Both color and a version that's just black. Like to give options. I am looking to do some Ancient Egypt themed tattoos. :)

so yesterday mum and I were rewatching sg1 (as you do) and I jokingly commented "Teal'c ROCKS the eye makeup, but who's going down to CVS for him?" and mum, the big history nerd she is, said "maybe it's a tattoo. ancient Egyptians would tattoo their eyelids to protect from sun blindness." and I was like "was there a permanent ink that they used because sticking a bunch of needles in your eyelids sounds like torture." and she was like "well the nobility would use [mineral that rhymes with "coal" but different and I don't remember how she spelled it] but it was expense and slaves weren't worth that cost so they would use needle tattoos." and that made me Very Uncomfortable so I joked that "I'll just stick with my corner store eyeshadow theory"

The history of ‘tramp stamp’ tattoos just went way back. Tattoos have been found on the hips and thighs of multiple female mummies from Ancient Egypt. But their presence seems to have had a far nobler purpose than the decorations of today.

Tattoos on ancient people fascinate me, mostly because of the ancient reasons for being there. Often, those are medical reasons, although by no means always. Very interesting find.

Ancient egyptian lower back tattoos
Anne Austin and Marie-Lys Arnette hypothesize that these lower back tattoos are associated with childbirth. The design is reminiscent of a marsh, of fresh water, which could symbolize the soothing of the lower back pain associated with menstrual cramps and labor.
"In formulas nos 815 and 820 of [the Coffin Texts], which are placed among the texts devoted to gynaecology, it is the word skbb, ‘to refresh, to cool’ determined by the vase from which flows a stream of water, which is used to evoke the soothing of the pain of ‘the uterus’, though the context is not clearly that of parturition. The formula no. 785 of the same also connects cooling with ‘the back parts’
(pHwyt) of the woman, thus echoing both the Coffin Text formulas and the location of the marsh tattoos on human remains and figurines."
They further contextualize these by mentioning Amazigh lower back tattoos, which women did on other women, at the time of puberty, to signal availability to marriage, as well as the custom of lower back/abdomen tattoos to ensure pregnancy in Iraq. However, they find it unlikely that the Ancient Egyptian tattoos they've described are examples of a general wish for fecundity or reaching of sexual maturity, as they would be more ubiquitous. One possibility could be that these were performed on ancient egyptian midwives.
These tattoos also seem to include Bes-imagery, which is most commonly associated with scenes of women on beds, usually near a pot containing fragrant fat. Since fat, along with a mirror and kohl pot, belonged to the group of presents given to a new mother during the last phase of purification and aggregation rites carried out before she was reintegrated into the community, the authors question if these markings could signify and thus ensure the accomplishment of a successful childbirth.

Thursday Thoughts
My lead did not show up to work yesterday so I had to run things. The extra money was nice and things did go smoothly. It is just getting ridiculous that he is allowed to miss all this time from work. If I missed as much time as he did I would not have a job. I keep seeing some Egyptian art and symbols I want to either get as a tattoo or a wall printing. Mostly ancient Egyptian but mostly they go with my Cancer birth sign element. I even want to get the two Chinese characters of my year and element as well.
Hope everyone has a good day!
