps of the teachers dorms, Chikara was now having to crane her neck slightly to make eye contact with him “...I believe Ectoplasm mentioned he caught Higari talking to their houseplants one time”
Cementoss couldn’t help but peak an eye open at her to catch her reaction: which was her leaping to her feet faster then a jack rabbit with her eyes as wide as plates “Seriously!” She cheered, barely containing her laughter, before bolting back into the dorms. Cementoss went to follow, before Chikara’s head suddenly stuck back out “You comin’ with?”
Cementoss blinked “Do you want me to?”
“Sure” Chikara said “...I also want to ensure I have the protection of a hero incase Higari tries to kill me, which he probably will” Chikara stuffed the now dead cigarette bud into her pocket, she’d find a bin for a later, before practically skipping back into the building
“Keep up Greenie!”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Chikara stared down at the quaint little flower pot and the teenie little sprout poking up from the soil. It looked relatively new, probably just planted a few days ago - maybe even today
She titled her head “A..plant?” She asked
Cementoss nodded “Yes”
“...Why?” Chikara asked, looking up to him - literally - she underestimated how tall he would be standing. It’s not like she was ungrateful for any gifts, but she hadn’t been expecting a plant when she and the rest of her siblings where about to leave. Her or the rest of her siblings had brought any gifts when they came down - none that she knew of anyway - so this was certainly a surprise
“Is this to do with the nickname I gave you? You tryna get back at me somehow?”
“It’s nothing to do with that” Cementoss shook his head as he cleared her suspicions on that note “I remember yesterday how..” Cementoss looked around, checking no one else was around, before continuing “You said you didn’t like smoking, I thought perhaps a plant might help”
Chikara blinked, looked at the plant, then Cementoss, then back again “You..want me to try gardening instead of smoking?”
Cementoss nodded
Chikara blinked, then, looked back down to the plant: just a plain old plant pot. The tiny green stalk just barely breaching the top of the soil, which was still damp from its morning watering. Chikara realised that Cementoss was probably waiting for her to take it, so she slowly raised her hands till they came to grasp the plant pot.
“What kind of plant is it?” She asked while turning the pot carefully in her hands as if searching for some kind of label. Cementoss shrugged and - though Chikara could only guess with that oddly shaped mouth of his - smiled “I can’t quite recall” Chikara rose a brow up at him “Must have slipped my mind - you’ll have to tell me when it grows”
Chikara blinked again and was quite for a few seconds, before rolling her eyes and huffing “Oh, I see” she moved the pot to her side, holding it in her right hand as she pointed to him with her left “You’re not gonna tell me so that I’ll have to take care of it to find out” sneaky, she thought in the back of her head, and pretty clever - respect
“Perhaps” Cementoss said with an innocent shrug “It would be nice to know what it grows into, as a fan of gardening myself of course”
“Hm” Chikara’s lip quirked into a smile, one brow cocked “Right” she said with a slow nod
“...Wait-“ Chikiara’s smile fell, so suddenly that Cementoss grew worried for a second, before she asked “How am I supposed to tell you what it grows into if I don’t have any way to contact you?”
Ah..he hadn’t thought of that
The UA dorms had a phone on the ground floor that was mostly used to talk with parents or other staff in the building, incase of emergencies, thankfully they hadn’t yet used it for the latter reason - in any case giving her the number for that phone probably wasn’t allowed, since it was meant to be a phone strictly for the staff and used only for work related purposes. Cementoss did have a phone, but with his fat fingers typing a number was beyond the realm of possibility - his phone often had to be opened and used with voice recognition - but that aside he gave out his number so rarely he honestly couldn’t remember it off the top of his head.
He hummed
“Well, you could give me your number” He said without really thinking. Then his brain kicked in and he realised what he asked
Chikara blinked wide eyes up at him as Cementoss’s cheeks got hot
“I-“ he waved a hand apologetically “Of course you don’t have to if you’re uncomfortable! I’d understand. I can always ask Higari to keep me updated-“
Chikara dug around in her pocket and produced a marker “You got some paper?” She asked
Cementoss blinked at her...then quickly reached into his pocket and pulled out a small notebook. With Chikara holding the plant in one hand he offered to hold the notebook for her as Chikara scrawled her number down onto the page “Ya know, it’s often traditional for a gentleman to wine and dine a lady before askin’ for her number” Chikara teased, offering him a smirk and a honest to god wink as she pulled the marker away “But, just this once, I’ll let it slide~”
Cementoss’s face felt hotter, and he prayed it wasn’t obvious. Chikara’s smirk got wider, oh, it was obvious wasn’t it?
