Revenge For Panenka
On this the opening day of the 2020 European Championships I’ve written this poem to commemorate the 60th birthday of the tournament. I’ve given it the title
It’s that Panenka penalty in 76
when he chipped it in to the net
for Czechoslovakia’s greatest success
creating an unforgettable memory
commentators called sublime
yet when Eddy did the same
in the Scottish Cup final
their successors…
