Sir Michael John Gambon CBE (/ˈɡæmbɒn/; October 19, 1940 – September 27, 2023) Film, stage and television actor. Gambon started his acting career with Laurence Olivier as one of the original members of the Royal National Theatre. Over his six-decade-long career, he received three Olivier Awards, two Screen Actors Guild Awards, and four BAFTA Awards. In 1998, he was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II for services to drama. Gambon enhanced his stardom through his role of Albus Dumbledore in the Harry Potter film series from 2004 to 2011, replacing Richard Harris following his death in 2002.

For his work on television, he received four BAFTA Awards for The Singing Detective (1986), Wives and Daughters (1999), Longitude (2000), and Perfect Strangers (2001). He also received two Primetime Emmy Award nominations for Path to War (2002) and Emma (2009). Other notable projects include Cranford (2007) and The Casual Vacancy (2015). In 2017, he received the Irish Film & Television Academy Lifetime Achievement Award.

In 1967, he made his television debut in the BBC television adaptation of Much Ado About Nothing as Watchman No. 4. He also appeared in British programmes such as Softly, Softly (1967), and Public Eye (1968). From 1968 to 1970, he featured in the BBC historical series The Borderers as Gavin Kerr. He also had a recurring role in the Canadian series The Challengers (1972). He also appeared in drama anthology series including Play for Today, Play of the Month, and ITV Playhouse.

His craggy looks soon made him into a character actor. For his lead role in Dennis Potter's The Singing Detective (1986) he won his first British Academy Television Award for Best Actor. He starred as detective Inspector Jules Maigret in an ITV adaptation of twelve of Georges Simenon's books. In 1990, he played Jerry in Harold Pinter's Betrayal for BBC Radio 3. In 1991, he starred as Tommy Hanbury in an episode of the ITV series Minder called "Look Who's Coming To Pinner". He also appeared in the BBC serial Wives and Daughters (1999) based on the Victorian novel by the same name by Elizabeth Gaskell. Carl Weathers, linebacker-turned-actor who starred in 'Rocky' movies, dies at 76

NEW YORK

Carl Weathers, a former NFL linebacker who became a Hollywood action movie and comedy star, playing nemesis-turned-ally Apollo Creed in the “Rocky” movies, facing off against Arnold Schwarzenegger in “Predator” and teaching golf in “Happy Gilmore,” has died. He was 76.

Matt Luber, his manager, said Weathers died Thursday. His family issued a statement saying he died “peacefully in his sleep.

Comfortable flexing his muscles on the big screen in “Action Jackson” as he was joking around on the small screen in such shows as “Arrested Development,” Weathers was perhaps most closely associated with Creed, who made his first appearance as the cocky, undisputed heavyweight world champion in 1976’s “Rocky,” starring Sylvester Stallone.

“It puts you on the map and makes your career, so to speak. But that’s a one-off, so you’ve got to follow it up with something. Fortunately those movies kept coming, and Apollo Creed became more and more in people’s consciousness and welcome in their lives, and it was just the right guy at the right time,” he told The Daily Beast in 2017.

Most recently, Weathers has starred in the Disney+ hit “The Mandalorian,” appearing in all three seasons.

Creed, who appeared in the first four “Rocky” movies, memorably died in the ring of 1984’s “Rocky IV,” going toe-to-toe with the hulking, steroided-using Soviet Ivan Drago, played by Dolph Lundgren. Before he entered the ring, James Brown sang “Living in America” with showgirls and Creed popped up on a balcony in a Star-Spangled Banner shorts and waistcoat combo and an Uncle Sam hat, dancing and taunting Drago.

A bloodied Creed collapses in the ring after taking a vicious beating, twitches and is cradled by Rocky as he dies, inevitably setting up a fight between Drago and Rocky. But while Creed is gone, his character’s son, Michael B. Jordan’s Adonis Creed, would lead his own boxing trilogy starting in 2015.

Weathers went on to 1987’s “Predator,” where he flexed his pecs alongside Schwarzenegger, Jesse Ventura and a host of others, and 1988’s nouveau blaxploitation flick “Action Jackson,” where he trains his flamethrower on a bad guy and asks, “How do you like your ribs?” before broiling him.

He later added a false wooden hand to play a gold pro for the 1996 comedy classic “Happy Gilmore” opposite Adam Sandler and starred in Dick Wolf’s short-lived spin-off series “Chicago Justice” in 2017 and in Disney’s “The Mandalorian,” earning an Emmy Award nomination in 2021.