“I-“ Cementoss cleared his throat, pulling the notebook shyly to his chest “Thank you..”
“No problem” Chikara turned to walk towards the doors of UA teachers dorms where the rest of her siblings where waiting - looked like Taiho was trying to split up a quarrel between Higari and Hono, shocker. “See ya round!” She said over her shoulder, waving a little before trotting to catch up with her family outside
Cementoss watched from the hallway as Chikara approached Higari from behind and smacked his hair into his face, prompting Higari to say something at her that made her chuckle.
Looking down at his notebook, Cementoss stared down at the line of digits written in marker. When was the last time he’d asked for a women’s number? Anyone’s number period! After reading the line of numbers over three times, his eyes where suddenly drawn to a small note scribbled in the bottom right hand corner of the page. The writing was a bit messy, obviously written quickly, so he had to bring it closer to his face to read it clearly
‘How bold of you Greenie, Chikara xxx’
His face got hotter again

Can I have some facts on Hoshi’s little sister?? I love these little block kiddos
Sure you can!! I've picked out a name for her which I wanna reveal in like a mini comic/doodle dump of her but here are some small facts with her
-I mentioned this on her ref but she doesn't talk a lot, pretty quite kid. She's rarely shy but she just doesn't really feel the need to talk to people. If it wasn't for the fact she made noise while crying as a baby Chikara and Cementoss probably would have thought she was mute. The two where a little concerned in the beginning since they where concerned she'd have issues fitting in at school, she's sometimes called names in class which also makes her hesitant about school. She can be pretty feisty and has shoved other kids when they've called her names, Cementoss and Chikara are aware of the situation at school so they keep in contact with her teachers a lot to make sure she's doing okay
-Her favourite Auntie is Midnight, kind of looks up to her. She thinks Midnight is really pretty and is one of the few people she'll actually talk with outside her parents and brother. Since she's sort of block shaped like Cementoss she sometimes doesn't feel as pretty as other girls so she likes it when Midnight babysits her and they get to do fun girly things. Midnight in turn is quite dotting on Cementoss and Chikara's daughter...she's less fond when she comes inside the house to excitedly show her the slugs she found in the garden (Hoshi and his sister are both bug fans)
-She's a pretty good eater and eats a lot of foods, rarely fussy, but she'll refuse any kind of biscuit unless it's chocolate or chocolate chip. Hoshi gave her half of his raisin biscuit once when she was younger and she promptly chucked it on the floor in a teenie toddler rage when it didn't taste like chocolate
-She has a Pro Hero Deku toy. I think it'd be cute that Hoshi and his sister grew up being really big Deku fans, like how Cementoss was a fan of All Might since he was a kid. The toy used to be Hoshi's when he was a kid and then when he got a bit older it was given to his sister - though Hoshi is still a big Deku fan. Hoshi's sis is VERY attached to that toy and has thrown a fit more then once when her parents had to pry it away from her to wash it
-She gets along well with Higari and Ectoplasm but didn't like Riley or Haiya at first. Ectoplasm and Higari, being teachers and - in Higari's case - growing up with younger siblings himself, are very chill and patient with her, they don't force her to have conversations if she just doesn't feel like talking and Uncle Higari especially spoils her a lot, cuz that's what Uncles are supposed to do to their nieces. I've had a scenario in my head where one day Higari gives her an entire bag of chocolate chips cuz they didn't have any chocolate chip biscuits and she later went on to have a mad sugar rush and stay up super late, que an unimpressed phone call from Chikara and Cementoss. Haiya and Riley however are loud kids, louder then Hoshi, it took a while for her to warm up to them
