No AZ Vaccine for under 40s
The Guardian reports that under 40s will receive an alternative vaccine to the AstroZeneca/Oxford vaccine after 242 receivers had blood clots after receiving their first dose of the vaccine out of which 47 were fatal, while only 6 have reported after the second dose to the MHRA. This is a precaution as the rate of blood clots in 40-49 year olds is greater than in the more aged population. The UK has now vaccinated over half the population with the first dose and over a quarter with the second dose of the vaccines. This new regulation follows after Germany has opened up the AZ vaccine to all over 18s reversing their earlier advice based upon the speculations of blood clots due to the vaccines leading to national distrust in the vaccine and many of the doses going to waste amid their own vaccine supply crisis.

I wonder what % of newspapers recycling cold war propaganda for the Russian Covid Vaccine were posting articles praising how fast western vaccine trials have entered stage 3 or how "wow Purdue's Remdesivir is doing great no need to worry!" or not rly digging into how the US's "operation warpspeed" has been able to like.....warp the speed.... or.....

There were several hundred different projects around the world to develop a vaccine against COVID, at least fifty made it to human trials, I think several dozen have been approved, and the ones I know of that are currently in use include Moderna’s Spikevax, Pfizer’s Comirnaty, Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen, AstroZeneca’s Vaxzevria/Covishield, SinoVac’s CoronaVac, Sinopharm’s BIBP, Cuba’s Abdala and Soberana, Baharat Biotech’s Covaxin, Cadila Healthcare’s ZyCov-D, and Russia’s Sputnik V. They were developed, tested, and manufactured around the world in different ways and on different timelines and come with different distribution challenges, dosage schedules, efficacy levels, and side effect profiles.
…Every day I hear people online say that “the COVID vaccine” is bad.

got my second vaccine! it’s only astrozeneca sadly, i had my first dose before they did the thing of only giving it to over 40s and giving under 40s pfizer, so they gave me what i had the first time. In hindsight not sure if i would have waited for the pfizer to be available, i would only be getting my first dose around now if i did vs. having the protection of 1 dose of AZ for the last 12 weeks.
(original one wasn’t based on the normal queue, there was a pop up thing where they were giving them first come first serve to all over 18s from my borough).

mindenesetre a hivatalos kormányoldalon terjeszetett szám elég erős alulbecslésnek tűnik.

i’ve already had my first astrozeneca dose and NOW they’re like “yeah so it CAN cause blood clots so we’re not gonna give it to anyone under 30” but like bitch i’m 23 i’m under 30 so now i’m just doing everything that’s supposed to thin ur blood...... drinking excessively taking aspirin etc. and every time i get a SLIGHT twinge of pain i’m like “oh god this is it” and ya KNOW WHAT???? i’m STILL glad i got the jab and i’m STILL gonna get my second dose the moment they offer it to me. listen. listen the risk of a rare side effect that can sometimes cause death is one i’m wiling to take in the broader cause of “everyone get your fucking vaccinations jesus christ”. Like a few ppl dying bcus of blood clots isn’t fucking ideal but in the grand scheme of things it’s way, way less deaths than we’d have if we went full anti-vaxxer. So like. aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa shit fuck!!!!!!!! but also i’m absolutely happy with my decision.

I’m also in Canada and I’m pissed I have to wait 4 months for my second Pfizer dose! I got my first shot near the beginning of the year and I still have to wait another month for my 2nd dose - and I work in a hospital! What really angers me is when I got the first dose, they gave me an appointment a month away and then right when they came up with this new 4 month wait, they cancelled my original 2nd appointment and moved it another 3 months! Ridiculous!
Yeah, the lack of reliable arrivals for vaccines, particularly from Pfizer has been a major issue. And don’t even get me started on Moderna, who are effectively just tossing a few bottles across the border like a drunk uncle once a month. When they gave so many of us those first shots early on, they thought (based on promises from Pfizer) that many more shots were on the way but then there were delays, more delays and a lot of excuses and schedules had to be reworked. It’s just frustrating because this huge delay between the two shots is not at all recommended by the manufacturer (ironic, since they are the cause of the problem) or medical professionals as the vaccine was never really tested for those conditions. And then we got Astrozeneca because the US didn’t want it and well, now look at what’s happening....