Weathers grew up admiring actors such as Woody Strode, whose combination of physique and acting prowess in “Spartacus” made an early impression. Others he idolized included actors Sidney Poitier and Harry Belafonte and athletes Jim Brown and Muhammad Ali, stars who broke the mold and the color barrier.

“There are so many people that came before me who I admired and whose success I wanted to emulate, and just kind of hit the benchmarks they hit in terms of success, who created a pathway that I’ve been able to walk and find success as a result. And hopefully I can inspire someone else to do good work as well,” he told the Detroit News 2023. “I guess I’m just a lucky guy.”

Growing up in New Orleans, Weathers started performing in plays as early as grade school. In high school, athletics took him down another path but he would reunite with his first love later in life.

Weathers played college football at San Diego State University — he majored in theater — and went on to play for one season in the NFL, for the Oakland Raiders, in 1970.

“When I found football, it was a completely different outlet,” says Weathers told the Detroit News. “It was more about the physicality, although one does feed the other. You needed some smarts because there were playbooks to study and film to study, to learn about the opposition on any given week.”

After the Raiders, he joined the Canadian Football League, playing for two years while finishing up his studies during the offseason at San Francisco State University. He graduated with a B.A. in drama in 1974.

After appearing in several films and TV shows, including “Good Times,” “The Six Million Dollar Man,” “In the Heat of the Night” and “Starsky & Hutch,” as well as fighting Nazis alongside Harrison Ford in “Force 10 From Navarone,” Weathers landed his knockout role — Creed. He told The Hollywood Reporter that his start in the iconic franchise was not auspicious.

He was asked to read with the writer, Stallone, then unknown. Weathers read the scene but felt it didn’t land and so he blurted out: “I could do a lot better if you got me a real actor to work with,” he recalled. “So I just insulted the star of the movie without really knowing it and not intending to.” He also lied that he had any boxing experience.

Later in life, Weathers developed a passion for directing, helming episodes of “Silk Stalking” and and the Lorenzo Lamas vehicle “Renegade.” He directed a season three episode of “The Mandalorian.”

Weathers introduced himself to another generation when he portrayed himself as an opportunistic and extremely thrifty actor who becomes involved with the dysfunctional clan at the heart of “Arrested Development.”

The Weathers character likes to save money by making broth from discarded food — ’There’s still plenty of meat on that bone” and “Baby, you got a stew going!” — and, for the right price, agrees to become an acting coach for delusional and talent-free thespian Tobias Funke, played by David Cross.

Weathers is survived by two sons.

In 2015, Perry sold the mansion and relocated its services.[82]

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Perry launched an apparel line inspired by Friends, with proceeds donated to the World Health Organization's COVID-19 relief fund.

On October 28, 2023, Perry was found unresponsive in his hot tub by his assistant at his home in Pacific Palisades, Los Angeles, and later pronounced dead by officers from the Los Angeles Police Department. LAPD Captain Scot Williams said the "cause of death may not be known for some time, but at this point foul play is not suspected." On October 29, 2023, the cause of death was listed as "deferred" by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office, pending "additional investigative steps".

Scott Miller Berry is a film festival obsessed cinephile and filmmaker who has lived in Toronto since 2001. He currently programs films at Rendezvous With Madness Festival and with the re:assemblage collective's DIFFUSION non-fiction/documentary film festival.

Previously he was Executive Director for ten years at the Images Festival. Recipient of the 2015 Rita Davies Margo Bindhardt Award for cultural service in Toronto, he sits on the Boards of Toronto Media Arts Centre (TMAC) and Long Winter Music and Arts Festival.

Recent Jury work includes EXiS Festival (Seoul, South Korea, 2021), ARKIPEL Festival (Jakarta, Indonesia, 2019 & 2016), Canada Council for the Arts (2022-2017), Ontario and Toronto Arts Council (2019-2016); Future of Film Showcase (2021).

He co-curated a program entitled "Foster Films" at the 2023 Oberhausen Short Film Festival and has toured film programs to Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, Taipei, Tokyo, Bangalore, Bangkok, Seoul, Singapore and an upcoming tour to Manila and Hanoi.

For the second time in 10 days, Film Cincinnati has announced that a feature film is shooting in Greater Cincinnati.

Drew Harwood is the writer, director, producer and one of the lead actors for Rebel/Rebel, described by the film commission as "a coming-of-age drama about a once famous actor grappling with drugs, addiction and self-discovery."

Harwood also wrote, directed and produced The One You Feed, which was released last year. Rebel/Rebel stars South African native Gareth Koorzen, who also appeared in The One You Feed, and Katie Garland Noble, a producer on The One You Feed. Her acting credits include Fat City, New Orleans and Caravaggio and My Mother The Pope.