-She's the type of kid to sleep in her own bed, then crawl into her parents bed in the middle of the night. If you want an example scenario of this just look up the Bluey episode Sleepytime on Youtube and that first interaction between Bluey and Chilli in the beginning is something she'd do

My brain literally just made the comparison of Cementoss, Hoshi and his still unnamed little sister to tetris blocks
And now I can’t get the mental image out of my head that Chikara will randomly place baby Hoshi/their baby daughter ontop of Cementoss’s head when he’s sitting down and she just giggles while saying “tetris” and Cementoss sighs and is like “I chose this, I chose to marry this women”

I think I wanna do like a follow up story to Found Family, a MHA christmas story I wrote last year, here’s the link to it if anyone wants to give it a read! - https://palettepainter.tumblr.com/post/671499685416009728/found-family#notes
I don’t have a solid script down, but I’ve had one or two ideas, my favourite being this: Hatsume is once again spending Christmas with Higari and Ectoplasm (this story takes place when Hatsume is still attending UA, so Riley and Haiya aren’t included) and she wants to give them both the perfect gift for Christmas, alas Hatsume discovers a terrible truth: she’s ass at gift giving. She spends the rest of the day going about trying to discover what the perfect gift to them would be, she asks Shinsou and Eri (spending Christmas with Hizashi and Aizawa) but in the end, finds some unexpected help from Jiro (I want these two to interact, I think it’d be sweet)
Again I’m still not 100% sure cuz this is just a loose idea, the image isn’t fully clear in my head, so if you guys have any alternate suggestions let me know! I wanna try and get back into MHA stuff! (I do have one Chiktoss story that will probably be posted in the new year, wanna get some art done for it)
Aside from a Christmas-y story here are some other story ideas I’ve had that I eventually wanna write:
-Jirou goes to the support course to get some of her hero gear repaired while she’s taking her workstudy. As usual, Hatsume ends up blowing something up, but this time she ends up hurt, quick badly. Jiro is the only one around to help (maybe an origin story for how they become friends??)
-Riley is notorious for her sweet tooth, but even at the risk of her parents scolding she’s never stopped her attempts at trying to sneak a bite of something sweet before tea. Higari warns her not to eat too many or she’ll get a tummy ache, Riley doesn’t listen to his warnings and faces the consequences of her actions: a bad tummy ache
-Higari is often the flirtier one in the relationship. Ectoplasm does flirt, but it’s always compliments or dorky flirts, rarely anything dirty. One day Ecto decides to play a game on Higari, in which he flirts with Higari when no one else is looking and gets him quite flustered. But when Higari tries to tell the others what’s happening, they of course don’t believe him (this one might be more mature then the others)

I mentioned this idea in a brief Food for Thought post aaaand I got carried away and made a design
Drawing Cementoss is a lot of fun so drawing Hoshi and his new unnamed sister was/is also a lot of fun! Also this was a way for me to show off Hoshi’s teen design, not a lot different from his kiddo design cept he’s taller
Name suggestions are welcome as I have no clue what to call her! (Chikara probably wanted to name her something dump like turnip/ankle-biter, Chikara isn’t good with coming up with names)

Food for thought 29 (mha)
So this was an idea I had back when I was designing Hoshi that I ended up scrapping it, but recently I’ve been thinking about it again and I’m veeeery tempted to make it cannon
Hoshi with a baby sister
I have no idea why Ive suddenly started thinking about this idea again, but I thought it was sweet and I wanna talk about it since I might drawn out a baby sister design for Hoshi.
