Review of I’m from’s Mugwort Gel Cleanser
I’m from is a Korean brand that has a strong focus on transparency and listing all of the ingredients they use in their products. Their Mugwort Gel Cleanser is designed to soothe skin while cleansing with a gentle lather. Key ingredients include 60% mugwort extract (calming, soothing to dry and irritated skin, anti-inflammatory, gentle, hydrating, sensitive skin-friendly), mugwort oil (gentle, hydrating, ideal for sensitive skin, anti-inflammatory, soothing), holy basil leaf extract (anti-acne, anti-aging, reduces pigmentation, soothing, anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial), turmeric root extract (improves complexion, adds radiance, anti-acne, anti-aging, reduces hyperpigmentation, moisturizing) and cocoa extract (antioxidant, anti-aging, improves circulation and hydration, anti-inflammatory, reduces redness). This cleanser retails for between $18-36 USD, you can get it here for $18 + shipping. Use code DANNIEL15 to save 15 percent.
Ingredients
Artemisia Princeps (Mugwort) Extract (60%), Water, Sodium C14-16 Olefin Sulfonate, Lauryl Hydroxysultaine, Glycerin, 1,2-Hexanediol, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Caprylyl Glycol, Sodium Methyl Cocoyl Taurate, Sodium Chloride, Tromethamine, Hexadecene, Tetradecene, Sodium Sulfate, Artemisia Vulgaris (Mugwort) Oil, Melia Azadirachta (Chinaberry) Leaf Extract, Melia Azadirachta (Chinaberry) Flower Extract, Ocimum Sanctum (Holy Basil) Leaf Extract, Disodium EDTA, Curcuma Longa (Turmeric) Root Extract, Dextrin, Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Extract, Corallina Officinalis (Coral Weed) Extract
To quickly note, I received this for free from Wishtrend for my honest review.
Tumblr media
This cleanser contains 150 ml (5.07 oz) and has a pretty noticeable natural mugwort scent, it's quite astringent actually.
Tumblr media
The cleanser is a gel cleanser and the gel has kind of a thick consistency. It also has a natural greenish tinge. It spreads well but it doesn't really lather too much and it's best to apply to wet skin to get it to spread on the skin.
Tumblr media
Once it's rinsed off, it does leave a nice hydrated finish.
Recommended use is to create enough later with a sufficient amount of cleanser on your wet face and hands. Gently massage over your entire face and then rinse off with lukewarm water. The cleanser is cruelty-free, pH balanced, and free of artificial coloring, fragrances, and ethanol. It’s also vegan-friendly. After using, it's important to note, the natural mugwort fragrance is strong, I didn't notice any irritation but if you're sensitive at all to fragrance, though I actually do think this is a great option for sensitive skin, it is best to find a different product. The cleanser is extremely gentle and it does say it can remove sunscreen and makeup effectively. I found that I still needed to double cleanse, I'd suggest this to remove light makeup and non-water resistant sunscreen. It doesn't lather too much which I did find a little disconcerting, I love when I can get a good lather to really work into my skin. So that's really down to personal preference. There are some great ingredients in this cleanser and it leaves my skin looking and feeling more hydrated and evens out my complexion. If you've tried any other products from their mugwort line, you would definitely enjoy this. I'd recommend this to anyone, especially those with sensitive skin and dry skin.
What I like: this is a very gentle and sensitive skin-friendly cleanser. I didn't have any irritation and it left my skin more radiant, even, and hydrated. It contains only natural fragrance and no major irritants in the ingredient list. What I don't like: the mugwort scent is really strong.
Pros:
Hydrating
Non-drying
Evens skin tone
Toning
Gentle
Sensitive skin friendly
No artificial fragrance
Adds radiance
Cons:
Strong mugwort scent
Would I buy this?
Yes
Rating: 9/10

If this unreliable self can become someone... - Part 2 (Annotated Edition)
"I'll teach you," Toji-san had said, and Yuuta was thankful for it. "I'll teach you," Yuuta wants to say in turn. There's no way he can ever show how truly grateful he is, but the least he can do is try. [Edo AU]

