Tampon Tuesday drive highlights community needs
Tumblr media
Period poverty. You may not have heard this phrase before, but it affects thousands of people in our community. Period poverty happens when someone does not have enough income to pay for their menstrual products, and must make choices between those products and other necessities like food, transportation or utilities. You wouldn’t expect someone to go without toilet paper or toothpaste – why would you expect them to go without menstrual products? Tampon Tuesday is national initiative with different organizers and beneficiaries across the country. In Halifax, United Way Halifax and NSGEU have partnered for the first time to run a Tampon Tuesday product drive at workplaces across HRM. Collected products will then be distributed to those who need them through community organizations. At United Way Halifax, Daniel Blacquiere is leading the charge and engaging organizations and people to be part of Tampon Tuesday. While it may seem a little strange at first to see a man standing up for what is often seen as a women’s issue, Daniel is quite comfortable talking to others about what he sees as an unmet need in the community. “My role with United Way Halifax as the Donor Engagement Officer gives me the opportunity to rally donors and individuals in Halifax on variety of social issues,” Daniel says. “The Tampon Tuesday initiative is not a call to action for only women, but one that should be supported by the entire community. These issues are concerning human dignity and access to necessities.” Period poverty doesn’t just affect women either - it affects teenage girls and transgender or non-binary individuals as well. And, for single moms struggling to get by, it affects their children. With so many people potentially impacted by period poverty, it only makes sense to have everyone stand up to tackle the issue. And it’s been a mostly positive experience for Daniel, who says he’s received great feedback. “We should all set an example and support women and trans individuals and show that the subject of period poverty is not taboo.” Interested in starting your own Tampon Tuesday drive? Contact Daniel or drop off collected menstrual products at our office, 46 Portland Street, 7th Floor, until March 5.

Real estate business models free webinar
Hi everyone.
I am giving a free webinar on Thursday October 26th from 9 pm til 10:30 pm ET, in cooperation with Paul Blacquiere’s Spirepoint.
Most people think that real estate investing only has one path or one model—you know, buy a few residential rentals and hope for the best.
What we have been working on is taking that model and a whole lot more, and making them better, not just for landlords and investors but for their tenants, visitors even for their cities, towns and villages.
Anyway, my webinars are not just sales pitches—you’ll actually learn something—things like:
-how to maximize your real estate returns by adopting a new business model or improving an existing one
-why doing 1 project, 30 times always beats doing 30 different projects, 1 time each
-what is a business model and why do I need one?
-is it true that if I have a great business model, I can explore new options and differentiate myself from thousands of other investors and developers?
-can I find a model I am passionate about that will sustain me and my family for generations?
-learn more about a Warren Buffett methodology applied to real estate investing and why it works
-see how you too can become an “equity lord”
-find out why Bruce Firestone is coaching—the sad tale of millions of seniors and retirees—Tajir’s experience
If you’d like to join us, here’s all you need to do:
CLICK ON THIS LINK A FEW MINUTES BEFORE 9 PM ET ON OCTOBER 26TH

Summerside police say suspected abduction was a 'misunderstanding'
A girl that was thought to have been abducted has called police in Summerside, P.E.I., to tell them the situation was a "misunderstanding."
"After this evening’s updated media release, the female involved contacted police to report that she believed she was the person police were looking for and that this incident was a misunderstanding,” the Summerside Police Service said in a news release.
"The person involved told police she had seen the photo of the vehicle of interest posted on social media platforms and said she was a passenger in that vehicle and yelled out the window to a friend in another vehicle, jokingly saying she had been kidnapped."
Police say that everyone involved knows each other and they were able to confirm the details of the girl's version of events and "are satisfied that she is the person involved and that there was no abduction," the release said.
Police also said the girl hadn't intended to cause any alarm to the public.
*Update* Persons and vehicle involved in today's reported abduction have been located. See attached media release for further details. Thanks to the public and assisting agencies for their efforts. pic.twitter.com/oVaqqCyCoT
— Summerside Police (@SsidePolice) August 17, 2020
The Summerside Police Service had received a call just before noon Monday from a witness who reported that they had seen a girl, who they believed was about 12 years old, yelling from the window of a car that she had been kidnapped.
The vehicle was travelling east on Walker Avenue from Granville Street toward MacEwan Road at the time.
Prince Edward Island residents received an Amber Alert from the provincial Emergency Measures Organization after 1 p.m.
Sgt. Jason Blacquiere said police were treating it as a "legitimate abduction."
Staff at points of entry and exit from the province were aware of the ongoing incident and the police force's general patrol section and major crime unit were working the case, Blacquiere said.
Other policing agencies on the Island were aware and taking calls from the public related to the incident, including many sightings of cars matching the description.