I imagine Hoshi to be the type of kid to just innocently say to his parents outright he wants a baby sibling (Chikaras and Cementoss’s brains calmly malfunction as they processed what their son said). Hed be like “Mum, Dad: I’ve decided I want a baby brother” que Chikara laughing awkwardly and managing to distract Hoshi with cartoons, temporarily at least. But Hoshi would continue to bring it up and Chikara and Cementoss would find it harder and harder to distract their son from the topic. Eventually when Higari is babysitting Hoshi for the evening Chikara and Cementoss finally have a chance to talk to over, having a second kid didn’t seem so bad, and Hoshi did seem like he genuinely wanted a sibling
Hoshi was ecstatic when he learnt he was going to be getting a baby sibling (he wanted a baby brother) and Riley was the same to learn she was getting a new cousin, cue this conversation:
Hoshi: Dad? Cementoss: Yeah? Hoshi: How does the baby get IN the ladies belly? Cementoss: *blinks*...*abruptly stands* OKAY WHO WANTS TO GO TO THE PARK-
Chikara was just as grumpy and moody through the second pregnancy period and was just as relieved when it was all over, probably slept for the next 17 hours. When Hoshi first saw his baby sister he started crying and Cementoss was worried for three seconds, till Hoshi said he loved her so much
Some notes on Hoshi’s baby sister who may or may not become cannon:
-Smol but violent, got Chikara’s spunk but got her dads resting calm face
-Likes bandannas
-Prolly goes on to make pottery when she’s older
-Doesn’t talk much but she’s not shy, only really speaks with her parents and big brother
-I’m not sure what her quirk would be but here are two ideas. Hardening, same as Kirishima she’d have the ability to harden her skin, expect instead of like rock she can harden it like cement.
Mineral spears, by touching the ground she can use the minerals in the earth or soil to generate spikes, these can be in a range of sizes and sharpness
-Big fan of Pro Hero Deku
-Get’s along well with all her cousins but is closest to Terra (Houndog x Shizen)

In the morning Cementoss will wake up with Hoshi’s foot in his face and Chikara half hanging out of the bed like a ragdoll
Morning cuddles are rare as Chikara is a starfish sleeper and is often sleeping in weird positions or is half sprawled over Cementoss, but sometimes, on the rare occasion, Chikara and Hoshi will be sleeping peacfully and they all have a lazy morning snuggle
Super proud of the lighting on this one!
DO NOT REPOST/EDIT/COPY/TRACE MY ART OR OC’S!!!

headcanon: when hoshi was a baby, cementoss was able to hold him in his hands like a basket. whenever chikara asked for hoshi, cementoss would either hold him out like a kitty carefully or just offer him with open hands.

Big Brother
Mother instincts may have hit Chikara hard, but that doesn’t mean she didn’t need a littel reassurance every now and then
(aka - please accept this small story of Higari comforting a tired Chikara)
///////////////////
“Aw, come on..please, go to sleep..”
The UA teachers' dorms were mostly quiet, save for the tired, soft voice of an exhausted mother. In her arms, Chikara gently rocked her son. He had long tuckered himself out and his wails had turned to tiny sniffly whimpers. His eyelids would slowly drop and almost close, before he’d jerk them back open again.
“Twinkle twinkle little star, it’s time for you to sleep already..” Chikara watched hopefully as Hoshi’s eyes almost closed, before he let out a tiny sneeze and they snapped back open. Chakra sighed
“Pleease..” She resorted to begging as she looked down into Hoshi’s watery eyes “Mummy needs sleep too ya know..” In response, Hoshi gurgled and stuffed a lock of his mothers hair into his mouth to chew on. Chikara easily fished it out and tucked it behind her ear, only for Hoshi to whine louder
Chikara sighed again
Knock Knock
She wouldn’t have heard if the room wasn’t so quite, but someone had knocked at the door. Who could that be?? Couldn’t be Ken, he wasn’t due back till tomorrow, Chikara slowly placed Hoshi down into his crib and walked to the door, barely stifling a yawn as she cracked it open to greet the visitor
Said visitor blinked at her tired state “Wow..You look like shit” Higari deadpanned
Chikara gave a strained smile “How kind of you to notice” Chikara pushed the door open wider, allowing light from her still lit dorm to flood into the hallway “What do you want?” she whispered
Higari rocked on his heels and shrugged “Decided I wanted to take a leisurely stroll..”