Once again I bring y’all commentary on my own writing, because I am unstoppable. As promised, there are plants and samurai in there ! And swords, although that’s more for the fic itself.
“The weather here is warmer than back home […]”
My personal headcanon is that Yuuta comes from Aomori, the northernmost region of Honshu (Japan’s main island). The reasoning actually comes from Rika’s backstory, with her dad taking her hiking in the mountains and then them getting lost in a blizzard… I don’t know, I just think it makes sense for them to be from a very cold, snowy region.
Anyway in this story he doesn’t come from Aomori itself, but rather from a small mountain village in what will become the Aomori prefecture. The kind of small village that doesn’t even have a name, because it’s the only one in the valley and the closest other settlement is on the other side of a mountain in another valley and you only see the people from there maybe once of twice a year when the weather allows it.
Fun unrelated fact, but in Switzerland some mountainous valleys in Graubünden were so isolated that they developed different dialects. So now we have multiple versions of Rumantsch, which has like 40k speakers in total.
Yomogi (ヨモギ)
A species of mugwort also known as Artemisia Princeps, or Japanese mugwort. Its leaves are used in cooking to make kusamochi, but the juice is also used in traditional medicine as a way to prevent bleeding or to lower fevers.
Antiseptic
I kept this one vague, because while I do know that in the European Middle Ages, wild leek and related plants would be used as medicinal plants to prevent infections, I am not sure if that was the case in Japan. Probably was, since those are pretty common plants and that’s usually the basis for that kind of use, but I have no certainty and I don’t want to say anything stupid.
I do know that leeks are supposed to cure colds according to Japanese folk medicine, so that’s something at least. If you have a cold, tie a leek around your neck and you’ll be fine in no time ! (probably)
The paste for the bruises
Once again, my knowledge betrays me. I do have the titles of references I could turn to, but unfortunately they’re in Japanese, and my reading abilities stop at comics. Not even sure I could even get my hands on them if I could read them, anyway.
What I can tell you about folk medicine though, is that in the Alps (and generally northern Europe) we use Arnica Montana grinded up to a paste for bruises and insect bites, although its effects haven’t been proven scientifically. It’s still a very popular remedy in any case, and if anything putting something cold on bruises helps with the pain, whether it has actual medical properties or not.
How do you even stop being a samurai ?
Technically, there are a few options. If your daimyou dies and you find yourself without a Lord to serve, or if you just get kicked out of his service, you’ll become a rônin. Same if you run away for some reason. That’s not exactly a good thing, but it’s nothing that can stop you from finding a normal job and just living life as a commoner (like lots of actual samurai were also forced to at the time), or from finding another Lord who will take you into his service.
Of course, the Zen’in hate Toji’s guts, so they instead had him declared officially dead. Which is immensely more permanent. It also means Toji lost all privileges given to the samurai caste, such as the right to bear sharp weapons (like swords). Not that it’s going to stop him, since there’s not much of a law enforcement on the road.
It’s also worth noting that the Zen’in are, safe for a few ghostly details, a pretty traditional samurai clan – serving a daimyou, probably participating in poetry contests and the like from time to time… During the Edo era, the number of samurai capable of keeping this way of living got much lower, due to the long-lasting peace, with most of them having to turn to commerce or to governmental offices like the machikata to make a living. So for the Zen’in to be able to remain the same way as they used to before the Edo era… it speaks to their wealth and political power.
Laundry
You can actually make soap with wood ashes, although normally you should let it rest for way longer than in this story. Apparently pines make the best ashes for that purpose ?
If you can, please use a softer support than rocks when doing the actual washing though. Wood works good, and risks damaging the textile way less.
Quarter-hour
Hours in Edo-era Japan were worth roughly two of ours. So Toji has actually been scolding Yuuta for 30 minutes, or what feels like it at the very least. Press F for our boy ú.ù
Sun (寸)
An old unit of length used in Japan before the Meiji era (although it’s still used currently for some trades, like carpentry). It’s equivalent to the Chinese cun, and measures about 3cm (or 1.2in).
And we’re done ! This time was much shorter, but I guess that’s to be expected when the characters are mostly isolated from civilization. Next time though, we’ll be back in town babey !!

I'M FROM Mugwort Essence-[Review Time] -is a soothing essence for the skin, containing a single ingredient of Mugwort Extract. The refreshing fluid formula adheres to soothe your skin and it also helps other skincare routines to better absorb. Key Ingredients : 💚Artemisia Princeps Extract 100% I have been wanting to try out this essence since I got the mugwort mask in this line which is also my favorite. This essence come in a glass bottle which I find luxurious. It has a watery texture that absorbs quickly leaving without feeling tacky even when you layer. It a has a very slight earthy scent that is not irritating as it dissipates immediately. It feels very light and I love how it leaves my skin feels soft and hydrated after application. I noticed how effective it is in calming my irritated skin and soothing my breakout inflammation. It helps it to heal faster and redness subside quickly. I've been using this for a few weeks now and my skin looks more healthier, brighter and less breakout and redness. I also like how easy this to incorporate with other skincare product. I recommend this if you are looking for something soothing product for your irritated skin.

I have started growing yomogi (artemisia princeps, aka Japanese mugwort). Commonly used to flavor mochi for wagashi (traditional Japanese sweets) such as kusa daifuku (a personal favorite). Mom will be very irritated at me when it escapes it's pot and starts taking over the garden 🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱😅 (at Novato, California) https://www.instagram.com/p/CL2-PHWg9Fs/?igshid=1umy7e1b7d7ee

