Justice for Gaza Campaign: Seeking Accountability for War Crimes
In a world where the horrors of conflict often unfold far from the eyes of those in power, the Justice for Gaza campaign emerges as a beacon of hope for accountability. Spearheaded by the International Centre of Justice for Palestinians (ICJP), this initiative aims to bring to light alleged war crimes committed by Israel during its actions in Gaza. Unraveling the Case The campaign revolves…

Alright, so I really am salty. I could not care less about the monarchy, however, I do care about how much more our already dwindling economy is going to get fucked over by this. State funerals, days of mourning and all that crap. So forgive me if we don’t find your jokes about the situation funny, I already know I’m setting myself up for ridiculous comments from people who don’t understand.
Us regular British citizens are literally just trying to exist here, while the country fails around us and the Tory twats in charge trash the environment and subsequently remove any rights that trans people were only just trying to obtain.

"English did not just borrow words from other languages; it was stuffed to the brim with foreign influences, a Frankenstein vernacular. And Robin found it incredible, how this country, whose citizens prided themselves so much on being better than the rest of the world, could not make it through an afternoon tea without borrowed goods."

I'm livid. Attenborough played a large part in me deciding to follow ecology and conservation as a career path! The episode that's being withdrawn is about the destruction and rewilding of British natural habitats, which the general public need to see! Pandering to right-wing morons, who do nothing but bury their heads in the sand and pretend that they've got nothing to do with it, is not how we're going to fix it! The world is suffering biodiversity loss on a huge scale and more awareness means more likelihood of people coming together to find solutions! I've never been so disappointed with the BBC...

I'm dying over the fact that the royal family is so adamantly denying that King C has prostate cancer and is instead refusing to state what kind of cancer he has. Like. We weren't born yesterday, he Obviously has prostate cancer. And my problem isn't that they're denying it. My problem is that they should not have been sharing such personal medical information (several days ago when they said he'd been admitted to hospital over prostate issues) to begin with. Like, period, actually.

"CANADA IS 'HOME' ΤΟ 135 IMMIGRANTS," Toronto Star. June 24, 1943. Page 3. ---- Canada became the official home of 135 foreign-born residents this week when they took the oath of allegiance to His Majesty the King. William Stangret, Parkham Ave., native of Poland, has lived here 16 years. He took the oath proudly.
Miss Helme Rahikka, native of Finland, has lived in Toronto for the past 13 years. "This is the happiest moment of my life," she exclaimed as she received her papers proclaiming her a Canadian citizen.
Private W. Strand, who has lived here 18 years, served with the Canadian Army before transferring to the Norwegian forces. A native of Norway, he went to school here. He wears a long service medal.
Tom Dorosh, native of Russia. came to Toronto 16 years ago. His father, brothers and sisters are fighting with the Russian forces. "I am happy to be a real Canadian if not exactly a new one," he said.

it's actually a common misconception that british people aren't real. the fact of the matter is they are only virtually mythical creatures as sightings are becoming rarer and rarer. the truth is that british citizens are endangered and are dying out faster than ever
let's keep the british species in our prayers, no matter how mythical and annoying they may seem, we'll save you <3

ive been staring at the words "Add something, if you'd like" for so long trying to figure how to remotely articulate whatever emotion im feeling in response to hearing someone stating - very confidently, i might add - that george orwell did not write anything substantial about the spanish civil war and francoist spain.
my guy, my dude, my man, my bloke, my chap, he took a bullet to the neck fighting against francos forces in the spanish civil war. its literally where a lot of his political leanings were cemented. i think that might have informed his later writing.
also he wrOTE HOMAGE TO CATALONIA. WHAT DO YOU THINK THAT BOOK IS ABOUT?

National Status of the Former (and Ongoing) British Empire
I've been doing research on the nationalities of all the former territories occupied, colonized, settled, controlled, or otherwise claimed by the British Empire. Short story: it's a mess.
But it also occurred to me in doing that that I couldn't find a good list of former colonies and territories that noted their status today (in Jan. 2024). So... here we are! I bet there are errors and I bet there are omissions, because – again – it's a MESS to get a clear picture of. And according to many legal historians and cultural studies scholars, that was and is on purpose.
Snapshots of those lists below -- but the full, and better-formatted version on my wordpress [because Tumblr didn't support the table I tried to make].

[* Denotes countries now in the Commonwealth of Nations.]
Again, I am sure there are issues here, as there have been contestations, debates, and challenges to the statuses of people born on land around the world that was once touched by British imperial boots.
For more on the CHAOS of those struggles, including the fundamental problem with establishing what “British nationality” even means, I highly recommend:
Ann Dummett and Andrew Nicol, Subjects, Citizens, Aliens and Others: Nationality and Immigration Law (London: Weidenfeld and Nicolson, 1990).