At that moment, from within the dorm, Hoshi began to cry again. Chikara visibly seemed to sink down as her head flopped back with a tired groan “And also see how you’re holdin’ up'' Higari finished
Chikara turned back into the home with Higari following behind and closing the door. He followed Chikara, who he found in the bedroom by the crib. “No matter what I do he won’t sleep..” Chikara explained “I’ve tried everything: rocking him, singing to him, seeing if he’s hungry. Nothing” Hoshi whined louder when Chikara’s arms became still, Chikara blinked, her arms resuming their rocking motion which she hadn’t realised had stopped “At this point I think he’s crying just to make noise”
Higari hummed “Maybe” he moved towards the bed and sat down, patting the space next to him “Come on, you look like you need a seat more than me” Chikara complied, not having the strength to argue or bargain
“You don’t have to come and check on me you know” Chikara muttered, peering down to her brother “I’m capable of handling things myself” Higari nodded “Yeah” he said “..But you sure don’t look like it”
Chikara scowled, frowning deeply “You said yourself that Riley is heavy sleeper, you don’t get to comment on this”
Once again, Higari nodded “True, she is” for a moment Chikara thought she had won the battle, only for Higari to turn round to her again and say “But as your big brother, I do get to comment on it”
“Oh here we go again..” Chikara pinched the skin between her eyes
“Chikara-” Higari started, Chikara could already imagine what he was going to say next: so she beat him to the punch. “Ugh, Higari you put on this stuck record everytime! Ain’t it just about worn out by now?”
Higari cocked his brow but didn’t move “Chikara-”
“I get it, alright! “You should make sure you’re getting enough rest”,“Don’t forget to check the bath temperature before giving Hoshi a bath”, “The more tired you are the less likely you’ll get things done” blah blah blah” She badly mimicked her brothers voice, leading to Higari further raising him brow at her immaturity. “Chikara-”
Chikara pointed a finger at him “Look just because you and Ecto have this parenting thing down already doesn’t mean I need your help, okay?” while Chikara continued, Hoshi had managed to grab at a lock of his mothers hair, instantly bringing it to his mouth to nom on “I can do this parenting thing just as - if not BETTER - than you! I can do this SO easily!”
Higari once again, didn’t move under his sisters annoying glare “Hm..” he unhurriedly pointing a finger towards Hoshi “He’s chewin’ your hair again”
Chikara blinked, muttering a confused ‘Huh?’ under her breath. “Wha-Hoshi!” Chikara tried to pry the lock of hair away from him, only this time Hoshi tucked back. Chikara flinched, biting her lip as Hoshi threatened to yank her hair out by it’s roots. “Ow!-” she squeaked, trying and failing again to get Hoshi’s grabby little hands to release her
Higari watched, only slightly amused at her suffering with his head in his hand
After two minutes of failing, Chikara inhaled “...Can you uh..give me a hand?” she asked shyly, sounding ashamed.
Easily, Higari reached over and lightly tapped the end of his finger on Hoshi’s nose. The tiny tots eyes went cross eyed, utterly perplexed, with his attention diverted Higari swiftly pulled the lock of hair from his mouth, Chikara was quick to brush it over her shoulder out of Hoshi’s reach
“...Thanks”
“No problem” Higari said paired with a shrug
A rare moment of silence passed over them, the only noise being the distant ticking off the clock from the hallway. “Here, lemme hold him for a bit” Higari said, holding his arms out towards Hoshi. Chikara glanced down to him and then Higari, before handing him over
With her arms free Chikara sighed and flopped her head forward, dragging her hands through her hair
“..You know I wasn’t gonna say any of those things” Higari said, letting Hoshi chew on the end of his finger. Chikara peered at him through the corner of her eye “What were you gonna say then?..” she asked, only sounding mildly sarcastic
“I was just gonna say you should take a shower, you’re startin’ to smell” Higari said, honest as always
Chikara instantly snapped her head up to him with a glare that could crack rock. Higari snickered “Oh you fu-”
“Ah ah ah” Higari mockingly waved his finger and then gestured to Hoshi “We have a child present”
Chikara looked between the two, looking to be struggling to think of a curt reply. Higari’s smug grin widened in the face of her defeat, more so when Hoshi innocently gurgled something incoherent and waved a hand towards Chikara.
“..You did that on purpose” Chikara narrowed her eyes, managing to swallow her urge to argue back. At her funny expression Hoshi giggled, Chikara blinked down at him “Don’t take HIS side!” Chikara said while throwing a hand out to Higari
Chikara let out a long, loud groan, burying her face in her hands “Did you come here to comfort me or annoy me?”
