Marilyn doesn't exist. When I come out of my dressing room, I'm Norma Jeane. I'm still her when the camera is rolling. Marilyn Monroe only exists on the screen.

Blonde isn't a biopic of Marilyn Monroe. It is a metaphor for all the trouble women in Hollywood have been through by an industry that has not only been selling their sex appeal but has violated them repeatedly to let them get on the big screen. It's fitting then that Hollywood's most celebrated sex symbol becomes the ultimate symbol for the #MeToo era, something that goes missing in the minds of critics dismissing this film as disgusting or misogynistic. Ana De Armas, a pin-up girl herself for the modern era, seems born to play this role and her transformation is breathtaking and immersing. For 2 hours and 46 minutes, you'll marvel at her but also at every different set-up, masterfully created by Andrew Dominik and the director of photography, Chayse Irvin, along with every other artistic collaborator behind the scenes, recreating 50's Hollywood as well as old Hollywood style of filmmaking. The sets, the costumes, the make-up and hair, the lenses and formats used. It's a feast for our eyes but also our ears, thanks to the haunting music by Nick Cave and Warren Ellis. The real mastery of the film, however, is that although it tries hard to recreate the look, it has the audacity to only use the events of Norma Jeane's life as an excuse to tell a universal story about all the women that have been used and abused in order to sell cinema tickets, gossip magazines and movie dreams. It's not an easy film to see, nor does it make for an entertaining telling of stardom. This is hell, soaked in blood and painted blonde.

Volvo XC60, by Gustav Johansson
Ads are like video clips, it's a space for directors to be creative with a goal behind it : to promote something, here a brand. And what a brand. I'm maybe not very objective because I like Volvo (I enjoy the design of this model and I like the fact that the brand put safety first), but I truly think that this ad is one of the best ad that we can do for a car.
Typically, I don’t understand why, most of the time, car’s ad are not showing the car, or it maybe does 3 secondes. Maybe the brand are just ashamed of their car ? I don’t know, but this ad for the XC60 model does a great balance between the story of a young little girl on her first day at school and the skills of the car which is shown in parallel. We follow the adventures that she’s dreaming of while she’s talking to her mom in the long version of the video, but we also see how fragile life is and how all these expectations could be turned upside down by an unfortunate car accident. But thanks to Volvo, you’ll never hurt anyone and never break the dreams of little girls.