Cincinnati natives John A. "Johnny" Mocker Jr., and Robert "Chip" Heidt III are executive producers along with Noble's Blue Himalayas Productions. Mocker also was an executive producer for The One You Feed.

The Rebel/Rebel cast includes Roger Jerome, Joseph Moreland, Chris R. Taylor, Mary Charles Miller, Aja Nicole, Sidney Edwards, Nick Coleman, John Christian Schulte, Amber Hutchins, Heather Fay and Jai Sahai, according to the Internet Movie Datebase.

Location shooting for Rebel/Rebel began in May. It is "expected to continue through late June," the Film Cincinnati announcement said.

Bones And All, starring Timothée Chalamet, Taylor Russell and Oscar-winner Mark Rylance, began filming here May 27. It's the first film shot in the United States by Italian director Luca Guadagnino, a 2017 Academy Award nominee for Call Me By Your Name, and the first major film production in Greater Cincinnati since the global coronavirus pandemic outbreak.

"With more feature films returning to production, we are thrilled to have F/A Films using our locations and our talent," says Kristen Schlotman, Film Cincinnati executive director, in the announcement. "Greater Cincinnati continues to be in demand for features thanks to our talented roster of cast and crew members,"

Early life and education.

Jedaiah Mosha Lim was born on April 24, 1995, in Seoul, and grew up in there. He moved to Jakarta in 2011 due to personal reasons and so he work both in South Korea and Indonesia under the same agency, HLA & Co. Jeremiah Lim, his father, is a Canadian-Korean chef who runs restaurants in several countries. Inggrid Carmelita Lee, his mother, is an Indonesian-Korean. The first born of Lim, Theodosia Lim, is a business woman who owns a beauty brand Skèenosia with the help of Mosha Lim as co-owner and the brand ambassador. His brother, Joe Lim, is an editor for the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).

He is a multilingual speaker. He communicates in Korean, English, and Bahasa Indonesia. Yet he stated that he is not fluent in Bahasa Indonesia¹.

Rise to prominence.

Mosha is a South Korean actor under Hoshka Lim Agency (HLA & Co.). The issue was raging because his name was similar to the agency and people started calling him Nepo Baby. Yet the agency released their statement that Mosha is a self made-up actor who built his reputation from scratch.

He began his career as a kid in television productions, appearing in the drama series Run Away in 2000. Devour food

The 10th Anniversary of the festival took place on October 20–25, 2020 in a hybrid online and in-person format. More than 80 films from around the world were screened, with a special focus on Italian cinema and Italian cuisine. Actor Joe Pantoliano, star of the film From the Vine attended on opening night along with director Sean Cisterna. Chef Lidia Bastianich was the guest curator. The 9th edition of the festival took place from October 22–27, 2019. The Festival added events in Kentville, Nova Scotia and in 2019 will add events in Windsor, Nova Scotia In 2018, 75 Films were screened, with more than 100 events in total. Sam Kass, former chef to President Barack Obama, was the opening night curator. The 8th edition of the festival occurred October 23–28, 2018. Notable Canadian Chef Michael Smith (chef) led a team of Canadian chefs for the Saturday evening Spotlight Gala that followed the World premiere of Canadian film Grand Cru with the director David Eng and star winemaker Pascal Marchand in attendance. Pepin was in attendance and provided insight into his long career. The festival also hosted a special screening of Jacques Pepin: The Art of Craft by Director Peter Stein. Pinsent curated the opening night film The Hundred Foot Journey. The 7th addition of Devour was opened by iconic Canadian actor Gordon Pinsent. Film director Robert Kenner ( Food, Inc.) and Hollywood director-writer-actor Jason Priestley both participated in various capacities and now serve as Honorary Advisory Board Members. In 2011, 30 new films from around the world were screened, with ticket sales of about 2,000. The first festival took place at the Al Whittle Theatre in Wolfville, screening 11 retrospective films with tickets sales of approximately 1,000. The festival was founded in 2009 by Slow Food Nova Scotia. Festival Dates for 2021 (an expanded hybrid festival) are October 19–24, 2021. Opening night celebrity host was "Phil Rosenthal" from the "Netflix" hit "Somebody Feed Phil". Attendance was 1800 in person and 1600 virtual guests. In 2020 organizers mounted a hybrid in-person and streamed festival due to Covid-19. The five-day festival takes place annually in late fall in the Wolfville, Kings County, Nova Scotia. Devour! The Food Film Fest (formerly the Slow Motion Food Film Fest) is a Canadian Film festival dedicated to films about food and wine culture.