“Both” Higari replied rather quickly “..But mostly to comfort” his smug look turned soft and caring, something that only a select few close to him got to see. Through the gaps in her fingers Chikara looked at him “You really don’t have to do all this by yourself you know..” Higari started “Me and Ecto are just down the hall”
“And keep you away from sleep too?” At that very moment, Chikara let yawn “I can’t do that..plus you guys have jobs, you’re teachers”
“That’s true” a pause “..But I’m also your brother”
Chikara lowered her hands from her face to give Higari a raised brow “You gonna go all mushy on me now?”
“Chikara”
...Chikara sighed “Sorry...sorry” she shook her head, rubbing shyly at her neck “I’m just...” she hesitated, searching for the right words “I’m not good at this..” she finished “Not good like Ken or you and Ecto!” she sighed again “He’s nearly one and I still can’t get him down for a nap!”
“Chikara you’re brand new at this” Higari stated the obvious “Of course you’re still gonna be figurin’ things out”
“You got it so easily though!” Chikara turned towards Higari and gestured to Hoshi, whom in the past five minutes of Higari holding him had already seemed to calm down “How did you learn all of this??”
Higari looked off at the opposite wall to collect his thoughts “...Well-” he shrugged “I just..learnt”
Chikara gave him a look, showing how much she believed him “I’m serious!” Higari defended, sensing Chikara’s distaste over how simply he had put it. “Sure I was old enough to help Mum and Dad with you and Taiho when you were little, but with your own kids it’s..” Higari made a rolling gesture with his wrist “..Different”
“Different how?” Chikara asked with an eyeroll, still not believing him. Before speaking Higari took in Chikara’s appearance: her hair was matted and greasy from the obvious lack of showering, the shirt she was wearing was wrinkled and had a small stain by the collar, and the joggers she was wearing he had seen her wear two days prior. “Because each kid is different”
Before Chikara could give him a sarcastic reply, Higari held up his hand “Let me finish” he said sternly. Chikara narrowed her eyes before sighing, gesturing for him to continue “..Each kid is different. Taiho when he was little liked to go splashin’ in puddles, you liked to go jumpin’ in the mud”
“..What does puddles and mud have to do with-”
“Work with me here” Higari interrupted her “What I’m sayin’ is that you can have all the experience in the world caring for kids, but there’s no book or step by step guide that prepares you for real parenting!” Higari shrugged “So Cementoss is better at putin’ Hoshi to bed, so what? You're the one that’s better at gettin’ him to eat his food”
Chikara averted her gaze, seeming far more interested in the floor. “It’s just...” Chikara’s hands rested on her knees, nails picking at the fabric “I need to be able to do this by myself..” Chikara’s fingers gripped at her joggers, still not meeting Higari’s gaze, which she could tell was on her. “Sure Ken went away for just the weekend, but what if he’s gone for longer?? What if he’s called for some hero mission or somethin’?? W-What if you’re called for the same mission and you’re both gone!” Chikara’s shoulders tensed, her eyes shiny as her voice began to waver “I need to be able to do this by myself! I can’t just just rely on you or Ken being there all the time for me! I-If I can’t learn how to do this by myself then- then-”
Higari’s hand on her shoulder made her stop “Hey”
...Chikara sighed, rubbing tiredly at her face, eyes closed yet clearly watery with how she tried to discreetly wipe them without Higari noticing “Calm down and take a breath..” Higari reassured, hand now rubbing Chikara’s back as she did so, inhaling and exhaling through her nose “...Sorry...” she murmured barely above a whisper
“For what? Worrying?” Higari tilted his head “You know it’s normal for people to do that right?” he asked, trying to crack some humour. When Chikara didn’t laugh, Higari turned serious again “..Look Chi, I know how stressful parenting is - it ain’t easy for anybody! So you ain’t got all the tricks figure out yet, big deal”
“It IS a big deal-”
“-But that's why you learn” Higari finished, not leaving Chikara room to argue “The way I see it: you’ve been busting your ass this weekend to take care of your kid by yourself for pretty much the first time since he was born. The kid got funny with you when you tried to put him down for a nap, what baby hasn’t done that?? Even Riley’s been funny with naptime once or twice.”