(December 2019) (Learn how and when to remove this template message) Kampō (or Kanpō, 漢方) medicine is the Japanese study and adaptation of traditional Chinese medicine. In 1967, the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare approved four kampo medicines for reimbursement under the National Health Insurance (NHI) program. In 1976, 82 kampo medicines were approved by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare. Currently, 148 kampo medicines are approved for reimbursement. [1] The 14th edition of the Japanese Pharmacopoeia (JP) (日本薬局方 Nihon yakkyokuhō) lists 165 herbal ingredients that are approved to be used in kampo remedies.[2] Tsumura (ツムラ) is the leading maker[3] making 128 of the 148 kampo medicines. The "count" column shows in how many of these 128 formulae the herb is found. The most common herb is Glycyrrhizae Radix (Chinese liquorice root). It is in 94 of the 128 Tsumura formulae. Pfffffft i remembered my old AUs involving Abeno and Ashiya clans being in not so friendly terms (lmao they basically hate each other). After realizing that maybe i’ll never post these AUs i decided to briefly post about their relationships and family crests meaning. Also sorry my skills I suck at photoshop and crests.
Abeno family crest… Oh boi it was hard. I had image in my head but I didn’t knew how to actually realize it. From the start I decided that Abeno clan is a highly noble clan (you can count them being emperor’s private exorcists). Also, they deal more with youkai world than human’s, but they still connect them both, that’s why their crest have Mononokean symbol. Only head of the Abeno clan, who made a pact with Underworld’s branches and Mononokean themselves can summon “gates” (and believe me, Mononokean’s true form is a giant gates) by using their blood and scroll (that represents will of the youkai). On daily basis they can summon our tea room like it’s nothing. Their family crest uses Artemisia princeps (Japanese mugwort) because it’s a species of a sunflower. And also because this plant can be used in many different ways, especially in exorcism due to it scaring evil and dangerous living (and not so living) creatures away. There’s also Camellia flower, which is believed to be red. This flower considered be a noble - once Abeno family started to work for emperor, he gifted them camellia in exchange for Lycoris flower they used previously. Before emperor Abeno clan wasn’t noble, and they had bad reputation because they were dealing with “bad things” - especially when it comes to dead. So, instead of death (lycoris) emperor gave them new life (camellia). Crest also uses white and sun symbols as its base. Abeno clan works officially, always on front lines, dealing with all serious matters considering youkai and Underworld. They became Yang - using their powers for sake of both humans and youkai (but mostly second). Family flower is believed to be sunflower - sun, keeping darkness inside. And also because of the mixed blood with kitsune all members are born with blond hair. Family main colors are White and Red, considered as noble and special for both humans and youkai. Secondary - gold, due to natural hair color and sun.
It was more difficult with Ashiya clan crest because I had no idea how it should look like, but I really wanted it to be a contrast to Abeno’s crest. Ashiya clan was created as a second branch serving for the sake of the main branch. In the end, after some events and inner revolution, they became separate somewhat noble family and rivals to main branch. Abeno wants to exterminate “traitors”, as they call them, while Ashiya wants independence. Because of the circumstances of their creation, Ashiya have less experience and spiritual energy for dealing with youkai matters. Instead they’re dealing with underground things from shadows - being skilled medics for both humans and youkai and having special pact with Kiyakudo (that’s why they’re using part of symbol), and also being spies and assassins if needed. They use Chrysanthemum leaves for crest because this flower is perfect for medicine, have different types (Ashiya were never fixated on clearness of blood) and because it was brought to Japan from China - just like they were divided from main branch. They also use forget-me-not flower - it was a cruel joke from main branch (true love for their beloved while death for others), and because Ashiya don’t want to disappear as a separate clan. They also use black and moon - similar reasons for Abeno, but instead it shows them being in shadows - behind main clan, bringing death (its believed that Yin, opposite to Yang, brings end to everything). Family flower is blue or purple Aster - they remember everything and don’t want to be forgotten. Main colors are black and blue, being unlucky and not heavenly, but noble nonetheless. Secondary - silver, because Ashiya known for using silver in their medical/alchemy practices and barriers from evil.

I’m From Mugwort Mask is a gentle wash off mask enriched with mugwort and other botanical extracts to help calm, soothe, nourish, and detoxify skin. The 2.1% Mugwort in this mask help manage and heal acne breakouts and treat skin irritation.
Key Ingredients:
- Mugwort Extract is full of vitamins, minerals, and anti-inflammatory properties that help to soothe irritated skin and reduce redness
- Artemisia Princeps Leaf Powder is antibacterial, anti-fungal, and has skin-protective properties
- Licorice Root Extract helps to reduce irritation and redness, brighten skin
- Centella Asiatica Extract helps healing by speeding up skin cell production.
- Allantoin keeps skin moisturized, soothes and protects skin. Also helps with cell regeneration
This mask has a gel-like texture with ground bits of mugwort. It goes on smoothly, almost like a cream, and doesn’t harden on skin. There is a earthy scent to it but I don’t find it to be overpowering. I use this when my skin is irritated or I’m experiencing the rare breakout. This mask has a nice cooling effect on the skin and instantly feels soothing on irritated skin. I like how the mask helps reduce redness in one use and calms acne. I have found this mask has also helped heal the occasional rare breakout I get faster. My skin feels clean, refreshed, and soft after using. Only big con I have is that this isn’t all that hydrating for me. I would recommend to those who have combination, oily and acne prone skin.
PROS:
✅ Cruelty Free
✅ Doesn’t Irritate my skin
✅ Calms Inflammation and Reduces Redness
✅ Cool and Refreshing
✅ Skin feels soft and smooth after use
✅ Helped clear up small breakouts
CONS:
❌ The Price
❌ This mask isn’t hydrating for me