Finally, Chikara looked up to Higari, eyes half lidded and glossy from tired tears “Stop beating yourself up over this, for what it’s worth I think you’re doing a great job with this whole parenting thing! Hoshi’s like a lil koala bear with you - if that doesn’t prove you’re doing a good job I don’t know what will”
Chikara and Higari sat in silence, Chikara processing her brother's advice, Higari giving her the silence she needed to calm down. Chikara sniffled, rubbing her nose on her sleeve and turning away slightly from Higari to collect herself, she felt silly crying. She’d always been so sure in what she was doing or had done, this was all so new to her, it was..scary
She swallowed “Higari-”
“Shhh” Higari pressed his finger on Chikara’s lips “He’s asleep”
Chikara looked down to Hoshi, who had lost the battle against sleep. He was happily curled in a perfect ball, hands tucked to his face and twitching every so often as he dreamed
Chikara sighed “Lil stubborn bugger..”
“I can see where he gets it from” Higari said, his trademark grin pulling at his face “The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree it seems”
“Har har”
Carefully Higari gently handed Hoshi back to Chikara, he hardly stirred thank goodness. Chikara stood and walked towards his crib, slowly lowering him down and tucking the blanket lightly over him - only then did Chikara sigh and wipe at her forehead “Finally..”
“Bet you’re glad he’s asleep huh?” Higari quietly slid off the bed as Chikara turned round “Now I think it’s time YOU get some rest” he said, jabbing a finger to Chikara and then to the bed. Chikara loved her sleep enough as it was, so when she was at last given the chance to rest she didn’t need to be told twice
Walking the small space between the crib and the bed felt like a chore as her feet dragged along the carpeted floor. With a dramatic flop she fell face first sideways onto the bed, her body instantly curling up into the comfort of the blankets. Higari rose his brow and held back the urge to laugh “Don’t you wanna get under the covers?” he asked
“This is fine..” Chikara mumbled, sounding in pure bliss as she snuggled more into the blankets
“You’ll probably be warmer and comfier if you slept the right way ya know...”
“Mhm, interestin’...” Chikara drawled, her eyelids heavy as her breathing slowed, her blinks drowsy as she was pulled closer and closer to sleep. Higari didn’t move until her eyelids closed and he was certain she was asleep.
“Idiot” he chuckled, tip-toeing to the bedside lamp and carefully switching it off, Chikara’s soft snores already reaching his ears. Vaguely, if Higari listened closely, he could hear her muttering nonsense in her sleep
“Mngh...rice...needs rice...” Obviously she was dreaming about food
“Snrck-” Higari covered his mouth and quickly glanced to the baby crib, Hoshi had moved a little but didn't seem to be awake. Chikara would have his head if he dared to wake him now.
Soundlessly Higari left the room, carefully pulling the door up on his way out. He’d spare Chikara the teasing this time around, she needed a good rest after all
//BONUS//
Cementoss heaved a sigh as he closed the door to his apartment, that mission had been more tiring then he thought it would be. All well, at least he was home now. He naturally felt himself smile as he walked further into the home, happy to be somewhere familiar
Upon walking in further however he noticed how it was oddly quiet, usually Chikara would hear the door close and come to investigate who it was, that or Hoshi would start gurgling and cooing.
He rose a brow “Chikara?” no answer, he hummed again. Perhaps she was sleeping? Chikara was quite a heavy sleeper
Making his way to the bedroom it was obvious that Chikara was clearly sleeping, evident in the snoring he heard as he got closer and closer to the door. Peeking his head inside, while being cautious to not startle her awake, Cementoss stepped in- and then blinked
“...Higari, what are you doing?”
Higari eyed the black market he was using the scrawl over Chikara’s face and then Cementoss “...Nothing”
Cementoss hummed. He slowly looked over towards the baby crib, noting how it was emtpy “..Where is Hoshi?”
“With Ecto and Riley..”
“Ah..”
Silence
“...I don’t think she’s going to be very pleased with you” Cementoss said, looking down to his still sleeping wife, who’s forehead and cheeks had been vandalized with the market Higari held. Higari looked between the marker and his sisters face “Probably not...”
Higari leaned back up and pulled the marker away “Which is why-” he clicked the lid back atop his pen and made to slide off the bed to flee the scene of the crime “-I shall leave you to greet her when she wakes up. Animals are less likely to kill their mates god speed”
Cementoss narrowed his eyes, mouth opening and closing “...Did you just compare Chikara to an animal-”
“Mngh..” Chikara groggily sat up and yawned, like a bear waking from winter. She sat up, stretching her arms up high above her head and cracking her back. Higari froze, having no time to run or even think of hiding when Chikara lazily turned her head in their direction
“Hm?..Oh- OH! Ken! Welcome back! How long have you been here?”
“I just...got back” Cementoss said, eyes occasionally flicking down to Higari in worry
“...Why are you glancing like that- What? Higari what are you doin’ here?”
“Uuuhhhh….” Higari tried and failed to think of a believing excuse
Chikara, still confused on what was going on, and not getting answers from either of them, started to glance around the room in search for a clue on what could be wrong - and that was when she happened to glance into the bathroom and into the mirror above the sink. She blinked...unhurriedly, she glanced down to her brother, who was holding the crime weapon in hand.
Higari noticed her looking and quickly pocketed the pen away
Chikara inhaled….then smiled calmly “Cementoss, is Hoshi here?”
Cementoss was surprised at how calm she was handling this, to the point it made him more concerned “Uhm- n-no” he answered “Higari said he’s with Ectoplasm adn Riley”
Chikara nodded “Ah, okay then! Can you do a favour hun? Can you take maybe uh” Chikara hummed “Three steps to the left?“
When Chikara only continued to smile Cementoss slowly raised a brow “Oh..kay?” he said awkwardly, taking three steps to the left as he was asked. Doorway now free Higari turned to Chikara and then the hallway “...Welp!” He smacked his hands together, Chikara’s smile making him feel unnerved “Nice to see you’re feelin’ better Chi!” Higari turned on his heel and began to hurriedly march out the room, perhaps if he was lucky Chikara wouldn’t notice him leaving when she went to greet Cementoss “Ill see you late-EEARGH!”
That was until Chikara tackled him

Chikara singing to her lil babu (she’s prolly singing this - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DUiQefKs9ds)
And bonus Cementoss listening to her sing cuz she rarely sings UwU
Magakure used to sing little lullabies to her kids when they where little, and when Chikara became a mum she ended up embracing a lot of typical motherly behaviours. As a teenager she never really embraced any girly things, so becoming a mum helped her open up on her more feminine caring side
Also their kiddo is named Hoshi (roughly translates to star in Japanese). Unlike his older cousin Riley Hoshi was and still is a very calm and quite kid, he’s pretty shy too, which leads to Chikara being especially soft with him. She sings him lullabies often, the first time she discovered Cementoss listening in on her signing she probably yelped in surprise and then was embarrassed for the next hour
Maybe every now and then she’ll sing a tune infront of him

Just a little head cannon I thought of: When Chikara was pregnant with Hoshi, someone got her a shirt that said ‘Mom of a Future Bad*ss’ and she’s worn it ever since, even though it’s way too big for her now.
I can imagine Hono gifting her that
Since Hono respects Cementoss he was pretty chill when Chikara said she was pregnant (surprising the rest of his siblings and mum). Hono gets her it as a joke and not so subtle sign of respect to Cementoss
Chikara 100% wears that shirt, she 100% buys Hoshi the same shirt in his size and goes to show everyone in UA how badass her baby is. Say her son is badass or she'll stomp you into oblivion.

Anatomy practise but was mostly an excuse to draw Chikara looking tired too
I did some pregnancy headcannons for Chikara ages ago (https://palettepainter.tumblr.com/post/652464552794079232/chiktoss-nonsense-2#notes) and had planned to do a drawing for that post, but I got tired so in the end just kept it as a text post.
So heres Chikara, very much pregnant and very much missing being able to sleep properly.
Chikara despite her smug streak is pretty whinny and moody during pregnancy, the only people she can handle during this time are Cementoss and on occasion Higari, in her mind everyone else can shove off unless they’re promising food.
